An alternate angle of Wemby’s “kick” with the game timer. Doesn’t look as intentional as from the other angle first posted
His legs are very clearly super wide here, not close to Anunoby’s legs. The other angle makes it look way worse.
I don’t think the other angle looks like he’s really going for the knee, it’s just such absurd movement that it’s hard to tell what he’s trying to accomplish at all lmfao. This makes it look more like he’s trying to sell contact without leaving the play.
Edit: Ok but honestly this frame without any context looks insane LMAO. The angle makes the perspective deceptive, his foot is well behind OG’s.
Yep. This move is more likely to blow out Wemby’s own knees than anyone else’s lol
I thought this was a videogame glitch posted as ragebait. Those legs are moving like a 10 minute old baby giraffe getting ready to run from lions.
He’s trying to sell contact every time someone puts their hands on his body. After Karl got his two fouls Wemby was flailing like he was on a rollercoaster hunting for another player to get in foul trouble
I mean, so was Kat. Both big men looked like they were throwing a tantrum at various points of the game.
KAT was obviously frustrated with the foul calls and was letting out that frustration. Especially after the soft hooking call you could tell Wemby was trying to bait our guys into fouls
Yeah, I think it’s one of those things.
One it’s hard to judge this in real-time. We get the benefit of a live slow-mo replay, so we notice way more fouls then ever before.
2 the refs have been lenient with flops and players take advantage of getting any advantage they can. Especially now, that they know in fact you can win a chip playing physical on one end and flop on the other.
Not sure what purpose secacuase serves if not to flag these things as they happen. It seems more like they sit on their ass until there is a play to review.
Such a glaring missed opportunity to make things more efficient and effective.
I mean honestly? The reffing these finals has been awesome. Sure I’d say the Knicks got the raw end of the deal so far but overall it’s been great. Flopping hasn’t been rewarded at all. KAT’s second foul was bad timing like Barkley said, in a fair world that’s a foul on Wemby but it’s similar to when the out of bounds call goes against your team cause your guy’s finger nail skimmed the ball after the defender poked it out. Even the goaltend I wasn’t furious over cause Mitch is clearly going up for the lob so that’s what made Kornett swipe at it and the refs just missed it. What’s pissing me off is everyone tryna say Wemby is dirty for his shoving or Hart for his chippiness. This is ideal basketball being played and I pray we can close out one last game
super wemby bros
Long legs will play some wild visual tricks.
He loves his anime, maybe he’s trying to channel his inner Nika in that still lol
Mario 1 frame after you press A
That’s some wemby spartan kick
That frame is getting me
Waluigi ass motherfucker
Roy Keane in Haaland lol
Someone make the logo
The crime here is why the fuck are they attacking ng OG, give the ball to your other guard.
They’ve been doing a lot of Fox/Wemby pick and roll so Brown put OG on Fox to get him involved in the action. It was a conscious decision by the Knicks.
Other angle is better and there it looks closer cause it is closer… Its very absurd move and stomp tho so hard to tell was it on purpose but he was close to OG foot/knee
Lmao at all the people who are saying it was AI
Sometimes a 7’5” dude just looks unnatural as hell.
That and admittedly the “fan view” angle does look a bit more damning than the broadcast view. It’s still a weird bodily movement, but not as damning.
It’s not “damning” in any way whatsoever.
Right lol Antnobi doesn’t move at all and Wemby if he’s trying to get his knee misses him by a full foot.
I mean he got pushed lol? You can say it’s flopping but his defender has two hands on him? Hows that not a foul?
Reminds of watching Peter Crouch play soccer. Limbs all over the place
People aren’t supposed to be that big. Nobody calls the 5’11 guy from your office an alien because he’s just a normal guy.
He looks like a baby giraffe learning his limbs sometimes haha
Wemby AI is hard to spot because he already looks Uncanny
He builds running momentum like a horse with its head and neck lol. You can’t unsee it.
pretty much 100% of the time
I’m watching the game and just realizing how hard it is to ref for this guy… Probably as difficult as it was for reffing shaq. He’s just huge and he’s gonna get beat the fuck up all the time because of it. That elbow he caught the flagrant for is just because he’s so fucking long (pause) lol.
