Shaq supports Wemby shoving Jalen Brunson: “Get your little ass off me. Keep doing it Wemby. Tell Brunson get your little ass out the way. That ain’t no dirty play.”

Somehow we’re talking about the same woman
Bang your teammate’s wife, break up two marriages, and fuck up a championship run - Tony Parker
Fun fact, who was on the team when the reports of teammate sleeping with Moms and Wives came our in Phoenix & Cleveland. Hint: he poops in buckets and pours it on rookies and was getting grief for nor helping those teams in the playoffs; around the time those rumors came out; the same dude who lied on David Robinson. If you guessed: the Poop Monster, you’d be correct. Shaq started those rumors and is a henious PoS.
‘Start collecting your dumps in a bucket and give him a nice ol’ surprise after the finals is over’
You forgot to add ‘big fella’
I’m screaming lmaoo
KAT and Johnson are also in an intense scrap just a few feet away
Everyone was staring at them, that’s why no one saw what Wemby did
Fr my attention was on those two battling each other. I didn’t even notice what happened with Brunson.
everyone lookin like an idiot with the “i din do nuffin” hands up bullshit lmao
wemby needs some sage advice from curry on how to better deal with the frustrations because he’s been dealing with getting hugged a lot as it’s the only way teams could slightly contain him and this will probably be the same thing for wemby
wemby’s frustrations are understandable, but he can’t be stupid losing his shit throwing elbows. just look at how the wolves further egged on him after that incident like wemby’s bo cruz
Bro why was KAT tangling up with everyone every play.
It looked so corny lol.
If you hold someone on defense, they can’t execute their plays and you have less distance to cover defensively as the offensive player is being forced to stand still. Tactically, it’s an advantage if the other team is not expecting it. At this point, I’m expecting their to be some plays set up to counter this or there already are that I’m not good enough to see.
It’s also just a whole foul
It seems like kat really likes to hook arms
Yeah that’s what distracts me in this clip more than anything, it honestly looks like when two hockey teams all drop their gloves so there’s 5 1v1s going on😭
Everybody wants physical playoff basketball until physical playoff basketball happens.
That ends with an attempt at a satellite DDT
You gotta let those little munchkins know
That was funny ngl. There is truth in there because if you’re smaller you can basically maul centers without hearing a whistle
It’s why Caruso gets away with so much when guarding bigger guys
He fouled Jokic most possessions when he guarded him and forced turnovers last year
That’s exactly why Wemby was pissed on this play and the one last game with Alvarado. They throw their body into him shoulder first, grab his jersey, and hook his arms constantly. Nothing gets called so Vic says, fuck it I guess it’s Bill Laimbeer Combat Basketball then
I’m not saying it’s right and I would have been ok with Wemby getting called. But I understand why he did it and they should absolutely be calling the other shit too
The spurs #1 target this offseason needs to be Bobby portis
He funnily fits basketball wise too …
Can space the floor, bang down low, grab rebounds
Shii with Giannis gone they have no use for him.
Bill Laimbeer Combat Basketball
Elite ball knowledge
Unc status never in question
And when he just raises his arm he can elbow them in the head. It is fucking bullshit. It is like sticking your head in-between fan blades then getting pissed when someone turns the fan on because you said you were hot. They protect small players way too much for all the dumb situations they put themselves in.
Seriously. If they allowed centers to play with the force hat guards use against them, NBA media would be clutching their pearls. But eventually there’s a tipping point, Kareem punched people, Jokic tried to kill a morris, shaq got called dirty. Big guys aren’t jungle gyms and occasionally they’re gonna get fed up
Jokic pushed Morris after that bitch pushed him and then turned his back like he was sly. It’s not his fault the little idiot’s neck was already a pez dispenser.
Yeah Morris deserved every bit of that when he turned his back
Straight up. Centers need to do this more because guards have been taking advantage of the rules.
That’s why I feel like while that play is excessive and deserves a flagrant, it’s simply an excessive retaliation against all the holding he deals with during every screen and rebound
Caruso basically defended Jokic last year by permanent fouling and getting away with it because well he‘s smaller. Jokic should pushed his shit in just once and OKC likely would’ve lost the series. Or hell, they should’ve just subbed in DeAndre Jordan to elbow that dickhead once or twice.
