Knicks fans block party, watching the game projected onto the side of a building, react to OG’s tip in
more of this please. Fans who are celebrating and enjoying the vibes probably make up the majority of the Knicks fanbase
We absolutely do. You go to all parts of the city in all the five boroughs and it’s nothing but love from fans. Those assholes acting like fools and beating up spurs fans are not doing all that for the Knicks. They’re doing that for personal clout and trying to go viral so that they can try and find some way out of their miserable lives.
I think if you’re a visiting fan and wear your gear, there’s not a small chance the only conversation you have with anyone is about basketball. We eat it up here.
Nothing but love from all over! Lifetime miserable Knicks fan in Roanoke, Virginia here! Not miserable anymore!
Yeah, this is the vast vast majority of Knicks fans. Unfortunately you have the idiots causing trouble getting most of the attention because that’s what drives clicks. (But if the attention causes them to get in trouble for it, then it’s worth it)
Everything I’ve seen has been mostly positives vibes.
But NY is so damn big the degenerate minority percentage is larger and stands out more,
I’m almost certain the population of NYC is larger than the population of every other NBA Finals teams from the past 10 years combined.
like no shit we’re gonna have more idiots than other teams, but percentage-wise it’s probably right around the same.
I saw your other comment which (correctly) states that NYC’s population is bigger than 10⁄12 finals teams of the past 10 years, but that’s a misleading comparison that isn’t really fair because of how ridiculous North American city boundaries get. On one extreme, Miami’s city boundaries are so tiny that its population isn’t even 500k, even though the Miami area is clearly one of the largest urban centres in North America. On the other extreme (also in Florida), Jacksonville has such absurdly large city boundaries (the biggest in all of NA), that it’s the largest city by population in the entire US southeast, and 10th largest in the US as a whole. Using metropolitan areas paints a much more correct picture of city populations (Miami’s MSA population is the 4th largest in the US, and Jacksonville’s is 38th, for example).
And if we go by metro populations, NYC’s ~21.112 M is just shy of 7⁄12 of the finals teams of the past 10 years combined (which together are ~20.215 M). Of the remaining 5 cities, NYC’s metro population is also just a bit larger than LA + Toronto (~19.953 M), or Dallas + Miami + Pheonix (~20.097 M). Altogether, the finals teams of the last 10 years have a combined metro population of ~60.266 M, or 3× that of NYC’s.
That said, what certainly is true, is that NYC’s metro population alone is larger than the combined metro populations of any two finalists we’ve seen since the last time the Knicks were in the finals (the only finals matchup that can beat NYC’s metro population is LA vs Chicago). What is probably also true is that Knicks fans outnumber the fans of 10⁄12 NBA finalists of the last 10 years combined (excluding the Lakers and Raptors, probably).
*Estimated 2025 metropolitan area populations from US Census Bureau and Statistics Canada.
Also factor in that NY and LA both have two NBA teams
They just get more media attention - lets face it the media is controlled my elites who want us to keep fighting each other. Like what should we be more outraged by - someone throwing an egg at Wemby, or the huge wealth gap that’s getting worse and worse…
I get the frustration of knicks fans. An extremely small number of people will ruin it for all of the Knick’s fans.
Like a decade ago some moron called Russell Westbrook “boy” or something like that and it caused the NBA community as a whole to see all Jazz fans as backwards pieces of shit (even more than they already did). Local media absolutely tore the guy apart and he was widely ridiculed and condemned but it didn’t matter, the damage had been done.
Doesn’t help that it’s one of the biggest fanbases in all of sports so more likely to have neanderthals
I mean…Jazz fans have been known in the past to be human scumbags. Derek Fisher at the free throw line with fans trying to distract him by covering their eye (reference to Fisher’s daughter having cancer in her eye at the time), being incredibly racist to Ja Morant and his family in the 2021 playoffs, being mormans, etc.
Jazz fans kinda deserve their rep as being one of the most toxic NBA fanbases.
I think the problem is Utah more than being Jazz fans specifically tbh
Yeah, there are 20 million people living in the New York metro area, gotta be at least a few million Knicks fans. There were probably around 1000 Knicks fans taking part in all the raging assholery, which on the one hand is a tonne of people being such absolute pieces of shit, but on the other hand is probably around 1 in 3,000 Knicks fans.
Yeah and I would speculate a chunk of these guys causing mayhem are like casual Knicks fans at best, just looking for an excuse to cause mayhem in a group where it’s ’socially acceptable’ (not really but)
I mean no shit. Did you assume all New York basketball fans were a militia or something?
99% of fans are.
