That is basically the Celtics scheme as well. They allow very few shots at the basket and a bunch of above the break 3s. It has largely worked, the last two playoff losses have been more on offense, but it does leave you vulnerable to the Heat being blood magicians or the Pacers being a team of destiny.

I do wonder if the Celtics need to try to learn how to turn the dial up on the “mugging” though. They rarely foul and as a result rarely force turnovers. The last two playoffs have really demonstrated how important it is to get transition points. See the Thunder and Pacers last year. And people justifiably made fun of Kenny Atkinson’s comments, but Cavs-Knicks was a much more even series in the half court. They just got beat like a drum on the break

I don’t even know why he gets this small guard tag, the cutoff is like 6’3 that one inch separator isn’t a big deal. It’s clear as day with how national media covers Tatum that it’s *because* he’s a Boston Celtic. The national media mainstays are LA and NY and their focused on their teams. Hell, David Stern literally said his ideal finals would be Lakers vs Lakers.

This is why this shit happens, there’s literally nobody in media outside of bill simmons that is a celtics fan and almost every other person in the media comes from a place where they are raised to hate the celtics, so that bias leaks into all of their coverage of us.

Another reason is the lie that boston is somehow the most evil and racist place in the entire country, so the majority of basketball fans also get to use that to hate us as well.

I remember at one of our home games against the sixers we had the white shirts out for the fans and that meme went around of the shirts having a hood attached, which was hilarious to be completely honest, but that doesn’t happen to any other team in the league.

Boston teams are always the villain. The Patriots actually had a legitimate feel good story this year and people still spent more time talking about their easy schedule and playoff path than the fact they made the Super Bowl way ahead of schedule with a rookie quarterback.

The Celtics win 64 games and a championship and the coverage is “yeah but…” The Knicks win two Finals games and suddenly we’re debating whether we’re witnessing one of the greatest playoff runs ever. It’s just the Boston tax. Every flaw gets magnified, every accomplishment gets picked apart, and every other fanbase gets mad when you point it out. Oh well. Fuck em all I say!

Interesting how many usual tentpoles of championship winners this is going to break, both the 40 before 20 rule and the minimum eFG% threshold, which in conjunction have held true for the last 15-20 years.

I really don’t get trades like this without more future assets coming back. I can understand trading JB for pieces, but I struggle to see the incentive for a deal like this.

We do this, and immediately our largest concern becomes that we don’t have a number 2 option. We need a big and Camara would be awesome, but not having a reliable number 2 option deep into the playoffs is a much bigger problem than either of them solves. It’s also a much harder problem to solve and having a couple extra 1st round picks doesn’t do a ton to change that when other teams will put a lot more than that on the table for anyone who moves the needle.

I think Milwaukee would want more here too. It looks like a lot of teams are going to be hunting for stars this offseason after the runs from the Knicks and Pacers the past two seasons, I don’t think Milwaukee (or us honestly) will have a reason to settle for this unless Giannis refuses to go anywhere else. Ware’s an interesting player but even under Spo they’re not ecstatic about him for a reason, he’s got real issues with motor and effort which often don’t get solved.

Brunson is probably going to get FMVP off his clutch moments even though he’s been inefficient and carried for stretches by his role players. And you already know exactly what comes with that..the “Brunson is better than Tatum” discourse from r/nba and the national media. And even if KAT or anyone else wins, that doesn’t balance out Tatum not having one. Tatum is one of the most hated players so KAT winning FMVP will also be used as fuel to run the same bullshit narratives that Tatum was carried by Brown in 2024, Brunson is clutch and shows up when it matters and Tatum doesn’t, and Tatum is not a top 5 player.

The Knicks winning was always going to lead to the media and most non-Celtics fans using it to shit on Tatum and the 2024 title. That was inevitable. You’re the only Celtics fan I’ve seen root for this outcome. It obviously doesn’t matter what random fans think, but it’s still going to be really annoying watching Tatum get ripped to shreds after the Knicks win and Brunson gets his FMVP. Unfortunately since it’s the Knicks, the discourse will be everywhere and will be very loud and very obnoxious regardless of who wins MVP.

Most people around the league didn’t take them seriously because they were unproven. Even in those anonymous player polls, none of the players thought they had a real chance. They’ll have a target on their backs, and we’ve seen how difficult it is to repeat once you’re the team everyone is hunting. The Celtics, Nuggets, Bucks, and Thunder all found that out

A guy hasn’t won young as the best player since Larry in 81. But the Knicks have no MVP and no DPOY and weren’t historically dominant in the regular season. So this was always going to be a super confusing series to guess based on historical precedence.

Like the Celtics are the only team post 3 point line that had neither an MVP nor a DPOY, but we still had a legit top 5 player (Knicks have nothing close) and won 64 games with a +11.7 net rating. So this Knicks win would be the weirdest championship since the introduction of the three point line by a lot. Pistons were much more dominant in the regular season over an extended period of time and had a 4x DPOY in Ben Wallace.

Edit: won young as the best player *without an MVP teammate* - Tim Duncan won young and he was probably better than David, but still, had fucking David Robinson as a teammate.

I said it before the series, but NY winning should reframe the East > West debate.

This is 3 years in a row where the East has been severely underrated just because people like to parrot the weak East narrative.

The championship is in play, but right now San Antonio has to play a lot better if they want to avoid NY fans heralding Atlanta as their toughest matchup, the same way Boston did with Indiana in 2024.

This isn’t the Curry, Harden, Durant or Kawhi Western conference anymore.

The current teams aren’t nearly as dominant, and most of the Western Conference teams are very flawed.

1. Oklahoma - In theory a cut above the league, in practice they often look vulnerable.

2. San Antonio - A top 2-3 seed in the West and about on par with the top 2-3 seeds in the East.

3. Denver - Falling apart at the seams.

4. LA - Terrible roster construction.

5. Houston - Probably on par with the 2021-22 Nets who got swept in the 1st round.

6. Minnesota - Don’t excel in any single area.

7. Portland - Also ran.

8. Phoenix - Right now the Western Conference’s Miami Heat.

OKC is honestly the only reason we can’t outright say East > West this season.

It’s probably gonna be another sweep, maybe the Spurs win one but I don’t know. Keldon Johnson has been basically invisible this series.