The best part was ignoring the chihuahua as he was barking
When karl Malone blasted Isaiah Thomas he thought 2x about going to the rim for the rest of his career. As he should.
If they allow little guys to hack big men they should allow the big fellas to do some of this every now and then.
All time quote
Little munchkins = 6’2” 😂
Shaq isn’t the dude to take advise for how to treat people
Lots of people were like “what’s Wemby doing shooting jumpers at 7’5? He should be more like Shaq!” Well, he sorta listened I guess lol
Now time to start shitting in his teammates lockers !!!
I’ve seen some nasty shit in locker rooms but nothing to do with shitting, dudes be nasty asf
I guess that can only happen when you’re someone like Shaq who’s just a freak athlete, a massive guy, intimidating as hell, and has grown up being told how awesome they are and being treated like a god just because of sports. It makes sense how people can get this type of self image and feeling like they’re a god and can do anything they want, but it’s obviously still super fucked up
He definitely is the guy to listen to on how to deal with being fouled as a big every single play.
Bro. Keldeon is actually fouling Kat in this clip.
What is Brunson doing
Where KAT is just flopping on minimal contact? Brunson literally elbowed Wemby right before this clip starts and is holding his jersey.
Lmao. He’s literally pushing Kat like a Weighted sled
KAT outweighs Johnson by at least 60 pounds. Why is Kat flailing back like he just got hit by a train?
This isn’t how physics works
This is a spurs circlejerk in here. Everyone acting like Keldon Johnson is some puny little guy when he is built like a brick shit house throwing his entire weight into KAT. Ridiculous lol
Straight 2 hand shoves. Not even defense. It’s wrastling.
You don’t have that same energy when KAT gets fouled
But he is the dude to take advice for how to win a championship.
Yeah: win the genetic lottery and be bigger than anyone else
Wemby is 3⁄4 of the way there
So perfect guy to give advice to wemby then?
I mean. If anyone fits that mould. It’s wemby no?
yeah that’s called basketball
No no, clearly all 500 players other than Wemby are just Joe schmos
Shaq threatening to throw some elbows during the playoffs against the Jazz and then hear Jerry Sloan go ballistic is some core memory type shit
I was anticipating the broadcast to pull up some footage of Shaq abusing opposing players
Every one of these players knows about the Pistons’ “Jordan Rules.” For better or worse, no superstar is going to let themselves get bullied like that again.
David Stern punished Nash and the Sun’s when they stood up for Nash
Post mallice they were dumb strict bout that no leaving the bench rule. Stern fucked em just to make an example
It was a dirty play, but as a taller guy (obv not as tall as Wemby) when I play basketball it sucks. You get grabbed and pushed and fouled a lot, but because you are tall refs can’t call everything. It can be very frustrating.
Skilled bigs always get this treatment. Shaq, Jokic, giannis, wemby. But fighting back always looks bad because you’re huge. Wemby is like 50+ pounds lighter than those other guys though, so idk.
Even watch a more mid-tier center like Zubac. He gets pulled, punched, jumped-on, pushed, and very little respect from refs because “he can handle it” and doesn’t flop.
My king Zubac is low high-tier and he will be respected as such!
Kareem Abdul Jabbar straight up clocked a guy in the face for the same reason.
Its on the refs, the league decides exactly how much physicality they want to allow every night. Eventually uncalled fouls lead to frustration and someone takes it too far. Its simple cause and effect and the league treats it that way.
Giannis get 5 guys on him it’s insane low-key
KAT’s in the bottom left corner getting this treatment lol
I don’t see how this is “dirty.” Brunson is holding Wembys jersey with his left hand. This is the equivalent of trying to bully someone and they crying when you get bullied back.
it’s not dirty and it’s really just fucking nothing, at most to me this is a common foul in the playoffs
it turns out this sub did not, in fact, want to go back to 80s style physicality (for some reason fans seem to love it when their team plays physical basketball, but of course other teams aren’t allowed to)
I think it’s prolly at least a tech, but he got elbowed twice with no call literally 10 seconds before this clip so they just weren’t calling anything
Not only that but if you look closely Wemby’s entire left arm is being hooked and held by Brunson.
It’s just that he pushed his head. That immediately makes it worse. Still not crazy dirty or anything though
Brunson is a midget compared to him and has a XXL sized head. It would be hard for Wemby to interact with him without pushing his head.