It’s hilarious watching him play against grown NBA players, and looking like a dad playing with his kids. This is probably so frustrating for defenders or other players who when they play Wemby for the first time in their life know what it feels like to be babied all day.
So confidently too, clowns lol
Anything to defend their golden boy
AI or not, the other video is wildly disingenuous. There’s no issue here.
I don’t think he was trying to stomp on OG either but the immediate jumping to AI accusations to defend him is wild
I agree. That’s my bad!
Oh so now “just a bad angle”?
Still AI
(Angle Imperfect)
Ummm. Yes. Do you really think Wemby did anything wrong here. His legs were nowhere close to OGs.
I mean yeah lol obviously. Even in the original video you can’t see at all how close he was to his knee so people assuming he was trying to take him out is a huge reach. In this angle he misses him by a full foot despite OG being completely still if he was trying to take out his knee.
SoCiEtY iS dOoMeD
I mean it might be.
If this is how people now react to basketball clips that they don’t like then I have no idea how real news is going to work going forward.
I’m so sick of the absolute defeatist doomers on this site, it’s so fucking tiring.
Society is doomed. Anything you don’t like can be called AI
I mean, it’s kinda wild that people are just claiming AI on videos they don’t necessarily “agree” with despite knowing it was broadcast to millions of people.
Swear they’re all bots.
[deleted]
I don’t particularly like Wemby or the Spurs and thought they wouldn’t even make the WCF, but that clip still looked so odd to me that I thought it was somehow altered. The narrative that Wemby was trying to end OG’s career with some martial arts move, combined with how nonchalant everyone was while it was supposedly happening, made the whole thing seem unnatural.
Turns out it was just a really odd angle and the official broadcast shows it was no big deal.
Fr bro, got 7 downvotes, thinking they’re smarter than ‘Mericans🤓
AI hasn’t played in years either. Not sure how they got confused
Cause they’re idiots and “it’s AI” makes it easy to dismiss.
welcome to the dead internet
People get convinced of the strangest shit sometimes lol
Lmao to all the people saying he’s trying to take out OG’s knee
I think saying “it is AI” flat out, was a bad call, but I think many of us were skeptical about what the original video was attempting to convince people of, and which this video clearly shows didn’t happen. I think it is just that at this point in time, AI, fake news, edited footage, misleading journalism, etc, get kind of jumbled up.
You can scoff at the people crying AI if you want, but I think the people condemning him based on that first clip are also showing their bias, and they are the ones that were fooled.
Then they should argue that he wasn’t trying to stomp OG’s knee, which tbh, is obvious just using your common sense (and this is coming from someone who does not like Wemby).
But jumping to “AI” just shows further decline in reasoning skills imo.
I agree that it is stupid to jump to “this is AI”, but before this other angle came out, I wouldn’t even want someone arguing that he wasn’t trying to stomp his knee, since I don’t think there was evidence for that either. I think it should have just been in that realm of thinking something looked off, and needing confirmation one way or the other.
I don’t think there needed to be confirmation the video was real. That’s just dumb to me when it’s during a game broadcast in front of millions. Like obviously people would know if that never happened.
I think jumping to it being malicious is also dumb, but imo, in a lesser way. But that could just be because this sub judges all sorts of plays like this every single game, so it just feels like part of the experience.
I think you guys are being insane thinking he’s trying to end OG career here. If that was the case he did a horrible job and missed completely. I get Wemby public enemy #1 but this is an insane stretch
the media is so fucking dogshit man
Knicks fans are all hooligans and thugs
Spurs players are all dirty and trying to end Knicks players lives
You could see the OKC fans coming out of the woodworks in these posts when I don’t see them on any other post
Thats why you gotta root for teams that the media doesnt even discuss, like the Hawks!
Pelican fans rise up!
CJ would have hit those free throws, i know that much
I never understand why more fans don’t recognize that basketball media is ass. So many treat it like the bible.
And we’re right around the corner from the off season, this board is gonna be so cooked.
