At the end of the day, if we’re filtering images and videos, that’s doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The goal isn’t perfect detection—it’s maintaining a reasonable standard without creating a weird atmosphere where every slightly polished paragraph gets put on trial. And honestly, that’s the goal. 😎

It gets fairly ridiculous with some people on the sub. My writing style doesn’t really sound anything like AI, but every now and then I’ll type out a long post or comment about sports history, and baseless AI accusations are sure to follow.

Do people even post AI images and videos? I cannot recall an image being a standalone post and videos are basically always from official broadcasts with a few camera phone/social media videos.

There’s so many times now someone responds to me, and they’re just talking about something completely different than what the thread is about or I said. The combination of bots, and decline in real people’s reading comprehension have made having a conversation here almost impossible. The site feels drastically worse than even five years ago imo

Been on here since 2008 bots are a huge problem but the real problem is that reddit got mainstream, that just means that the overall quality just went WAY down because it got flooded with complete morons. Quality was already way down before AI.

It definitely was completely different 10-15 years ago, but a big part of that is due to reddit the company and its policies, and another big part is due to the way internet culture has changed. It used to be so much more text post heavy, now it might as well just be instagram with a more well formatted comment section.

It’s wild how people/bots are so easily able to manipulate Reddit now. It’s so much different.

Also I love when people still act like Reddit is some niche news aggregator. It’s just as mainstream as other social media and it’s going to be monetized by bots and used for propaganda.

Some smaller subs don’t feel like they’ve been taken over but most over 100k subs definitely feel that way.

There was a time in this country, a long time ago, when reading wasn’t just for f*** and neither was writing. People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting, and I believe that time can come again!

Banning twitter made this community objectively a little worse. I can live with that if it was truly about standing up for values, but…after they shut down the sub in the middle of the finals for a performative act, and the mods kept using it and posting it? I don’t believe it. There no way that reads as anything other than performative- “YOU ALL deal with a shut down subreddit because I need a protest, but we’ll be in the PGT I have takes to get off”.