Even as an average height guy, there’s always some little dude at pickup grabbing at you all game. I’ve wanted to do this plenty of times
It’s not dirty, there was no chance Brunson gets hurt there. What is dirty is the grabbing of Wemby’s arms as he jumps for rebounds and blocks. There is a significant chance of injury to the shoulder and arm every time that happens which is almost every play and that rarely gets called.
Wemby needs to be a little smarter about it though. His size and length over exaggerates his movement and can make normal things look worse than they are. He shouldn’t play into it. A few of his “dirty” moves in the finals might be justifiable, but him throwing an elbow or shoving a guy looks a lot more flagrant than someone else.
It’s not a dirty play but it’s a flagrant still and should have been called
Wemby gets grabbed 24⁄7 and people just try to restrict his arms all the time because that’s his best asset, KAT was literally not looking at the ball grabbing his arms 24⁄7
It was a flagrant you call that and you move you
It’s worth noting this was the first time they crossed paths after this play which people probably didn’t notice Brunson throwing an elbow on. And then he grabs his jersey here, just being a bit of a nuisance….i support the chippiness back
Lol yeah Wemby took two elbows to the mid section on that play. Don’t blame him
Not a single knicks fan is going to read this
To busy stalking people to gang jump in rival jerseys outside MSG.
They’re all still stuck on picture books so how could they?
Very few things sillier than midwesterners recycling jokes about midwesterners
Yep, and everyone knows it, this is why he laugh at the Brunson reaction.
Tik tok smooth brains are trying to make this play something that is not.
100% justified. Let that little man know who’s boss.
Yeah those two plays are not comparable in the slightest lmao
Wemby defenders always do this shit. Same as the twolves series.
“Oh they were being physical so it’s totally fine he elbowed a dude in the fucking neck”
“Oh he got chipped on the way past Brunson its totally fine to shove a dude in the back of the head”
Responding to physical basketball plays with non-basketball shit like this has never been acceptable but because it’s wemby for some reason it’s fine.
If someone like Dort did this the entire sub would be calling for his summary execution
Is it a basketball move to hold a guys arms as he goes for a rebound? Elbow him as he is catching a lob? Drag his shoulder? Jersey?
Only difference is Brunson is selling and Wemby just deals with it
Knicks fans have overwhelmed this subreddit, do people think Wemby just got bored and decided to pull that shit?
I think they do, or they are giddy for the chance to label him as dirty.
It’s also salty Thunder fans who chime in every time a negative Spurs topic comes up.
Damn, and to do all that drama after the game. Do these players have no shame.
Please don’t @ me for dray. I’m very well aware
- The jersey grab is nothing, they were stationary and people have done that all playoffs with no call unless they legitimately held them back from getting to a spot, and he was grabbing Jalen’s jersey at the same time
- That elbow from Jalen wasn’t nothing but I’ve seen much worse moving screens go uncalled
- Regardless, that should have been a flagrant on Wemby, it was dangerous and the NBA doesn’t give you extra leeway to do stuff like that in retaliation
Yep I seen Wemby grabbing back of jerseys to hold other bigs down when he goes up to catch a lob. They all grabbing them.
This needs its own post
“I support the chippiness back”
It’s how it should be, playoff basketball.
Idk, that elbow from brunson looked really light. Not like he got mauled on that play. Idk if it’s something you throw someone’s head over.
If shoving a dude in the head is not dirty, what is?
i mean dudes got a huge head where else wemby supposed to push him
Things that are actually dangerous
Dirty plays are more covert and being disguised as accidental and are more linked to season ending injuries This is wemby stand on business and fighting people who are grabbing and holding on to him which also isn’t legal. No call for holding him, no call for retaliation. Plus this is just jb selling ain’t no way wemby that much strong than him to go from putting all your weight on that man to being a rag doll
Brunson is a tank until he decides he’s not.
First thing I noticed too, that other people are intentionally forgetting about.
I don’t care what kind of leverage Wemby has, if Brunson didn’t want to get pushed over, he ain’t getting pushed over. Dude is one of the most sturdy players in the game.
Hooking a guys arm to restrict his movement and then selling a “foul” when the guy moves his arm aggressively to get it free.
