Knicks fans in Harlem having block party watchalongs of the Finals
What a time to be in new york
We got this and the World Cup this month and next month. Madness in this glorious city.
I’ll be there in August, don’t know if the city can handle me having 4 beers and calling it a night at 1030.
Dude you might be too wild for this place, haha
That’s reality for most New Yorkers. Don’t believe the hype
Lol you’re being downvoted but you’re right. I’m in my 30s now. Most nights I go out to the bar and by the time clock hits 9 I need to call it a night or I’m gonna be having a bad night sleep/pay for it the next day.
During a Knicks finals run though? Fuck that. My cousin was across the globe watching this shit with me in China and I stayed up till 2AM from the adrendaline. Haven’t felt like this since I was in my 20s lol. LETS GO KNICKS
I’ve lived in NYC for more than 30 years, since I was a kid, and I went out so much between 16-27 or so that I just lost interest in nightlife after that. I think that’s true for a ton (not all) of us who grew up here.
Same. We used to do bar crawls that end up with us getting home at like 5AM in the morning. I’m still sad so many of the bars I frequented as a kid are now closed cause of covid.
It was definitely a good time, just I’m not built like that anymore.
This is why drinking in my 30s just doesn’t seem worth it anymore haha. Feel like I’d just be anxious about the next day the whole time. Granted I haven’t drank in 4 years so it just seems unappealing in general at this point.
Lmfao
Are people there excited for the world cup? There’s like 0.0 enthusiasm for it in LA as far as I can tell
In NYC, the usual hardcore NYC sports fans aren’t from what I’ve seen but NYC is such a melting pot of different demographics and different ethnicities that a lot of those folks are very excited. I expect the traffic in North Jersey to be an utter mess for the next month because people are going to be heading in and out of MetLife like crazy.
Hopefully once it gets started it will rise above the political mess and people will enjoy the sport
City is absolutely pumped given how culturally diverse it is but the Knicks are far more important lol.
NYC is always fun during the World Cup because of all the cultures here. You can find a bar for any country and it will be packed with everyone chanting and singing their local songs.
I’d say it’s meh, but the Knicks is basically drowning out everything else at the moment. I’m sure the soccer fans will come alive after the finals though. I’m not a big soccer fan but I almost always like to tune into a few games during the world cup. Will be cool to see it being played at MetLife.
Just made my way through the city. It’s pretty awesome.
Watched at our local restaurant in Brooklyn with a big outdoor patio with a tv. Right after the Knicks win, in succession: (1) legit fireworks start going off like crazy; (2) a bunch of motorcyclists start revving their engines and doing wheelies and shit; (3) garbage trucks drive by honking their horns
Looks cozy and all
Basketball in June never happened before.
Wanted to post this to show how a lot of us have been enjoying the games so far here in the city. I always see the viral kids outside the garden (which is cool too!), but most people are just getting together like this or in bars or at friends houses and it’s been such a cool shared experience
Please post more of this, this is so sweet and we need to see more community love like this
We love to see it!
Please post more, this is sick
Reminds me of the Arsenal fanbase in North London .
Hoping both end up using 2026 to exercise demons.
It’s so refreshing to see a professional sports organization with a special relationship with the team. Understand neither are necessarily traditional “underdogs” necessarily - given the markets they’re located -but truly the loyalty through the hard times just makes it all so much more satisfying.
Where in Harlem is this at?
I bought playoff tickets for game 7 last year…not too bad up in the nose bleeds. There’s no way I can afford these finals tickets, so the block parties are clutch
Absolutely love this content
Where is this in Harlem? would love to pull up for game 3
nah man, THIS is the example of real Knicks fans. I have been at midtown for the shenanigans a few times the last two years. There are Knicks fans there, sure, but it is mostly people who want to party/go nuts/maybe cause a problem/etc. if the Knicks lost they wouldnt care the next day
I have so much envy towards people who live in new york during times like this
I’m in California, rich with sports teams and couldn’t imagine something like this in my wildest dreams.
This kind of communal experience is genuinely beautiful, and I fucking love it for Knicks fans the world over.
We did this in Toronto
Those mfers went crazy on the street
But not for every game. Just the last one and winning the conference.
This is an almost identical situation to if the Leafs were in the Finals. That’s what it would take. It’s been equally painful if not equally long. Basketball in NY is very like hockey in Canada.
Come to SF.
They shut down a small side street and someone was hosting a watch party with a TV from their van.
That and plenty sports bars within walking distance.
Ey yo where’s this?
Burbs life is a no brainer for me, but moments like this make me envy. Happy for Knicks fans!
what a walkable city gets you!
this guy (gender-neutral) gets it
I’m not even a knicks fan, but attending a game in the garden is one of the top experiences in my life.
