Mitch loves Julian. He’ll be getting hunted on defense and he keeps him out there. Sometimes I wish he sits him in favor of Bryant but it’s worked out all playoffs so far to stick with him.

he’s really not a great passer at all. he gets assists purely off of dribble penetration and wemby’s rolls collapsing the defenses leaving shooters open
this, so many people can’t see the difference between passes off dribble penetration (Westbrook, fox, shai) vs truly being a gifted passer (Luka, trae, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd)
I love our team (minus fox lol) but castle/harper don’t look like they have that vision either. Harper did have some decent chemistry with Kornet on the PnR earlier this year but haven’t seen it in the playoffs

He wasn’t invisible. During his minutes he really shrank the court and pushed the offense to perimeter. The non-Wemby minutes Brunson & the Knicks attacked the paint relentlessly. The last 5 mins Brunson drove the bus home Wemby be damned

I don’t think either team shoots as poorly as they did on open looks again. Both teams did not shoot as well as they can and have these playoffs. Credit to both defenses too, especially to KAT on Wemby, I give more credit to KAT’s fantastic defense than Wemby’s offense, but a lot of open shots got missed this game.
Thing about Brunson is it doesn’t matter how many shots he has to throw up, hell always get his points and they’re always in the clutchest of moments.
I am genuinely curious as to why there are very few pick & roll or off-ball screen for Wemby to get lob passes. It seems to me that he is unstoppable in those alley oop plays as he can catch the ball from almost anywhere and all the opponent can do is foul him. I truly believe that Mitch hasn’t utilized Wemby to his full capabilities just yet.
They need to study Steph Draymond pick and roll like it’s their job

In middle PnR’s, everyone knows to cover Vic’s roll with a tag defender which is why they generate so many open corner/wing 3’s. Empty side PnR’s work much better though since the help defender has to cover more distance in order to contest Vic at the basket.
I agree though that off-ball screens for Vic have been sorely missed. Here’s a compilation of Vic scoring off of pindowns.. I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw them running these kinds if plays for Vic during the play-offs
I saw them run it one time tonight and vic missed it or tried doing a spin move when he got to the paint and they never went back to it. It was looking like his go to move and it’s been nowhere all playoffs.
Because they put a body (tag) on Wemby after the screen and he’s not strong enough (and probably will never be) to just ignore it and get a clean roll/lob. Any good NBA defense knows thar denying that lob pass is prio #1 against the Spurs

Hartenstein isn’t really a great one on one defender. In 2024, Embiid destroyed him the entire series. Robinson shut Embiid down until Embiid injured Robinson and then Hartenstein had zero answers for Embiid the whole time.
