[Press] Jared McCain on coming to Oklahoma midseason: “I was writing in my journal last night how if you told me 4 months ago, that I would start in some WCF games, I woulda looked at you a little weird.”
One of the few Thunder players that were locked in for Game 7. It didn’t look like he was afraid of the bright lights. What a pick-up. He’ll be good for the Thunder for as long as he’s there.
He had 2 points in 2nd half lol. The first half they also went on a run without him to take lead btw. Had Champagnie looking like a all star too
Nothing against McCain but he didn’t play that good, 29 from 3 too for a guy who’s main skill is the 3
Yeah, I remember one play where he flopped cause Wemby touched him, which led to his man hitting a wide open 3
Rough rough play. I didn’t see much of him in Philly (obviously), but at least in OKC he has shown a willingness to flip but no acting skills to get the whistle. He’ll be much better at it next year. Hopefully refs get better instructions next year
He was legit awful in Philly this year. Like he looked like knee didn’t heal right and was slow and looked like didn’t belong. It’s why he got sent to G league. He did start playing alil better once got traded though
This is true. His stats for us this year were abysmal but it felt like it was mostly because of the knee injury.
Yet Daigneault was still playing McCain heavy mins, because Chet, Dort and even Hartenstein were getting played off the court.
They needed McCain to push the rock and keep the Spurs guards from focusing too hard on SGA, which he did.
All of the OKC roleplayers did their part. Sure, McCain cooled off in the 2nd half and Caruso was hitting bricks in game 7 but the real issue in the series was the starters like Chet and Dort being unplayable against the Spurs.
He was also one of the few OKC players that wasn’t afraid to challenge Wemby at the rim, scoring on Wemby under the basket is worth more than 3s in my book esp when the starters were clearly shaken.
now pull up chets stats 😭😭
I get the stats but if you watched the actual game, when SGA went to breathe for 2 minutes (was gassed as shit from carrying this entire team), the crew noted the only that still had any fight in him was McCain, and it was true. The rest of them were frozen solid. He got SOMETHING going and as a Spurs fan that felt huge to me, without it the team would’ve collapsed. It’s more than just 3p% or total points.
For a guy that was traded mid season in his second year sometimes just playing is enough to still be seen as good. It’s the effort not the result in a lot of cases.
You’re right he didn’t play great, but he was asked to do way more lifting that expected offensively and was one of 2 OKC players who didn’t look terrified to shoot
Yep the guy should go back to making TikToks
Why not both? This guy played better than Chet
I think his ceiling is being our Lou Williams, but that would be amazing. That’s what we needed in this series, we needed him to be Lou Williams, giving us 18-22 off the bench every night, but we needed that with JDub out there. We mostly did an admirable job handling Wemby’s presence in the paint, although I would’ve liked us to be more aggressive, but whatever, we just needed more shooting. Y’all were making all your shots, whether it was Castle or Harper or Vassell or Champagnie and our guys weren’t making their shots. We’d have one guy show up per game, sometimes Caruso, sometimes McCain, but couldn’t get it done in the end. If we can come back next year healthy, I would love for this to end up as this generations Lakers/Celtics kinda rivalry.
Much better player than Lou Will. I like Lou Will, but he wasn’t a winning player. One can’t believe this is McCain’s second year. He already looks like a vet out there.
The cognitive dissonance is giving whiplash lmao. How do you call Lou not a winning player and saying McCain is in the same sentence. They’re literally both microwave scorers who can’t defend or playmake. At least Lou could create his own offense.
Just for context, he has a TS of 45% on mostly assisted shots in this series.
Lou wil is one of the most negative playoff players in history rifht beside derozan and jamal crawford
Sorry, I don’t remember much of Lou Will’s career. Has he ever been a champion, or been a key member of a championship team? I don’t recall outright. Same with Jamal Crawford. Great scorers off the bench, yes. But rarely contribute to winning in general.
McCain’s got the potential to change that. He plays within the offense. Hits timely shots. Doesn’t take shots from others. He’s in a better position now than those two have in their careers.
