Something I’m surprised no one’s mentioned yet: Wasn’t this Mike Breen’s 1st ever TRIPLE “It’s good!”?
Breen was on a heater in the 4th quarter
I mean he’s a Knicks fan so makes sense
To his credit should the roles be reversed it wouldn’t be much different (see: game 2) the man is a pro
bro loves the game too much to not get stoked about every great play no matter who makes it. even on our home broadcasts he’s quick to praise opponents and call out our own obvious fouls
there’s a reason he’s the fuckin voice of the finals lol
RJ should take some fucking notes instead of inserting his opinion on every whistle as if its a podcast or something.
I truly think the commentators are a big part of why the discourse around the reffing is so terrible.
JJ was one of the better color commentators ESPN brought on, shame they lost him immediately to the lakers lol
from a friend who works production side for ESPN. JJ is a complete dick to deal with though. Many of his coworkers were so happy when he left for the lakers job.
i can see that, I wonder what the lakers FO think of him
While I am pretty neutral on Jefferson and Legler, this is such an upgrade over the misery parade of Jackson and Van Gundy. I’d take this forever.
Huge RJ fan because of his other work in the media. I’m glad he doesn’t go fully goofball during games like he does in other places. Reggie could take some notes
Watching Breen/Clyde my whole life really spoiled me. They have more class than most of the other teams home commentators have combined. Professionals first and Knicks fans second.
It was funny hearing his frustration to KAT trying to sell a foul and then being slow on defense. I know he can be critical to players when announcing but it’s very rare and it being directed towards KAT felt like the fan in him
He is the picture of a consummate professional. Respect.
If that Brunson 3 just went in we would have seen the first ever triple bang
He said on record that if the Knicks hit a game winner in the finals, it would be a triple bang lol
He said on air with Michael Kay yesterday that he would have given the triple bang if Jalen’s shot goes in there.
I don’t think the city could have survived Jalen hitting that 3
The long three and put back was like a manga plot twist. Every moment is so filled with tension and hope. As the ball is flying through the air over impossibly long arms, OG is making a run to the basket, eyes only on the ball. Then the ball hits the front of the rim and he takes off with such force, but he just caresses the ball and softly floats it back up and its just hanging there for a moment before it goes straight through the cylinder. If I had read it, I would have thought the writer was going overboard.
I was thinking the same thing. It’s a cool “can you imagine though?” scenario.
This tip in was more dramatic and took more time off the clock, it’s still all time
Hope he hits the next one then. Then the trash can take itself out. 😂
I just wanna hear him go BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG on a buzzer beater as the pandemonium hits the court
the universe isnt ready for this i fear
I’m getting chills just thinking about a moment like that
Hi captain obvious….we know lol
Probably why he said “it’s good” three times, it was in his head to go 3.
It was so close too like if he was a step forward wouldve prob went in lol
Except if he was a step closer to Wemby he’d been eating leather.
This’ll suffice… (for now)
100%. I thought that shot was going down live and was ready for the triple bang
Instead we’ll have to settle for the first triple bang of the night being OG, Suni Lee, and Anne Hathaway
I just want BANG BANG BANG!
I thought Breen did a great job of calling the game. There is clear excitement and partial Bias when the Knicks were coming back - but he also did a good job of praising the Spurs for making their shots in the first half. He was upbeat throughout the game . I’d prefer - and expect - any play by play guy to convey the excitement of the comeback and match the arena. I have little doubt that he would have conveyed such excitement for the Spurs if they had made the comeback.
I actually partially blame Richard Jefferson for some of this ref stuff, he’s just clearly rooting for the Knicks and it’s skewing the narrative. Breen has been a lot better about it.
I listened to one of his interviews, he’s very thoughtful about the process
I usually will say something like, “feels like Reggie or Doris is rooting for team x tonight a little bit”, but it’s mostly just a feeling.
Richard is unapologetically rooting for the Knicks from the announcer booth lol
Which has me so confused cause he loved dunking on us for ages lol
He hated his time with us (the sentiment is mutual, Richard)
This really puts it into perspective. Petty people like Dick Jefferson can’t help but pile support the thing they have less hate for in order to strengthen their hate for the other thing
If it’s any consolation supporting us on national broadcast is probably tearing him up inside
I think the fact that this team is an actual team has turned a lot of opinions. Players people didn’t want or call overrated and overpaid who came together.
That’s how I feel everywhere I look right now. Everyone we’ve caught shit from over the years is suddenly a superfan.
Jefferson is awful
his jokes aren’t that funny and his voice is grating. he always calls guards smalls and relates things to his own experience when nobody gives a fuck about his playing career.
Spurs fans especially don’t want to hear about Richard Jefferson’s career
RJ can be fun, I like him as the C-team commentator though, not on the finals. Should just be legs and green IMO
not the same level as bang
Can’t bang a tip in though, if Brunson nailed it, a triple bang was coming for certainty
[removed]
He’s saving that for the game winner
This was a game winner but yes for a series ender for sure lol
Yeah I meant to win the series but hit submit before I finished my thought
Close enough for me, for now! 😁
Just a tip
And it made the greatest single-game comeback in NBA Finals history. 😁
I feel it’s easily at the same level, for what it’s worth. He’s a Knicks fan. This one means something, even if he’s too professional to show it very much.