New York is huge and that 1% ruins it
I was working at a non sports bar and the energy was so electric. I want this for the city. I habe been here 20 years and it is such a heart warming thinking to see the city this unified and pumped.
Its the mongrels who’s in Midtown within the vicinity of MSG that is ruining the vibes and the look of the fanbase. Outside Midtown to the other boroughs is where all the more levelheaded people like these guys are, actually celebrating with the community.
As someone living in a country where football is very relevant, I can confirm. A handful of violent troglodytes give a bad name to the whole thing. Actually to the whole concept of rooting for a football team.
Kalshi influencer types trying to instigate viral clips through stupidity unfortunately has become a large talking point to represent our whole fanbase. Most of it is stuff like this, love and grit and community.
100%. When there are big crowds, bad people take advantage. We saw it during the George Floyd protests. Most people were protesting, but then there were people taking advantage of the frenzy and stealing TVs and Louie bags. Clearly they weren’t upset about Floyd, they just wanted to commit crimes and use the crowds as a cover. I see it similarly with these crowds in NYC. The NYPD needs to get a handle on it. Arrest anyone acting out
Yeah none of that destruction is happening at watch parties on Long Island. It’s good vibes only out here
Like in most of sports or even most of big events. But don’t worry if few knicks fan make shit because of win or lose we will talk about it for days. Exactly like what happens with PSG winning. There were lot of video of joyful celebration but media and people ended looping only on the bad one.
And the worst in that is those bad people love we talk about them so the more we talk about them the more they will do. When you see the video of knicks fan beating spurs fan or looting shop 70% of people around are filming them and a lot of them are streamer. We put too much light on people that are not worth.
there is no “probably” needed, of course they do
If the Knicks win the chip, this will be in the documentary.
man, why couldn’t we get a live shot of Frost Bank Center in San Antonio during that moment? lol
Someone has the footage. I just know it.
RELEASE THE SPURS CUT.
They’re shipping it overseas, streaming exclusively on Good360
Some poor kid in a third world country is being forced to watch it as we speak.
It’s the power of having a city this size basically root for one team. All the other pro sports, there’s at least two. The Knicks unite this place like no other.
(Yes I know about the Nets but for all intents and purposes they are an afterthought on a city-wide support scale)
The Brooklyn DA’s office has a Go Knicks signboard up in the lobby lol
I mean they’re lawyers so they gotta be kinda smart.
The Nets are an afterthought and should have stayed in NJ. obligatory fuck Jay Z for that one
The Nets never truly had a home in NJ from the day the ABA merged. Their best bet would have been to leave the NY market entirely.
I lived blocks from Barclays for years, went through Atlantic terminal every day, and still never considered going to a nets game lol
I’ve gone to a few games for no other reason that tickets have been often under $10
I live in NC and have done that plenty of times with the Hornets—seen a couple of great but utterly meaningless games.
Curious when London can support almost 20 professional soccer teams. Top-down, versus bottom-up sports philosophy.
Definitely. None of those teams are called the “London _______s”. With the exception of the few titans, they are hyperlocal and get their fans from tradition and community rather than city-repping per se.
Midtown Knicks vs Jamaica Jets
keep in mind that London has no other professional sports teams that matter outside of soccer. There’s no meaningful basketball or baseball. Pro rugby and cricket exist, technically, but in a real sense it’s just 99% soccer and that’s it.
Whereas NYC has the Knicks, Nets, Giants, Jets, Rangers, Islanders Yankees, Mets, NYCFC, Red Bulls. Then throw in the Devils, Liberty, the ten or so minor league baseball teams, the multiple G-League teams, etc.
(Yes I know about the Nets but for all intents and purposes they are an afterthought
WFAN host Evan Roberts on life support rn
LA must be on par at least. The Clippers are an afterthought there too
As someone who’s lived in both LA and NYC, there’s significantly more Clippers fans than Nets fans
This Knicks run is proof that no one in New York cares about the Nets.
Ben stiller has been filming the full season courtside.. wouldn’t be shocked if he’s making something.
He is for HBO I believe.
That 29 pt comeback/meltdown needs to be there as well. It’s ok to be inexperienced team but never good full stupid or complacent, specially downright asinine (looking at you fox)
A reminder to all future rebuilding teams and young players to never go full dumbass.
That’s genuinely awesome
THIS is the real New York. Shared experiences and passion for what you love. Yes, there are idiot fans who do stupid shit - and wayyyy too many of them - but there were millions more out there doing this instead.
I mean the people causing the problems aren’t even watching the games. I was in midtown last night, and there were crowds of teenagers/early 20s dudes just fighting police in the street during the comeback.
