Knicks legends Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin finally reunite after years
I’m kinda surprised Lin still ended up doing this
I like to think it means they had that private conversation JLin wanted.
Lin confirmed they did on pablo torre yesterday
thats good to hear
Pablo always finds out.
God I need to listen to that, I bet it’s a great episode
Same. But it feels like JLin said that response thinking Melo wouldn’t want to have a private talk.. but maybe because it happened now JLin has to do the pod haha
Nah just as a general rule it makes sense to have a private convo with someone before a public convo so you can establish what topics you’re comfortable about speaking on camera and if there’s any hurt feelings or whatnot to sort out in the aftermath.
Cam Newton and Steve Smith didn’t talk privately first. Cam said he wanted to the first convoy to be live so everyone could say how they really felt
That makes for better content but imo if you’re trying to actually have a productive conversation and relationship with someone, better to do it privately.
U delusional or really hate melo
Nah, Nuggs Melo was one of my fav players when I first started following NBA.
I’m just surprised on Lin doing the pod that’s all.
Same, with me it was NBA Live 2004 and I picked him 1st in the fantasy draft. After that I realized how good he actually was in real life and not just in the game
That’s a cynical take that doesn’t really jive with the tone of Lin’s original statement. It feels like JLin said that because he’s an emotionally intelligent guy who cares more about relationships than internet clout. If Melo showed he was willing to meet him in the middle, he was happy to do the podcast.
Idk why people think Carmelo Anthony of all people is jealous or holds some grudges against Jeremy Lin
Because people here are more focused on insulting people they hate and propping up people they love. As a Laker fan, I’m sure you see it with any Kobe thread.
You guys talk about Jeremy Lin like he’s 14 years old. It’s so absurd
Redditors in shambles. I said at the time “what if Melo just sees this and… has a talk with him?” and apparently this was unfathomable. Everybody was so eager to attack Melo over something he didn’t even have a chance to do yet.
Two things redditors love:
being wrong
telling everyone when they were right.
I am wrong all the time so that one time I am right you can bet I am telling everyone.
Melo has always been a business man first who reluctantly played basketball. There was ZERO chance this wasn’t going to happen eventually.
Does he do ad reads live on pods or pre-recorded?
Would be funny if it was live tho, mid air clearing “brought to you by Draft Kings!”
Most podcasts charged based on the guest, or the ad service does that for them. It’s why you don’t see some staple advertisements on bigger episodes of shows.
He usually has his other host do that
It reminds me of how Steve Nash looks like a tool reading ads for LeBron James.
Social media built that up way too much lol
Maybe Lin himself is tired of the storylines around this. It really feels like some people on Reddit are more offended on Lin’s behalf than Lin is. Not everyone thrives on farming being a permanent victim. Lin is building his career as sportscaster and has a player’s reputation in his own right maybe he doesn’t wanna be known as the poor baby Melo wasn’t nice to that one time. You can see in this thread that some will never move on from this and will create narratives regardless. Internet never tires of beating a dead horse.
Any thread about melo on here I just skip immediately cause I always know how it’ll end up
Said it in another thread from couple days ago but everyone my age that grew up watching that whole 03 class in middle/high-school still love Melo lol
Sometimes I think this sub is just way younger then everyone claims 🙄
Like the lack of play-off success was rough, the injuries sucked, and the what’s ifs like CP3 trade superteam but it was always still exciting to watch Knicks games when Melo was playing.
Heck one of the clips i still remember the most to this day was a tough loss. During one of the last years of Melos times on Knicks there was a close game the Knicks fought back into and Melo was giving some vintage performance in the 4th to pull them back. But he missed the last shot and was just laying back on the scorers table looking exhausted and defeated/down as the final whistle blew, then there was a quick clip of some little kid reaching in from the stands to pat him on the shoulder.
Often, I fear that most online spaces to discuss pro basketball are overwhelmingly age 21 and under based on most of the “discourse” that I see.
I have to get to this point. It’s infuriating
There’s a great post on the Knicks sub by someone who re-visited the entire Linsanity moment and the social media drama surrounding its fallout yesrs after. A whole bunch of proper context from 2012 on, with sources of all statements from players, coaches, etc. No bias on either side, just presenting how the fiasco seemed like nothing personal between either Lin or Melo and not that serious ultimately.