He just watched his favorite team make a historical 29 point comeback. He was far more composed than any of us were.
Him and the DJ from MSG, I admire their skill of just not scream and jump like maniacs and do their job.
Epic call from an epic broadcaster. Best in the business and there isn’t anyone close.
there isn’t anyone close.
You guys just love saying this “not close” shit without thinking 2s
How can you even say that when motherfucking KEVIN HARLAN exists?
I liked Harlan from 10 years ago. Today’s Harlan is a lot of yelling and “WOW!”. Breen learned from Marv, and has that ability to punctuate a big moment like Marv. I would listen to Breen ten times out of ten over Harlan.
RIP Stacey King
I’m biased but Pranica’s “Hammer. Nail. Coffin.” is top-tier.
It’s been mentioned, Breen said yesterday that he said it three times because he couldn’t say the triple bang he was gonna say if Brunson hit the shot.
Breen’s said this many times
As in THREE times together — for a single clutch shot made??
Yes
Where then?
Google is your friend. Have fun
I have to say, Breen is doing a fantastic job calling these games especially that game 4.
Might have been haha. It deserved it, phenomenal play.
Such a hype moment, I was kind of pulling for the Spurs at the end but what a moment for OG man… the block at the other end then that finish putting up 33 points. What a legend.
watching live I had the feeling he couldn’t really see what was happening
Agreed. He was ready to triple bang had Brunson made the 3, but had to say “it’s not good” and then shifted to a triple “it’s good!”.
Nah, he definitely could see well enough to notice the tip in by OG
I don’t know if it is, but it was such a great call
“this building is shaking right now” as the camera is shaking is an all time call.
incredible stuff.
Probably because it’s really the “triple-bang” that we’ve been itching for
i’m still waiting for the quintuple “it’s good”
Half court shot game winner?
It’s the second time he’s done it, I just checked
Get a JOB bro PLEASE
The call sucked
Considering the Knicks bias it doesn’t count lol
YOU DONT COUNT
Cry some more
Lol, Mike Breen is my favorite announcer and im rooting for the knicks
Bang! Bang! He boomed him!
Bring back tirico and Reggie
ew. no.
Kevin Harlan?
Ew no to YOUR point
Mike is the best in the business but his bias is pretty obvious in this series
He’s been calling the Knicks for God knows how long, one win away from seeing them win their first ring in 50+ years, I think he’s earned the right to have some bias (I don’t think he’s that bad IMO)
I think it’s 35 at this point. He started when the Knicks were perpetually good, which is insane to think about
So what you’re saying is Mike Breen was a Fairweather fan who paid the ultimate price
Nah not to bad, you can tell he absolutely loves the game itself so if someone (anyone) does something crazy he always has such a positive resonance in his calls
Why are Celtics fans always the most salty?
Why can no one talk about anything without being accused of being salty? The whole crew has objectively been very pro Knicks the whole series
I know sports subs love their flairs, but this is why I dislike them. People just say things based on the commenter’s team and don’t think about the content of the post.
You are a Canadian repping the Clemson Tigers? Lmao no wonder you think that way, poser
lol you people are relentless, I change my flair randomly because idiots like you can’t keep a discussion on topic and instead have to try and attack someone’s flair.
You fucking moron
He is a Knicks fan, but this was completing the biggest finals comeback of all time, I think it’s reasonable
Hard disagree. Mike is always hype for opposing teams that hit huge shots for the Knicks, and he was in this series so far every time the Spurs hit a big shot.
You could hear his pain in Castle’s dagger in game 3 tho (not that I blame him)
The saddest BANG
I disagree. I think RJ has been by far the worst.
God punished him for his time in San Antonio by making him extra bald
How? He just witnessed history in the biggest point deficit comeback in The Finals + the first Finals win at The Garden in decades. What do you think would’ve been the proper reaction to such a monumental moment?
The proper reaction would be the main commentator of the NBA finals not being on one of the teams direct payrolls
He was depressed af in the first half lol
Breen is still the best commentator in the league so I honestly couldn’t care less. He could be a lot more biased and I’d be completely fine with it. Getting rid of him just for being a Knicks fan would just make the viewer experience more boring.
The best commentator in the league is Ian Eagle
Eagle and Harlan easily better than Breen
Breen wants to see a good game because he’s a fan of the sport.
Also the amount of commentators (let alone Finals level commentators) not on a team’s payroll is insanely small.
I’d put his bias against any other home announcer in a Finals situation. Ultimate pro
I think even if you erase the actual fan bias he still calls games for these players, conducts interviews and knows them way better than he would the spurs players. Although with how many years National broadcasts cough Doris Burke cough would nearly outright shit on the Knicks we deserve a Breen finals