I feel like not remembering Lou Will’s career is not knowing ball
But idk
Give them a break, the average age of this sub is 15
Acting like Lou Will was anything more than a role player with a couple notable moments is pretty funny. Dude was good in his role, but cmon.
If you only know stars and not role players you don’t know ball and it’s not like he’s some guy from the 80s Lou will literally dropped 35 on KD warriors in 2019
I wasn’t a fan of his teams. Like above, has he ever been a champion, or been a key member of a championship team?
I don’t like to be lazy and use Google, would like to hear perspectives from other fans.
No but he was on a lot of playoff teams, even ones that won series. As was Jamal Crawford.
I’m not even arguing that Lou or Jamal are winning players. Although it’s incredibly stupid to label a player as a loser because they weren’t on a championship team, that is just SAS level analysis based on “rings culture.”
Brother, he has 92 points on 93 shots. At some point, some will go in and end up being “timely.”
I swear to god, Redditors would happily take McCain and 5 FRPs for Giannis the way ya’ll talk about him.
And he’s fearless, one of the things I loved best about him.
Both Filipinos were fearless during the series, lol, it’s in the blood xD
Jared is cheating a bit though since he mentioned in an interview he was like 2% Filipino. Not sure if there’s any change to that statement but he’s such a likable dude that I think that’s enough for Filipinos to claim him as their own. I didn’t expect Harper to be this good so early though, his growth and ceiling as a player is going to be interesting to see. I think for a lot of Filipinos that I’ve talked to, they thought Jalen Green was going to be that guy when he was drafted. He’s still young but it’s starting to look like that he won’t be that all-star caliber talent unless he finally takes a leap.
Jared clarified that one of his grandparents was adopted, so my guess is that they did 23andMe or Ancestry.com and the results showed a small, trace percentage of Filipino/Austronesian. This is not uncommon for African-Americans but it’s not really Filipino so much as it is an indication of Malagasy ancestry from Madagascar. The Black community in the United States has some regional differences (e.g. the Gullah in South Carolina), but there was a two-year period when slaves were brought to the United States directly from Madagasar to Virginia – if I were to guess, Jared’s adopted grandparent has roots from Virginia which is where that Southeast Asian ancestry comes from.
Now that you mention it, it must be. I’ve never know a Filipino who wasn’t fearless.
Meh, we’re used to our Dads/Moms/Grandpas/Grandmas/Titos/Titas telling how it is. I think there’s some tough skin that’s developed, and also there’s an inner Filipino pride. Confidence from generally small people is pretty freaking outstanding lol. I’m Filipino so I can relate a bit hahah.
Not a winning player? Prior to acquiring Kawhi, Clippers had an amazing run with Lou as the first option even as a 6th man, with mostly mid roster at the time. If you swapped that version of Lou with Maccain, they would definitely win the series. Lou is a walking bucket.
Walking bucket doesn’t mean a winning player. Respectfully speaking, that Clippers team had Gallinari and Tobias Harris as well. Looking at the stats, Lou Will had an eFg of 47.1%, probably around the same as he was in his career. He was a microwave scorer yes, but was not known as an elite defender, and didn’t have a collection of big games, especially in the playoffs. Sorry.
Yeah and what Thunder needed was a microwave scorer, not a defensive player which they have plenty.
Point taken. You’re comparing a veteran with 11 or so years, who knows all his spots on the floor, to a guy in his 2nd year. Give McCain a few years. And I agree, Lou would have been deadly with this Thunder team.
Second year and barely that with the injuries. Good kid.
18 of 22 is pretty lofty expectations tbh
Cant tell if this is sarcasm, bc i dont know how you would read it like that
Not sure what you mean….
He meant 18-22 points, not 18⁄22 shooting.
Yeah I know I’m just fuckin with you
I see it as Lakers/spurs personally, whoever wins WCF is the favorite
76ers has to have some of the most incompetent execs in the league today.
