[Highlight] Luke Kornet chases down Isaiah Hartenstein
This really was the biggest play of the game. Thunder were making a comeback. Wemby had five fouls. Kornet came in for, like, 90 seconds and completely shifted the game’s momentum back to the Spurs. Not by scoring, but by playing great defense and buying the superstar a few minutes of rest.
Shut the building down
Shut Manhattan down
The series hasnt started yet bro.
Nah he right im clenched tight
And it’s also the least expected, was genuinely surprised when seeing it happen
My jaw was on the floor
This one took the cake! Stunning block!
That said, there were so many amazing basketball plays in an an absolute classic of a game.
They didn’t even show the replay on some these because they just kept coming at such a high rate.
Despite two blowouts, there was so much high level basketball this series. Definitely the best overall ball this postseason
For me this was a top5 series of the past decade at least. The intensity, level of play on both ends, and seeing two of the best individual players in the world go against each other. We are very lucky to have witnessed this.
Man the finals last year was kinda even better but ultimately ruined by the Hali injury.
Are you serious or just want karma
Harper having to have a cuddle with Castle to calm him down and prevent a fight was my favorite part though.
Ssshh, it’s okay bud, ssshhh, relax. We’re just gonna move on after that RKO. Happy thoughts bud.
There had been a number of fans ready to run Kornet and Keldon out of town, so it was incredibly satisfying to see them both come up big in game 7.
Those are just a few loud redditors. Both KJ and Kornet are beloved by most Spurs fans. They were just bad this series but they are still good players. And they are both quality locker room guys.
I was seething before that chase down because the Thunders made a 7-0 run through free throws alone, with 3 coming from Shai’s foul bait.
Yeah. 14 point lead got cut to 7, from free throws. I was sick.
It’s literally the Dragon Ball Z NBA equivalent of Goku needing 1 minute of rest and Vegeta saying if he can’t last one lousy minute then he doesn’t deserve to survive.
This is why they’ll be champions. I can’t wait to see Kornet block KAT and hear him whine “Oh my Gawd!”
“Baaaaaaaaad boyyyy”
Tears in my eyes, a Luke Kornet highlight will be remembered for all of NBA history
When the Kornets loose you may just get stung
That’s so Korney
This is the Robinson vs Kornet finals. Former teammates turned foes.
Hey San Antonio, i’m not super familiar with mariachi music. What kind of horns do they use again? Is it trumpets? Or Kornets?
Only if the Spurs win it all, realistically.
Never thought he would top the Birdman celebration
No one will ever think about it again in 3 months lol
Spurs and Wemby fans absolutely will
The absolute most diehard 1% sure . With spurs fans . That’s about 5000people in the world
Lol ok
Not everyday you will see 2 bigs run their hardest and meet at the top. That was physical
Peak playoff basketball
That’s what you’re supposed to do deep in playoffs.
It’s why I went from a Luka fan to a hater after seeing him playing 0 defense and effort in his 1 finals appearance where he got Mollywhopped
I never seen a guy give less effort. It’s the finals gotta get stuck in willing to get hurt for every loose ball. That’s why guys with a motor make everyone around them better and stats like DeRozan don’t mean a dam thing come winning time.
Luka was hobbled as fuck, he took a lot of beating on the way to the finals(FU Lu Dort). He still had to carry the team offensively, especially since Kyrie went invisible. He could’ve done better, but he had to carry that a team a lot that season, especially when Kyrie was out due to injuries.
Don’t matter and always an excuse for Luka. Always some bs injury
He got dominated by no Aura Tatum. A dead 76ers team just beat a roughly that same team down 3-1 hehe.
Only man who gets praised for losing in a finals once while playing awful.
Edit Luka fans are a special breed of nuts. Dude blocked me lol. I’ve never seen such a sensitive group of fanboys in my life. It’s actually pure comedy
There are legitimate criticisms about Luka, but you are just spouting BS.
10d old account, I ain’t arguing with a burner. Bye.
Luka was bleeding from his knees every game.
FOH nephew
lol the celtics were not “roughly that same team” whatsoever, the roster was gutted by financial moves and their best player’s achilles exploded, those seem like pretty different teams to me
some people will say anything
“Always some bs injury” as luka gets pain reduction knee injections in g2, g3, and g4 for the blood gushing out of his knees all playoffs that was visible through his compression
Bait used to be belivable
Kornet wants revenge vs the Knicks for last year.
That’s our Korndawg
Please, he’s the Unikornet
LeKornet James
Big Lukeem Olajuwon 💪🏽
Would’ve made it a 4 point game 97-93 Spurs with all the momentum on OKC. What a block.
Yeah and then Spurs scored going back the other way to push the lead to 8. Huge momentum swing on that play alone.
3rd year player saying he’s proud of his 9 year vet is kind of funny
NBA champion, too. xD
Wemby’s the obvious leader of the team, kornet has experience but wemby is the better player already
wemby is the better player already
Big call that
This series finally proved that Wemby is better the Kornet. Took long enough.
What a bold statement
I mean there’s a reason why Wemby is the star of the team and kornet is his back up, nothing against him I’m actually a fan and grateful for everything he does for the team but even Stevie Wonder can see it.
love kornet tho bc he knows he’s a damn good backup and does his role perfectly
I will always upvote commentary in other languages with hyped broadcasters. Those broadcasters probably get paid at least decent wages now, but many did it for a long time for probably not a lot. That takes a true love of the game, and you can feel it in any language.