The comments were still divisive and probably 15% of the people commenting actually read it lol. I believe the title of the post itself is “Re-visiting Linsanity”
For me it’s just the disrespect that Melo gets. Lin was great. He could hoop. Linsanity was amazing. But just because you’re a fan of Lin doesn’t mean you have to downplay Melo and his contributions to the Knicks organization or assassinate his character because you like Lin more. Reddit says Melo was selfish and didn’t want to win, but the older fans who watched Melo come in the league in 03 know that’s not the truth. It’s a battle between young fans who just go off what others say vs fans who can tell the difference and respect the art as a whole
Because honestly, Lin Redditors are their own emotional breed lol. Look at how many people on any Melo or Lin related media unpromptedly have to mention that Lin won a ring (riding the bench) in Toronto and Melo is ringless. Just people that need to feel secure that Linsanity won’t get forgotten (it never will be). There’s a comment down a few where a guy commented about how Lin was a 6MOY candidate in Charlotte so he wasn’t some bad player. And it had nothing to do with anything lol, just a guy who wanted to say that to feel great about Jeremy Lin
Lin has an oddly overzealous online fanbase. I know why — but you would think he was an all-nba guard who got bullied by big meanie Melo and never got a shot to flourish.
“Linsanity” was like 10 games! He was pretty mediocre in his last month or so until getting shut down for the season with the meniscus tear. Melo played some of the best ball of his life during that stretch and they predictably lost to the Heat in the playoffs. Lin gets the poison-pill deal from the Rockets and the rest is history. He had a really respectable career! There’s no victims here. I was really upset when he tore his knee on Brooklyn — he looked really solid the year before.
anyway, I don’t think Melo handled the situation well, but it’s not like anyone was treated unfairly. I don’t think there’s a deeply ingrained personal beef like fans wanna believe.
And best of all Lin got a ring with us lol
It’s just how melos career went after the Knicks. Be went to OKC… And he was the problem. Then rockets and they just ignored him and that was when his career ended.
Be went to OKC… And he was the problem
what are you basing this on? they won 50 games and lost in the playoffs because Russ took 27 shots a game on sub 50% TS. He was a decently efficient third option who for the most part just shot threes in the flow of the offense.
It’s always like this. And Jeremy’s fans are some of the worst when it comes to imagined grievances.
He had a great fairytale run during that two month period in NY. But then thereafter it was just storyline after storyline with Houston or Lakers about how coach didn’t use him right, James Harden or Kobe. Instead of just accepting JLin had a good enough career and made some generational life changing family money- it’s beef after beef.
It’s cause Asian hoops fans have never had anyone. Not really. What few abd far between catch fire for like a minute but then just as fast they’re gone. You can ignore it when you have no one but when you have someone and then they are taken away from you all that hurt comes out.
I don’t know why it’s so hard for fans to wrap their head around the idea that they’ve probably held onto this way longer than either of these two.
It’s more so there’s not much to gain on Lin’s side that’s why I’m surprised. But maybe because he’s dabbling more into analyst stuff he’s building exposure 🤷♂️
What if they’re not actually trying to gain anything and it’s just two grown men looking for closure on a period of their lives because they’re adults?
Why would they need closure if they have not held onto anything between them?
In particular there’s just a lot of online conversation about this that means a lot to fans but doesn’t seem to mean a lot to them. I don’t think they’re harboring hard feelings over a disagreement from 14 years ago but a ton of people in this thread still think they do.
Because there’s a lot of noise around the situation and because Linsanity ended so fast with the Knicks not bringing him back.
The closure doesn’t need to brought to you by draft kings and be on a podcast
I think people are playing up Melo’s ego in what happened between Jeremy and the Knicks. Was Melo a superstar who wants to be the center of a franchise? Yes. Did Melo actively push Lin out while the Knicks wanted to keep him? Probably not
I mean I would be surprised if Lin didn’t if they had their private talk. He doesn’t strike me as one who would never forgive or whatever. Not you specifically, but people really be trying to push their parasocial narratives.
Totally OOL.
What is everyone talking about?
The general consensus is that Melo drove Lin out of New York. Obviously not that simple. Lin got minutes initially coz the Knicks were heavily injured (every PG they had was injured at one point - Baron’s knee even exploded).
When he started doing well everyone was hype, even Melo would celebrate big shots with Lin.
The rumour was that D’Antoni wanted to run his faster pace offense through Lin as opposed to through Melo who usually does the triple threats, jab, jab, long 2 etc. eventually D’Antoni was replaced and during the offseason Knicks asked Lin to go get an offer sheet and they’ll match.
So Rockets (Morey) gave him a poison pill contract that would’ve blown out the Knicks cap eventually so they didn’t match it. But the speculation was also that Melo didn’t want him there too.
A few ex Knicks teammates confirmed this too, like Tyson Chandler. And there are many articles about it.
