Real answer is that the Beam Team happened during the year that teams were tanking for Wemby, so Kings got a lot of free wins on trash teams like the Spurs and the Thunder. Additionally, the team was all offense, no defense, and the games were really close. A lot of the games were won in clutch time by a small margin, which is not a recipe for success.

The year after, the team dialed down the offense to try to improve the defense. Didn’t work. And during those close games, the ball didn’t go into the hoop, so we lost more of those.

Arguably, it’s good that our front office didn’t over-invest into that team because the cracks were showing even during the Beam Team year.
