Ironically too tall for the paint in certain matchups. Stronger centers can push him around because of his center of gravity. This is why he dominates Chet though, as Chet has the same frame as him, just a head shorter. It will be interesting to see how this plays out for both of them.
I actually do think the Spurs are such a terrible match up for the Thunder to the point they might have to change the way their team is built just to deal with the Spurs.

I like ihart but I was surprised to see that he was simply void of criticism in our sub despite being our second highest paid player, and calls for chet to be traded despite the fact that iHart was brought in to be the Steven adams bruiser type of center. He had 5 rebounds in that game 7 and was underwhelming in that category in all but games 3 and 5
Yeah, but I think a lot of it is on Mark in that regard. Game one Ihart barely played and we lost in OT. Then he ups Harts minutes a lot and we win the next 2. He lowers Harts minutes and we lost again. Something wasn’t right in the rotation, without stating the obvious Jdub and Ajay.

As a short guy I’ve been screaming this since he came into the league! These other centers have been huge their entire lives and just have no instinct on how to use their weight as wedge/leverage to get underneath someone who is a lot bigger than you. They are finally starting to catch on lol.
It helps also that Chet is one of the rare centers that Wemby can completely outmuscle.

KAT honestly might be the closest thing the league has to an anti-Wemby tbh. Best shooting big man of all time can sit outside the arc and draw Wemby out of the paint on offense (or has a mismatch on a smaller player if Wemby isn’t on him), and is big enough to stand his ground against him on defense.
Actual big man centers who have strength and can shoot are the best answer for Wemby. I think even Jokic matched up well with Wemby, the nuggets were 3-1 against the Spurs this season. But yeah the issue is good luck finding players like KAT and Jokic in the league lmao, both arguably in the current top 3 centers rn

Wemby is probably at 60% of his ceiling in the offensive end. He’s literally playing at the highest level competition right now, where you need to operate at 90%.
KAT has not been easy to score on in the paint
I was impressed with KAT. Strong enough to not let Wemby into his spots, fast enough to not let Wemby drive past him, and smart enough to anticipate Wemby’s moves.

This was what I always wondered about. Knicks players play physical and they’re strong. Kat, Mitch Rob, hart, OG. They all have enough to chest bump him off his paint buckets. Wemby doesn’t have a choice but to shoot outside shots
That’s what people complaining about him not going into the paint are missing. He physically cannot, he’s hounded by Hart and bumped all over by KAT who’s much stronger. Wemby gets banged too much because of his frail size and high center of gravity. He’d just get gassed within 2 quarters and thus has to play like KD without being as good a scorer.
Getting a hound-like physical forward like Hart or Draymond next to him would be a huge help imo but those don’t grow on trees.
Yeah Wemby is a solid, league average, 3 point shooter. Which is really good for a center. However if you’re playing him you should be happy any time he shoots a 3 because that mean’s he isn’t inside getting free rebounds and put-backs where he would be much more valuable for the Spurs on offense.

No, he has no moves or post game intuition. Ralph Sampson was his size and build and he did not get bullied and completely neutralized when trying to receive the ball in the paint. It’s called lowering your hips and loading up.

Wembys a great player. I don’t think he’s a give him the ball and let him create every time down player though (and it feels the Spurs get stuck on this too much).
He comes off as a super duper charged AD to me in that he can get you 30 nightly but I think you need a 1A to his 1B to unlock the whole offense and get your best version of his offense.
