“I apologize.” — Draymond Green to Jalen Brunson after previously saying on his podcast: “He’s absolutely incredible… but when you talk about winning a championship, I don’t know if he’s the guy as your No. 1.”
Draymond: apologizes
Jalen, internally: I have no clue what you’re talking about
“Ok”
Could you imagine having like a superstar player like Luka, a perennial all-star like Brunson, building a team around those two with a good center and good 3d players. Man, that team would probably make it to the finals.
The anger in me intensifies
Something takes apart meeee
Brunson was a two time NCAA champion and player of the year. The Mavs could have had the best backcourt in the league for the next decade.
He’s short and Luka is fat, it makes way more sense to get reliable and healthy guys like Kyrie and AD
[Charlie Murphy laughing gif]
They actually got to the finals after Brunson left. Not because of that (he certainly would have helped) but by 2024 he was already in New York
That’s rough buddy
Hello, Draymond here.
Many people/NBA pundits are saying that a short PG can’t be a leader of a team that wins a ring
“I feel sorry for you.”
“I don’t think about you at all.”
Syril: lifetime struggle to be relevant and not a lame mama’s boy by pandering to the evil Empire
Andor: “Who are you?” Saves the galaxy
such a great show
a Mad Men reference in the NBA sub ? You love to see it
You know Quasimodo predicted all this
damn this is a great comp
No it’s not. People don’t know the context of that scene, that episode portrayed Don as jealous and insecure. The “I don’t think about you at all.” line from him was a complete bluff.
Yup, out of context, it works.
But having binged the show earlier this year, it’s a complete lie, and Don is deeply insecure.
Ironic how misused this meme is.
It’s like the “you have no power here” meme
Like two seconds later Gandalf casts Saruman out and reveals that it is Saruman who is losing his title as the white wizard
Kind of like people making a hero out of Walter White.
I mean that’s because the show kinda nudges you in the direction of having empathy for Walter White. It wasn’t really a Homelander situation where people just completely blanked out the fact that he is the villain in the story.
It’s still a cold line
Yeah it’s a slick quote from a cool character, but people who’ve never seen the show or don’t have media or personal literacy misunderstand it constantly. It’s the only thing Don has in that moment is malice, and it’s a lie. It’s a petulant response from a cracking facade
Agreed but at the same time it emphasizes how quick he is on his feet and how good he is at living a lie.
You took everything from me.
I dont even know who you are
Also stop touching me..it’s start to get weird.
Touch is a sign that someone is interested in you. Dray is giving Jalen the greenlight to pursue him. 🥰
Nowhere near as bad as Josh Hart at least
I’m pretty sure JB prefers Josh fingering him than Draymmond touching him…pause.
Jalen thinking “damn what he say about me?”
“What he say fuck me for?”
I swear JB has that Saitama energy. He’s just unphased by any of it.
Saturday!!!
Saturday!??!
BUT THAT MEANS…
I missed the grocery sale!!!
unfazed
Becky Hammon apologizes in person next…
Brunson (confused look): Can I help u ma’am?
I’m sure Jalen can finally sleep soundly at night now.
He didn’t like that “little men” comment by chuck
[deleted]
Shit talking other players on national TV when you’re still playing is crazy.
If by “playing” you mean eating cap space while not scoring and somehow leading the league in turnover percentage and killing any chance of Steph getting another ring, then sure.
Yeah that’s exactly what I mean, playing the Warriors FO like a fiddle.
If Curry wanted him gone, he’d be gone yesterday.
Seriously, people think they have better judgment than Curry and Kerr about Draymond. Draymond is core to the unit in ways we don’t know, can’t feel and a stat sheet won’t tell.. like we see with Josh Hart.
Damn. I read your comment before seeing your flair and then realized a Warriors fan was saying this. Lol. But you’re right. Draymond clamping down an old Kawhi in a play-in game is not good enough. Steph’s final years are wasting away. I want to see Steph make another run before he hangs it up.
Why? He’s not ducking anything.
Players talk shit about each other all the time, he isn’t hiding it one bit and owned it when he was wrong.
