[Highlight] OG Anunoby tips the ball in to give the Knicks the lead
From a historical half-time Finals lead to an all-time choke job. This series is on crack.
The Spurs’ greatest strength is their biggest weakness. Crazy energy and effort from their youth. But, they get a lead and think it’s over. Happened time and time again through these playoffs
That’s not true. Our biggest weakness is that we have absolutely no offensive scheme besides “be better”. We don’t do long ball movement chains, we don’t really use pick and rolls much. We just rely on one of our guys being able to get into space and then kick it out. Once we stall out we have absolutely nothing to restart our engines, as you saw tonight (and have seen repeatedly throughout the playoffs).
I think there really isn’t a real system built for deep playoffs run yet for your roster. Nobody expected the Spurs to reach the finals. You guys already exceeded a lot of expectations this season.
The Spurs were always expected to reach the playoffs and once that happens it’s anyone’s game
yeah but they’re playing with house money the whole way through. their core players are in years 3, 2, and 1
Is the start of blame the coach? That’s step 1, once he’s gone then it’s time to blame the players
I think its just the fact the key players are young, they can’t handle the pressure, they don’t have their go to shots, and some some bad turnovers from fox
I mean going 25-7 and wemby going 1-9 shots with no time outs is a coaching issue. Rhythm needed to be changed.
I was surprised when the Knicks went on a run in the 4th early on and their coach just…let them do it. Like even I know you gotta break up their rhythm and talk to your guys
Everyone thinks the timeout is just about breaking the rhythm. You have to give your players something to change to actually matter.
How about not chucking threes, 8 seconds into every shot clock?
A coach should have plays in their playbook for all kinds of situations. When you have a huge lead you want to run the clock, which quick 3s do not do. Instead of watching on the sidelines, especially with a young team, a coach should call a timeout and tell his team to run set plays instead of letting their guys run around like headless chickens chucking up any three they can.
That was one of the worst coaching jobs I’ve ever seen, especially considering the context.
Agree, but also they run out of gas by the 4th. Knicks went deep into their bench tonight and absolutely needed every body on that bench tonight.
Knicks remember all their “PT” training under Thibodeau. A lot of them have that extra reserve tank from him.
idgaf about what anyone says, I love Thibs. Whether or not he needed to eventually go, he played a huge role in building up this team.
You go through the Knicks, you have to go piece by piece through the entire city. Like the end of elevated train sequence in Spider-Man 2.
Saturday is going to be crazy in NYC with Game 5 and Brazil vs Morocco.
Yeah mostly the first thing though.
You underestimate Brazilians.
Born too late to explore the earth. Born too early to explore space. Born just in time to see the greatest comeback
I’m vibrating and the scream I made when it happened probably scared my neighbors
Holy fucking shit. That’s the most clutch tip I’ve ever seen
Biggest shot in Knicks history
Given the circumstances that’s maybe the biggest ever. That was nuts in the craziest game it ends like that
Ray Allen, kyrie, and kawhi all bigger for sure but it’s up there!
It’s either Kyrie or Allen for sure, game 7 for Kyrie and if Allen doesn’t make it they lose the finals, but this one is top 5 at least
There’s also Jordan over Russell (he might’ve pushed off)
Sir, what?
Ray Allen hit a 3 down 3 with 5 seconds remaining, down 3-2 in the series lol
And he did it while running backwards
Gotta be one of the biggest plays in NBA Finals history. Tip in to win the game in the biggest comeback in finals history
If the Knicks close out, this has the potential to be one of the most iconic plays of all time
Also in front of a rabid MSG going crazy instead of shocked away fans
Also giving New York the first home finals win in over 30 years
I need knicks to lose game 5 so they can win game 6 at home
Nope i need them to close it out in San Antonio and go straight to the parade after landing in New York
DONT FORGET THE BLOCK
OG is fucking awesome. Like seriously - the dude is just a straight up baller
Oh I could never forget the block. What a series for OG holy shit
We should call this “The Tip”
BUILD HIM A STATUE NEW YORK PLEASE
James Dolan : “I can’t get a permit to build a statue”
Mandami: “we approved the permit at a height of 18’ but they wanted 21’.”
Why would Mamdani do this?
Mike Brown drew up some shit not seen since Picasso on that play
I genuinely want to believe that the actual gameplan was to draw out Wemby as deep as possible, with Brunson’s objective to heave up a high-arc shot. The rest of the team crash the boards and take advantage of KAT’s mismatch for a rebound.
