AJ Dybantsa says Trae Young will have to come off number 3 if he gets drafted to the Wizards: “If they draft me, I do need #3, Trae. If they draft me. We’re gonna see in like 5 weeks.”
Trae you gonna let rook do you like that??? 👀
I don’t get into NBA drama nearly as much as I did like 5 to 10 years ago, but this is actually kinda spicy and has me interested to see how it plays out haha
I know, right. Kinda a big statement to make to an all-star guard. Even funnier when you think about AD also wearing #3 for the Lakers & Mavs recently. If anyone was gonna ask for it, it’s him…
The should have AD, Trae and AJ all wear number 3 but different sizes. AD can be big 3, AJ middle 3 and Trae little 3.
Refs can easily signal a foul on Trae by pinching their fingers almost together before signalling 3, to signify little 3
If^when AD gets injured, does AJ get upgraded to the big 3? 🤔
Put AD as the name in the shirt and they can flip flop between the grades, whenever they want
AD can be 3^3 (27), Dybantsa 3^2 (9) and Trae 3^1 (3). Or drop all the exponents by 1 and have 9 -> 3 -> 1
Just do a Zamorano, wear 12 with a little + inbetween the 1 and 2
Yeah, yeah, right, look, they don’t understand all that math you talkin, so they’re gonna take that as a sign of disrespect
Trae should have a superscript 3.
I’d imagine that AD would switch back to 23 regardless, although apparently no Wizard has worn 23 since MJ lol
Yeah but, all teams retired the #23 jersey, that’s why Miami did it right ?
Only the Bulls and Miami for some weird reason retired his number lol I think Miami thought every team was gunna follow their lead and nobody else did it
Yeah, I know lol it’s a joke about it
There’s four players that have worn 45 for the bulls since Jordan. All bums, Denzel Valentine being the best one.
https://youtu.be/2VobiPkMJSY?si=dD2rK_f6RoGzYTTF
Best to ever wear it
LOL
I’d imagine that AD would switch back to 23
This was reported in February that AD would wear #23.
It’s already official on the NBA website.
Ah, I checked the Wizards roster on basketball-reference and they didn’t have a number listed for him, thanks
He might have just hurt his draft stock. Nobody wants an entitled diva, he’ll probably jack up a bunch of bad shots, not play defense, etc. His attitude says a lot about him.
If he wants to go to the Jazz then we’re about to see some more self-sabotaging!
This has already been part of the discourse around him. He shoots a lot of middies and doesn’t play defense. Can you really build a contender around this guy?
Sounds like they’re just playing around. If he gets traded there nobody’s switching numbers for a rook.
Idk man, I don’t think most people say something like that if they don’t mean it. Maybe play it off afterwards if it doesn’t go well, but mean it in the moment type of thing.
Nothing said on Gil’s podcast is serious
I mean I don’t think he’s actually going to throw a fit if Trae doesn’t give up #3, I think people are taking the clip a bit too seriously
I have a feeling he’s just trying to warn the Wizards that if they draft him there will be drama.
This is so dumb cause Trae will single-handedly raise AJ’s ppg by like six points just by serving him up easy looks with his passes, AJ should be raring to play with Trae not starting pre-draft beef lol.
I knew I liked Tatum the moment he yielded #11 to Kyrie Irving as a rookie without any push-back
Not anymore
What do you mean not anymore? Trae’s scoring has declined but he’s still a top 3 passer in the league (and he’s not 3)
I meant that Trae is going to ice him out now that AJ’s gunning for his number. Was a joke brother.
Whoops! Comment retracted. Now I have an image in my head of Trae throwing a pass through AJ’s legs to Tre Johnson over and over lol
All good!
Before the injuries, and minute restrictions they both had this year, there was a stat showing Tatum and Trae were the only players who had increased their APG every single season.
For Tatum, it was always a good stat to show his growth into a hyper-versatile point forward. For Trae, it was insane because he started off quite high.
Seeing an increase every year over 7 years when you had 8.1 as a rookie is nuts.
bro really believes in himself, isn’t lacking in confidence for sure
This dude is gonna get humbled so fucking quick lol
This has Anthony Richardson the NFL is easy vibes.
Except everyone, even UF fans, were puzzled at how he was drafted so high.
Dybantsa is being similarly cocky, but everyone can clearly see how he’s probably going to be the #1 pick
was very easy to tell who watched Richardson play a lot in college lol.
Spoiler, he didn’t play a lot in college (I am a Colts fan lol)
A lot as in more than once or twice
Sad Colts fan noises 😞
The Colts certainly didn’t.
I watch a lot of college football and I’m ALWAYS wrong about which guys are going to be good in the NFL.