So now Lin is back in NY for the finals, Melo invited him to the pod to clear the air.
–
I prob missed a whole bunch but that’s what I can remember off the top of my head haha.
The rumour was that D’Antoni wanted to run his faster pace offense through Lin
D’Antoni wanted Deron Williams over both Melo and Lin lol.
It was never not wanting Lin. It was wanting Lin with that contract. That’s where the “disgruntled” aspect came from. There’s some level of prejudice that was going on in terms of how much money Lin deserves, because other role players were making less with a better resume but that’s the market (Lin being Asian was an obvious huge marketing draw inflating his market value). Players saw Lin for his skillset, owners saw Lin for his marketability and skillset.
Why? Lin was complementary of Melo before all this. I think people took a disagreement with how Melo approached him and blew it up into more than what it ever actually was.
What’s the story/beef?
Not trying to be a dollar store psychologist, but not a single milisecond of eye-contact when dapping is definitely not a ‘we’re cool bro’ sign 🤣
no eye contact, side hug, fake smile. if jlin did this shit for free he has a humiliation kink
He wanted to show Carmelo his ring….
priceless
They had probably already said a real hello before this. Then they got the cameras rolling.
Yeah this is the clip you get when a producer says “now let’s get a clip for social media”.
The fact this isn’t the default interpretation is just people looking for drama smh
Like maybe there’s no bond but I would not take this clip as proof of this being fake reunion or anything.
i think you’re overestimating average media literacy. i think its just people taking it at face value as this being them meeting lol
This is the most likely scenario, but armchair psychologists are gonna do their thing. And I say this as a Jeremy Lin guy btw.
tbf it does look like there are cameras surrounding them from all sides so maybe he was distracted by that
That’s how I dap up my wife’s friends husbands when we all have to hang out in a “group date” but it’s really just for the wives
So like normal for former coworkers?
It’s not like you are beefing with your wife’s friends’ husbands.
Yeah nothing malicious/hateful we just don’t really rock like that
It’s clear that Lin and Melo aren’t best buds I don’t think anyone had that impression. They’re clearly cordial and have no beef. This shit really is reality tv for men
“Wife’s friend’s husbands” don’t get the dap, but it is still possible to bond over shared trauma.
I said, biiiiiitch…
hilariously accurate
this is just for the cameras/promo, it’s not their real hello.
come on guys, use your brain a little
Yeah, I have some in-laws who I don’t really get along with but have to act cool toward at family events.
This is exactly what we do as an obligatory greeting at every get together before spending the rest of the day apart.
“Hey Melo! So grateful to be on YOUR podcast today surrounded by YOUR hypemen to help clear up YOUR name and image after you showed the entire world that you could not handle a teammate being more successful than you for one second! Much love bro!”
Jeremy is a better man than I.
Lmaoo they probably don’t fuck with each other and who needs them to?
JLin’s look is the same look i have whenever my mom forces me to meet one of her friends’ son or daughter.
Yup, and that no-look dap-hug is from when you got into a slapfight with somebody in grade school and the principal makes you make-up and be friends while they’re standing there.
Did they have that private conversation or was it just a moot point?
If it was private we wouldn’t know about it
I spend like 1 hour/day on the toilet. No, no hemorrhoids yet. That’s private, and now you know about it.
“yet” i believe in you king
I was a “yet”, now I have a special pad.
Just really emphasizes the point that private things can stay private
I’m happy for you bro
lin already said they had a private talk lol
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25435849-jeremy-lin-opens-about-carmelo-anthony-beef-end-knicks-tenure-and-more-video
I think JLin mentioned on the torre podcast they did
jeremy lin said on the pablo torre podcast theyve now had a private conversation about the situation
I mean I’d hope they talked before recording since that was what Lin was asking right
Lin said so on Pablo Torre
As someone who doesn’t hate either of these dudes the comments on the clips to come out of this will be insane lmao.
Right? If they had a private conversation and worked things out, we should leave it at that instead of adding unnecessary drama.
But how will I get internet points and validation from strangers, if I can’t even complain about two people I don’t know?
By complaining about the strangers you don’t know instead apparently
Lin could say Melo was a great teammate and his haters will still never let it go, and Melo fans will keep defending him lol.
It’ll probably never end fr
Lin did say Melo was a great teammate to him multiple times lol
You’re absolutely right, I completely forgot because the Melo haters say otherwise lol
Yea he said a few times Melo was generally nice to him but can’t speak on what his private feelings are lol.
I’m willing to bet that’s what JLin wanted to speak about cause he never said anything bad about Melo as a teammate like he did on Harden and Kobe.
