Watch ‘99 Finals in advance of the upcoming series
https://www.nba.com/watch/list/collection/1999-nba-finals-spurs-vs-knicks
I love how the league has made these available. Not all leagues care as much for preserving their history.
I hate how there is no scoreboard lol
Training your attention span by tracking the score on a piece of paper
NBC didn’t bother until the XFL. And even then it probably wasn’t an NBC decision
Wasn’t it a gentleman’s sweep too?
Well, it does appear at the beginning of each attack. Screen real estate was scarce back then.
no thanks. 9 year old me suffered enough watching it when it happened
thank god i was only 5 and barely sentient
6 for me. I was far more concerned about watching Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, Rocko’s Modern Life and WCW
think it was pokémon for me and whatever was playing on disney channel
So you were born in 94 the first finals loss to Houston. I think we safely say you are the reason and you need to sacrifice yourself to right the timeline
uhhhh wait a min now
All due respect but wasn’t the writin on the wall when Ewing was out ?
I was 9. I cared way more about Marcus Camby than Ewing at the time. I barely even knew who Tim Duncan was.
You learned about him, then and the next 15 years.
sound like ur folks didn’t raise u right as a NYorker 😂
Why would you say that? Marcus Camby was the starting center that year and much more impactful than Ewing was during the playoffs. Larry Johnson was the hero the previous series also. Patrick Ewing was barely a thought.
Cuz u disrespecting a Knick legend
I was 9?
Yh Respekt ur elders
The irony here is that mlavan is probably like 10+ years older than you.
okay and he shittin on Ewing
lmao dumbass
I heard about how the Spurs were rolling over everyone and I thought at the time we weren’t winning it all.
How did u beat the pacers
Considering that’s the only time we’ve beaten the Pacers in the playoffs since 1994 I have no clue
Some of us fooled ourselves into believing. The whole run seemed so magical that it felt like anything was possible.
But reality hit us pretty hard vs Duncan and the Admiral.
If your team makes it to the finals it’s pretty hard not to believe just a little bit
Like the heat 23
The team played better without him that season
Damn his knees musta been cooked
I was at Game 5. Still have the rally towel in the rag bin.
Has it been washed?
The video quality is really bad. The anti aliasing effect to try to make it sharp just makes everything look jagged. The FT & 3 pt lines look like steps rather than a straight line & arch, respectively.
It would be easier on the eyes to accept some fuzziness or blur effect to make everything look smoother
I hate how any game before like 2012 is awful quality. Especially compared to other sports, where yeah older games can be grainy, but you can make out what’s happening. Its like every NBA game was recorded in VHS then duplicated on another VHS 500 times before digitizing.
It’s actually crazy how much standing around every player did back then. No wonder minutes per game have decreased so much in recent years.
Every sport advances, and basketball is among the top few on how much. It’s unreasonable to argue that the game was better back then - it could not be. But you can take every era at its own terms and enjoy as such. It’s also good to actually watch these games to effectively dismiss the old talking heads that extol the virtues of the 90s over the modern game (speaking as someone who started watching while Magic and Bird were still playing).
To be fair, there is also the issue of illegal defense rules which limited the defensive mobility / help schemes back then.
I implore you to watch Chris Dudley shoot free throws if you think Mitch is bad
Then came Ben Wallace. 😄
No
This is great but the NBA loathes its own history, it is institutionally buried because Stern didn’t want to pay pensions to the founders. And that hatred has been taken up by the fans.
The pension problem is about ABA players who are slowly dying out now, not about members of the 99 squads. Lmao
earlier history
Right, that has nothing to do with the topic at hand
Just watch games 3-5. the games in San Antonio wasn’t that good. The games in New York are dope, and the crowd is going crazy.
