Jalen Brunson was asked what teams missed or underestimated when he was eventually selected in the second round.
-His answer: “Everything.”
2018 was such a crazy draft. Already has 2 first ballot HOFs, and a ring plus more AS, AllNBA land Brunson in the hall as well
Jalen is already a lock now without any of that because of his college career.
College ain’t been a Naismith lock since the college HoF opened in 2006
By that logic NBA success doesn’t make a player a lock either. Plenty of players have been given a boost in the HOF because of their college career. The HOF opened in 1968. You’re just talking out of your ass.
Y the hostility bro 😂. I meant pure college ain’t enough anymore which is what dude meant. Calvin Murphy ain’t getting in these days is my point
You are completely right, case in point Christian Leattner who got inducted to the College HoF in 2010 and will most certainly not be in the NBA hall outside of his Team USA run.
ETA: basketball hall*
No such thing as the “nba hall”.
Ty
It’s the basketball hall not NBA but yeah you’re still correct
Yeah mb
I’m sure there is more than 1 ring unless you mean as a top option
Yes kostas antetokounmpo was taken 60th and he also has a ring
No, they mean: “2018 already has 2 first ballot HOFs. A ring, as well as more AS and All-NBA selections, land Brunson in the hall also.”
That year still depresses me because the Magic got the 6th pick…missing out on the “can’t miss” top 5 and got fucking Bamba.
Kevin Knox, we drafted Kevin Fortnite Jacket Knox, one pick before Mikal, and two picks before SGA. Let that sink in
Bro looks KD-Lite during Summer League then we even got Cal hyping him up saying he’s one of the best prospect that came out of UK. I thought we hit it big. Then Zion grabbed the ball out of him like a man taking it from a child and my theory is, along with his basketball skills.
Mavs could’ve had a dynasty
Would go at least 3rd in a redraft. From 33rd to 3rd is a crazy miss by many teams
And only because 1-2 is Luka Shai
Can you imagine him and Luka on the same team?
Mavs FO tremendously fucked up
And somehow it wasn’t their worst mistake
Would never happen!!
No way he goes over Shai or Luka, but he’s comfortably 3rd in a redraft.
Wdym? Are you forgetting that Antetokounmpo was in that draft?
You’re thinking of a different draft dude
The joke is that Kostas went 60th overall
A champion in his second year too mind you
I’d take Marvin Bagley at 3, look at his second jump. But Brunson can go 4.
Jalen over Luka.
Tbf he’s an exception isn’t he? Size was a legitimate issue
It still kinda is. Knicks are just great at switching him off ball handlers and he’s been shooting lights out in the clutch.
He may be small but his heart is large or whatever
His head is huge
Mitchell out-meated Shai, Brunson out-heads everyone else.
Also helps he’s not a total cone on defense, mostly cause of his strong core strength and lower center of gravity.
He’s also really good at drawing charges
Isn’t he statistically the worst defender in the league
I think you mean that he’s still hitting his defensive assignments, but attacking Brunson is literally the way to defeat the Knicks. He’s just being covered really well by his teammates.
1-14 is what the spurs shot against brunson in game 1. also no he’s not statistically the worst defender in the league lol
That was mostly Fox and it’s one game.
He lead the regular season in charges taken. He knows how to rotate well and gets to the spot first.
keyonte george is the worst defender in the league
He’s nowhere close to being the statistically worst defender in the league
An enlarged heart is a very serious medical condition.
Gotta be at least 6’6” for your lack of defense to not matter.
Good news for me I’m 6’6” and play zero defence in the finals.
But on the plus side, you will never travel comfortably in a plane
With my back pain I’ll never travel comfortably on any form of transport. Plus terrified od planes
That’s why you have Mikal and OG
Jalen Brunson: Questionable (enlarged heart)
Always has been
He’s 6’1 not 5’10.
Brunson is an outlier and small guards are useless unless they’re outliers.
Not totally true. You got guys like Deuce McBride, TJ McConnell, Jose Alvarado all who have played in the finals just in the last 2 years and are far from superstars or stars yet still incredibly useful pieces.
All of those guys have ridiculous, uncoachable amounts of hustle, though. TJ McConnell is out of the league for five years by now if he’d had an average motor.
No doubt but that’s part of the package. I’m 5’11 and played a bit of college ball. I knew from the time I was a freshman in HS that A. My handles passing and shooting had to be elite or there wouldn’t be a slot for me on the roster and B. That I had to work harder on the court.
I don’t even like playing PG lmao but my choices were to learn the position or not play competitive ball. It’s the same with all those guys.
Sure? You obviously have to bring other things if you don’t have size.
Yeah, but my point is that every guy he just listed is an outlier, and McConnell himself would tell you that playing hard is a skill which not everyone can develop. Your guys who don’t have that level of hustle, like Dennis Smith Jr., are out of the league.
TJ has a level of scrap you just can’t teach
That’s why he’s good friends with Josh Hart. They’re similar.
Most of the best PGs of the past 10-15 years are 6’2” or under lol
Imo he should’ve went higher based on his high school career and college career.
A high school title and 2 college championships and being the college player of the year should’ve at least given him a pick in late 1st.
I think with his profile, ppl looked too much at his size, lack of explosive athletics, and maybe age. I think scouts and fans get way too hyped on explosive athletics and size because loads of dudes like DSJ, Zion, Bouknight, Knox, Brandon Boston Jr, Patrick Williams etc all have both or one or the other yet these dudes haven’t really lived up to their potential
A high school title
undersells his high school career. he was the fiba under 19 mvp when he led the US to Gold on a team that also had Tatum, he was Illinois mr basketball, gatorade high school player of the year for the state twice, and was selected to every all-american and invitational team(parade, usa tody, mcdonalds, jordan brand classic, nike hoop summit)
There were essentially no more accolades for him to achieve at either the high school or college level.
I remember Rick Brunson said he set the most wins in HS for Illinois as well.
Bucks took the wrong Villanova guard
I think people sometimes fall back on the “you can’t teach size” thing because if you have some weaknesses in technique but are 6’6” or taller, that can be fixed with trainers. But there are no workouts or drills that can make you 6’6”. And that can lead to front office personnel getting scared to take a 6’2” guard in the first round.
Not how it works.
Everyone is better than Jalen Brunson, until it’s time to be better than Jalen Brunson.
You already know this is playing at the start of a highlight reel.
With All of the Lights music by Rihanna lol
How did I not know he was a second rounder. I figured he was a late first
He named his foundation Second Round, he’s definitely got a chip on his shoulder.
He’s getting a statue in nyc when this is all ovee
Does anyone know if Knicks were thinking about drafting Brunson ?
With the 10th pick? No. He was not close to that range.
Yes…Just about right AND sports analysts are still are questioning his skills in condescending ways
one word: mavs
Cold
Who asked the question his pr guy? Aura farming ass question