Yeah fr, I’m in Houston and it was cool to go to the bars during the Astros World Series wins. But stuff like this where you literally have people right from outside your house watching the game… I’m jealous but happy for yall
i left the city in the last year, for cheaper rent, and now i really regret it!!!! At least im still in the tri state, and can visit NYC for the parade when we win
We did this in my hood too over in Bed stuy. Crazy ending tonight!!!
The Mecca baby
Block party watch…World might be healing
This is awesome.
I wish La had this kind of vibe but city planning discourages this
There would be a bunch of people upset you’re blocking their car.
Literally a huge part of why I left LA lol
New York is the most basketball city. Much respect, y’all are psychos.
goddamn that’s a vibe
NYC been waiting so long
Glad to see the culture still stayed in Harlem 🙏🏿
Sometimes it feels like sports is the one thing that can still bring communities together like this. Everything else seems like it’s been successfully corrupted to pit us all against each other in some way.
Sports always pit two teams and their fans against each other though. Each fanbase gets a sense of belonging fighting against the other team. Us vs Them.
I have a vivid memory of watching the Lakers / Nuggets bubble playoff game where AD hit that game winner from three. We were at Busby’s in Santa Monica in an outdoor area that was spaced out to account for social distancing – it was literally the first time my roommates and I had been out in a public space with other people since the start of COVID.
I’m not even a Lakers fan but that shit was a religious experience feeling the communal joy and energy of complete strangers after being without it for months.
When Pacquaio was in his prime it used to unite the whole country, so much so that the rebels in the south and the national army would agree to temporary ceasefires just to watch him on TV
This is fucking awesome!
The best part of sports
Yeah, I need to see their reaction to that ending cuz oh man 😅
this is the best part about sports
Was on the way from a birthday party today in Brooklyn and drove by two of these and they were way less official looking. Just a bunch of people hanging around maybe sitting in a lawn chair and projecting the game onto the side of their building.
Energy in the city is so great right now.
Goated shit. A block or so from my house
This fucking rules
Hell yeah! I watched tonight out on my street at the Greek festival in Brooklyn where the priest had wheeled out a TV for us lol. It was a beautiful feeling to have that moment of shared humanity with so many neighbors. Go new york go new york go! ✊
i know they cussing the fuck outta the refs over there lmao
This is the real New York
This is dope ngl
Why not make the video fullscreen though, 😭
every borough and neighborhood has blocks like this for these games. It’s really incredible. I feel like you don’t see stuff like this as much as you used to.
That’s why despite not liking the Knicks and generally how Brunson plays with the head snapping (hasn’t really been the case for the playoffs), I’m rooting for the Knicks. Not that SA wouldn’t have a sense of community, but something about major cities with droughts coming together and seeing everyone band together is so cool. Was the same thing with the Cubs. Was awesome to see the city come together for it, even a ton of Sox fans.
That’s amazing and I hope for whoevers sake the stream never goes down
Fuck, that is so cozy.
damn that would be so cool to be at, I’m jelous!
This is sick.
SUMMER 26 IS SO POPPING AHH I’m happy
I went to one in Central Park on a smaller screen after seeing the super long line to get into the official knicks one at summerstage
That parade* is going to he fucking wild
do they have a reaction to the ending?
Saw it at a sports bar with a hundred other people. Blowing a 14pt lead to Brunson missing the shot and Wemby turning it over and fouling.
Such a fucking roller coaster. MSG mosh pits afterwards were lit. Feels like the city hasn’t buzzed like this in a looong time
Dope as fuck
The Mamdani effect IRL
I hope it stays safe. I was in Fenway when the sox came back from 0-3 against the yankees. Shit got wild. Cops shot a girl in the eye with a rubber bullet and killed her. They were throw flash grenades in the crowds, rushing people with horses…
This is sick
Cursing my parents for moving me to the second greatest place on earth (California) when I was a kid. I could be there right now
This is what the world cup was like when I was visiting a country that won it. It was amazing. Young New Yorkers will remember this year forever if they win. Im a Cavs fan and we got Bing bonged but I love to see this.
This is what the Knicks mean to this city.
It’s a long time coming for Knicks fans. Kinda rooting for them. In 7 please. I need more games.
I miss and love NYC. Some of the best community fabric I’ve ever had the privilege of being apart of.
Hell yea, streets for the people
Harlem is special, I went to a watch party a few blocks away from here, it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had watching a game with people. It doesn’t matter where you are, the game was being watched by everybody,
LMAO, this is like two blocks away from my house.
Sports have been the only thing to bring people together forever. Even the Olympics and World Cup brings countries together.
Dope
Brunson 7-45 from the field… MVP!!!!
The unc watch party