Which is the other thing that is crazy to me about this. Lin has publicly criticized Harden and Kobe. He criticized Kobe after his death. He went back and forth with Kenyon Martin on social media. He’s done documentaries where they include clips of players being disrespectful to him. But for some reason he’s too “classy” to speak about Melo?
It’s insane now you have arm chair psychiatrists analyzing a small clip and using it to determine some disdain that may have never existed but they will continue it for no good reason.
Bruh just look at the comments in this thread. These people need help
“Melo sucked the Linsanity dick”
These people need help bruh 😭
At least I haven’t seen anyone calling Melo racist again yet
Give it 30 minutes or actually lemme check the hidden comments lol
https://reddit.com/comments/1u1yd89/comment/oquqikc?context=3
Found one 💀
There are already a bunch of “I can tell from this 2 second clip that they actually hate each other”
Melo still salty can’t even crack a smile
Looking like he doesn’t want to be there when his team 100% were the ones to push it.
I don’t even feel the need to watch this pod since it would be Jeremy talking candidly and Melo tying to save face.
it would be Jeremy talking candidly and Melo tying to save face.
I would watch that because it would be a quiet admission from Melo that he was an ass in that situation (not that he’s changed).
he might just be high and trying to hide it lol
The body language says it all. Carmelo stills seems bitter. Side dap no eye contact oof lol.
Well yeah, Lin is even a more fondly remembered knick than Melo these days
What’s the tldr between melo and lin?
Lin was willing to take much less than what he got from Houston to sign back with NYC but the Knicks didn’t extend him any offer. Rumor has it melo was jealous of the shine linsanity was getting and played a role in pushing Lin out of NYC.
Some other Knicks players from that team have confirmed this theory.
Lin’s response to these rumors, and other rumors about who did and didn’t want him back in NYC, is that he doesn’t really know. That he was kept in the dark when it was going down. He says He’s still learning new things about the behind the scenes during his time there from other sources and even from watching these player pods. He says he remembers some strange convos he had with NY front office members during that time that he’s still trying to use to piece together the full picture of what exactly went down, and that he just wishes he had closure for that portion of his life.
Years later, Melo has a podcast and invites Lin to tell the linsanity story on the pod and clear the air about these jealousy rumors.
Lin does not address the invite for months, doing other pods like Dwight’s but not Melos.
Lin was very recently asked about Melos invite to do his pod during an interview. Lin said he wanted to talk to Carmelo privately first before he went on his podcast to have that conversation publicly.
Looks like that private convo between Lin and melo happened, the air was presumably cleared, and the pod is coming soon
Looks like two people that don’t like each other
Nobody believes Melo so yeah there’s no reason to like each other
Parasocial: The Thread
People here are real weirdos (to be nice) that don’t understand basketball, much less human interaction.
I swear some of these people have never resolved a conflict in their lives
This subs hate boner for Melo is remarkable. They’re grown men who decided to get together. They dapped up for a camera to show it, it wasn’t their initial interaction. Lot of you need to grow up
It’s also wild how people act like Jeremy Lin is a scared little boy getting cornered or something. Dude is a 37 year old man and is very outspoken, even directly challenging Kobe and being open about his issues with him. If he had a problem with any of this he wouldn’t be scared to say.
People talk about Melo here like he did what Kobe actually did to Jeremy Lin
Weirdos man
Just come here to see any news. Actual discussion about basketball is not going to happen here. As a Sixer fan, I’m sure you see it with any post about Joel.
Reminder: Lin has had no problems speaking up regarding bad treatment he’s gotten in the nba. He even spoke up about Kobe.
He’s never had a negative thing to say about Carmelo
that’s cuz Kobe was man enough to talk his shit to Jeremy’s face. Melo did all his work behind the scenes, and Jlin is above the drama of going around digging around in the “he said, she said” and publicly addressing things that he doesn’t know as verifiable fact. But based on everything you hear from other players who were on the team at the time, it sounds like Melo put his thumb on the scale and played a role in stopping Linsanity from returning to the Knicks.
they both look like they don’t want to be there lol they must be getting paid
Melo and Dwight Howard are victims of their social media narratives as much as the real narrative of what they did. But because most nephews know of them only via reddit comments, the state of the sub is what it is. It’s why the 2000s Spurs get so much glaze as well…Man even if Carmelo spent the rest of his life being the second coming of Warrick Dunn this sub will spend all its hater energy on him at every given opportunity.
This is good. Lin is one of the best people to come out of the NBA and Melo is an all time great.
How is Melo in better shape now than when he was a player?
