[SNY] Mike Brown on Jose Alvarado’s “unbelievable” performance tonight: “I’m gonna fucking clap for Jose. Sorry mom.”
Adjusting by putting him on the court to give the Knicks a second ballhandler was such a great move
He was so clutch as well. Hit a layup, a 3 and then smartly managed to not commit a backcourt violation, which allowed them to call a timeout before OG’s game winner.
The movement too, he helped us switch the side of the floor so much quicker and drag players, so Brunson could get the switch he wanted
For real, there was one pick he set where he came all the way from the opposite corner full sprint. Thats the execution you need
He set some great screens tonight, despite being the smallest/second smallest guy on the floor
the Brunson pnr with him was highly effective. kudos to Brown for recognizing his value because Jose has been a menace whenever he’s been on the court this series.
0 turnovers too. Ice in his veins off the bench.
dude a better screener than KAT 😭
A lot of people smarter than me on Knicks twitter were clamoring for it. Welcome adjustment. Just need to make sure Deuce McBride doesn’t enter the game ever
killed all the momentum with his rushed shots. i’ve seen enough, bench him the rest of the series
He’s been ice fucking cold
It’s funny that now there’s been all this “death of the PG” and “no small guards” talk (especially related to the draft) but a consistent theme is that teams fall apart without proper ball handlers, especially when they just have one that can get pressed the entire game.
Because people have become obsessed with number to the point they are ignoring the flow of the game. It doesn’t matter how good and efficient your scorers are if you can’t get your offense moving. Initiating an offense is such an important skill, especially in the playoffs. It’s why I personally rank Luka so highly because he is the best at that out of the super stars.
It’s because of how good jumbo initiators look in the regular season when defenses are much worse and giving much less effort.
I thought Cade Cunningham had improved his ballhandling as much as anyone since college when I noted it was a legitimate issue but playoff time it still isn’t enough with the constant blitzing of the ball handler and having no secondary to play off of.
Ive been screaming it since g2
He kept the Knicks moving when bruson went down in game 1 too.
Much much much much better than Clarkson.
Really shows how much the J-Dub/Ajay injuries impacted OKC against San Antonio. Both of those guys healthy and Thunder are playing the Knicks rn
Mike Brown just accidentally discovered, and showed the league how to put an end to all this Wemby in the same breath as Kareem nonsense. Replay the WCF now and OKC slices these dirtbags up.
Idk how you managed to both undermine Mike Browns coaching and make it about the Thunder in one comment like that, but that’s amazing “horrible comment” efficiency
Only dude on that bench who did anything remotely positive lmfao
Our bench looked like Philly’s tonight lol
Deuce has been shook
his mins need to be reduced next game he’s a negative on the court if he’s not gonna score open looks
You gotta give em a look every game. You never know when a shooter is gonna have a night.
Same with Shamet. Landry has been bad during G3-G4, but we need to see if they have it.
It’s cool, that just means we can keep him next year when we run it back
My gut is telling me that he just straight up hasn’t been right since that abdominal surgery earlier this year. He hasn’t shot well at all since he came back, and has looked a step slower than usual.
Hopefully he just needs a full off-season to get right.
I think you’re right, these spurs guards are tough as they come both sides of the ball, if he’s not 100% it’s tough to be out there
I mean he hit like 7 3s in that game against the sixers. I think he’s still clearly showing that he’s capable I just agree that it probably will take the off-season for any semblance of consistency to come back
Deuce’s shooting will come around.
He has been horrible for 98% of the playoff run
The 2% was game 4 against Philly. I thought he’s been good for more than 2% though.
Edit: Nah. He held down the fort in game 2 against the Spurs, along with that Mikal with the bench unit lineup in the end of the third. He’s been good for longer.
Yeah he was awesome in the close out game in Philly. Been brutal otherwise
Shamet’s been disappointing the past two games and I feel concerned whenever Deuce shoots a 3 this series.
I still got hope for Shamet, but deuce is a disaster rn
Shamet’s cooling down, which is understandable since he went like 90 percent from 3 last series. He was always going to regress because of that. Deuce on the other hand besides the bank 3😬
But that’s what makes this Knick team so dangerous. You never know where the knife is coming from.
Shamet is just reverting a bit which is to be expected, nobody is gonna shot 75%+ from 3 all playoffs.
Deuce has been bad bad, though.
