Shit I’ve got a guy messaging me out of the blue to talk shit about the Thunder, I block him and he goes to a sub I moderate and sends the mod mail a message. Now he’s sending pathetic shit talk through the mod mail every day. I can’t stop him from sending messages to the mod mail, just report it to reddit and move on with life. Guess I could just abandon the sub, I only created it as a bad joke anyway.

the first nba game i ever watched was rockets vs lakers, and in the game thread a lakers fan said at the half that if the rockets won he’d drink his own piss (lakers were up like 15 points). the rockets did end up winning and i checked his account the next day and indeed there was a video of that guy peeing into a plastic cup and drinking it. i still find myself thinking about that guy sometimes.

Not really. Since the Cavs lost every game, the top 10 words seem to be more focused on the negatives. That’s why Harden and Mitchell are there. People were pissed at them because they played awful awful defense. Kenny also gets mentioned because he got out coached.

Mobley was fine. Obviously he didn’t do enough to carry them to wins but he was far from the biggest reason they got swept.

He was kinda just there. Didn’t play horribly to get trashed like Chet/Duren but also had no noteworthy performance either.

Basically yeah, I have a bunch of regex that looks for any kind of phrase like “refs”, “whistles”, “flops”, “rigged”, “terrible call”, etc. It’s not super elegant and it is pretty broad / will definitely catch some false positives, but it’s been working pretty well I think. Here it is if you’re curious (this is an R function that just returns the regex):

Everyone’s flair in this data is set to match the flair on their latest comment in the dataset / across the sub. So if you change your flair from Nuggets -> OKC or something, that would retroactively move you from the former to the latter in all these reports.

My best friend’s a Knicks fan, been pulling for them when we’re out cause of that and Brunson is so fun to watch takeover games late.

I got the data with PRAW (python wrapper for reddit API) nightly, stored the data in a postgres database I have, and then all the graphics were made in R using ggplot2 for the graphs and Quarto for the report templates (they get rendered to HTML and then converted to a PNG). I am hopefully gonna share my code in the next post if I can sit down and clean out all the hardcoded database connection args and stuff I have in there lol

You could post the most milquetoast comment in favour of the Thunder and get downvotes for it.