All with their stupid streaming camera setups out. All because some dude dressed as spider-man was starting fights with a bunch of broccoli heads.
Once city with more residents than most states/other countries. You’re gonna have a very large breadth of people there. It’s unavoidable.
Oh yeah I’ve been for close to a decade, I know how it goes. It doesn’t help most of these kids are coming in from NJ/LI/Westchester because of the proximity to all the stations.
My experience with these finals has been fucking incredible, and watching the community come together has made me a Knicks fan for life (behind the Blazers) but it reminds me of what my family/friends went through in 2020 in PDX where a small subset of people is stirring up shit and giving the rest of the world a reason to hate the city.
Streamer generation is shot.
This is sweet and I’m even envious. There’s prob what, 20% real Knick fans before they moved there or who are actually from NY?
Who the fuck cares? The vibe and the energy are real.
I don’t think they’re saying that as an insult, just observing that the team is bringing people together
Yeah people talking about these events like they’re full of criminals and hooliganism have no idea just how many people are out there
It’s insane. NYC is through the roof right now, I’ve never seen anything like it.
I was living in Philly when they won their first Super Bowl - this tops it. No question.
This is what New York looks like when it doesn’t make national headlines. Best city in the US.
i had to ask a bartender to put on the suns play-in game in phoenix lol i’m so envious of hardcore sports cities and the fandom that comes with it
Deer District vibes.
Imagine the deer district but there’s 1000 of them across the city. That’s what it’s like
Just want to say this is how 99% of Knicks fans celebrate all over the city. I’m sorry for the other 1% that flock to the area near MSG looking for violence rather than celebrating a win.
After seeing this and hearing Josh say OG saved him from a lifetime of regret, I hope the Knicks win the championship. Wemby’s time will come.
im so grateful to josh for his defense on the last play, he was locked tf in
I really think KAT got a finger on the inbound and it should’ve been dead before over before the ball got there. Looks like the flight of the ball got impacted
He had to be after that missed tip in and falling asleep on Castles jump for his FTs
Bruh. You have millions of people. It’s not even close to 1% that are shit heads.
It’s probably 0.05% of fans
to be 5 basis points of 8M means 4K people… do you think 4K people are in the videos?
it’s not even a single bp.. yet this dumb ass sub reddit loves crying over what <100 clowns do.
so let’s do proper math and keep this perspective with how much those videos get air time over the reality of what’s going on.
i want joy to flood these subreddits the next time grown men go smear campaign to trash a beautiful city and its people. it’s pathetic actually and very childish actually.
i wish i could upload the nasty comments of spurs fans about knicks fan from Game 3 win on here
And unfortunately those clips spread like hot cakes on TikTok and Twitter. Making seem like it’s their entire fan base doing that.
It’s clearly not the entire fan base though, lol. Doesn’t even seem remotely like it to an inkling of sense. A lot of losers that just have a bone to pick with NYC for whatever reason using it as cover to shit on the city. Perfectly normal from Boston and Philly fans given city rivalries (and their shit stinks too) but straight up weird coming from everywhere else.
We got redditors saying 80% of Knicks fans are bullies who are trying to light Spurs fans on fire
The comments have been straight out of a Fox News section for the past few days.
I wasn’t even rooting for the Knicks, but this is 99.9999% of the city. It’s actually been one of the cooler things about the Knicks run is how happy and united the city has been first the first time in probably decades-sans Trump’s visit on game 3 who killed the vibes for a sec.
Just sucks that people clearly have an agenda to immediately highlight the negative (which is bad dont get me wrong) instead of the thousands of videos where people are not acting like that.
I don’t want to downplay the incidents but it has really shown this sub isn’t exposed to a lot of sports fandom. Like any big rivalry college football game is going to have stuff like this.
I think most people understand this. I really like most Knicks fans and their team. I feel like they have been in purgatory long enough and I would not mind seeing them win a ring.
That being said, the small minority that is attacking people are acting like the biggest victims here on this sub is really pissing me off.
The video here is absolutely the stuff I like to see though. Just people being genuinely happy.
Terminally online clout chasing assholes who see one Sidetalk video and don’t understand the culture.
Nothing bad even happened last night that I’ve seen? Some kids stomped on a bicycle which I’ll take as a win 😂
Less that 1
jesus its massive lol
This is my dorkiness talking but damn I’m wondering what projector that is
lol
I think you can see it with the 4 people on the stairwell. They do probably have a pretty good throw distance but if its really size of building big its probably still pretty heavy duty. Maybe and Optoma projector?