Seriously this sub is always begging for hot take artists to face the music for their bullshit they spew. One of the few times a guy actually takes accountability for his takes and everyone is like “I dont care”
I use to dislike Draymond. I still dislike Draymond, but I used to too
You mean a dpoy with the most all defense selections in the last 10 years would be nothing without curry? 😂 yall really be killing me with these terrible think pieces.
I dislike Draymond, too, but pair him with any good offensive weapon and he’s still an elite defender and a guy who makes the right reads/passes on offense.
Maybe he’s not at this level, but he’s a high quality piece on any winning team.
I hate how Inside the NBA keeps pushing to platform him. Genuinely has turned me away from wanting to watch it at all anytime he’s on
In the most important/biggest game of Curry and Draymond’s career, Draymond was the best player on the team and significantly outperformed Curry
nah as a knicks fan we can at the VERY LEAST back our guy KAT in hating this guys guts no matter what until he apologizes to him.
Mike Brown/The Villanova guys/OG (along with some players on the bench) hugging and being so buddy buddy with Draymond during and after Warriors games is actually like the single most hateable thing about this team. I genuinely think its the biggest cause of chemistry issues with KAT his time here, its tough look when the guys you go out and fight with are just chopping it up with your biggest opp in the league.
Brown atleast has the excuse of coaching dray for years but the rest of the team? man have your boys back, my armchair psychology ass was thinking incidents like that would be a microcosm of this era of the knicks - Glad to be wrong but i’m still not happy about it. I dont ever wanna see brunson accept this bs ass apology, this guy dissed KAT and you.
Since when did people from NYC become so soft
Jalen is NOT feeling that fake ass apology. Everyone counted him out, and they all look stupid trying to walk it back.
I think he’s mostly thinking “can’t accept these apologies because I haven’t won yet”.
He’s being polite but emotionally he has to restrain himself from accepting these gestures.
Yeah this is definitely it lol. They don’t hand out the trophy when the media decides you’ve won or the Knicks would have had a parade after Game 2
Somebody should have told the spurs after their WCF win
Hey man, the wcf was the real finals
The Knicks analytically lost the ECF then analytcally lost the World Champion vs Eastern Conference Champion series.
What a bunch of losers, really !
That shit bothered me so much. Knicks had the Spurs number for a while now, and OKC potentially not having JDub meant they’d have no size at the wing to contend with OG and Bridges.
Not that those teams couldn’t possibly beat the Knicks, but it just felt like no one who said it had paid any attention. Really insulting narrative
analytically OkC and Cavs are the nba champion
yeah I mean when you’re up 3-1 and the guy talking to you is one of the only people in sports history to have lost a 3-1 lead…
100% you know Brunson is gonna talk his shit once they win.
If Brunson just went off on everyone after a win I might die of joy. F u and u and u… I don’t see it but pleeeease
Brunson will keep it succinct and let Hart talk on his behalf
“can’t accept these apologies because I haven’t won yet”.
I think so too. That interview where it was mentioned that Jalen did not want to do any media or photo/video shoot with the Larry O’Brien trophy, told me a lot about the guy.
They are locked in.
It’s not a fake apology, it’s a valid one. That’s what’s wrong with basketball discourse and society in general. It’s okay to go back and apologize when you realize you were wrong. It doesn’t make you “fake”
let’s be honest, it’s because it’s Draymond here.
“Walking it back” is a pretty uncharitable characterization of “apologizing”. The former is a weaselly attempt to avoid accountability. An apology is the opposite of that
Why is it a fake apology?
Because this sub hates draymond
Except right after he said goodbye you could see on the broadcast that while Barkley is transitioning to a new subject, Brunson goes out of his way to dap Draymond up again. Because like most NBA players, Brunson presumably likes Draymond.
I think his reluctance to acknowledge that narrative is because he is literally not an NBA champion, and he is trying to lock in and get that ring. Imagine how ridiculous it would be if he says anything agreeing with Draymond and then loses the championship. Draymond put him in a bad spot with that, best thing he could do was basically ignore it.
exactly lmao, but whatever let this sub be parasocial
They havent won yet. All games so far have been close enough that its still very possible for the spurs to win.
