6 year old RaizQT clip on the PoE UI is still true all these year later.
Boss HP bar covers up your buffs if you have a lot of them. I can’t ever see my buffs when I’m fighting a boss.
If you play a build that uses cooldowns AND buff tracking your vision has to constantly go from bottom right to top left. I had to reroll because of this.
I was raging at this exact thing yesterday, playing spirit walker twisters, I cannot see if I have 3 stacks of owl feathers bc of boss hp bar.
for me spirit walker twister gameplay is like rhythm game, so i’m looking at buffs only at the start of rotation. Ice tip, barrage, dodge, 3 whirling, twister; Barrage, 3 whirling, twister; 3 whirling, twister; 1 second delay and repeat. I have olroth support in owl and second wind in barrage as well as in ice tip arrows.
When you play on console your buffs are on the bottom of the screen.
Not even console just controller. I use a controller on pc
Hilariously the only one I actually care about on my minions spiritwalker is the respawn timer which is by default the first buff every boss HP bar will cover up lmao
for some reason I cannot hover the boss’ buffs while with my mouse while paused to READ what they actually are, it’s crazy
It’s so funny to me how many of these complaints are solved by the controller UI. Buffa and debuffs are near the health bar, you can pause the game and select any buff and debuff on the screen to read
What in tarnation.
get out of here! I’m a pc player I should have all the privileges!!!
I am too, I’m playing monk on controller because managing 2 buffs and 4 skills is a pain on MnK
I hate this boss hp bar, i can’t see a boss in this effects in rituals, put a small hp bar right on him, not on whole screen
I hope they atleast give us an ascendancy that scales with the amounts of buffs you have
Playing martial artist monk was miserable until I got Ailith’s Chimes. Before Ailith’s Chimes, I had to be aware of my power charge situation because I need to cull the bells to make them. Now I just hit Mantra of Destruction, and get 5 of them. There’s still a lot of bugs with that tho… Delayed Gratification on Mantra doesn’t seem to count the second use for power charge generation.
They should let you move around UI elements like WoW does.
This fucking game, man.
Man boss HP bar is over the fucking Boss… I can’t see what they are doing
Timers on things like Sekhemas (hourglass rooms) or Trial of Chaos (survival round) cover up the enemy health bar and their debuffs as well.
rerolled my spark sorc for the same reason. couldnt see arcane surge stacks under the boss hp bar, just gave up
Yep, playing djinn minion build and it’s suuuper hard to see whether archon is up behind the boss hp bar
Small nitpitck: this is most certainly older than 6 years, probably nearing 10 years actually, judging by the Atlas of Worlds title screen.
It even has the Boat intro for characters. I miss that so much.
ATTENTION PRISONERS
Same. Music was amazing too
That and OG Lioneye’s are 2 best tracks in both games.
I found it on a compilation that was uploaded 6 years ago. Might have been an old clip.
This clip is, in fact, almost 10 years old. The login screen shows “atlas of worlds” that expansion released in September of 2016 (patch 2.4)
What are you talking about? That was like yesterday….. Wait, oh God…
i’ve read it as clip of 6 years old raizqt
GGG should just allow us to float and lock the UI elements ourselves so we can fix in seconds what they are seemingly incapable of doing in years.
They’ve said several times now they will never let us change the ui ourselves because they want the game to look consistent everywhere
That is one reason they’ve given, but I suspect the much bigger reason is that the UI code is legacy and no one at the company wants to touch it. Legacy code is just developer-speak for old and shitty code that lots of stuff relies on and no one at the company remembers how it works so you just pretend it doesn’t exist and hope it never breaks.
The UI code they have in was made in the early days of PoE being developed and it’s obvious that PoE2 is still using a lot of that code, so we’re talking about very bad code that would be a pain in the ass to change to a degree that perhaps only a software developer could appreciate. Anyone who has ever worked with legacy code will immediately understand why GGG isn’t interested in doing something like giving players the ability to move UI elements around.
I know. I know. It sounds like it should be easy to code. It is kinda easy to code if you are starting with fresh with no existing code. What makes it hard is when you have hundreds of thousands of lines of C++ code that relies on that existing UI code and so whatever new code you write has to continue to work well with those other hundreds of thousands of lines of code. It’s like replacing a car’s engine while the car is running. Refactors on big code bases are scary, guys.