“Moves his arm aggressively” when he puts his hand on the back of his neck and shoves him is insane cope lmao
Shoving a dude away as he’s clamping your arm to prevent you playing defense isn’t dirty
And not only shoving him in the head, but shoving him downward with full extension on those long ass arms. This wasn’t Brunson getting in Wemby’s space and taking an inadvertent elbow, he made a conscious move to put him into the court.
throwing an elbow to the midsection of a player running by
Seeing what Mitch got T’d up for in game 2 it’s absolutely insane this isn’t a foul at all
I am fine with this being a flagrant if the elbows from the previous play are called appropriately or the hold on this play. The refs have to rein it in before this.
yeah, we have been BEGGING Wemby to be more aggressive and stand up for himself because of how much fouling he had/has been taking, especially after his concussion. He still rarely really responds aggressively but unfortunately when he does he definitely takes a ton of shit for it.
They will show a tiny clip over and over and over, without any of the leadup or the previous fouling on him for reference.
[deleted]
People will say Spurs need an enforcer and then cry when Byombo gets a clean block on McCain. You can’t win
“We want physical basketball, Adam Silver!”
“Wtf is this physical basketball?!”
“MORE aggressive” “rarely responds” okay lmao wow
Edit: Also referencing the concussion as if he didnt do it to himself when he fell for a chair pull lol
Stand up for himself against the smallest dude on the other team who hasn’t been covering him at all? Ok.
Brunson was grabbing and fouling him - that’s been the strategy for handling Victor’s defense. Grab him so he can’t rotate on PnR.
Refs didn’t call it.
You complain about the retaliation but ignore the instigation.
As a big man you have to decide early on if you are cool being disliked and I think Wemby is. If you are holding him and fouling him all game he is going to try and fuck you up. It is what it is.
It also forces the refs to act imo. If you set early on the tone that you’re a hothead and will retaliate strongly, guards won’t be as hands on and refs will know they need to call the fouls because if they don’t you’re willing to get the technical and bring attention to the issue.
If you let them get away with it you turn into Jokic where you get fouled every single play and the refs do nothing.
Yeah people will say “just deal with it”…..no. You are going to call some of this holding on me so they stop or this game is going to devolve into some nonsense where now you as the ref are getting calls from your boss asking what the hell is going on.
I mean, that is dealing with it. Actually dealing with it and not just letting it slide.
I mean Jokic laid a motherfucker out for a whole season and still gets fouled a lot lol
He’s finally playing as a big yeah he’s playing rough for this era but back in the 90s and early 00s it would have been acceptable.
People are mainly upset that he’s finally using his size
My goat ain’t playin around. He setting the tone early in his career fuckin love it
Draymond probably thinking that wemby didn’t go far enough
Draymond would probably also choke him out if he did it against the warriors.
W Draymond
rudy gobert had it coming
When he did it I thought “that’s just regular big man nastiness”
He def should’ve got called for at least a fouls lol
Wemby only reacted this way because JB was holding his jersey and preventing him from moving. If you look closely you can see it. Its just hard to see because JB is covering it.
I know Wemby is hard to defend but how the league has just systematically allowed opposing teams to just hold him off ball and grab his arms when he goes for lobs or rebounds is pretty insane.
Spurs basically stopped throwing lob passes in the OKC series because it became too dangerous not because OKC was defending it well.
This game he finished a lob while a Knicks player was holding onto his other arm.. and no call
St. Wemby is never dirty, he only reacts to evil acts of fouling him or holding his jersey by elbowing necks and shoving players heads. It’s a blasphemy to say otherwise and you will be downvoted by the glazehorde!
Sorry but I don’t think a jersey hold justifies that reaction, do you see how often Brunson jersey gets pulled ? I don’t see him reacting back that way
Ah yeah I see it now
I appreciate the support Shaq, but that was dirty lmao
He has partially softened his image with all his post play endorsements, but prime Shaq would have boxed other players hockey style if he could lmao
Shaq was also getting mauled by people and they called no fouls because he was strong, any time Shaq got to truly post up if they actually let him he’d have a 80% FG straight face
Teams used get 7 foot 280 dudes just for him
Meh. I’m old enough to have watched Shaq when he was playing. He hammered opposing players constantly, and not only as a response to them fouling him. He started handing out punishment from the opening whistle. It’s a bit chicken-and-egg to debate who was responsible for violent physical play on or around Shaq.