I agree 100%. The one from this post is from Brasil, Rômulo Mendonça, he’s great!
Butterfly effect if that didn’t happen, OKC goes on a run and wins
Ooo we all seen how the tempo was slightly shifting to what could have been a tighter game but my BOYY LuTumbo said hold my 🍺 😂😂😂
Yeah fr seeing that live, it just felt like that was their last real shot at making a comeback and LuTumbo shut it down.
Dude must be a Spurs legend already
Luke Kornet - “I guess we’ll never know”
I was so pissed at that sloppy pass that I almost lost hope expecting an easy transition point for OKC and the momentum until fking Luke Skywalker Kornet shut Hartenstein’s dunk attempt out of nowhere. I will forever cherish this play.
The Kornet Contest just evolved into a full blown chase down block. League is officially on notice.
Luke Kornet saved basketball
kornet hit all ball and not the shooting hand - even with ihart trying to push him off with the other hand
LeKornet with the real KornetKontest
Thanks for posting this, btw. The other clips of the play (at least the ones I saw posted) didn’t feature any replays. Which is wild because who doesn’t love seeing a great block in slow-mo from multiple angles?
Crazy. If I-Hart goes with 2 hands instead of trying to shield he probably gets the foul. Luke running back so hard made Hart adjust and opened himself up to get stuffed
New Kornet Kontest drop
This should be a new “Kornet Kontest”
Stephon Castle’s hair said: Tell him it was me.
Hartenstein has to sit out a couple cookouts after that
Aye when did we pick up LeBron? 🤔 #LeKornet #LuBron 😂
Silly Thunder Floppers.
Run wide Wallace..
You heard of the Kornet contest now check this
May he fly forever high
I knew any chance the Thunder had to come back ended right there.
Seeing a big man sprint full speed on a chase down block will never stop being one of the most hype plays in basketball. 🔥🏀
Crazy they were both Knicks
King Korn don’t play that
THE Korner Contest
Controversial take: Chase down blocks are the most overrated defensive play that there is. They don’t require some crazy amount of skill and many times benefit from surprise. That said, this was a huge moment in this game which had a huge impact.
If you aren’t a chasedown artist, this is what your posts look like.
lol, chasedown artist. You have to be a LeBron stan.
Can someone explain why this isn’t a foul?
There’s no contact on Luke’s part? He got all ball. Hartenstein even threw his arm out at Luke.
does the contact need to be on the arm for it to be a foul? bc there’s obviously some body contact but idk when that’s a foul or not
That’s considered incidental contact, it doesn’t affect the shot or disadvantage the shooter. The refs ignored Hartenstein’s arm too, which could have been an offensive foul but they let it go.
that makes sense
How is it possibly incidental? His whole body hits hartensteins?
If I ran into you at that speed like that whilst you were shooting, do you believe it wouldn’t affect your shot? Hartenstein is going for a dunk - are you saying kornet jumping his body into hartenstein isn’t taking him off the line of attack?
Watch the whole clip. Kornet is running in a straight line towards the basket. Hartenstein is going for the dunk from the wing. Kornet doesn’t jump into Hartenstein.
To be fair that’s completely wrong by the written rules. If a defender lands in a different spot than where he took off it’s illegal guarding position. Body contact in illegal guarding position in a defensive foul. It does affect the shot as Hart’s momentum is stopped by the body contact allowing Kornet more time to block. By the book this is a foul on Kornet for hitting Hart midair while jumping non-vertically.
Of course by what’s actually called you’re correct, this is often called incidental. Just ridiculous that what’s called in game is not at all what’s written
Look at when he jumps. Is he jumping towards the basket?
Absolutely not. His right arm and body are a foot and a half to the side of the basket.
Okay there’s no point in litigating this. I told you the basis of the call. What you do with it is up to you.
No. You stated something that is not true. I pointed out to you that it is not true with evidence (where he ends up on the backboard AFTER getting pushed towards the basket by hartenstein so he was jumping to a point even further from the basket).
Kornet is not in a legal guarding position and jumps into hartenstein.
Look, this is a rule of cool call. It was a foul by the nbas rules that they didn’t call. That’s fine, but please don’t insult everyone’s intelligence by trying to claim that this wasn’t a foul.
It’s not a foul. You’re literally the only one arguing that it is.
Have a good day.
That’s a fair question, not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I’ve played a lot of pickup where that’s a foul. The order of events here is
Because 2 happened, 3 is considered incidental. After a block, the rules basically consider two colliding bodies neutral. Chet is no longer a shooter, and his trajectory in the air just happens to meet Luke’s trajectory. Obviously Luke still can’t punch Chet in the face or anything, but he is cleanly extended upwards.
I believe even if 2 & 3 happen simultaneously, that’s not a foul. If 3 happens before 2, that should be a foul. Sadly it’s not always called, but given all the benefits the refs give the offensive player these days, it’s not the worst miscarriage of justice.
Their bodies colide before kornet touches the ball. I also don’t think that a clean block somehow absolves all other contact.
It can only be considered incidental contact if Luke kornet is in legal guarding position which he can only maintain by leaping vertically or slightly away to absorb contact which doesn’t occur here. (These are the rules as per NBA rulebook).
I can definitely accept the argument that hartenstein commits an offensive foul by using his left hand like that (though this is how every single contested layup/dunk is played by the offensive player).
PS this is Isaiah hartenstein, not Chet holmgren.