That said, PoE2 was their opportunity to start with fresh code and instead they chose to fork PoE1’s code instead of start from scratch, so that’s a reason for criticism I’d say. But there are other trade-offs that factor in there so it’s not a simple choice.
I still remember when they said asynchronous trade was impossible and look where we are.
They never say that
Absolutely they did, you guys aren’t old enough to know that. Chris Wilson put up a trade manifesto saying why it was impossible.
Trade manifesto focused on them not wanting trade to be easy. Not that it couldn’t be done.
You’re right, I misremembered. I was thinking of dealing with desync and the desync manifesto about how lockstep was impossible.
This 1000%. It’s absolutely stupid that they haven’t yet.
Add transparency too, I wouldn’t mind having my buffs / debuffs above my character but highly transparent. So I can see what is going on with my character whilst still being able to see enemies.
True.
I miss Raiz, it’s a bit sad he pretty much gave up on PoE.
Why? What happened with him?
He pretty much gave up on PoE.
But why? What happened with him?
Did he give up on PoE?
Pretty much
Just enjoying other things in life. He already has more than 20K hours in PoE and well, the game is always the same setup a build and kill shit.
For the life of me I can’t even figure out how people spend 20K hours+ on one single game but everybody is cabled differently.
He plays Dota 2 now. Raiz is the victim in this clip: https://youtu.be/QrbGQox__Kk
For context, Dendi is an ex pro and a goat of early Dota 2
But why ? What happened with him ?
He lost his passion for the game. I love raiz and hope he well in his future endeavors
“Victim” is an odd description for the honor of getting cliffed by a Dendi Pudge hook. 🙃
Imo, He was an OG and I think over the years the game (PoE1) changed a lot underneath him and he didn’t keep pace and then new content creators came along and dominated races then the racing culture died. Hardcore culture died.
Raiz kinda got pushed out of his hardcore racer niche, and he seemed burnt out and frustrating with the game (bugs and nerfs every league start), he didn’t pivot into being a chill softcore build creator lost his passion.
Same. Was my favorite streamer. He was playing SSFHC in PoE2 though.
He played two days then hasn’t played this league since. Sucks because he did seem interested in the update.
Yesterday I toggled the setting for bars above my character model. Much better than looking at the pool every other second during combat.
The thing about the health globe is that you should be able to see it move without looking right at it. That’s why it’s so big so you see it in your peripheral vision. But it doesn’t work that well now when it’s all the way down in the corner.
You can center the UI in the options. Though the UI in general just seems to be better for consoles.
That is only for Ultra-Widescreen. Normal widescreen has the globes at the bottom corners.
No there is a setting for normal screen to choose where the orbs are. Check your settings.
I would very much like to know where you’ve found this setting.
The only one I can find only works for widescreen and cannot be checked.
Go to options. Go to UI and scroll down to controller. Thanks for the downvote where Google would have done you some real service here
Edit: I use a controller could be the difference in UI
No there is not on PC.
I wish I could turn my UI off.
If I die, I die.
the worst offender is the ES bar imo. Unless you go CI it’s really not visible enough. PoE1 ES had much much much better visibility, wish we could chose the style.
I can’t play an ES build that’s doesn’t go CI on HC cause of that.
PoE1 ES had much much much better visibility
It also just looked cool af. Can’t believe they went away from that design.
So many things in PoE2 feel like a victim of GGG wanting to be as different from PoE1 as possible. The piddly ES bar is one of those things I don’t understand why they changed it.
I play with controller so all my buffs and debuffs are at the bottom, also now you can just pause and check them at least.
now you can just pause and check
Give it another 6 years and optimal play will turn POE2 into a turn based game
It’s amazing how many QOL things are on controller that aren’t on mouse and keyboard. I usually league start campaign and early maps on mnk, then once everything is online, switch to controller.
On controller I can pause my game just by going to the inventory (I don’t have to jump through the hoop of hitting p to open my passive tree). The game stays paused when I’m in any options menu. And, in probably the biggest middle finger to mnk, on controller I don’t have to have wombgifts in my inventory to use the genesis tree, it just auto slots them from my stash.