OG’s play was a fun side-effect and probably the 3rd most probable outcome after KAT rebounding and Brunson actually hitting the shot.
Inbound and then scored the tip in. Insane hustle play.
I saw the comments about it before the clip. This was way crazier than I imagined.
Derrick White tip in against the Heat to force Game 7 is up there
Edit: here’s the post from 3 years ago.
Game-winning block and game-winning shot on back-to-back possessions completing the greatest comeback in Finals history at MSG.
It genuinely doesn’t get more perfect than that for a player.
generational win, OG is the MVP
As far as value provided per dollar paid, performance vs expectations for a player to produce at their role for their team to have a good shot at winning, there’s a strong case to be made that OG is one of the most consistently underrated/overperforming players we’ve seen.
This is all possible because Brunson took a massive paycut to see the greater vision.
He has not played his best basketball in every game (he was great tonight) but his team is good enough to pick him up even in the moments he cant 5v1 the other team like he sometimes can.
OG all time Knicks legend after tonight because Jalen Brunson wanted to play with guys like that more than he wanted 0s.
I mean he’ll probably get free rent and food in NY for the rest of his life so it evens out
He’s like Wemby but better
It’s crazy how he’s literally unfazed and not scared of Wemby at all
dunked on him twice, one-on-one
Took his time on 3s with wemby chasing him, twice!
I’m convinced he’s had his emotions surgically removed
Nah check out how emotional he was after hitting the G3 go-ahead buzzer beater vs. the Celtics:
https://youtu.be/S9xzaMex-LI
I’m not sure you should be calling OG “game winning black”… /s
Did he stutter
That’s genuinely sickening
Absolutely insane. Spurs gotta be sick
They did this to themselves.
They had like ten chances to prevent this
They were taking (and making) bs 3s in the first half. And just kept taking them…
Exactly you’re not gonna be hot all game. Just give it up Harper sit your butt down and get in the paint guys.
Yeah and wind the shot clock down each possession instead of taking a three in the first five seconds. Bad coaching.
I don’t get why teams don’t go FULL BLOWN STALL mode at even the 8 or 9 minute mark of the 4th Q. Who cares about the product and how it looks. At that point the clock is your 6th man. USE IT.
Kept jacking up 3s when they should’ve gone to the paint with Wemby. This is on Wemby too, he’s gotta be more aggressive
Think he got scared of getting that 4th flagrant
He has entirely disappeared during stretches of every game.
What’s hilarious is that they could easily be up 3-1 instead of down 3-1.
Worst choke job of all time. And they were given the game. All Fox had to do was just run back out.
Game started with a choke , ended with a choke , unreal
Yup, DaAaron Fox and bad coaching is hard to overcome .
they have themselves to blame. they completely collapsed.
They’ve collapsed every single game
Fire Mitch Johnson
FireFox.
so many insane mistakes
not calling a time out during either 13 pt run
d’aron fox could’ve dribbled the ball out and won the game, or had 2fts and the knicks like 1 second
after shooting <10% at 3PT during the second half, didn’t stop chucking 3s
like… if you did any of those things in the nba 2k tutorial the AI would correct you and not let you pass.
Not boxing out. Not holding the ball for the easy win by Fox. Some finals losing decisions.
Man they came out of the timeout looking around like they didn’t know who they were guarding. I’m speechless
You could see the look on their faces as the game went on, they genuinely lost their composure and were choking hard. They got too comfortable with that lead, as if they haven’t always had the lead in these games.
if only they had some older guy there that could help them gain their composure - give them some sort of break and a plan.
Chris Paul :(
I would bet my entire checking account of $32.14 that if Chris Paul had the ball in that possession the spurs win.
Like they could literally just play Chris Paul for 10 secs and they win.
Some of that is on them being young but a lot of that is on Mitch Johnson.
Fox going for that lay up was horrible. They had the lead and they had to foul you. Horrible play from this young team.
The dumbest mistake by the oldest player on the court
Fox’s mistake is up there with JR imo. Complete brain dead play. How do you not know the situation at the end of the game like that
That Fox not holding the ball at the end made me thing I had the wrong time in my head.. dude’s a vet being paid 50 million
OG FMVP
This give me joy. He is the ONLY 3&D player in the league. In fact, 3&D is understating how good he is now
He’s much better than a 3/D this game
Him and Alvarado the only ones creating off the dribble this game
He really does look like their best player ngl
Knicks have plot armor ngl
i don’t mean to exaggerate but de’aaron fox is the dumbest man to ever live
You may have taken him out of Sacramento but you can’t take the Sacramento out of him
LIGHT THE BEAM!!