He went out of his way to dap up Draymond after the interview, I don’t think they have beef
I don’t wanna hear shit from Draymond or Becky.
I don’t get why people are so dialed in on Becky’s comments when that was pretty much her was consensus
Because it’s a stupid fucking argument. For half of NBA history you “couldn’t win” without a Hall of Fame center leading you. And then a bunch of guards and forwards took over the sport and everybody forgot that was a thing.
I doubt Knicks fans agreed it was consensus
Because it’s a lazy argument. There’s been like 3 PFs to win as a 1A, are we going to say you can’t win with a PF as your first option? When you dig into it you realize how small the sample size is when it comes to people who have won as “1A”s
I mean that’s sports people talk shit and you can go out there and prove them wrong
if OG wins fmvp he mightve been the #1 guy for this series. I mean he basically has been destroying the spurs.
Takes more than 1 series to win a chip. He had 2 bad games. If the Knicks wind up winning and he doesn’t get FMVP he was still the engine of this team, the leader and I’d say the overall #1 for this season and last few years.
The man has had 30 pts in 3⁄4 games and had 20 in the other. Hes doing his thing. To win, you need unexpected heroes. But Jalen is still doing what the #1 does
EDIT: I think OG deserves MVP, but it’s not bc JB hasn’t shown up to his standard
Absolutely but OG is also absolutely balling while carrying significantly more defensively. Brunson is averaging 27 on sub 40% shooting… OG averaging 24 on 58% shooting
Not trying to take anything away from JB but I truly think OG deserves FMVP if it ended today
Edit: I realize I shorted Brunson 3PPG, I read somewhere that he was averaging 27 and should have fact checked it.
Brunson is averaging 30/5/5 while leading the team in points, assists and steals and hitting every clutch shot in every win
Don’t shortchange him. I think FMVP is up for grabs but there is a reason why Brunson is the betting favorite
Also, OG and everyone else on the team are getting the looks they’re getting because of the Spurs’ whole gameplan revolves around trying to stop Brunson. Take that way and OG wouldn’t be nearly as effective. For instance, in Game 4, 4 of Brunson’s 12 FGs were assisted, whereas 8 out of OG’s 10 FGs were assisted. Brunson is the primary point of attack and OG has been outstanding in playing off of that.
Exactly don’t want to take away from OG because he has been elite
But it is harder to be a creator and offensive engine than a play finisher
Also OG doesn’t get the tip of brun was not double teamed. Brunson is opening up everything for everyone despite not being an efficient scorer.
I’m not shortchanging him, he’s come up big when he needs to. I quite literally said “not trying to take anything away from Brunson” lol
It’s certainly close, but OG has ALSO been hitting every clutch shot. I personally think OG deserves it as of today
I always think the 1993 finals is a good example of this. Everyone remembers Paxson hitting that 3 in the final seconds to put the Bulls up.
Those were the only points scored in the 4th quarter by anyone besides Michael Jordan
Same thing with LeBron in the 2013 Finals. Everyone remembers Bosh rebound -> Ray Allen 3 but they seem to forget that Bron scored 16 to comeback from a 10 point deficit
he also scored the three before ray allen’s 3.
Also scored several pivotal buckets in game 7 but people have basically reduced that series to a single play for some reason
Nope, Lebron obviously got saved by Ray Allen. Basically the worst player in the game.
Source: What does that word mean?
2000’s Horry and Fisher with the clutch shots too. OG’s tip in will no doubt be regular feature on highlight reels.
I’d argue that JB shoulders a lot more responsibility than OG since he functions as the #1 guy and doing it well enough this series. The Spurs defense is focused on him whenever he has the ball, and OG wouldn’t have been able to tip it in if Fox hadn’t had to double JB. It’s hard to score 30 when the entire Spurs defense is focused on stopping Brunson, and Brunson is doing it well enough that it unlocks other players. I think overall, JB deserves FMVP with OG being a close second for now.
