[Highlight] Jalen Brunson misses the potential game-winner over Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox gets the ball at the other end, and instead of wasting the clock, he goes for a layup, and gets blocked by OG Anunoby.
One of the dumbest decisions I’ve ever seen lol. All he had to do was dribble out
1 second more and he would be fouled, so fucking stupid
As a lifelong Spurs hater, I find it amusing that he asked for a foul after getting blocked when the Knicks were going to foul him anyway if he didn’t take the shot.
That’s actually so funny
Jesus wept
Lot of contact there. If he sells it I bet they blow the whistle
Framw by frame OG absolutely bumps him pretty good but no ref is going to call that in a finals.
I also really do not feel like blaming the refs when Fox just made one of the dumbest plays in NBA history.
How does he have less awareness than players on their rookie contract
He left the Kangz but the Kangz havent left him yet
10 years on the Kings will do that to you
What a brain dead play. Even if he made it, you still give the Knicks a shot to tie. All he had to do was dribble, waste like 3 seconds and then go to the line.
This is obviously not excusing the bad choice, but my gut says in his head the Knicks are on a fucking insane run. Energy in the building is electric, on the court to the Spur it probably feels like the Knicks have fucking ascended and are playing 6 feet above your head right now.
In that moment, game on the line, with the Knicks outscoring you like 30 to 16 at that point in the quarter, I bet it was just pure reflex to try and get points on the board.
Again obviously not saying it was a good choice lol it literally lost them the game, but trying to put myself in his shoes I bet it was just straight reflex. Im sure hell struggle to sleep at night over that choice 50 years from now. Oh well anyways Knicks in 5 lets go New York babbyyyy
Fox is also a step slower than normal. He had a lead on OG on a fast break, and OG caught up. That does not happen to Fox, it’s usually an easy layup if he’s healthy.
He thought he had an open layup. But after he decided, turned out he didn’t actually have it. But he didn’t have the wherewithal to change his mind. Bad decision, but not as bad as people made it out to be.
He just wanted the potential And1 to put the game away. Got greedy
Yup, it’s a 1 possession game either way, you want to take as much time off the clock as possible so the Knicks have, say, 6 seconds instead of 9 to try and tie.
Of course, this is assuming he makes his free throws…
Prob scared to shoot the free throws
Nah hes just dumb, he would have made both.
you havent watched enough kings games to know he would’ve missed at least one. piss poor FT shooter for a PG
Missing one is still better than decision he made.
nah he is a good free throw shooter and isnt afraid. just dumb decision
one of the worst nba finals 4th quarter plays up there with jr smith
Harper is already better than him, he don’t do shit
This narrative is why he tried to be the hero.
And he’s supposed to be the vet-clutch players on this team. Missed a million shots too
To be fair he spent most of his career on the Kings, he was never taught how to win games.
Fox with 3 braindead plays in the 4th to give Knicks the game. Veteran leadership my ass
Also had that random 3rd quarter turnover where he saw Castle & Wemby and his brain just short circuited on which one to pass to and he passed it in between both lol
Disasterclass of just unforced errors and shit decision making from him tonight.
Then OG hit a three on the other end. Pretty big series during the comeback.
Well they were both in the backcourt too and Fox had already crossed half court, so it would have been a backcourt, I feel like that’s why both threw hands up
Harper is 500% better than fox,
I was screaming for Harper and timeouts in the last 2 minutes.
Harper’s ceiling is terrifying.
he’s already the Spurs leading rookie scorer in the playoffs, and the other names on TV under him were Spurs legends like Robinson, Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili.
this kid is gonna be amazing.
500% or 0 is still 0. But I get what you are saying
this shows the difference between veteran regular season leadership, which Fox arguably has
and veteran playoff leadership, which Fox clearly doesnt have
I would love to know if that step back he took out of the timeout was the play drawn bc if it was the coach needs to be fired
He have 3 brain dead moment in the last minute.
The long 2 pointer may have been a designed play. I think there were about 35 seconds on the clock at that point. A quick shot gives them the ball to end the game.
