This Playoffs Been Killing the Concept of the “Best In the World” Conversation/Debate.
Going into this playoffs the conversation about who was the best was split between Jokic, Shai, and Wemby.
Jokic got embarrassed in his matchup against the Wolves and exposed for his defensive weaknesses. People who’ve been claiming he’s the best for years have changed their tune. (I still think he is but yeesh)
MVP Shai’s “unstoppable” highly efficient mid-range game looked quite stoppable when the Spur’s guards were on him and France’s umbrella was in the paint. He played well at times, but no one would say he looked better then Wemby.
Now Wemby’s playing at a level decidedly below KAT in the finals on a team that was favored to win. Wemby also looks sad whenever he plays against Jokic, so there’s clearly players that can shut him down on either end.
No doubt all these players are amazing and ranking players is still fun, but it’s been amazing to see that yeah, none of these players are inevitable and it’s been humbling to watch like Jaden McDaniels and KAT just clown the supposed best in the league. Same for teams, rip everyone who thought Nuggets, Rockets, and Boston would make it deep. The age of parity is really here and these last two playoffs have been fun.