This is the quintessential reply rn
It’s not at all your fault, your fans definitely aren’t contributing to the toxic narratives. /s
It’s my team’s fans fault. Lol. We’ve gotten more shit for being annoying than Knicks fans do for jumping people and making the finals toxic
His legs are too wide to even make contact with OG’s knee. People just finding shit to cry about.
What the fuck are yall talking about even this is just basketball I literally don’t see anything
Yall are as brain rotted as QAnon
But I was told by multiple people on this sub that it was AI and I was remembering something that didn’t happen 🤡🤡
No but seriously, this angle makes it look like Wemby set an awkward screen rather than attempt to curbstomp OG’s knee
he was flopping to sell the hold i think
He was trying to sell a no call.
I mean, sometimes being shoved just knocks people off balance…especially when that person is 7’5” with a high center of gravity
Yeah this is just how he flops.
Y’all had every right to call him a flopper. It’s pathetic to do this at his size.
He does flop, but to say “they” had every right to call him that, is pretty crazy. Maybe in the “takes one to know one” sense.
I know what you mean but if Wemby is gonna take jabs at OKC about playing “ethical hoops” then it’s fair game to call out his hypocrisy too
all these guys flailing are just getting themselves or others injured
You guys are so fucking stupid lmao. Your first lie gets proven wrong, so no you gotta pivot to the next. All the while you have brunson throwing an intentional elbow in one game, and another player trying an mma style take down in this one. But “wemby dirty” I guess.
lol at all the dummies screaming that this was A.I. in the other thread.
it was such an awkward move, it really did feel like AI lmao
Im def a dummy im just not reacting to anything nowadays till confirm.. im still not sure Wemby is real
I mean he just looks like a lanky 7+ foot person moving around I don’t see a kick?
If you can find an ambiguous enough angle of anything, r/nba will see whatever the fuck they want to see in it.
For medical students, that’s why we have to request PA and lateral views on X-rays.
Fuck it and the oblique, never trust even 2 views
lol
he’s like a giraffe kicking out
Baby horse screen
It’s because he’s light, and the guy defending him is also laying into him, creating lift lol.
That’s literally Wemby trying to stop his forward momentum to pivot
Thanks - I wasn’t really sure what the hell he was trying to do with his body but this makes sense
This exactly. People are so braindead. Nobodies talking about the single leg wwe takedown but we need 5 angles to determine if wemby got pushed into OG or not.
Anybody that has ever set a screen before knew that last post was misleading bs.
Definitely a misleading title but the people claiming it was AI made me roll my eyes to the back of my head lol
Wemby decides to either curb stomp a guys knee and misses by a full foot despite him standing completely still or that’s not what he was trying to do at all. Common sense says one thing, he’s have to be insanely stupid to do that and insanely stupid in missing by a full foot despite him standing completely still. But he’s Victor Satanyana right now and deserves to gets eggs thrown at him so that isn’t the narrative.
Oh look, reactionary morons made up whatever narrative they wanted. Who could have guessed. This series has really exposed a lot of this sub as having zero ability to read a situation.
this so true 😅
like when jokic was asked about the mvp and he didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. then people started to hate him because he’s too nonchalant and his dont care gimmick is annoying. then this season when wemby was asked about the mvp and he gave a long answer why he thinks he’s the mvp and showed that he cares about it. then suddenly wemby was begging for it and he received a lot of hate for that. 😅😵💫
i think i need a break from social media
Everyone’s gone insane, this is such a nothing clip. The guy with the highest center of gravity of anyone all time gets a small push mid movement, readjusts after losing his footing, and does a 2 foot stop instead of a one foot stop. It’s not even that close to og
Call me soft I think this is still a reckless move
Soft
oh wow people are including imaginary evidence to build up ‘wemby is dirty af’ case.
It’s obviously not intentional. People just love to be mad about stuff
Wemby hate getting a bit out of control tbh
7’4” athlete is moving his body awkwardly when he loses balance, fork found in the kitchen
I admit it doesn’t look as bad from this angle but the people clamoring about AI is fucking hive nonsense
Is people claiming he tried to curb stomp OG’s knee and missed by a full foot despite OG not moving at all not give mind nonsense?