He absolutely hasn’t shown up to his standard though? He’d be the first to say it too. He’s shooting just under 40% from the field.
Curry had one average game in the 2015 NBA finals and people still hold it against him despite being lights out all playoffs long.
Yep. Dropped 36 points to get the dub in a pivotal Game 5 when the series was tied 2-2, and he had (one of) the highest 4th quarter scoring averages in Finals history. But he had a poor Game 2 so the voters decided to punish him for it 🙄
They really wanted to give it to Lebron but since they couldn’t cuz his team lost they gave it to the next best thing; the guy who was guarding him lol.
lol tell that to Steph curry in 2015
I mean that’s exactly what I’m talking about. Winning FMVP doesn’t mean you are your team’s #1 option. Steph was clearly the number 1 despite not getting FMVP (which he should have got).
Iguodala winning the FMVP really speaks to the mega impact that Lebron had in that series. I think he was leading both teams in every statistical category and it actually had me wondering if they were going to break tradition once again to give FMVP to a player on the losing team. But instead, they gave it to Iguodala because out of everybody on the warriors, he was the most effective at defending Lebron. And that was the most valuable contribution–not 3 pt shooting, not high efficiency offense… stopping Lebron.
Stopping is a strong word here
He made Lebron inefficient by his standards is the best way to look at it. The guy averaged 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game lol. But his efficency was below 40%. There was no stopping that guy, just making him take more shots which led to more points for the Warriors off of misses.
I hear you but if Brunson doesn’t win it I would bet money he’d be slightly salty about it. There’s a reason Steph sobbed when he won it in 2022. PS go knicks. Hope you get it.
I still think, given the length of the postseason, they should also have a playoff MVP. FMVP is sometimes fluky, especially these days it is all matchups and people overload on your 1 option
What were his 2 bad games lmao hes been nothing but hyper efficient and a demon on defense. It was between him and kat imo but the refs keep just removing KAT from these games so
I was referring to Brunson having two bad games not OG
Brunson is shooting over 50% in the 4th quarter and 63% from 3 in the 4th averaging 9.6pts in the 4th. The spurs are doubling him, and hand checking him like its the 90s from full court. Im sorry but you cant look at that and say anyone else is our best player just because the doubling is creating open looks for our other players.
It’s also disingenuous as fuck to only look at 4th quarter stats. You can say it “matters more” but that’s true in large part because Brunson has been varying levels of shit in the other 3 quarters.
Last night was the first great game Brunson has put together all series. The other games he’s been straight up ass the vast majority of the time.
You stop doubling Brunson and you’ll see how good OG and KAT play lmao. They literally do not get to shoot like that without then full court pressing Brunson.
It’s almost as if this game that has a 5-man lineup out there needs the 5 guys to actually be able to do something.
Yeah, it’s hilarious how people are going “They don’t win those without OG/KAT/whoever”. Like do they expect the #1 option to be on the court against 5 people by themselves? Also why all the “He couldn’t win without Pippen/Kyrie” arguments are lame af. Nobody wins a chip with bad teammates.
And he’s a small offense-only guard, they don’t get here without the rest of the starters playing good-to-great defense. It’s not even clear to me he’s their best player: he’s their #1 scorer, but KAT and OG are playing great two-way basketball.
If they win it all, I think this is one of the most balanced starting-5 champions since the Pistons. I wouldn’t say any of them are legit MVP candidates, but they have assembled multiple All-Stars and All-Defense players who play together in a way where they are greater than the sum of their parts.
I watched every game since game 2. Brunson is NOT the reason they’re winning lol. OG and KAT have been bailing Brunson/Hart out bigtime
Yeah I think OG has clearly been the best player on the Knicks
Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but watching anyone other than JB or GTA bring the ball up is giving me stomach issues. JB’s got more TOs than normal but with how physical and athletic the spurs guards are, JB’s playmaking and ball handling have been huge
I wish people like you voted during the Warrior’s 2015 run. Iguodala winning was such bullshit lmao. I love Iggy but Steph somehow didn’t get this narrative
It pisses me off every day Igoudala won for holding bron 2 points under 40.
