[Phillips] These kids are getting a masterclass from Gerrit Cole. He’s been showing them different pitch grips for the last several minutes.
Cole is an excellent role model for young baseball players. The guy preps as much as any player in the league.
My favorite thing about him is how intelligent he is. Every response he gives is well thought out and articulated clearly, that’s something I love to see in athletes because it shows kids how important it is to speak and think intelligently.
His PGTs are a trip. Extremely fun to listen to bc he just keeps going on and on but he’s awkward so it’s hilarious

Reminds me of the time they asked him if he ever used sticky stuff to help pitch and he had a well thought out response. It was amazing. Lol
Good pitcher though.
Everyone used spider tack until it was banned, be real.
Also an astros fan being salty about someone “cheating” (although not really cheating) is too good
What made you think I’m salty about it? It was just a hilarious moment in an interview. He was doing it with the Astros too. Lol its still extremely funny watching him goof the interview.
Also it was most certainly cheating. It was against the rules no matter how many people did it.
Excellent avatar
For real. The way he breaks down his mechanics and grip adjustments is something you don’t see every day from a guy at his level. Kids are lucky to get that kind of insight straight from the source.
As a jays fan it is my job to hate the Yankees and every player on their team.
But you got to credit Cole, the guy grew up a Yankee fan and it was his goal in life to play for them and the dude worked his ass off to achieve that goal.
And it’s things like this that will give kids today the same drive to achieve their dreams. In 10-15 years we will see pictures of a new rookie as a kid getting a lesson from Cole, his Idol today.
He’s a dickhead who couldn’t handle giving up a bomb to a 20 year-old in high a ball so he threw at him like a bitch.
Edit: Keep the downvotes coming Yankee fans!

Dude is soft as a pillow 🥱
imagine being dumb enough to actually think this
Lol. That’s absolutely what happened. It was a bitch move by Cole.
The last time Cole was frustrated with a batter he chucked a FB to the top of the backstop against Caballero. The clip linked doesn’t show that there was a single inbetween those plays, it’s spliced to make it seem like it happens immediately after. Which isn’t the case.
The clip linked doesn’t show that there was a single inbetween those plays
No, but the title of the post literally does say that.
Very nice of the video to completely miss showing the infield single In between those plays. It makes it seem like it’s directly after. Last time Cole got frustrated with someone, he chucked a FB to the top of the backstop against Caballero. He also immediately threw up 4 against Devers. When he’s frustrated he makes it known. Not whatever bullshit this is. Didn’t even mention the catcher setting up low and inside which he missed his spot considering, it’s a fucking rehab assignment. Sorry your fan fiction wasn’t appreciated kindly
Next lesson is how to demolish a banana in under 5 seconds
It’s actually insane how much this man cares about his potassium
Monkey never cramps
Honestly I get it, it’s just so easy to consume a banana and get instant nutrients and fiber
And it comes in its own packaging. Bananas are truly goated
The radioactivity gives him super powers
The “wow” mid sentence when the camera pans back to him cracks me up every single time 😂
lmao gotta have a good pregame snack to fuel those 98mph fastballs
Damn some of those kids need to pay attention more lol
Their dads seem to care more than they do.
Right. Tan shirt is the only one who appears locked in the way you should be locked in when Gerrit Cole is giving you a pitching lesson.
You hear a lot about the attention span thing with these kids who grow up with short form phone videos as their preferred medium of entertainment, but it’s still pretty wild to see this example of how impossible it is to hold their attention for more than a couple of seconds
Or they just never really cared about pitch grips.
Could be, but if they’re on the field at Yankee Stadium, they didn’t just take a wrong turn and randomly end up there. Presumably they have some interest in baseball. Getting instruction up close from a big leaguer is pretty cool
Ehhhh, let’s be real, children have been inattentive about this kind of thing for ages. Not everybody becomes a pro.
I’m watching the video and not really understanding this debate. They all look like they’re paying attention just fine. Kids fidget and glance around basically all the time even if they’re locked in
I just love how serious Cole looks about this.
Like he is about to say you better remember this, it will be on the midterm.
He went to UCLA, a real university.
So that tracks.
And Orange Lutheran, a really good and expensive private school.
Baseball, huh
Warning tracks
Cole basically spent the majority of his time on the IL as a de-facto assistant pitching coach, dude LOVES pitching more than any pitcher out there.
BBL Gerrit at it again
🍑
Did he show them how to point at first base?
lmao gotta teach the fundamentals early. Next up: how to stare down the dugout after a strikeout.
Or throw at a batter who hits a home run off you?
Gerrit Cole is THICC
Is this a paid for thing, like for season ticket holders? Or is this for charity?
He’s only revealing this information because unfortunately every single one of those kids are terminal.
“Alright, might as well tell you guys the truth. So the key to an effective curveball is… there’s this one company called Spider Tack…” /s
Just like Spider-Man!
This can be multiple things, charity, school kids with batting practice pass, former players, players buddies who came early, person singing the national anthem, a war vet, etc the list can go on. A few stadiums sell BP on field passes though.
In this particular case for a player to really come over and spend time explaining and not just signing. Usually means they are friends or somehow know each other to the point he takes time out of his day and doesn’t just acknowledge his buddies but also their kids.
I don’t think these kids really recognize how cool of a moment this is. I love listening to ballplayers talking about the game.
Good let’s break their elbows early
hey, Cole made it like 13 years without TJ. he might be one of the better guys to teach these kids haha
I would take every single one of those kids 475 to dead center with the wind blowing in. I just would.
Future big leaguers!
Tooted up
I think you are underestimating how cool you would have found it to have an MLB all star giving you tips if you played when you were a kid. And these aren’t just random kids off the street, they’re presumably down on the field at Yankee Stadium because they have some sort of interest in baseball. Kids have a different attention span than they used to, it’s not offensive to acknowledge difference.
Not everybody becomes a pro.
Has nothing to do with anything. You don’t need to be a future pro to pay attention for a couple of minutes. It’s ok if they’re not interested, but we don’t have to pretend that the attention span thing isn’t real
There are going to be 5 more gerrit coles in about 14 years
“Sir, I just wanted an autograph”
“Okay, but I signed right along the part of the ball you want to grip with your ring finger to make it cut inside to a righty”
I’ve always gotten the feeling that there are few things that a pitcher enjoys more than showing off pitch grips.
“And if he takes you deep in AA, grip the four seamer like this and put one in his back!”
“Wanna see an example? Alright, hold still. Actually, before that, let me walk you through my highly disciplined banana regimen.”
points at banana like Rizzo