Shaq did get super physical and did have some very insane charges bumping people but in grand scheme of thing he was way stronger and was not allowed to play his game with people being so physical with him and constantly hacking him
The only fouls called on him were obvious wrap ups going up
Shaq was a game breaking player if you called everything it would not be watchable either
Idk, its 100% a frustration foul that you dont want if youre the spurs. But its really not dirty. To me dirty has to have an intent to injure. Throwing that elbow against the Twolves was dirty AF. This? Nah its exactly what the knicks want
1000%. People always talk about how they want guys with this mentality but when something like this happens they clutch their pearls lol.
Im actually fine with the face of the league being an asshole, kinda like KG, if his fans actually embrace it instead of pretending he’s some high intelligence saint who plays “ethical” ball
Depends on what you mean by ethical. To me, when people talk about ethical hoops it’s about foul baiting. He’s one of the lesser foul baiting stars.
But yes, he can be a little mean out there (which to me is a good thing).
I don’t think Draymond foul baits on offense. I would never describe him as ethical
Wemby is not one of the “lesser foul baiting stars”
This subreddit does not understand the concept of ethical
Wemby was strictly referencing ethical in terms that he isn’t as much of a foul baiter as the Thunder
This comment is just so wrong.
Wemby wasn’t talking about “ethical” the same way social media was talking about “ethical.” And he also clearly is as much of “foul baiter as the Thunder”, but that logic is just beyond stupid anyways. “Wemby foul baits and flops a ton but it’s not as much as OKC so he’s ethical” lmao
He said that ethical quote about 7 months ago in the regular season
Dude went through his first playoff run and realized that the playoffs are different and had to play dirty with the rest of them
I’ve never seen anyone say they want bigs to react to defense from small guards by shoving their heads?
People say they want physical basketball; this was not a basketball play.
This series will get out of hand at one point if the refs don’t get it under control they are letting too much of this fly both ways.
Agree, this and the OKC series has been googling to see if hand checking and shit was back on the table. Looks like a damn football game at time. I get it’s the playoffs, but it creates some situations where they then start calling things randomly.
It’s crazy how much the NBA has pushed physicality the last 2 years. Go watch the Cavs/Warriors game 7 from 2017, the off the ball holding, grabbing and wrestling on rebounds is basically non-existent compared to now.
I don’t know when or why the NBA decided to end pace and space and bring back dead ball era physicality.
In the regular season this is a flagrant. In the playoffs where guys are pushing and shoving all the time fighting for position, this should be called just a foul. No call is crazy though
It was no call because the scrap with KAT and KJ was happening and got called for a foul first.
The KAT/KJ scrum wasn’t called first. They didn’t call it til later when KAT got deeper position. And it’s probably only because - as seen on replay - Spike Lee is pointing it out and yelling in the refs ear.
EDIT: Wemby/Brunson incident is with 4:44 left on the clock. KJ gets whistled at 4:35.
I generally agree with Shaq.
Also hilarious watching Draymond cracking up. And I’m not a big Draymond commentary fan.
“Get your little ass out of the way.”
Also….Keldon Johnson and KAT doing MMA.
Maybe I’m old school and watched tons of playoff series through the decades but, this is just playoff basketball to me. Yeah it’s a foul. Just heated. In this HD era, you can watch anyone off the ball in any 60 seconds stretch and this shit is going on constantly.
Man, the amount of grabbing and holding they’re doing on Wemby I would be shoving everyone.
Yeah is he overreacting on these high profile ones, absolutely, is it completely unprompted like Dray or Dort, hell fucking no. Like this is a response to Brunson throwing an elbow at Wemby on a “screen” instead of playing basketball, so a proportional response would be to elbow him back, unfortunately that would be another Naz situation so I guess Wemby should just take it?
This is dead on. This is an overreaction but not dangerous. He at least learned his lesson from the Naz situation. As a Wolves fan, I would’ve been fine with just a common foul for this push.
Honestly I can see how someone like shaq, who dominated the game physically and has seen the big mans role in the modern NBA diminished, would react this way… I’m all for more physicality, especially in the playoffs, but you have to call this a foul or risk escalation in the game and series as a whole.
Definitely a foul, dude tried to hold him back to prevent a switch on defense
Does anyone have the full play? I’ve seen plenty of times when wemby cuts through lane a Knicks player gets a good shoulder into him (which is normal), wonder if Brunson did same thing.