Jeremy Sochan straight up did not look like a NBA player on the court
he’s not
Yeah he only sees the floor on pure defense/rebounding possessions or when our bigs are in foul trouble. Even then it’s usually Hukporti first
Philly’s bench catching a stray. Luckily there was nobody on it to get hurt.
Hey
Plus, Bridges was horrific again. And kat and hart were quiet. Winning despite all of that is impressive
You should know how foul trouble KAT plays
I do unfortunately, at least he tried to turn it around late. Still, overall not a good game for him
KAT was still very good on defense, he just didn’t do much offensively
Jose was incredible. They found something with two guard lineup with him and Brunson. Takes pressure off Jalen.
I gotta think the Spurs can exploit that backcourt lack of size with a more focused gameplan after a little prep but it basically won the Knicks a game in the Finals so it served its purpose
The punch - counterpunch will be super interesting. They have perimeter shooting with that lineup and they hunt wemby to draw him out of the paint so we can clean up the boards
The counterpunch will probably come in terms of exploiting the defense of a Brunson/Alvarado backcourt, offensively it is probably the best thing the Knicks can do for their offense since it gets a secondary ballhandler in there.
we saw glimpses of it tonight when there were instances of Jose having to guard Wemby due to some switches lol. that’s the risk for the next game
So many times in the 4th when they doubled Brunson, Jose would be the outlet and did something good.
night and day difference between game 3 and tonight. it was so frustrating seeing Brunson trapped last game and nobody running to him to get the pass.
Puerto Rican day parade is on Sunday so he must’ve been channeling energy
Man, I like Mike Brown. He seems like one of, if not the only coach in the NBA that isn’t some monotone robot giving scripted, dry answers. Man speaks from the heart.
I don’t know if it’s always been that way, but New York will do that to you. If you’re emotionally intelligent, you realize that the fanbase will respond much better to truth, and realness, then corpo-speak.
Ehhhh I don’t know how true that is. Eli Manning and Derek Jeter are two of the biggest names in NY sports over the past couple decades and they were both masters at the corpo-speak
Yeah but Eli looks like he knows what glue tastes the best so it makes him endearing.
Jfc I’m infuriated that you would insult my all time favorite New York sports athlete like that.
It was crayons he ate. Get it right ffs
Lord Jesus that was diabolical LMAO
Its OKC trend. Every single member of their org is media trained to bone.
two huge threes, that slick little hesi layup, and avoiding the over n back. huge
The 360 to befuddle Wemby was so clever.
Mike Brown keeping him in down the stretch was huge. What a good decision. Easily could have subbed him out after a great run and put bridges in but he decided to not change what was already working
Damn it’s like a disney movie storyline for the undersized hometown kid 🥲
Hes clapping no hands
thank god he said for
Jose was awesome. That layup in clutch time he hit when he went around Champagnie was absurd.
I wanna see that highlight again. That was true definition of the spin cycle. Champagnie got washed.

Thanks.
Glad I could help!
Put some respect on 2021 ACC champ Jose Alvarado’s name
god i wish we were able to keep him in Atlanta after college
can he shoot?
Yes he can shoot
That’s my guy 😭
He coached the hell out this game. Looking at how deep he went on the bench and finally found a spark on the bench.
the circle run he did to get wemby to turn his back was increcible
The spurs were playing against Brunson and Alvarado a good chunk of that second half but still just settled for jacking up 3s every possession, such a stupid gameplan
It can be said enough how incredible fearless Jose has been. What a dream story for this kid to be on this stage and making a difference
This thing where his mom doesn’t want him to curse on TV and he fails every time is the cutest thing
Ayo pause
Brown benched Bridges and went with Alvarado.
Johnson rode with Fox and benched Harper.
Coaching your team back from a 29 pt deficit in the finals is just amazing work. He called it in his sideline interview that they would need some luck, and boy did they get it. Also some idiotic coaching and terrible basketball decisions from Spurs players.
Alvarado helped speed the game up and the Spurs fell right into it. They kept taking quick threes, Wemby got tired, and the rest is history
Mama Brown doesn’t like Jose?
Brown doesn’t like to curse
Grand Theft Alvarado to become Grand Trophy Alvarado.
BORRRIIICCUAAA
YES I CAN SHOOT
He hit that okie doke spinaroody layup in the fourth which was sweet!
I keep thinking he’s Hannibal Buress
Jose gonna clap all night that im sure
He has to play more. Guy was huge
He should have been ejected for trying to tackle a player
It IS unbelievable when you get away with spear tackling someone in the NBA finals. Truly a one of a kind performance.