Trading McCain wasn’t even a top 10 bad move. We have Embiid 300 million extension 2 years before we had to and he’s barely played since he got it
He’d be off the books this year and now it’s kicking in lol…
you also put all the moves they made to try to keep embiid happy under that same umbrella, and it really is some sunk cost shit
Embiid is never happy. VJ is first guy he’s prob hung out with and it’s cause VJ is ultimate teammate / people’s person. Embiid didn’t mature til 32, now it’s too late.
It’s worse than that, we have incompetent ownership that meddles with the execs. During Embiid’s prime, Sixers have paid the tax twice in 8 years. We’re the sixth largest city in America and one of the largest media markets and we had a perennial top-5 MVP candidate. WTF are we even doing. At least Dolan was always willing to spend.
There’s a reason the Eagles are consistently rated a model franchise and one of the best places to work and it predates Howie Roseman. It’s because of Jeffrey Lurie. The Eagles were a dumpster fire in the 90s under Norman Braman, but Lurie has given his GMs a blank check to do what’s right for the team and for the community. Josh Harris wanted to lay off 80% of the salaried employees during COVID until Embiid shamed him into doing the right thing.
All were locked in.
Except you know who
He played pretty dogshit game 7.
He was terrible all series 36/28/79 splits 11 assists to 10 tos while getting bullied on defense. Sure he’s a role player getting a bigger offensive workload than he’s supposed to due to injuries but it’s clear that San Antonio was actively forcing the ball out of SGA’s hands into his and letting him brick. To be fair he’s a role player with a far bigger role than he should have due to injury.
Yeah what a good Judo roll/takedown against a Spurs player. Wow
One of the only Thunder players who didn’t seem scared in the back half of the series. Maybe a bit wild and reckless but I’d rather that than scared.
the worse wemby can do is block your shot
Or completely destroy your confidence in yourself
Chet is definitely taking green goblin serum over the summer
Chet when he still gets bodied by his French dad next season
Chet is checking trade sims to find the best way for him to get to the East
I hear they got some good oxtail in Florida
Hehehe
Ya quite the opposite. He was aggressive a took every look he got.
Honestly, one of the few 2 or 3 Thunder players that were actually fun to watch this series. Bright future ahead, no doubt.
It’s cute that he journals. Self-reflection is important.
It’s on brand for the guy. I like that he’s living his own way
I wish I could be more positive like him tbh
you got this homie, one day at a time
What a great influence this dude is. Not afraid to be himself and seems like such a positive dude. The world needs a lot more Jared mccains
I wonder if he journaled about how sweet that judo throw on Vassell was.
Him and Caruso practing their martial arts on the court was so hard to watch.
Let McCain be Chet golden retriever that man can fix his broken state of mind
I’m glad the series is over, because I genuinely cannot dislike this guy. Love his positivity.
even on that one play where he got ran over in garbage minutes, he had every right to be upset or pissed off, but he just seemed shocked for a few seconds and then got over it by the time he was doing the post game interview. just felt bad it happened to him when it should’ve happened to anyone else on the thunder.
“I was with Philly. There, the second round was like the finals for us.”
The Knicks make one finals and their fans talk like that’s their standard.
Being better than the 76ers is the bare minimum
You guys failed to reach the minimum for multiple decades?
Yeah but I think we’ve earned the right to at least shit on the Sixers, c’mon
Permission granted.
Seconded.
Y’all in the finals, talk your shit lol.
Knicks beat them twice in recent memory too
Top 1 percent commenter doesnt realize theyre supposed to flair up when talking smack about franchises. I miss the good old days of this sub
In this parity era, talk your shit while you can!
Real fucking brave to say some dumb shit like that without a flair of your own.
Would you want people to know you were a sixers fan??
better than being a top 1% commenter
Is it, kiddo?
I mean….sixers aren’t some franchise that’s above us they can catch a couple
Don’t pretend for one second that wouldn’t be you dorks if the Sixers made the finals.