This is what it’s like all over the city. My five year old stayed up for this. This is real Knicks fans
I’m coming up solo from Virginia Saturday just to experience the vibes. Is there somewhere in Manhattan you’d recommend going? Getting into Penn Station at 830 so going outside lower Manhattan isn’t super practical.
If you want to go to this exact spot, navigate to St. Jardim in the west village—they’re playing all the games on the side of the building there
Not sure about block parties yet, but any bar in that area will be nuts I promise you
Oh hey look, actual representation of Knicks fans.
Hey!!!. Not all Knick fans are like this!!!! LOL
I gotta say, I’ve been in a group like this before (not for anything championship deciding) but it is fucking exhilarating. It’s a feeling I don’t truly think I can say I’ve experienced since.
I experienced it in college at a football game where my school (the home team) battled a rival who was the #1 team in the country and my team ended up winning. The crowd was electric and the aftermath across the town (which was encouraged) was insane.
However the greater one was the Miami Miracle. When the Dolphins came back to beat the Pats. I was actually outside the stadium but I was near dolphins fans as a result as we saw it happen. What a feeling man. That shared joy, you can feel the pulse of everyone in the area.
I’m guessing your home football team is Vandy.
I believe that shared experiences are what makes us human. These moments are way too rare and tend to show up more in situations like a power failure or 9⁄11.
This is what a real city looks like. People outside their homes on the street celebrating together, not in cars, just out in public wherever they are. It’s been so beautiful to see
theres WAY more of this going on all around the city than these young kids using the knicks as an excuse to do stupid shit. that sidetalk going viral was the worst thing that could have happened
Seems like the vibes in NYC right now are at an all time high. The city is just radiating positive energy right now, and even us folks outside the city are feeling it
vibes are electric
This is the majority of fans not the clowns starting fights for clout
Where was this? I gotta find this for Saturday
Looks like west village
West Village has been producing cinema over the past few games, so many of my fave celebratory clips are from this corner/neighborhood
This was on W 10th St in that little triangle between 7th ave and W 4th St
Looks like 4th and 10th in WV if you check the signs in the corner
They’re showing games on public kiosks too so it could very well be any corner in NYC on Saturday
The ages seen in this video are 10+ years older than the hooligan videos lol I think that says a lot. There’s lots of us old fart Knick fans that just want to watch our team succeed, we just don’t post our celebrations on tiktok
this is like the majority of nyc but r/nba thinks the bums that are coming in from the bronx to be hood rats are somehow representative of nyc😭😭
I guarantee half of them are casual Knicks fans at best, too. Just looking for an excuse to cause trouble in a group
Bro they’re coming in from NJ and SI
ehhh I don’t think “hood rats” and “Bronx” thing needs to be done, there’s mad normal cool knicks fans from the hood it has nothing to do with that.
just freaks and attention seekers congregating from various places in those videos
The kneejerk reaction from folks on here blaming all the hooliganism we’ve seen on New York working class folks is really weird and gross
8 million NYC residents united by 1 team. It’s incredible to watch. Every race and religion coming together and celebrating. This is what world peace looks like. Literally.
Being in nyc during Knicks finals has been one of the best experiences of my life so far. I’ve never been so excited with so many people before. It’s unbelievable
look at these disgusting animals destroying the city knick fans are subhuman
This is cool to see and the type of reactions I like to watch. The destroying vehicles, assaulting opposing fans, throwing shit at other team players is all cornball shit. I don’t want these genuinely feel good reactions to be overshadowed by the toxic negative ones.
This is what the Knicks are about. Fuck the nonsense. A few wankers in one big city doesn’t define the culture.
Anyone know where this is. I’m trying to go lol. West village looks like?
Should be west 4th and west 10th
Fun Knicks fan yay.
Wish the cameraman would’ve shown what the game looked like
Maggie Rogers posted the view of the building/projection in her insta stories 😉
The dude who has to work at 5am the next day: fuck.
You think he wasn’t watching too? 😂
And they all probably stood there, down 29. This city years for a championship.
I hope the Knicks pull it off. Scenes like this remind me so much of when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016, just pure euphoria and vibes.
That’s so fucking dope, what an unreal vibe that must be. Game projected onto the side of a building for a watchparty like that already looks like such a good time, I can’t imagine what it’d feel like for a shot / moment like that
That’s actually pretty dope….happy for the Knicks and their long suffering fans
Man I wish my bum ass city would quick fucking around. This looks awesome
A celebration of the city and the team. Need more of this
I love how these transplants are embracing the Knicks
Holy shit! Nice Knicks fans! Wow! It’s a real thing!