That was so Kangs. All he had to do was dribble and get fouled
The opposite of what JR Smith did in 2018, two sides of the same coin
Hey!!!!
… you’re not wrong
Bargnani moment came full circle for the Knicks.
Genuinely asinine by Fox.
He also had some horrible turnovers
Cost them Game 1 too.
Horrible series for him, I respect he’s playing through injury but these are mental mistakes he cannot make as a vet or even a first year player.
I’d be disgusted with him if I was a Spurs fan.
This ankle injury is not what’s stopping his brain from working. He’s always been a low BBIQ player.
am I insane or could he have dribbled the ball out and around to burn the rest of the clock and won the game - or get fouled and have 2 ft’s and give the knicks like 2 seconds or less?
he could’ve tried to run out as much clock as possible, Knicks would’ve been forced to foul him and give him 2 FTs, potentially putting them up 3pts. instead he takes a stupid ass lay up attempt and gives the ball back to the Knicks with 5 seconds left.
yeah like he burns 3 seconds i’d say going to the corner.. knicks have like 2.7 seconds - make at least one of those FTs and they go to OT or maybe even win.
Heat of the moment no? Anyways that was such a diabolical fumble, holy shit
bailed Mike Brown out BIG TIME for not calling a timeout. any other player there, and we’re roasting Coach Pockets for saving his timeout for the next game
He could dribble out and get a foul. Here, he could go and box out OG seeing Wemby is on Brunson and yet he still try to go to Brunson.
losing a 29 point lead may not be fully on him but the layup at the end definitely cost them the game
He had a bunch of turnovers too leading up to this, like I won’t blame it all on him but this wasn’t his only fumble.
if anything you’re underselling him
That last shot was a war crime
Yeah Spurs aren’t ever living this down.
I’ve never experienced such a shift of emotions from complete sorrow to elation before.
Dreams do come true.
The NBA is funny. If OG doesn’t tip that basket in the Knicks are on fraud watch and the Spurs become favorites. Instead, OG is an instant NY legend and the Spurs are on suicide watch
Duality of man and what not
Before the spurs last attempt. It was either we’re going to be very happy or very sad depending how the next few seconds go. Just a crazy concept.
I was downright depressed at halftime. Just drowning my sorrows in tzatziki dip.
A good dip to drown ones sorrows in.
I mean, they’re young, you’re gonna take your lumps along the way. They absolutely choked this game, but even in the series they’ve had chances to win every single game down the stretch. Their inexperience is really showing in clutch situations, and De’Aaron fox being the vet doing that dumb shit is almost poetic
Don’t worry ESPN has a lot of years of hyping up Wemby
everyone is assuming they will be back. a lot of teams learn the hard way its not that simple
Hard to envision them not getting back. This is a very young team that’s already ahead of schedule. Its crazy to think, but this is probably the worst the Spurs will be for the foreseeable future
A lot of people thought the same about the 2011 thunder. They even had three mvps. Nothing is guaranteed
A lot of people thought the same about the 2025 Thunder, not to mention the ‘24 Celtics and the ‘23 Nuggets. Life comes at you fast
Last year they said OKC would be in the finals for the next 3-6 years. Couldn’t make it.
Same was said about Boston the year before. And Denver before.
People think just cause they did it once, they’d do it always.
Unless you were GSW or a Prime Lebron lead team, it hasn’t happened.
And if Knicks win this year, you’ll hear the same BS all year about “who’s going to beat them the next 3 years” only for them to be packed by someone 2nd round
OG IS THE MVP FOR THE BLOCK AND THE PUTBACK
#HOW IN THE EVER LIVING FUCK!!
his 3s were huge in digging them out of that deficit too
7⁄9 from 3. 10⁄15 from the field. Clutch defense. The putback to win the game. Holy fuck OG.
He is legitmately what every forward in this league should aspire to be
OG OH MY!
And the team wouldn’t even be in this position if it weren’t for his play all game too!!!
