I love Brunson, but saying he should be the FMVP over KAT is way too much recency bias. KAT is THE reason the Knicks were ever up 2-0 while Brunson was still figuring it out. KAT is the the only reason they can even compete with Wemby. He’s the lynch pin for beating San Antonio.
I dunno, Brunson brought them back and won game 1. Then he led the comeback tonight, with OG. KAT dominated game 2 and they were both bad game 3. KATs defense has been consistently good outside of game 3 but that’s not gonna be enough unless he’s huge in the clincher.
KAT isnt the only reason that’s a bit disingenious. Brunson is the one getting doubled and creating the advantage on offense allowing other players to get easy shots which is most valuable.
I dont understand the argument for Brunson. He has been horrific on offense and he is one of the worst defenders ever. OG has been the best on offense and the best on defense for the Knicks.

When Brunson hits a couple shots, Mitch Johnson goes right back to that damn zone defense. They keep forcing Wemby to step out and chase shooters everywhere, and the paint is always wide open. They’re getting killed on the boards — either it gets tipped out to them or it’s just free possessions for them.
Just stick to playing everyone straight up and let Brunson go one-on-one — that’s it. Instead, they’re still stuck with that stupid zone, with all the trapping and switching.
On offense, they’re not even running anything to get Wemby closer to the rim. They just park him on the perimeter and let everyone jack up threes together — no pressure at the rim, no drawing fouls.

Yup yup yup. The fake zone is a gimmick for a reason, it’s usually good in bursts or when the other team isn’t prepared for it with extra off-ball screens/shooters in each corner to spread out Wemby, but gets exploited after time. On offense, they ran some sort of PnR/Spanish PnR for Wemby 3 plays in a row near the top of the fourth and got 2 good possessions and one turnover out of it, so naturally they didn’t run anything with more movement than another high PnR or weak side ISO the rest of the game. Just unbelievably bad in-game management. Mitch is clearly good at coaching freelance offense and Sweeney clearly can design good defensive schemes, but Mitch’s in-game adjustment management is blatantly AWFUL. I feel silly sometimes because EVERY fan whines about the coach’s “adjustments” after the game, but it’s so blatantly been a coaching issue in almost every Spurs loss this playoffs (except 1-2 OKC losses and the Wemby ejection loss) that you literally cannot primarily blame anyone else

It’s not a double team call. Fox probably thought he should try to trap there but this is such a low basketball IQ play. A 7’4 Wemby does not help guarding a 6’2 guard. Even if Fox does help with prevent Brunsom from driving in the middle he still had time to recover to check OG and box him out. Fox doesn’t care to check OG at all in that manner.
This is genuinely one of the most boneheaded plays I’ve seen from a singular basketball player. Haven’t seen a basketball player be so dumb like Fox. The only time I see dumb plays like this is from Westbrook on the offensive end.

Sure he probably gets it but they might have to go back court to ensure that. Especially if you took a page from NY and put Wemby on the inbounds like they did with Kat (who tipped the inbound and won the game). I just think the only scenario it makes sense to not have Wemby by the paint is if you have him on the inbound pass, everything else in a late game situation with enough time for a shot and a rebound is insane to me.
