Gimenez drives in the tying run in an inning that began 4-0
As someone who almost never blames the umps lol, what an insane hose job. Never seen anything quite like it
Umps don’t deserve rights
Post the clip of the inning-ending double-play non-call. This game should be 4-1. Ridiculous.
The rule is pretty lenient towards the base runner. 3 feet from where when the tag is attempted is a decent zag if he’s already on a wide route.
I get that, but Blue Jays Nation seems to have decided that Henderson didn’t attempt a tag. Which I think he did—he just couldn’t be dramatic about it lest he lose the chance at the out at first (thus saving a run).
If we’re gonna be this hidebound about the rulebook in this case, does it define a tag attempt? (Serious question, I don’t know the answer to this.)
I’ll give him credit for the tag attempt but I think if you measure 3 feet from where Ernie is at that moment he is within an allowed deviation. It just looks egregious because he’s already wide and takes another obvious zag.
Three feet is like half of the average male wingspan… Which I note just to suggest it might be less lenient than you’re thinking.
You mean where he air humps a meter from the runner then throws to first, you can’t Bluetooth a tag
Define a tag attempt according to the rulebook, then.
As defined by the ump, the ump said he didn’t go he didn’t go
You can’t cite the umpire’s decision in an argument questioning the rightness of that decision.
I’m asking, since this argument hinges on whether a tag attempt was made—and since we’re going by the rulebook in all other facets of this argument—what the rulebook says.
The rule book says specifically that what qualifys as a tag attempt is up to the ump I didn’t write the rulebook thats just what it says the ump didn’t agree that air humping a meter out qualified
Ah, okay. So I guess we’re at an impasse, then.
Funny that you keep referring to a distance of a meter in this “air humping” thing you’re so fond of repeating, by the way. Last I checked a meter is greater than three feet…
I agree the rules are written poorly but if you look at how varland tagged your guy that’s a perfect example of what an attempt looks like
Except you’ve literally JUST said that “tag attempt” is undefined other than “up to the umpire.” So your calling that one a perfect attempt, or my calling Gunnar’s play an attempt, doesn’t really mean dick.
For what it’s worth (nothing, per the terms of this very argument), I think Holliday was as obviously out of the base path as Clement, and both clearly should’ve been deemed out.
It’s not a fair comparison the first base line has a very strict running path compared to second or third but side by side if you had to pick one varlands attempt is bullet proof and the other one isn’t I’d bet 7⁄10 umps would have given that call to the jays
I’ll concede that this is an excellent meme, Dr. Seafood.
My bad, it did get posted.
I’m sure this will be taken well
(idk how Ernie wasn’t out of the basepath either lol)
It was the wrong call which came at a particularly bad time.
Toronto got fucked by incorrect calls at several points during the back half of last year, so I get the frustration.
Alby should file a protest
Run the umps pockets. I say that as someone who thought the umpiring in general has been very good this season.
Chicken fight!!
Umps must hate phones given the missed call.
You lost a series to the marlins
How does that change the fact that the umps blew the call?
They didn’t blow the call there was no tag attempt he beat himself off a meter from the runner than threw to first assuming the ump would side with him he was wrong he could have made more of an effort than thrown to first but he got greedy an lost
“No tag attempt”
I have a fantastic eye doctor if you need it.
This isn’t the try league
My eyes work just fine I can see the score is 6 to 4
My brother in christ even other blue jays fans disagree with you. It was a tag attempt, not a great one but the rules just say an attempt has to be made, which it was.
The rules also say what qualifies as an attempt is up to the ump he made hand motions a meter from clement while he was still running toward him stopped stood there ignored clement as he passed an then threw to first there was no real effort to tag the argument being if he had made a real attempt he might not have gotten the Dp but he gambled attempted the DP an lost cause the tag attempt wasn’t valid you can’t pantomime a tag from a meter away or we would never see a run down you could just get within three feet and assume the runner is out
It’s clear you’re biased in your fandom choice, so continuing this conversation is meaningless. Farewell.