That was a Nike hit job right? Steph clearly was FMVP in 2015.
The narrative that Steph needed to win a finals MVP to validate his career was also for the low minded as well given he was the best player but I am glad he shut up those critics up in 2022. I am just hoping that Brunson wins so we don’t have to deal with the nonsense about his legacy from the basketball historians “well actually, he didn’t win a finals MVP”.
Getting that Finals MVP in 2022 after having to listen to everyone call him the greatest player to have never won one must have felt so validating for him. I think he even said after the Finals “What they gonna say now?” so he definitely heard the chatter.
You understand that the other 3 quarters of basketball count just as much as the 4th?
Brunson is the engine that drives the train
His efficiency has been ass but he’s still putting up 30 a game. If they win the next game and Brunson has a good game he’s winning it
Moving the goalpost and a series isn’t a season. Was Iggy the number one guy on the warriors?
Compare the spurs defense on OG and Jalen. It’s much easier for OG to score because of the focus the put into Jalen.
KAT tipping that ball was also massive and will be overlooked.
Jalen is locked in. If he chooses to speak about this it’ll be when the season is over and on his podcast .
I don’t think he has any clue what Green was referencing
Listening to an NBA player podcast is something I don’t see most NBA players doing. They are actually in the ecosystem, the element of having an “inside source” carries zero weight for a player.
Especially a draymond green solo podcast lmao. A second job might be more appealing to players than tuning into listen to him.
Tbh who cares about draymond’s podcast
Draymond making it about him
Always does
That’s all he knows how to do.
His mistake was assuming Jalen Brunson - in the midst of an historical championship run - automatically knew (let alone, cared) about what he said on his podcast.
I guess in fairness to Draymond, NBA players barely ever create podcasts, so Jalen really should’ve knew what was said.
Nobody gonna mention how he also rolls his eyes at Chuck’s “little man” joke?
I noticed that, didn’t seem to thrilled to be called a “little man”
As someone who is 5’8 it’s crazy someone being referred to as little when they’re 6’2 hahaha
In their circle, i.e world of giants I guess he’s little. (I’m 5’7 🤣)
Charles being 6’4 calling a 6’2 guy little man is insane lol
Isn’t Charles closer to 6’6? At least by the way that most players are measured (with shoes)
He was listed that way, but common knowledge is that he’s actually 6’4 (similar to how Ben Wallace wasn’t actually 6’9)
To be fair, Chuck is(or used to be) a wiiiide 6’4 lol
Just looking at the way they’re sitting. Someone’s lying. Chuck’s feet are flat on the floor.
Dude is 6’2”. I know that’s short in NBA but he still in the top 4% of men in the US.
He’s the same height as me, but any time I see him on court he may as well be a dwarf next to the behemoths he shares the floor with. They make him seem like he’s 5’11 somehow.
If they win again he can call Charles No Rings
I mean its a slight
The idea of calling 6’0”+ guys short is really, really weird.
Agreed, it’s also weird when adults call other adults kid
The cringe was so real. This ain’t about you Draymond, nobody cares that you said some dumb shit, shut up
He doesn’t know how to be on TV. It’s ok to be cringy, Shaq is all the time, but at least Shaq can tie it into what’s going on in the broadcast. No one knew wtf Draymond was talking about though, I only found out just now
people call everything cringey so for anyone who loves living life, you cant really pay that any mind
Draymonds issue is that hes antagonistic. hes a bully that picks fights
And you quickly realize you cant fight someone with no interest in fighting back, he contributes little else so you just fade to the background
Shaq, when not being a massive bitch, has solid comedic timing in the presence of other people. Im not wading through Draymonds podcast to here his own self contained jokes but he doesnt have anywhere near the chemistry with the rest of the crew
You’ve hit the nail on the head. Shaq knows what he’s doing on TV even when he’s being cringey. You can call him whatever you want but that man knows how to entertain and has been doing it for decades.
Draymond really does have no idea.