And it’s impossible to know what the coverage was in the timeout. It’s hard to argue with sending two players at Brunson with the ball in a short clock situation and Wembanyama is typically very good at recovering.
Yeah I can give that long 2 a pass, he is not contested, but given spurs situation they got draw something better than a long 2
Don’t forget the dribble off his own foot
Theres some weird Fox stans that will gaslight people into thinking hes the 2nd best player on the team. We’ve seen multiple times throughout the season of Fox shitting the bed in the 4th
4th best and sometimes the 5th best when Vassell hits his shots
That was so incredibly stupid holy shit
The whole team choked as hard as possible, but even still this play right here most likely took the series from 2-2 to 3-1
Analytically, the spurs are up 3-1
Honestly 4-0 tbh
I’m looking at the numbers and…it’s really closer to 5-0
They couldve been up 3-1!
Analytically, the Knicks have lost 8 in a row.
Kangz influence doesn’t completely disappear even when gone
The biggest choke job in NBA history.
yeah haha i mean nothing else comes close right
You are welcome.
losing a 3-1 lead is pretty pathetic tbh
That might still be the warriors choking a 3-1 lead in 2016. Single game choke job though this is it
Terrible position to be in for the spurs. Only Lebron has ever come back down 3-1 in the finals and Wemby ain’t no Lebron (yet?)
Personally I feel like if I were a Spurs fan, I’d have to feel worse about this than I felt in 2016. It was heartbreaking beyond belief, but even in the moment, I wasn’t surprised or shocked. We had 3 games left to play, hobbled Steph, Bogut out, Draymond suspended — meanwhile Lebron and Kyrie played some of the best basketball I’ve ever seen. I think that’s an easier pill to swallow vs. whatever the Spurs did tonight, especially given how bad the Knicks played.
This hurts cuz they keep doing it to themselves. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
They are young and still full of stupid. It happens man. Knicks did stupid shit too.
Quite literally. It wasn’t a series winning game but it sure was close.
Didn’t some Magic guy miss 4 straight free throws in the 1995 finals?
Nick Anderson. He got the yips after that. His ft percentage was 40% that next season.
Nick Anderson
Didn’t know we traded a terrorist to the Spurs.
First Haliban now Fox.
Nah, that honor is held by the Warriors losing from 3-1 in NBA FINALS!!
Fox needs to be gone
Tonight
He should walk home with a ball superglued to his hands in hopes he learns to just keep it lol
Tarmac’d
Inaugural Clutch Player of the Year btw. He just needed to hold the ball and let Knicks foul, wtf is that guy thinking.
Klutch
One of the dumbest decisions I’ve ever seen
Near JR Smith levels of dumb
It’s a lot worse, JR legitmately didn’t know how much time he had. Fox had time to assess the situation and dribble it out and he fucked it.
Yeah it honestly is. JR at least thought they were ahead (really dumb) but he had the right idea trying to dribble the clock out which you should do with a lead.
Fox went up for a contested layup instead of dribbling the clock out/waiting for a foul.
Isn’t that just the same thing in reverse? Thinking they were down instead of up?
kings won the trade
Fuck it turn the beam on
Hang the banner
Going to need to attach some assets
His extension hasn’t even kicked in yet lol
Tried to tell yall
Probably need a frp to get rid of him
Surely gonna need more than that considering any FRP of their own they send will basically be second rounders.
You’ll suffer as I did with Tobias Harris. Have fun.
Stupidest play of all time?
this has gotta beat jr smith. that one went to OT, this one straight up lost
Yeah also even if the Cavs win that game they still lose the series. Spurs were in this one if they tied it
JR Smith play still the funniest though, might be the greatest Lebron reaction ever
I get that makes the play more impactful. But how does that make it stupider? You can argue this is the worse play, but in terms of stupidity, nothing will top running out the clock when you don’t have the lead. Any play that tries to score is less stupid than the JR play.