He’s clearly being pushed
And pushed hard
The other angle looked way worse, this is just a giraffe trying to move around. Fair is fair
I think this is the right take. The first clip looked bad, but also seemed “off”, or at least unlikely, so I wouldn’t blame anyone for believing it, but some people coming in here after and just making the narrative that Spurs/Wemby fans were stupid for saying AI, while continuing to not recognize their own confirmation bias, is just disingenuous and toxic.
It is unfortunately common that rather than trying to find common ground, they are obsessed with finding what they disagree about, and trying to gain leverage, by any means.
Both can be true. He obviously wasn’t trying to stomp OG’s knee, even in the other angle, but Spurs/Wemby fans were stupid for saying it was AI
From this angle, this ain’t nothing, he’s not even close to his knee, lol.
The other post with the close up vid/different angle is misleading, lol.
He was indeed trying to sell contact though, haha.
Whoever posted the first angle should be permanently banned
Knicks fans are massive babies. The team sucking for 20 years spared us from how stupid those fans are
So many of them are desperately hoping for a Wemby suspension - as if being up 3-1 isn’t enough.
Damn, those mysterious missing frames in the earlier video made kind of a difference.
He could’ve injured himself, what an idiot
Thank you lol, I knew I saw this and getting blasted in the other thread for not thinking it was AI.
Well shit… My judgement was ignorance
Anyone with a brain should’ve known it wasn’t intentional lol Sochan came in to pester and shove and get under Wemby’s skin…he clearly was pushed off balance here
Wemby is being pushed in the back by a Knicks player with both of his feet in the air. He has enough control to avoid OG, but I wouldn’t even call this reckless on his part.
A double patty nothingburger
he’s just moving goofy here bc he’s a weird freak alien. clear him of this charge.
Me trying to get my dog the zoomies
his limbs so long that it looked like a giraffe there lol
OKC fans in shambles
Committing multiple flagrant fouls will build you a dirty reputation. Players like Grayson Allen, Lu Dort, and Draymond Green are observed and judged like this.
Im just trying to imagine trying to move as a human being that tall. It rarely looks natural.
He just looked out of sorts. He knew what he wanted his body to do but he was clearly exhausted by that point.
“This is so reckless”
These are professional athletes not 40 year olds playing pickup at the gym they have body control. At no point was og in danger of getting fucked up.
Thank you.
Wow Wemby is so dirty for doing a move that isn’t even close of touching another player!
Yeah he’s clearly just doing a crazy screen. Not kicking at the knee at all. I don’t think there’s anything malicious here
Okay, so Wemby is just a lanky dude.
It’s typical Knicks fans seething and foaming at the mouth because they believe they deserve free championships….. they will also genuinely look you in the eyes and tell you that the Knicks get no favoritism from the refs….. then after the game they will beat you outside of the stadium…. Knicks fans are animals
Insane the other thread had a bunch of people calling it AI. Of a play that was broadcast to millions. We are so cooked.
Question that I have is what the hell is he trying to do here then? Sell a foul?
This clip is the first time I’m hearing about this, and, with no context, I had no idea what you were talking about. Watched the clip multiple times waiting to see some kind of kick and didn’t see any. Now that I have context of what I was supposed to be looking at, this is incredibly stupid. He’s going up to set a screen and KAT is shoving him way off-balance so his legs flail awkwardly.
If people want to talk about dirty plays, talk about Alvarado trying to intentionally trip Wemby under the basket before going hard at his groin last night.
I still hate Wemby though
People are doing the same thing with the Spurs as they did with OKC. Lacking all common sense when it comes to normal basketball plays
I do think its important to point out all the flagrant fouls all these insane movements. It kinda seems like the dude just doesnt know how to use his body and loses more control the more he gets tired. I know this was the first quarter but like dudes body is just weird lol.
