If we trade Jaylen Brown and it’s not for a top 5 player, then it’s going to be rough no matter what. It’ll likely be due to the fact that we can’t come to an agreement on an extension.

Using a trade as a proxy for another trade is obviously risky but I don’t mind doing it considering the sum of the parts should be at the highest value they’ll ever be for JB. When’s he having another season like this again?

This only makes sense if it’s effectively a three team deal, in that Brad has the next trade lined up to offload the Pelicans pieces. Murphy and Murray don’t make you better than JB does, and if you’re banking on picks to retool around then you’d be blowing up the whole team.

Im a firm staunch trade Jaylen Brown for a top 5 player in Giannis supporter. I am not a firm trade Jaylen Brown for younger players and flexibility guy yet, however with his extension coming up in a few years, its clear we may HAVE to do this move because paying 70 million a year to JB is not a good idea. I just dont know if I would make that move this year…. although it could set us up pretty good for the year after…. IDK, there are many tough decisions ahead for Brad with the new CBA and its effect on roster building including paying guys supermaxes when theyre not real superstars.

If we use the luxury tax as the “cap” instead of the salary cap, the Jay’s will make 57.5% of the “cap” next season. That’s doable.

I agree with the premise of his idea, which is why I think Poole makes much more sense than Murray. You take Murphy into the TPE to create another exception and Poole’s contract expires at the end of next season. That gives you 2 players that fit our needs while also giving you 2 pieces of flexibility (new TPE and offseason options with Poole’s expiring contract). All of this, of course, assuming the Pelicans are adding picks, as well.

This team has proven if you put enough talent *around* JB and JT they could get a chip. They need to focus on putting talent *around* them.

This is way too low. JB is a finals MVP coming off his best season, and his contract while high, runs 3 years during what should be the rest of his prime. His trade value is very high, just think of what Bridges and Bane fetched, JB is a much much better value.

Trey Murphy is a fine player, but the highest asset they should be looking to move off of to gets guys like that would be Derrick White.

Murray is not good, I’d rather have Herb despite his injury problems. The problem with this proposal is why would the Pelicans who don’t own a 2026 1st want JB when they’re nowhere near contention?

If we’re trading JB I don’t want another wing scorer like Trey Murphy I’d rather have a bigger PF like Lauri (elite off ball scorer/spacer) or a guard who can pressure the rim.

I’ve reached the point where if we trade JB, it has to be for Giannis. When healthy he produces at a rate that surpasses whatever we would get from a package of players. My only concern is that if we assume Neemias is still our 5, we’d be playing three out. Maybe another move would happen after that. I haven’t been this torn about an offseason is sometime. Ultimately I want to keep both Jays and figure out how to get better around the margins.