Bruson got a couple good elbows into his gut on alley oops before this. Also on this play Bruson has his right arm clamping Wemby’s lwft wrist to his body. If Wemby was called here and the Spurs challenged it would have been overturned for a proximate foul on Brunson.
Also has a fist full of Wemby’s jersey. Wemby gets grabbed all game long and he retaliates, which he shouldn’t do; but I understand his frustration.
Wemby got fouled roughly 85 times last night if we want to go by the books like Knicks fans are pining for.
Ill start feeling bad when he sets a single screen where he isnt reaching out in front of him and setting the screens by pushing the guy he’s screening.
Hes just a tough guy to officiate apparently, from goaltending to this stuff.
Brunson had one arm grabbing his jersey, and it was clear he was going for an attempt to lock up wembys other arm. Wemby had every right to shove him off. If refs wont call it, gotta make them stop yourself.
He’s grabbing his jersey (holding). Over a period of time I’m sure he’s frustrated, which is probably the intent. They either get away with the holding/draw a foul/frustrate him.
The crazy thing about frustration fouls is that they’re actually still fouls.
Yeah just like the holding that leads up to them. This shit happens
Brunson has been getting his jersey yanked so clear you see it on the live broadcast (Harper IIRC in first quarter of Game 1 comes to mind) and he never tried to cheap shot anyone.
Wemby has a rap sheet of this stuff going back to Naz Reid obviously, but yanking Dort last series, this with JB, and the same dust up with Alvarado last game.
Look closely again. Wemby’s entire left arm is being hooked and held by Brunson. Just looks like it’s Brunson’s arm because of the length of his arm.
Wemby not even Brunson’s man so Brunson tried to grab his jersey which is a foul so Wemby shoved him away which was a foul. I don’t see an issue here is Wemby supposed to squat down so he shoves Brunson lower? 😂😅
Normally not on Shaq’s side but gotta agree that Chuck is completely hypocritical here. Regardless of whether you think it should’ve been called or not you can’t complain about how the modern game is “soft” and then cry that a shove is over the line
It was a foul. Let’s move on.
It’s dirty but that’s the toughness every has been crying about missing for the last 15 years. Shaq would’ve done that, Kareem would’ve done that, Wilt would’ve done that, Hakeem would’ve done that…
Barkley would have for sure done it too.
I agree with Shaq. Everyone talks about wanting 90s basketball back until dudes start getting physical
That’s all well and good but then keep that consistent throughout the game. Don’t complain if KAT locks arms with Wemby.
I know Knick‘s fans will be like “ Wemby is such a dirty player “ and don’t get me wrong pushing him down not your best move. But you watch between Towns, Brunson, and all of them whenever he is near them they’re constantly grabbing his arms trying to pin his hands down, trying to hold him down at some point he has to defend himself and if that means pushing you off of him then that’s what it is munchkin.
100 % agree , Brunson was holding onto him and wemby just said get the fuck off me
Underrated component, Brunson is just performing a walking screen here. Wendy should have been whistled for a tech or Flagrant 1, but Brunson is sneaky fouling him prior, and getting away with it because he’s small.
Knicks have been physical as hell with Wemby since the series started. OKC was the same
Wemby just doing what he needs to in order to be successful against those tactics
Like pushing his neck? Like putting Alvarado in a headlock? Riiiiiiiight…….
It’s a foul. It’s crazy that people think that’s a flagrant. He is pushing away a player trying to back him down.
Lmao why is it crazy people think it’s a flagrant? It’s not a basketball play, and it’s unnecessary and excessive contact. You can think it’s not dirty, but it is not a basketball play to push someone’s neck down with intent
NBA should look into how they allow smaller players to guard bigs. That was a foul on Wemby, but a LOT was going on prior to it.
And not just saying this as a Spurs fan as it impacts other bigs like KAT, Joker, etc. Still think its insane what Caruso was allowed ro do against Joker last season
Still think its insane what Caruso was allowed ro do against Joker last season
Look at Joker’s arms after any game it’s insane. Giannis gets raked across the arms constantly as well.
Brunson’s embellishment makes this look worse than it is.
Dozens of shoves like this in a game.
Brunson plays these things up a lot because he’s smol