I recently started having an issue where my honor bar covers my buffs in Trial of the Sekhema when playing with a controller. I swear it didn’t do this before, it used to be above them.
https://preview.redd.it/dmneo8zbov5h1.png?width=650&format=png&auto=webp&s=d42118ab0dcac9bb34ff725b73d0069be5d1417d
I play on controller as well, and had this issue. For me it only happend after using the R stick in pause menu to get more information of about my buffs. Seemed it doesn’t properly reset the position of the honour bar after.
Then rage build up is all the way on the other side
I still can’t believe no one in the team brought up that the heavh stun bar should also be under the mana bar if you turn the option to have health/mana bars over your character. Something as important as that should be included there.
Yes, constantly looking at the corner to see if I can handle one more parry is frustrating.
I wish we could just modify the ui like we did in wow. Just give me the option to play how I want! I mean, poe has been around for over a decade and they’ve been developing poe2 for 5 years now? Why can’t I just adjust the ui to my play style?
They don’t want ui customisation because they want people that watch poe content to easily recognise the game with the ui. Now whatever or not this is a good take is another question but that their reason, at least the last time I saw it mentionned in an interview.
I’d be more OK with the health globe if the screen redness was more defined earlier. There are times I’m under 50% and I don’t even realize it because the minuscule redness is drowned out in screen clutter and the general hue of the tileset.
no way raiz had hair 6 years ago, this must be like 7-8 years old
edit: I was right, this is a 10 year old clip
[deleted]
Not a fan of the suggested UI, feels too console/mobile. but i like the idea of Debuffs being next to current HP bar, buffs can stay top left.
Really dumb they care more about how the game looks on streams rather than the player experience
Im playing a lowlife ES build. Its so dam. Hard to see how much ES I actually have since its a stupidly small bar
i dont ever look at my debuffs for this lone reason.
Me trying to maintain 3 different buffs on my monk
I don’t look at that, pretty much not at all. It’s why I can no longer enjoy games that won’t let me put mini bars above my character.
The purpose of the big health globe is to be able to see if you take damage without looking straight at it. Much easier if it’s a bit more centered. I don’t like staring at the mini bars.
I remember this clip xD. Don’t remember this audio being so crunchy lol
I rarely even check the hp bar at bottom mostly just the bar at top of the character. Funnily, he also has that turned on, but checks bottom bar.
For me the health globe can be perceived completely peripherally without having to look at it. The tiny bar above your head you need to look at to see if you are taking damage.
In HC I need to see if I take a chunk of damage instantly.
Watching your cooldowns, debuffs and health at the same time is like watching a tennis match. We need a modern better thought out UI or they can just let us move globes and buffs/debuffs around as we please.
A UI improvement is desperately needed, there are many issues like the quest line when you enter maps gets so huge it literally takes half of my screen. When I open stash or the global chat and challenges they all overlap. I really don’t know how can’t they see those things in 2026
You can make the quest tracker text smaller in the UI settings.
literally me trying to make sure i dont get heavy stunned from refutation while making sure all my buffs and power charges are up…
idc if it fills the screen, allow me to put buff icons below my player or something
Hot take, let me move my ui as i want
I would love a hud, something like how weak auras work in wow. I don’t really want to take my eyes if my character, the the entire reason for the map overlay. I should not have to journey from the bottom right if my screen to the top left to see skills + buffs/cd. It’s crazy and for some unknown reason, even a centered UI is off limits for me …
Can’t anyone mod it?
Man I miss the rat streams so much
Having the HUD, or at least some elements of it, be customizable would fix a lot of issues. I just read in another comment that GGG wants the game to look consistent, but that honestly seems like a very arbitrary reason to not implement it, like, why would they care if people have different layouts?
Guild wars 1 had a fully customizable UI over 20 years ago. And it was not “customizable” like some games, where you need to know how to write up your own mods, it was simple drag and drop and widow resize.
I don’t understand how this is not a staple, since different builds in these games will have different needs.
Wait people solely look at the orbs for their HP? I alternate between the health bar and the orb/number display depending on where I’m looking on my screen
like you can react in poe1 😛
I never had this issue ever. In any game. I am nearly 60 years old and have played games since the 1970s.
NAH It’s something that can be perceived completely peripherally. I’ve never had to look at it directly. But…Maybe people with glasses have a problem with that.
On the controller UI the buffs and debuffs are next to the health bubbles.
That said, getting this upset over a video game can’t be healthy. Go outside.