That’s probably the most knicks fans in a group without any knicks gear on other than that one hat and 2 orange on fire escape
Greatest city on Earth
Is this happening Saturday? I gotta experience this 🧡💙
New York is a basketball town, don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
C’mon let’s be real for the hate Knicks fans are getting here the last 24 hours; you’d never see THIS from another fanbase in NBA, from another city. Thousands of fans clamoring from the firescapes celebrating like this.
Wait, what’s this? Reddit tells me all Knicks fans are violent thugs and don’t deserve to win anything.
That’s genuinely a lot of white people
Did that guy on the balcony really just throw his beverage on the crowd?
Down 29 they didn’t leave? Take notes Heat fans
That .5 second of everyone collectively holding their breath as OG is in the air…amazing
Inject this into my veins. Love You, NYC.
More cities can have such vibes if they had more density in downtown instead of urban sprawl.
This is what it’s like outside of midtown! Harlem was lit but even the super drunk dudes were just talking to the cops about the Knicks. It was an incredible vibe out there.
Wait where is the rowdiness and property damage everyone in the media and Reddit is talking about????
That one girl in the audience looked down in despair right at the moment of the tip in by OG lol
But where’s Spider-Man?
I hate big franchises but damn the Knicks have the most hardcore fanbase and it’s so refreshing to see
never been to NY but is this the kind of neighborhood where arnold lives in?
They’re gonna have to call the national guard when the Knicks win lmao
Can’t quite put my finger on it, but this wholesome celebration really contrasts the other videos we’re seeing.
What cross street is this? Gonna go saturday
The whole city erupted! every borough was insane!
Block party game watch? Didn’t know this was a thing. Looks like a great time.
This is the representation of Knicks fans that’s most accurate but unfortunately that’s not the narrative
I don’t think I’ve seen New York this united since 9⁄11. God I wish I was out there right now.
This looks like so much fun!!
I’ve never been to NY, just seen it in lots of media. The people on the fire escape is the most NY thing I can think of. Lol
99.99999% of fans but that’s not redditors’ agenda
You couldn’t pay me to be there. If they don’t complete the comeback, just imagine the scene that breaks out here.
Look at all those Knicks fans tearing shit up. THESE are the real fans. Love to see it
No POC?
No cap..this shit looks lit🔥
Were there any Spurs fans in there that were actually safe? Seems like a 100% Knick block.
The people who just stand there and film… bro learn to enjoy life
@concretecowboiiiii @riddlebetch @Ryukishin187 @WinLoseWin9
^allow me to introduce you 4 to the real Knicks fanbase since you seem to think the video that got taken down last night of <100 ppl represent 8M people.
If you want to know who we are, as a fanbase and as a city, here it is.
If you want to stay salty, the Dead Sea is taking applications.
This is so crazy I might even message my ex who lives in the city
Low key giving 16 Cleveland vibes
Yes my NYC fans!! Love the one gal that couldn’t even watch and looked down.
Anyone know where in the city this was?
Great that they stuck around for the come back. I turned it off at halftime thinking the game was over lol
Like out of a movie
Wow where was this?
What a massive fumble by the Spurs man, holy shit. The amount of work they will have to put in now is insane, I don’t see them coming back from this.
They shouldn’t be jumping on that fire escape
I think I’m just old now but that looks HORRIFYING. I would be extremely stressed if I was anywhere but the very edge of that crowd. I get the heebee jeebees just watching the video.
I scared the shit out of my dog when I jumped off the couch screaming my head off!!
Amazing.
This was the west village on w.10th just off 7th. Projections on the wall where the little map mural is. 2 days before I was there getting a few pics, crowd was 1⁄4 the size but lively. Were a few small local clusters like to too, with outdoor projections. Good vibes.
Reminds me of the Deer District in 2021. Enjoy it, New York! It’s a memory I’ll cherish for the rest of my life and will likely never be topped when it comes to sports. Something about the first one before they start preparing to shut impromptu stuff like this down makes it all the more exciting.
This looks like fun! 🤩 and so happy to see a normal celebration with no assholeness
I see him everywhere I look
As a Pacers fan, can not believe I’m rooting for the fucking Knicks to win a championship…
Only imagine if the eagles fans were doing the same thing. Never hear the end of it. FTK
I’m confused, 99% of them should be committing violent acts
Does anyone know exactly where this was? Looks west village, lower east side to me
Am I the only one seeing a sea of white people? Where are the PoC?
Looks like something out of a movie 🎥 🤣💪🏾
