2018 LeBron is not his best playoff run and it’s not mentioned enough how ignored his 2009 playoff run is.
2018 is his most skilled offensive run and he had a far more versatile game but his sheer dominance in the 2009 run is ridiculous from every standpoint.
in 2018 he averaged 34 points, 9 assists, 9.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals and a block per game on 61.9 TS% (+6.3 relativeTS%) and 4.3 turnovers
-
in 2009 he averaged 35.3 points, 7.3 assists, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 0.9 blocks per game on 61.8 TS% (+7.4 relativeTS%) and 2.7 turnovers
he did this following a regular season where his team won 66 games, he won MVP and was 2nd in DPOY voting.
-
in the 1st round he swept the Pistons averaging 32/11/7, 1.5 steals and a block on 62.2 TS%(+7.8 relativeTS%) this is Jokic/Jordan level offensive dominance while also being the DPOY runnerup
-
in the 2nd round he swept the Hawks averaging 34/8/6, 2.5 steals and 0.5 blocks on 66.7 TS% (+12.3 relativeTS%!!!!) and 1.7 turnovers per game. This might be the most perfect series of his career in general he was unstoppable.
-
in the 3rd round he eventually lost to the Magic who simply outplayed the rest of his team. But his numbers were still ridiculous and he got them vs the 1st ranked defense led by the DPOY winner Dwight Howard who’s also arguably the best defender of the decade.
he averaged 38/8/8, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks on 59.1 TS% (+4.7 relative TS%) he had some issues with turnovers at 4.2 per game but the impact he had was still utterly ridiculous. He had a Jordan esque 35+ points on +4 TS% level of efficiency level series and hit a major game winner vs them.
-
he even opened game 1 vs them with an absurd 49 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers at 71.2 TS% (+16.8 relativeTS%) and his team somehow lost them this game. And he had a massive game 2 game winner.
-
This run also holds the record for highest single postseason box plus minus (BPM) ever at +17.53, the runnerup is 1991 Michael Jordan with a +14.63 score.
i would argue this is the single most impactful run in NBA history overall, we’ve never seen a player look this superhuman/unstoppable on offense/defense like that before or since.