The 76ers haven’t even seen a conference finals in the last 25 years
You try having Joel Embiid be immature and weigh you down for 12 years
Wait til he’s gone and see what brother VJ gonna do. You’ll see buddeh
We finally got a mature real one, if Embiid took condition serious, was a leader; wasn’t immature, we’d prob have a ring but he’s a big goofball. Hes like opposite of Wemby who’s serious and a leader.
As a therapist, it’s hard to hate on this dude lol
As a therapist who is easy to hate on?
Has to be Draymond
I dislike Embiid and life long 76ers fan. Dudes immaturity has pissed me off for a decade. Our fans think it’s funny but it’s why we’d never win shit with him. Seeing him flop to floor 87 times a game killed my love for the game. Painful to watch him.
Compared to Wemby who takes conditioning serious; actually is a team guy, is a leader, if Embiid had Wembys maturity and mentality we’d have 1 ring by now. Embiid even admitted didn’t text a teammate back in years. You can’t win in team sports with guy like him, also showed up late or didn’t travel with team for years. Dude was drinking 5 milks a meal apparently and never stretched til already had 7 injuries. Our fans make excuses for him too.
I always hated Cousins, he’s the first guy that came to mind
The emotional lesbian?
I would guess Draymond.
Shaq? lol
Ben Simmons, for using mental health as a cover for lack of effort over an entire career.
Kobe. Can’t do anything with that Mamba Mentality
Damn this is a good question
Cure my gambling addiction
I’mma bet on that happening.
Man fuck him bitch ass premature celebrations like he’s that dude or something
Not afraid. Which is why dagenault subbed Chet out for him at the end. Maybe a little late IMO
He’s such a strong player & seems like a stellar person. He achieved full “not that guy” status for me this series, was on edge every time he got the ball. Morey is an idiot.
It’s pretty frustrating. The thunder are getting to the point where we’ve seen some cracks, and they’ll have to make some changes due to jumping salaries. And then fucking Morey just hands them a fearless 22 year old who can make an impact in the highest level playoff games. Like I know we won this time, but next year with Jdub and Mitchell healthy, McCain off the bench could be the difference in a series.
hell i don’t have a dog in the race but even i thought yall fall to a mccain or lugentz magnet ball after caruso’s turned off
Of course he was journaling lol. McCain is great.
Please take care of him! I trust your office won’t pull a Morey
For him it’s a diary
Laying on his belly kicking his feet and shit
“How I get him out how I get him out”
Curling his toes and shit
lmfaao bruh easy on him now
I cannot overstate how amazing it has been having him on our team. You got grown men painting their nails just because of him. I think the best part is how willing he is to just be vulnerable and be himself even in a social media age where every clip and word is turned against you. Hope he stays for a long long time.
hope he stops practicing martials arts on the court though
Maybe my favorite out of the guys in the last two classes
He’s a player I’d love to have on my team. Positive guy, not afraid of the moment. Not afraid to shoot. Hopefully he works on his handles, because he needs to learn how to create space and his own shot better, but dude has all the makings of being a winner.
not afraid to throw opponent with a judo technique to the floor
McCain rules. Hope he thrives in OKC
He seems cool. That Judo throw on Devin was a little wild though.
Overlooking the judo throw, Jared really showed he belonged as a starter for a championship team on a game 7.
He just seems like such a good hearted and optimistic person. Really rooting for Jared
balled out more than Chet
Oklahoma City Performative Males
Of all those guys and you’ll be calling McCain performative? Dude is just secure gtfo
McCain by far the most performative on the Thunder. Shai is also very performative with his fake non chalant persona. Chet wears a durag. J Dub the only dude who isn’t obviously fake
Bruh aint his likes (nail polish, tiktok, and journaling) literally against what the current state of the world that is full of machismo? Obviously fuck the Thunder but this dude seems to be sincere.
EDIT: Chet wears a durag that’s what being performative is.
“Nail polish, TikTok, and journaling”
I don’t know if you’re too old but that’s quite literally the definition of a performative male for gen Z
His hobbies might be a little on the feminine side. Performative male wants to be those cool mysterious type guy you could read in a YA novel lol. Anyway fuck it bro, have a great day
Showing up to game 7 with the cheetah print belt and a purse is performative
How insecure do you guys gotta be to still be focused on this stuff two days later?