Dude…he always wore padding. He LOOKED like he wasn’t in shape. Whenever you saw him without padding, he looked rip and slim and buff
Like they said, Melo just wore a lot of padding because of all the contact he took. His conditioning was a big part of what made him so good in the 4th.
Mfs wanted them to kiss on here lol
Redditors fuming
That’s NBA Champion Jeremy Lin.
Gahdamn some of you need deep therapy
Say what you will out of all NBA podcasts which are usually terrible, Melo’s is actually incredibly entertaining
The podcast is actually pretty interesting, but the people here who have some parasocial hatred of the man want to get their tired jokes and narratives off.
Jeff Teague’s is the best based solely on the fact that I have never seen a bad clip from it
NBA Champion and Carmelo Anthony
Damn man Melo’s salty ass can’t stand Lin, can’t even look him eye to eye.
All these conspiracy theories instead of just accepting that maybe they just don’t have beef sums up Lin cultists pretty well icl.
Here comes the weird parasocial discourse that this subreddit has on the particular topic.
A lot of sanctimonious, vaguely racist redditors are punching the air right now
Nah, they’re still posting in here, acting as if Lin is being held hostage.
Most awkward reunion lmao
Melo high out of his mind wearing sun glasses inside: “Yea, people dont understand the full context man”
Vomit content
Two Rockets legends
Melo is a douche bag.
lol this sub’s Spider-Man vs Green Goblin
Redditors 9⁄11
Legend word is used for any former player nowadays
What’s the context? Why they are awkward? Did they fight a lot during the Linsanity run?
I feel like this pod episode will be regurgitating everything we knew publicly. They’re not going to get to the bottom of anything.
Oh no! How will Reddit push their narratives now!?
I’m so tired of hearing about this.
Carmelo looks annoyed lol
Yeah, that side dap or whatever just shows everything not cool lol
The dab felt off
NBA Champ Jeremy Lin.
When me and the dude at LA Fitness that fouls everyone “make nice”
Awkward af
Melo won’t even look at him
The number of kids in here stressed over “body language” lol. Even Skip Bayless would shake his head at some of yall
Do they got beef or something?? Lol why was their reunion hyped up
Lot of talk about how Carmelo was jealous of the Linsanity attention. Think a lot of it was based on people’s assumptions and Carmelo’s reputation than any hard facts about it.
Carmelo still coming off as sour. Trying to rehabilitate his PR now that he is both forgotten in Denver and NY, but real ones remember. Empty calories player
Pic says it all. You can’t hide discomfort
Lin, the best ever raptors bench warmer
So there was a private talk?
Melo still looks hurt
That looks a little forced…
Melo doing this for the views
Hopefully, this sub will stop crying about Melo 24⁄7 now😂
They’re still crying about him on this thread.
Never understood why Melo triggers this sub so easily lol
Isolation scorers are treated as mass murderers here.
I’m sure the comments will be civil
Are they gonna kiss
Should be titled: Knicks legend Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony
I always thought Lin was a legit 6’3”
Goes not
Jeremy Lin is such a good dude.
Two people who are NOT cool with each other but are putting on a front for the cameras.
Views will be crazy on this one. Also J Lin’s body language looks uncomfortable in this lol
on the pod??? y tho
This looks fake as fuck 🤣
What was the beef to begin with? I’ve heard some narratives but am curious if anyone can confirm
Melos chicken Legs are crazy
Yall are weird
My two GOATs! If only they had Ron Baker and Frank Ntilikina on, could’ve had the whole 2010’s Knicks Mount Rushmore.
Melo such a bum dude. So fragile.
At first, I thought they had legit beef, but it really just seemed like they had conflicting basketball playstyles.
But, I’ll add this: Obviously I don’t know Melo, but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he personally didn’t want Lin to be the “King of NY” over him. Idk if Melo was jealous of the attention, but he came to NY due to it being a big market and for marketability reasons, and in his mind i feel like he intended on being the most popular player in NY.
But at the same time, I’m 100% sure that they got along and were cool with each other. Nothing personal.
Blazers legend Carmelo Anthony
Jermey Lin is a Knicks legend?
Hope Lin’s wearing Kevlar under that tshirt.
I love this 2 knicks legends I’m their own right squashing beef
Fuck Melo. Gave us 1 good year. Waste of money.
Melo will never get over Jeremy Lin being the more iconic Knick
I honestly thought Carmelo was going to refuse to have a private convo with Lin and the podcast appearance never happens. Mostly because I felt Carmelo only did it for PR and doesn’t care about him.
But I guess he did take the time to do it.