But not AR lol
I’m pretty much the opposite. Watch waaay more college than nfl, usually know amongst all the big names who’s got it for Sunday’s and who doesn’t. My big miss was I thought Herbet was gonna be trash. Boy was I wrong on that one
The UF fans in the r/NFL draft thread were like “why?” when he was drafted
Oh yeah for sure. Different sport. At worst AJ will be Harrison Barnes. It’s just a little too cocky when you’ve got zero NBA minutes. Like I’m not the biggest Trae fan but he’s got skins on the wall. Show a little respect. He’s talking like Trae is Kent Bazemore
Bazemore : what he say fuck me for
You watched him play. He deserves any ill will any Lakers fan has for him.
Harrison Barnes who doesn’t realize he’s Harrison Barnes is a terrible player
So Jerry Stackhouse? Lol
winner
It was pretty obviously a bet that he could be another Josh Allen where you take the uber talented guy and hope you can coach the rest into him. He obviously didn’t work out as well but it wasn’t exactly a confusing decision to understand.
The big thing they always miss with the Josh Allen types is he’s one of the few that got very little real QB coaching until the pros.
Richardson went to all the QB camps and had real QB coaches in college.
There’s a difference between raw and not learning when given the opportunity and it’s kind of fascinating that these decision makers ignore that.
yeah Allen was still pretty much a ball of clay. he didn’t have a lot of deeply ingrained mechanical bad habits to unwind. that’s probably the reason he was able to develop accuracy at the pro level
Josh Allen is the exception to the rule. Name one other prospect like Allen who turned out to be a top tier QB. His accuracy change from college to NFL is pretty much unparalleled.
Josh Allen has and will get many GMs fired
Why you talking to bro like he drafted AR lmao
Josh Allen in college looked a lot better than Richardson when you consider the resources they had. I watched Richardson on QB1 and from day 1 I said “this is a guy who plays because he’s under athletic not because he truly loves the game.”
One of the most out of context quotes ever. People don’t even care what the original quote fully was. Just cause he’s been terrible and a bust, it’ll never matter.
He meant that considering the rest of the players in the nfl are so much better (as in his teammates), it can be easier than college
I watched the full quote. I get what he meant and AJ doesn’t mean any disrespect here either but the optics are poor. It’s just a wee bit lacking in respect to your elders. That’s all.
Eh Anthony Edwards came in even cockier when he entered the league
If he’s as good a Ant it won’t be an issue
Sure but we didn’t know that either when Ant was drafted
Ant is and always has been joking around. Like yeah, he is very confident, but the cockiness part always came off as a joke to me. It’s not like he’s Richard Sherman. I kind of get the same vibe from dybantsa
It seems to me he’s clearly joking here I don’t think it’s that deep
I mean, you can see how he changed tones when he pitched himself(nice pitch, btw). To me, he’s clearly joking as well.
If you actually look at all of his press and not just a couple of clips you’d realize he’s probably the most humble first pick I’ve ever seen
How would anybody know the first picks you’ve ever seen?
Even in this same clip he talks about the challenges of trying to guard centers and how that’s something he’ll be working on. Sounds pretty humble to me.
What exactly makes him more humble than recent top picks like Wemby, Flagg, Rishacher, and Cunningham?
Risacher is definitely the most humble, like two weeks into his career he had a quote about how all these NBA guys were way more athletic than him lol
Probably not a great sign in retrospect
More than Antony Bennett??
I might be wrong, but I remember Fultz thinking that he was gonna win MVP in his rookie year and shit lol
Heaven forbid an incoming rookie be confident.
There’s a big jump from confidence in your self to the delusion of thinking you’d be the first Rookie to win MVP
These pre draft interviews has shown me he has way more of a personality than I expected lol.
Bro might be a slight crash out lol.
When “the guy” enters a league full of guys who have been “the guy” their entire life
He don’t know the rookie hazing he just unlocked himself.
lol does that exist for the number 1 pick joining a tanking team
he’ll get the usual popcorn in the car
they traded for trae and AD how are they tanking
Lol
You just answered your own question lol
Nah honestly if they can both stay healthy that’ll be a pretty good team. Not sure I’ve ever heard a bigger IF that that one though.
The Wizards will be in the play-in even if AD just plays 50~ games.
In fact the Wizards are one of those teams that will benefit the most from the new draft changes.
> if AD can stay healthy
Lololol
Its the Wizards.
Oh bother
This isn’t year 2001
He’ll be a 1st overall pick and doesn’t have Shaq on his team to shit in his shoes
Rookie hazing lol, they’ll do pop corn in his car or like leave him with a big ass bill
not even. Kenyon Martin said they tried to rookie haze him, and he just told them he’s the number 1 pick, and that was 2000. Now Kenyon’s definitely more dramatic than an average player telling the story but ain’t no number 1 picks are ever getting hazed.