Watching that clip without context makes it look like there are 9 basketball players and one big dude who has no idea what he is doing lmao
Serious tho. I wish Wemby the best but he acts childish too often. His offensive game relies way too much on his size rather than skill. If he doesnt Work on both of this it will hurt his legacy and career
He was just trying to flop to get a call. I don’t view any intention in it but it was a bit reckless. There’s also a fine line between reckless and dirty and how it’s viewed is often based on reputation.
LMFAO WHO WAS CALLING THIS AI
Don’t think he was trying to kick but he actually looks like a baby giraffe out there.
Lmao how the mob turns, most fans have no clue on what they yapping about
Only bad part about sports playoffs are all the crazies they always attract micro-anylyzing nothing, dogpiling and circlejerking everything they can. As a neutral fan last night’s game was fucking awesome but people on this subreddit make it nearly impossible to enjoy sometimes.
Sochan shoves him and he plants his foot as he stops. Knicks fans are SO desperate for a Wemby suspension!
Wemby is like a baby deer he’s soft as fuck
Dude really looks like a giraffe flailing around
No way those knees are going to last.
lol at everyone in the other thread calling it AI, we’re cooked. It was just a misleading angle.
No one talking about how Wemby tried to hook OG’s arm like he did with KAT at the beginning of that quarter.
Dude looks like a drunk baby giraffe
Do yall really need more reasons to pile on after a win?
It looks like he took a slight shove from the defender, so he had to splay out his legs like that for balance.
Wemby haters just trying to cope with him running the league for the next 10 years lol
Why does he play like a guy who is actively going through puberty
Bro is a baby giraffe
If anything Wemby could’ve blow his own knee out watching all angles of the play
Stilts.
Looks like a baby giraffe taking it’s first steps
What am i even supposed to be seeing in this clip, i have no context. Wemby sets a screen?
There was another clip making the rounds that looked like Wemby tried to kick OG’s leg in:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1u2z7k6/victor_wembanyama_appears_to_try_and_stomp_og/?sort=new
Other post had some insane comments in it
People thinking this is dirty are looking for something that isn’t there to fit their agenda
the ejection from the Minnesota series + the “uncalled flagrant” from game 3, are causing people to over analyze him just moving kinda goofy because he is so tall and lanky.
It’s fresh in peoples minds is all.
Yeah he’s a baby giraffe. I do think agenda posting is a very real thing as well that heavily contributes to all the horrible takes
That stomp looks just like a weird move ,… why would he jump like that lol
It still looks awkward as hell.
Plus he’s being fouled the entire move.
Are people stupid? He plays soccer, if he wanted to kick him he wouldn’t have missed.
If wemby wanted to hit that dudes knee he would have
Still a bit reckless
Wemby might be the single most physically gifted player in nba history and seems to be fairly smart off the court. He does some wildly reckless and stupid things on the basketball court. It’s incredible.
Getting pushed and losing your balance is wildly reckless? You guys are beyond delusional
Still look reckless to me but it’s Wemby so it’s okay
Why does it even matter? They’re down 3-1.
At this point as Spurs fans we should just embrace it, it’ll piss everyone off more. My goat do a dirty play to your WHOLE team and nothing you or the league can do about it. League is cooked 🤗🤗
Nothing they can do about it except win the series 😂
I didn’t think Wemby was trying to injure anyone, but what the other angle does show is that he is clearly sped up, emotional and out of control. It’s a temper tantrum pretending to be a screen.
Not an intentional kick, but a goofy move that has potential to endanger players on the court
The rule is if the leg is in motion. Not intentional or not. It’s clearly moving
Sochan is shoving him in the back and he doesn’t even come close to OG’s knee.
Lmao Wemby could get blown over by a stiff wind. Sochan barely had a hand on him. Wemby just likes to try to sell every call possible
All he does is flop and turn around and bulldoze KAT
But you don’t get it man he almost accidentally kicked him because he was being pushed from the back that was almost accidentally reckless. That should almost accidentally be an ejection.
You realize you’re responsible for controlling your body regardless of intent right?
Yeah of course. But it also doesn’t look like it comes as close to contact in this clip compared to the other one.
This angle does look less like he’s trying to hurt someone and more like hes flopping like a fish. Ill give you that. (Still kinda reckless but not as ill intentioned as I first thought)
