He went back to Europe and is arguably one of the best role-player type of players right now plus he is very consistent with the NT.

He was a scorer, reckless with how he attacked the hoop and not much of a defender. His style of play didn’t necessarily scream long NBA career

He was streaky and his play style didn’t match up with his skill level in the NBA. He was “Turkish LeBron” but unfortunately for Cedi the NBA isn’t Turkey.

Nothing went wrong, he had a big role on a really terrible team and then his role decreased when they got better players. In the NBA he’s a 3 and d guy who was never an elite knockdown shooter and an ok defender at best

Improvement isn’t a straight line up, some guys peter out and nba jobs are really competitive.

This is a great point. Looking at his stats his second year in 18-19 was super solid, started 75 games, 13/5/3 on 43/35/78 splits.

They were probably looking for a bigger jump into year 3 to tell if he was someone they felt good building with/around. Numbers all went down basically, except a little better from 3pt.

Cavs probably felt they were seeing his ceiling. Could be true or could be a development issue. Glad he got a chance for redemption in San Antonio but he didn’t seem to raise his ceiling there, either. The league is tough!

He was a decent player. He’s just older now and is out of the league. In his best year, the Cavs were awful, so he was able to put up solid numbers. When the Cavs got better, he put up decent role player numbers. He had a solid career.

I don’t know if the data backs this up, but based on the eye test he seemed to always brick wide open threes.

A role player PF who cant defend itsnt that much viable now unless you have a really good perimeter defense and center. Teams will often have one of their guards as one of the offensive liability already

I think he could still be a role player in the NBA, but he went home to Europe instead.

I thought his athleticism waned his last couple of years in the NBA (looked to maybe have back injury?), and the shooting never really hit.

Dude is remembered by causals and played meaningful basketball with LeBron to the point where they are considered friends - seems like his career has gone pretty well to me

As a spurs fan, I was happy cedi came to the spurs but he was getting picked on in the defensive end. Just never developed a presence on either end of the court

he was never really that good - decent all-around player, knew where he was supposed to be on the court, not particularly athletic or strong, average shooter….had a decent career considering his ‘average’ size & skillset

Main thing I remember about this dude was him bleeding yellow liquid all over the court. Wild stuff.

He was an older rookie and much of his prime years were spent during the Cavs rebuilding years. He’s 31 now which is around the time the average player can no longer hang in the NBA.

One of the extremely rare cases where it wasn’t injuries, he just wasn’t that good

When players don’t make it there could be a lot of reasons, even if they showed promise.

The wear and tear on the body is massive, even if no real major injury is a cause. Decades (including childhood/teens) of playing can grind a body down.

In some cases, the player just plateaus. We are not all built the same, and cannot reach the same levels, when it comes to sports.

Sometimes it’s just will. Playing at the top of any professional sport almost always requires grueling dedication, with the greats having an almost 24/7/365 mentality where true time off is minimal. You miss things, family, friends, etc.

I thought he gave up basketball and starred in the 2023 The Flash movie as Barry Allen.
