The only possibility of something happening after is 3 point shooting landing space. We saw Jalen with one of the miniscule landing space area flagrant 1s. If they call it consistently like that then there is a world where if Wemby closes out and is in the landing area and its reviewed or even challenged then it could possibly be upgraded.

Refs (and most of the crowd) were looking at KAT/Johnson fighting. Thats is why the crowd didn’t go completely ballistic.

For the record, Johnson was called for the foul shortly after… so in a sense, the play still ended with a foul 3 seconds later. Although I agree it should have been a Flagrant 1 on Wemby.

I am a Knicks fan, but I think they probably saw the aftermath of Brunson falling and didn’t see the initial contact considering it was away from the ball. I honestly don’t want the refs calling shit they don’t see, so I’m okay with that. I do think the league should consider a retroactive flagrant though.

The amount of times wemby is shoves guys around is nothing compared to the amount he’s fouled. If the refs don’t call the arm holds, the jersey grabs, shoving him when he tries to establish position, they’re not going to call when Wemby retaliates.

To describe the Kornet play as “merely incidental contact” is an interesting choice. Rewatch the play, Hart ran to grab the ball after a made basket, for no reason in particular, cutting off Kornet and then kicking/pushing him off poor perception. I don’t think any neutral fan watching that game would arrive at your conclusion. Reffing is always going to favor the more physical of the two teams with respect to driving % and % of shots taken at rim in traffic. FTs taken will always favor teams that are better in this metric and when there is a discrepancy, you can almost always correlate it with these numbers, which heavily favor the spurs. The free throws shouldn’t always be equal, especially when one teams shoots more frequently outside of the pain than the other. Food for thought to encourage a more data driven approach rather than “my feels”.

I actually don’t think the reffing is biased in their favor, so much as refs are just incompetent. There’s also something about physical teams (it’s an even bigger issue in college) where I feel like refs are just afraid to actually call fouls correctly because they’ll call one on almost every play, so they just have a different standard for those teams.