I mean Kenyon Martin was also Kenyon Martin though, bro was let’s just say not the nicest so i bet they were just like yeah let’s leave him alone
lmfao this kid is not kenyon, kenyon always been a grumpy old man even in college
Doing everything he can to avoid the Wiz drafting him?
The reverse Ace Bailey plan fully in motion: make yourself so unappealing to Washington that you fall directly into Utah’s lap.
If he was the reverse Ace Bailey he’d still end up in DC though…
it’s not like Utah’s 3 is vacant either
Yeah but he clearly respects Utah Jazz and NBA legend Keyonte George
Ryan Smith would give Keyonte George some no show publicity deal if it meant keeping his baby boy AJ happy
AJ would just have to plant a bunch of trees Mormons
It’s low-key kinda stupid rn. They are building something promising imo
it’s understandable, outside of the wall years (that never really amounted to much) we’ve been ass for far longer than he’s been alive. Hopefully they’ll start changing that perception pretty soon
I think y’all have a really interesting Young core rn. Johnson had a solid rookie year sarr got better offensively and defensively, kyshawn was shooting better this season, and now the first pick in a stacked class. Add Trae young to the mix and I think something can happen here. I hope everything work out well
You could argue the same for the Jazz
We’re not not drafting him becuase of Trae young lol.
It’s more like you can tell he’s pretty immature from the interview.
Bad look appearing in a podcast, acting pretty egoistically and already dissing potential teammates.
I remember these exact same comments when Ant was being drafted lol
Ant didn’t get his number either
And neither will AJ
Eventually he outlasted Kyle
Kyle traded with him before he left - took a few years tho still
Ant different 🔥🤣
This is revisionist people did not like Ant’s cockiness when he came out of college. There were concerns with his ego and his lack of love for basketball since he was very open about not watching as much film on basketball since he preferred football.
That was the internet’s very first introduction to Ant Edwards - a pre-draft article where the author quoted him saying that he loved football over basketball or something.
Then 2-3 PUBLIC interviews later, folks are well aware that Anthony Edwards simply talks like that 24⁄7 and doesn’t mean anything by it. He will tell you he will beat Bruce Lee in martial arts if you let him open his mouth.
Well that’s pretty easy because Bruce Lee is dead
Maybe he’s shit talking so he can move down a spot
You really think this guy is playing 3D chess?
We’ve seen weirder
Ya tbh and I’m a wiz fan. But we still gonna get him or DP
“It’s very important [that I go #1]. I’ve been number one since my first rankings came out. ESPN ranked me number one in ninth grade. I was like 14, and I ain’t drop. So I don’t plan on dropping in the draft.”
-AJ Dybantsa five days ago, on how important it is to him to go #1.
Fr cannot believe some people think this dude is some sort of big brain genius gaming the draft after watching any of his interviews
Utah’s number 3 is taken as well
Jazz will probably murder Keyonte George to free up the number so AJ can take it.
Ryan Smith would literally stab Key all by himself if it meant we got AJ.
Or he’d just give Key an endorsement deal with Qualtrics
Wizards deserve purgatory for another 20 years if they pass on AJ cause of a fucking number dispute with Trae young 😭
Trae ain’t no bum. AJ you can take #33
Facts. You can believe Trae Young is a bum because he’s tiny and is food on defense. But there’s no disrespecting his skill.
He’s a pound for pound top player in this league, and I’d put his basketball genius only 1 step below the Luka/Lebron/Jokic/Curry tier.
Idk if I can blame him when all time instigator Gilbert Arenas is in the room lol
Gilbert Arenas loves Trae though tbf, he’s always talked him up
Not as much as he generally loves stirring shit up. He’s starting the #3 stuff at the beginning of the clip
Despite the media sometimes saying otherwise, Trae is a good teammate. He’s literally the reason we got NAW. He recruited him hard. I imagine Trae will give it to him if he really wants it.
Bruh there’s no way this happens, nobody deserves to be number 3 more than the dude who’s name is another word for three
Should make him earn it for next year. Something like he wins ROY then it’s his.
Another common Trae Young assist
I’m so ready for Trae redemption arc.
Why would he need a redemption arc? He’s been nice throughout his career on and off the court.
beef before hes even drafted?
Bring on the beef! We men need our sweet, sweet drama.
His name is literally Trae
Exactly😂not coming up off that
He’s fully aware that teams were dying on the court this past season just to get the chance to draft him
Maybe I don’t pay enough attention to draft stuff, but I didn’t think people were considering him the unanimous 1st pick for most of the season. I thought Boozer or Peterson were talked about more as the top pick until recently.
