You can map dodge and sprint to seperate keybinds now I think, not sure as I dont use it but should be possible

one option is dodge and the other one is dodge/sprint cause every sprint starts with a dodge. You cant really avoid sprinting unless you plan to unbind it and stop sprinting completely which i think is a bad idea.
You could just bind them seperately though? Treat dodge/sprint as sprint button and use just dodge for your dodging? I agree its not the best thought out design tho

You can avoid sprinting by just not holding down the key. I don’t understand what the problem here is.
That would be the normal behavior - but PoE2 (and PoE1 for that matter) has long had issues (albeit not something that affects everyone equally) with player interactions being sent twice, despite only doing one interaction.
That’s why so many hated sprint at first - because the game “decided” that it wanted to sprint, when dodge was only getting tapped once.
There has also been a few reports of this in the Ritual UI as well - people deferring items and instantly also sending the rest to be used towards the King of the Mist key, despite only clicking once - another reason why the same button location is so weird.
This isn’t a simply “just don’t do X”-kinda thing, for some people (because some people are legitimately not doing that to begin with). It’s a game issue for those people. And apparently/luckily not one you’ve run into.
the separate bind helps but it still feels clunky having dodge and sprint tied together tbh. lost a t15 ritual to a faceplant last league
Yeah but it’s the most backwards way they could have possibly done it. People wanted a button for sprint, and a button for dodge roll. Not a button to sprint/dodge roll and a button to dodge.
Sprint is balanced by requiring a dodge first.
How are you guys accidentally sprinting? Like legit question. Can it activate if you double tap dodge? I’ve been playing on controller the whole league so I dunno if it’s different for keyboarders
I just yesterday switched to controller and the pathfinding is just way different. Its miles better with controller
My biggest request for controller is the ability to seamlessly switch to MK without having to go back to the menu. For casual play, I greatly prefer the controller but inventory and skill tree management is far easier with MK. I got used to this in D4, and I wish it worked this way in PoE.
Totally agree that sprinting works better on controller, though I still don’t really like the mechanic very much.
there seems to sometimes be a “sticky” input on keyboard (doubt its due to grime on keyboard, and more lag or something similar)
where a quick single press, is considered as a longer held press, and the character start sprinting even if the spacebar is not held. it just last a few frames, but that can be enough to cause a disaster.
Yeah i noticed this too. Also sometimes you have this weird instance of starting a roll, but going dead slow, and then twice as fast half a second later.
It could be lag or connection related, but i havent encountered it once with controller..
If you use blink, you have to literally tap the dodge roll key so fast otherwise it thinks you’re trying to sprint. It’s so bad that people made a macro to stop you from sprinting after a blink.
I dunno, I’m on keyboard and have never accidentally sprinted as far as I can remember.
I’ve been on controller all league and i can’t tell if its the game’s servers or my controller somehow but it just sporadically chooses to stop detecting any of my inputs, but simultaneously holds down the last button i pressed before the server lags/stalls out. I’ve definitely run into the dodge/roll sprint bug before but it happens with all my skills when this issue occurrs
I don’t remember previous league’s in PoE2 being this terrible. It’s like its forcing me to play on Predictive mode back in PoE1 when i’ve never had issues on Lockstep. PoE2 feels like Lockstep for 80% of the time and the 20% of the time your inputs become non-responsive and delayed and it feels awful

Yes if you hold spacebar for 0.0001 seconds too long or you try to spam roll without the lightest of feather touches on your keyboard you start sprinting and immediately eat shit and die or at least end up sliding half way across your screen like you’re on ice skates.
The sprint mechanic just needs to be made a lot more forgiving. Don’t start the sprint unless I hold the button for another half a second. Add a grace period of a second or two at the start of the sprint where I don’t get knocked down by absolutely anything touching me. Scale the slide after releasing the sprint based on how long I sprinted for so that a half second sprint doesn’t result in a 2 seconds slide. Actually apply my stun threshold to the sprint knockdown so I can stop falling on my face if I have a high enough threshold (seriously why doesn’t it work like that, the heavy stun system is already in the game and well supported, it baffles me that sprinting bypasses it completely).
There are so many little tweaks that could make sprint feel 100x better to use while still keeping the risk/reward of it. I really hope GGG actually addresses this feedback before 1.0.
Playing melee in ritual. Rat tornado. 5 bosses at once. Somewhere there a poison puddle from the mushroom dude. Panic dodge. Stuck in mobs. Panic dodge again. Get free for a sec, but you are running from constant spam. Get slapped. Fall. Die. Reroll ranged or minion
Some Sort of Skill issue inguess, Sometimes after dodging with spacebar my Finger will Rest in spacebar
Tho there is a grace period for tripping now. You cant fall first couple of steps. Or your reaction time is also some kind of a problem?
The whole implementation is ass imo. So you want to dodge?
Dodge to walk? You come to a complete stop before starting your walk.
Dodge to run? You can get tripped.
Dodge to run to stop? Long ass stop running animation.

Yea I think people latch on to specifics in all these threads but overall the movement system just makes zero sense. Like why is any of it like this
You can absolutely fall from the shortest of accidental sprints. You can fall mid-attack after a sprint. You can fall while getting the stop animation.
If you mash dodge a bit, it will sometimes sprint even if you’re not holding it anymore, and the only safe way out is to pounce/leap slam/block afaik.
No there isn’t, at least not more than like a couple frames. Tiny accidental sprints knock you on your ass all the time.
Doesn’t that make typing really hard?

Something something the mobs aren’t designed around you being able to just break out into a sprint
You get hit and then you fall down and get beaten to death. That’s a different story. It’s also kinda cool imo. Watch your surroundings and don’t sprint like a donkey.
I’ve only recently started playing and so far I’ve had no problem at all with it. I’ve accidentally tripped twice and I’ve laughed at it both times because I know what I did.
And I’ve laughed when I’ve seen my girlfriend come rushing past me and faceplanting when countering an arrow with her face.
The only complaint I have is that I REALLY hate that I can’t bind dodge/sprint to Shift without it fucking up my ability to split items or such in menus. If I have my inventory open, ESPECIALLY in town, please… just let me hold shift without darting off…
I used to have this issue but since I’m using separate buttons for sprinting and dodging I have had no issues

There’s a super tedious dodge into long press sprint.
There’s a button to dodge.
There is no ability to simply sprint.
Still wish our baseline movement speed was faster and dodge and sprint were removed from the game

If you only read replies to these kinda threads on the forums, you’d think sprinting is fine and it’s just a skill issue. So I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks heavy stun on sprint is stupid.
I would mind it if less of the endgame content didn’t just disappeared if you die half the time.
Or the game becomes readable past act 2-3
I havent played since GGG showed sprint into the game without a dedicated sprint button. Did they change this?

Well that means sprint has it’s own button now but still requires dodge to start?
I dont understand why the directors at GGG are so janky. Sometimes you have to wonder is it resource management and time constraints or is it a director that says “well, you cant make everyone happy, so now Im gonna make what is true to my vision, but I’ve been stuck in this box for 25 years and Im just gonna perfect this box”
The whole dodge mechanic is by far the worst part of the game.
Then sprint on top of it just makes it even worse.

Agreed, except the issue when you need to hold Shift to split items or such. That’s a separate issue tough, but man is it annoying.
Honestly they just need to decouple Dodge and sprint. It’s by far the most annoying implementation ever.