It‘s stupid in the sense of general stupidity, because how could you mistake the score. But Fox‘ play was 100% more stupid in a basketball sense because for the score that JR assumed in his head, it was actually the right play
I can get just taking the basket on a breakaway.
But pretty poor read on who was closing in on him.
Yeah can understand it in real time, especially how badly they couldn’t score to close the game, but it’s a massive risk. The refs aren’t gonna bail you out unless you get clotheslined here.
De’Aaron Fix
Brought to you by DraftKings
DraftKangz
No way this is stupider than JR smith. At least his thought process can be explained here, he thought he had a wide open layup which is better than getting fouled.
definitely, from gaining back finals home court advantage of what would have been a best of 3, to being down 1-3.
On par with JR smith. Legitimately so fucking stupid you just sit there and disassociate
at least with smith it’s like you know he did that cuz he thought they were winking; i have no idea why fox would do that
He thought he had an open layup and figured that’s better than getting fouled
even if it was an open layup, dribbling out the clock till you get fouled would have been better
reminds me of that Westbrook layup that got Denver’s coach fired
He’s the dumbest player on a team full of kids. “Veteran point guard” LOL people defending this guy need to face reality at some point.
Crazy because rookie Harper is better than him already
Part of it is that Harper is really damn mature for his age… but jesus Christ Fox is a moron lol
This final stretch of play from Fox is head scratching to say the least
He had so many stupid turnovers leading up to this, I seriously cannot believe this shit.
He literally had turnovers that lead to the Knicks scoring. Why didn’t mitch Johnson sit him out???
I was begging for the ball away from his hands since the turnovers in the third.
4 bone headed plays on top of this one. Unreal bro holy shit
Yup gg to the knicks good run
Dumb as hell by Fox regardless but doesn’t OG foul him like 2 diff times on this play?
Yes he doesn’t even touch the ball. He literally bodies him hard, you can see fox get thrown backwards and OG slaps his arm not the ball. Smart play to hack but officials let him do it, just pathetic to swallow the whistle there.
Yes it’s an obvious foul. They stopped calling those on the Knicks after halftime
Stop crying lol! Y’all were saying that to Knicks fans in the 1st half
They gave KAT two ticky-tack fouls in the first minute, no way you’re complaining about the refs lol
Wembumyama should already be suspended stfu🫃
History won’t remember unfortunately, that’s how this shit always goes
Making up for not calling anything on the spurs in the 1st half. Or Wemby not being suspended.
Here come the tears!
Oh this is fucking RICH lmao
Y’all choked 29 pt lead away bc your team decided to be the Boston Celtics in the 2nd half. Instead of driving to protect the lead or feeding the ball to the 7’5 guy, you chucked three after three. The Knicks didn’t even have a crazy point total in the 2nd half. If I told you a team blew a 27 point lead in one half you’d think the opposing team had a half like you all did first half.
He did get fouled but you know what woulda been better?
Dribbling those 13 seconds away and the fouls woulda come to him.
I think he might have been trying to get the and one which isn’t totally crazy thing to do but killing time probably better play regardless yeah.
There is no justifying this. No fucking way you do anything other than hold the ball. And one and all is the analytical version of how to play
That was clearly a foul by OG.
You gotta leave Fox in New York.
I know it was a stupid decision, but is that not pretty clearly a foul by OG?
It was. OG didn’t even touch the balk
Here’s my thing… Fox is going to get blamed for it. But he got fouled like he was supposed to do anyway. Refs just didn’t call it. Honestly, that was a head scratching no whistle by the refs.
No more fouls for the spurs after the wemby flagrant
Yes it clearly is but refs didn’t care they were feeding the comeback when they basically stopped calling fouls against the Knicks in the 2nd half.
This is jr smith level of stupid
this made jr smith look like a point god
Worse than JR Smith level. Fox played terrible in the last two possessions. Coach didn’t help much in second half either
Is deaaron fox stupid??
He is
He even doubled down on that decision after being interviewed about it. Says he had to take a layup to get up by 3 but just a good block by OG. You can’t make this shit up. He’s really just an idiot.