Also like why the fuck is he acting as if he is this Shaq, Chuck type figure who is like a legend of the game showing love to a young player who maybe looked upto them as a kid. Like who the fuck is this guy, he is not even close to the level of player Brunson is, never was. It’s like Kevin Love trying to big bro Lebron, like good job kid you proved me wrong. Just set some screens to Steph dude
that’s the part that annoys me lol. Brunson has been a better player than Draymond ever was for years now and Draymond’s acting like his opinion was ever meant to mean anything to Brunson lol.
dray was an amazing defender and great passer but he’s really convinced himself that he has some sort of scottie pippen legacy lol
I don’t get it. The guy is one of the best defenders ever, was a very good playmaker and had plenty of vital shooting games, and has four rings. Why is everyone acting like Brunson is way better than him? Do people really value defence so little?
I mean…He is a legend of the game lol. Dude has 4 rings and is one of the best defenders of all time
He has 4 rings and was a key part of winning all of them lmao.
He absolutely has the right to talk like this, I hate draymond but you guys are so weird about it.
Am i the only one who finds it weird to see a current player in this role? Like if draymond was retired ok, i get it. But this is just awkward imo.
They have been grooming him for a few years to take on of those guys slot if one chooses to retire
Unfortunately.
Which makes zero sense. He sucks at it and is a polarizing figure based on his dirty play.
Which is exactly why he fits there
I’d take Draymond over Perkins anyday as an analyst
That can’t be the standard. They’re both worthless as commentators and when they speak you’re just listening to some dudes personality disorder.
I don’t want that donkey on tv
Problem is he’s not funny or likable to literally most NBA fans.
Yeah idk why they cater to him so much. Most fans don’t enjoy him nor care to hear what he says yet he’s shoved down our throats.
WHY IS DRAYMOND RUINING INSIDE THE NBA? WHO WANTS THIS? WHYYYYY? Luckily on YouTube I can zoom in and cut Draymond out so I don’t have to look at him.
Thank you! Who the hell likes what he has to contribute?!?!
Draymond probably thought this was going to be his Shaq “I owe you an apology” moment. But he’s a clown and totally fumbled the delivery
Brunson could careless what Draymond has to say lol
*couldn’t care less
But I agree
Bold of Draymond to assume Jalen watches his pod or cares about his opinion
I imagine JB in the back of his head going “Cool, I guess? I don’t even know what you’re talking about” lmao
Mf just say sorry
For the love of god just take Draymond’s mic away
But how does Becky Hammon feel about this?
Please draymond stop talking
Somehow, someway, Dray will find a way to make any conversation about himself.
Sometimes you don’t need to be a body language expert to understand how someone feels about someone else.
Draymond is so dislikable, even when he’s doing something “nice”. It’ll be a sad, sad day if he replaces Shaq and Chuck
Draymond sucks
who cares about this dudes podcast…. acting like it was significant.
it felt so corny and weird… and also brining up himself being up 3-1 and losing the finals….like what the hell, way to take the moment away from Brunson
I remember watching this last night and thinking “wtf is he talking about”. Looks like Jalen thought the same. No offense but no one really cares what these NBA players have to say on their pods - they are advised by their producers and management to create a narrative and say anything to force engagement because that’s how you get views. Traditional media figures like Skip and Stephen A have been doing this forever. And now NBA players follow suit and pop out podcasts like babies because it’s an easy next step in their career.
For him to assume that Jalen Brunson, who is playing under the biggest media market in the world, cared about some comment he probably said in passing on his podcast - mind you while he’s in the middle of a historic championship run - it’s honestly laughable.
Forget this. We need that apology to KAT
Lmaoo brunson dont give a fuck
Reddit is never satisfied 😂
The narcissist had to do this performance of an apology on national TV during the Finals.
Real men apologize without being on TV.
draymond looks so tiny here
But Brunson has been the 3rd best player on his team this series. No one was wrong about him. This team isn’t in this position if OG and KAT weren’t playing like this.
He carries the most responsibility, he’s the one creating open looks for guys like OG
If you make it to the finals, you are a capable championship player.