Nbacj is gonna love this one
Mr gansey I would like this guy to be on my team next season please
NBA players, they’re just like us in 2010 writing in our journals
Why’d you hit Devo with the arm drag Jared?
He didn’t have to specify Western
Jared McCain makes Bryant Gumble look like Malcolm X
thats cause he was in the east. i would have look at Giannis weirdly if he said that too
I still don’t understand how Chet takes 2 shots in 30+ minutes.
Dude is legit so likeable
Spurs are great. I’m read for a healthy season for the Thunder as well.
Still can’t understand how Morey gave up on him so early…
he felt that he wasn’t playable next to maxey and i guess he didn’t want him on a rebuilding team even tho it wouldn’t meant a solid 2 or so years as a tank commander averaging 18 as a starter. but to not get him on something like the suns or blazers that have a future already instead of filling the one hole the defending champs were struggling with is nuts
if you don’t type people might actually think you know ball
People love to hate this team, but i genuinely don’t know if there is a team across the league that the players as people are easier to root for (let’s pretend like this year Dort doesn’t exist, he was cool until this year)
Love you jmac. See you next year.
Yeah go home
Lets gooo, been trying to get my homies to get into journaling
I had almost the same exact journal entry, that’s dope
Never seen any player say they journal
He’s the only OKC player I like
Why is everyone on okc so feminine?
Arthur from Red Dead Redemption is feminine too by that logic
Oof nice cope
It’s not a cope journaling has been a unisex practice probably since humans had the ability to write lol
You’re just insecure and projecting, it’s okay
Saying oof in 2026 DOES make you sound like a tiktok pilled teen girl tho
Bro is citing video games to defend fta online
Need Jmac in the lab asap working on his ball handling. Big weakness. Also couldn’t buy a shot when it mattered
I know you’re trolling
Maybe but Neither can max player Chet.
Also at least he wasn’t scared stiff out there
Can we move on past these losers?
You okay homie? No one’s forcing you to be here
? All the thunder sound bites on the front page are interesting and insightful. And it’s not like there are games going on right now
No, let them cook up these quotes
Jared McCain is a gem, no slander allowed
Gem of a loser
I think he means “twerking on TikTok”
“My teammates have been flopping so well. I must learn after Shai and Chet how to flop better because they are the best in the game”.
is that a LAKERS FLAIR???
Lmao, Lakers flair.
Lakers fans are so shameless, tb flopping with a team spearheaded by lebron, reaves and luka
Whatd lebron say to sengun? Anybody but yall
Theres a difference in foul drawing and straight up flopping. Are nets fans as stupid as okc fans?
No no there really isnt, only reason luka hits the deck less is cuz even he knows how dumb he would look tryna throw his 260 pound body onto the ground
Its either all foul baiting is ethical or no foul baiting is ethical
No fuckin way bro. Luka damn near as bad as Shai
He used to play with Embiid??
Cornball now you can paint your nails in peace.
Getting pressed over another dude deciding they want to paint their nails is very close to the theoretical maximum of insecurity.
Cool story dawg
Edit: pusc talked shit then deleted his comment. 😂
Hey, if you want to be a sad little man that’s your call. Just saying.
[removed]
22 year old kid that plays basketball for a living needs to chime in on geopolitics?
Y’all mothefuckers would have been silent during the Holocaust bruh
OOTL - what did he say about Israel/Palestine?
this guy’s been trolling the sub for weeks don’t engage lol
This made me curious so I just went digging, and there is a video of McCain as he is signing items and a voice behind the camera asks what his stance is on Palestine. McCain says “come on bro” and the video ends. It looks like it is after a game because it its dark out and I have no clue when the video was taken.
a fan asked him “stance on palenstine” while signing autographs and he said “huh, come on bro”
Apparently you can never know bc that dude hates acronyms that much. Haha
What is this?