Orrr get fouled, shoot free throws and be up 3 anyways. But he woulda missed the free throws anyways. Truly a generational choke.
They’re not letting Fox on the plane
MVP OG
Fox gotta go
Pop needs to yell at Mitch for keeping Fox in for so long
That play will haunt me for years
I still think about JR’s boneheaded play in 2017 and that was in a series we were probably gonna lose anyway. Whereas this…
So yes can confirm, you’ll never forget
Mitch Johnson get ready to learn Chinese buddy
Fox. What the ever loving shit. You’re the vet on this team. wtf.
how can the lead guard of an NBA finals team be this boneheaded?
My apologies, Westbrook, maybe you weren’t that bad in retrospect. Also, at least had an excuse of inexperience.
I mean, Westbrook basically did this exact same play that one game against Minnesota and fouled a 3 pointer on the other end right after
Absolute sell by Fox. No presence of mind to slow it down and force them to foul you.
Do players still not understand the lore of the chase down block in the clutch?
Trade Fox
Fox didnt use any of his two brain cells he has
Most clutch tip in NBA history
This was dumb as fuck, but that was a foul right?
THANK YOU ZOHRAN
De’Aaron fox then leaves OG for the free O-board for the game winner. Generational choke
Yeah was a dumb decision but it does look like a foul also
dumbass play but how is that not a foul?
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING
The Spurs truly did snatch defeat from the Jaws of victory.
Wtf was Fox doing lol. OG was so obviously on his ass. Just dribble the air out of the ball there lmao. So glad I got to watch this crazy comeback
Career defining play for Fox. Was also a career defining play for OG, for only a couple minutes lol
He grabbed the ball at exactly 12.8 seconds left.
All he had to do was DRIBBLE IT OUT FOR 13 fucking seconds. The foul was coming 100%. DAMN.
BRO WHATTTTTTT
FMVP him
That’s your vet??
Harper is way more of a vet despite literally being a rookie. Insanity.
Why tf not call a timeout as soon as fox got the board. Johnson is an idiot
Why would you call a timeout?? Just hold the ball.
Sacramento Fox haters are feasting right now 😅
THEY WERE DOWN 29
This is an all-time legendary highlight. Wow.
I got to see it live. That was simply spectacular and magnificent. A truly Championship level play
I can’t believe what i just witnessed
Alvarado was THIS close to a backcourt violation lol.
Zero situational awareness
Absolute idiot
Dylan Harper deserves more minutes than him
Shit in the moment it didn’t even occur to me that the shot clock was off. I didn’t even realize how big of a fuck up this was at the time.
The “vet” point guard who has his brain scrambled in the most important game. Didn’t box out the last play either.
Never won anything and it shows.
Mitch Johnson and his staff have shown repeatedly through the playoffs that they do not have this team prepared for late game situations. This is stuff even 15 year olds playing 2k understand. Guy is a complete novice
Thank god Fox isn’t my point guard
Kings fans: Inject this shit into my justified veins. Fuck you Fox you choke ass bitch
idiot
What an awful shot
How do you allow that as a coach
They gotta make him walk to the hotel still wearing his jersey
Fox is the most obvious “dynasty starts after you” player.
two games where they can just end it safely with a timeout. this team would probably be up 3-1 in the series if the team knows how to use their timeouts in the last seconds.
Brutal for Fox, but he probably thinks he’s all alone and an easy bucket extends your lead. Hindsight this is brutal, but in the heat of the moment it’s not so easy
Fire this bum on the spot
I was mindblown at this, costing his team
This is the “veteran pg” on the team. Absolute knuckle head this whole series. He needs to be traded immediately
Thats the nail that’s gonna seal his trade
Dynasty starts after this idiot
What a decision to go for the layup there. Abysmal IQ play
JR smith this is for you!!!
Dumbass Fox not holding the ball with the lead and 10 seconds left. You’d get fouled for free throws.