I don’t watch college basically at all though, just to be clear. So if I sound like a moron, it’s because I am one lol.
He was definitely talked about more than Boozer. I’d say Peterson was considered more likely to go 1 early but Dybantsa has been a lot more lately
He’s been considered the first overall pick this year for like 3 years, he’s discussed less because it’s not a new topic. Boozer and DP produced very well but AJ is 6’9 barefoot with a 42” vert, elite footwork, and averaged 26ppg, I would be extremely surprised if he didn’t go first
Oh wow, ok. Well in my defense, I did say that I am a moron.
Morons are rarely self-aware, so maybe not
Teams were dying on the court in a year when Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr were top prospects
NBA teams tank at any given chance he isn’t special
He’s not even been unanimous as a 1st overall this entire time either
Aj to wizards. “I am the captain now.”
I rly dont like this kid. His interviews screams entitled. He is such a rare athlete and genetic freak… he is going to be an elite athlete off the bat… but damn. He needs to get humbled.
He’s overrated and you’ll see he’ll be solid but can’t shoot and bad defender
He’s a Flopper to the highest degree. People gonna turn on him so quick lol
Yea I don’t like this guy, he’s got a lot of holes in his game. If he sees himself so highly like this, and other comments, it’s unlikely he’s going to change his game for whats needed to be a star
I feel like choosing to go on Gil’s show is a choice in itself for a prospect, ngl.
You are making crazy assumptions just based off a clip lol
Look at his comments about his team after they got bounced in the first round.
Or his comments about averaging 30.
He’s got a lot to work on, can’t come to a team with stars with a big ego, because he’s not going to be the star for the first couple of years.
Sounded like he was just messing around bruh
Did you listen to him? He admitted faults in his game and said he struggles with guarding the 5. He comes across as confident while still being aware he needs to grow. This is exactly the kid I want to invest in because he’s skilled and knows where to improve
Is Omar cooper advising AJ Dybantsa?
This guy better back it up
I hate rookies with demands. Come in and prove you can do something first.
VJ Edgecombe was number 7 and let Kyle Lowry keep 7 and Lowry didn’t play a minute all year but out of respect went with 77
Little stuff like this matters for a team
VJ is also not a complete dumb ah douchebag like Dybantsa is, this kid is already full of himself lol he gone be humbled real fast
I DON’T LIKE THIS!!! He is so damn up his own ass bruh…. Everything I’ve seen of his is just unlikable… Good luck to that franchise
No different than how ant acted
I’ll be honest, a rookie requesting a number from the star player is wild stuff.
I can’t really see Trae being offended by this, is #3 sentimental to him? He wore 11 his entire time with the Hawks, but had to go for 3 because 11 was already retired in the Wizards.
I mean it’s a diss no matter how you slice it
Trae is the bet and leader for the wizards. He isn’t going to let a 19 year old rookie take his number
AJ chill out man lol
He also recently said Trae was “an all-star, I think.”
Rook will have to settle for 33. You can’t come in here demanding things when you haven’t proven yourself lol
Nba gonna shame this kid.
Usually how these number disputes seem to go in the pros is by buying it. So I wouldn’t be shocked if Trae made AJ pay him for #3 if he wants it that bad. U hear stories all the time about that.
AJ already saying shit on podcasts. He’s gonna fit right in to the nba
Ooo, thats not the best start…..Trae is a vet, an all-star, highest paid guy on the team. Aj could be the number 1 pick, but hes still a rookie and hasnt done shit in the league.
he’s just trying to make sure the wizards don’t pick him lol he wants to come home to utah
His home is Massachusetts and our GM has known him since he was 14
Trae can’t wear 11 on the Wizards?
Retired already by Washington
In the rafters for Elvin Hayes
The hazing he’s about to receive
“Please don’t draft me”
Welcome to the Wizards #33
Buddy hasn’t even been drafted yet and already making demands is crazy.
The price just went up tremendously.
Who’s got 11 on the wiz?
Retired
TY can’t just take that shit from a rookie lol
Wizards finally have the first pick and drama already happening 😭 and all this over a jersey number
What if he turns out a bust? I will return to this video if that happens
RemindMe! 3 years
He’s got moxie for his size.
Whodat disrespectin’ my boy Trae?!
The arrogance.
Play me for it beeotch
This kid has too big of an ego he’s gonna get humbled once he gets to the nba
He comes off as an entitled douche in interviews
I already dislike this kid
He’s friends with Keyonte, so I think Key gets to keep 3 if AJ gets drafted to the Jazz.
This guy will just be another good iso player who won’t win. The next Paulo
This comment is so wrong on so many levels lol.