Series MVP (If the Knicks win)
Yea at this point I don’t see how he doesn’t win it. He’s been the most consistent Knicks player by far, super efficient the entire series, plus his defensive hustle.
would be amazing after the first team defense snub
OG our sweet prince
He’s been the most consistent by far
This is his Ray Allen 3 pointer. This shot will be on every best of the decade list, every top playoffs shots. He was already loved in Toronto and New York. Now he’s a legend.
it’s his “oh blocked by james” AND “back out to allen” within a span of 20 seconds
Yeah, but he’s James and Allen
Eating free forever in toronto and nyc
DEAARON FOX GET READY TO LEARN CHINESE
GONNA PLAY FOR THE TAIPEI FOXES!
How do you throw that lead. Incredible
Fox sold, bad turnovers down the stretch, made no shots and got blocked when he could have killed clock.
76 points in the first half and only 30 in the second is diabolical.
He got a three down the stretch to push it back to 4. But outside of that my one year old would have been a bigger positive to the Spurs
WOW. Generational game for OG. What a boss.
That shit is going to be a statue outside MSG
We tried to tell y’all bout OG but we got laughed off the court for pricing him too high on the trade block. He is that dude, what a legend
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!!
Insane script writing lol
OG OH MY
No other explanation Mitch Johnson has a severe learning disability
“Surely we can’t go 0-20 from 3 this half, right? Surely we can’t go 0-21? Can’t go 0-22? Can’t go–”
Convinced that some random redditors would have done a better job coaching that 4th quarter including myself. Teams need to find legit coaches instead of filling the position up with the next man up on the coaching roster
OGGGGGGGG
Thought Brunson’s shot was stupid, holy shit what a putback by OG. Hand of god
He saw wemby was on him, he threw a super high arc shot and just hoped his team could rebound for second chance. If wemby was in the paint they have almost no chance at a second chance play.
Wemby and a second defender. A pass to og would have been difficult, time was running out, and it was a 4 on 3 for the rebound.
I think Brunson knew he wasnt getting a good shot double teamed and wanted to give his team a chance to rebound. If he waited longer he still would have a contested three, but no shot at a rebound.
Did the live thread break or something?
Yes lol
million monkeys on a million typewriters all at once got it
This is why you (if you’re an NBA player) play the game for 48. And this is why you (if you’re a fan) never stop supporting for 48.
Supreme hustle from OG.
HOLY FUCK THEY DID IT!!!
I hope you learn from this, shitting on your own team and calling them chokers the entire game until they win
Actually the most insane shit I’ve ever seen
I’m not joking the switch from the ultimate low of being 29 down and series over to that OG tip practically made me leave my body.
SPUR IS THE BIGGEST CHOKER OF THE CENTURY
Literally… im speechless
Generational collapse by the Spurs. Generational blunder by Fox. Absolutely wild conclusion to this game.
OH GEEEEE
OH MYYYYY
if OG has a million fans, then i am one of them. if OG has ten fans, then i am one of them. if OG has only one fan then that is me. if OG has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth. if the world is against OG, then I am against the world.
I know he’s a great announcer and stays unbiased for the most part but you can hear the joy in Mike Breens voice during this whole comeback and I love that for him
WE’RE SOOO BACKKK
Someone explain to me why the fuck Wemby wasn’t in the paint? He’s 7”5 and the coach orders him to guard a guard on the perimeter? Not a coach or pro by any means but even I know that’s stupid. He should be left in that area tied to a chair.
i dont know too much shit about basketball and strategy but i came here looking for this answer lmao why would you not put that giant mf in the paint???
MY PRINCE!!!
OG has to win FMVP. He’s been insane
9 months from now the name Ogugua is gonna have a spike.
Bro KAT was crying
That shit was the greatest most magical comeback oh my word
Oh my god
what a fucking player
huge tip,but why would Brunson take that lmao
He is double teamed and mike brown would tell him to shoot with 3-4 seconds left for the 2nd chance opportunity. It’s a pretty standard NBA strategy.
The spurs had nobody to rebound with Wemby 30 feet from the basket. He made the right move and Mitch Johnson yet again fucked up this series
He wasn’t passing. Watch the last 6 or so possessions, he decided it was on him. That was the best look he was getting
OG might just be the purest DAWG there is
Anunoby will be a legend in NYC for the rest of his life
Mike Breen getting to call that play at MSG. Special.
Deadass about to cry waiting for the train, can’t believe ts
Send Fox to Guadalajara
THANK YOU TAYLOR!!!
