I was on the anti-Thunder bandwagon this whole season as most are here, but blowing it all up after one series when two of their key players were injured feels so shortsighted and reactionary to me

Mobley’s agent must have sponsored this article. Mobley is a thin big man who would be better served as a backline four offering rim protection rather than a true 5. He is also very passive when it comes to getting his own shot. WHY TF WOULD WE TRADE FOR HIM WHEN WE HAVE CHET?

OKC should trade for Giannis, he’s exactly what they need. Mobley is just another version of what they already have

Why would the Cavs trade Mobley to the Thunder?

Well, it wouldn’t be a two team trade. If OKC went this route they would have to rope Portland into the deal so Portland could send the Bucks picks back to them. Something like Giannis to OKC, Holmgren and Joe to Portland, Grant and a young player/salary filler and picks back to the Bucks. Not easy but there might be a framework there that makes everyone happy.

Sure, they could do it but would the ownership want to go deep into the tax? The whole point of having all those draft picks was to reload with cheaper assets to replace the players who would require huge extensions.

If presti is good as they say. He will definitely go for it. Championship window are finite no matter the team, age or other advantages. Look at the Celtics the best case study or nuggets, bucks etc

Evan Mobley is not a replacement for Chet either and I wouldn’t sell the squad for Giannis

You’re really desparate if you want Mobley…but after last nights disappearance by Chet, I suspect they are.  

They might just need a tiny tweak. They’re better than the other 29 teams in the league and it took the Spurs 7 games to beat them. Thats with the Thunder missing 2 key players most if not the entire series.

That’s not to say the Spurs didn’t deserve the win. Heck, the Thunder benefitted from injuries last season when they won their title.

A knee jerk reaction would be stupid however. If I was them Id just run it back with no moves and see what happens.

I don’t think a thunder team with less depth, youth but adding Giannis takes them a step forward, I think it takes them a step back.

I don’t think it’s an overreaction to consider at all. And they have enough draft picks, young pieces (like Ajay and Cason), and salary filler to make an offer WITHOUT including Jalen Williams or Chet.

Milwaukee to OKC, living in the Mid West for his whole career is not something I would envision for a guy who was born on the coast of Greece.

I feel like all the arguments against the Giannis trade ignore the context of the Thunder right now. It’s not 100% clear that everything goes their way:

Wemby neutralized Chet, whether or not Chet is a max player in the context of having to go against the Spurs in the WCF (I don’t think Chet is a bum just a bad matchup into Wemby, he’s worth a max 100%).

They don’t know if JDub is going to be healthy again or be Aaron Gordon. Injury concerns after he had another hammy injury.

Will they keep IHart? He played well so, who are they going to drop to make that happen.

Spurs are a young team, if they get significantly better next year, is running it back an error?;

Giannis from what we’ve seen has shown a capacity to play well against Wemby, could he be a Wemby stomper?

The arguments I’ve seen against Giannis from Thunder fans are:

He’s old (31) and injury prone

He’s a diva that doesn’t fit Thunder culture, will we have to sign his bum nepo brothers

1 year contract might not extend

It will be an overpay not worth it

Don’t panic we took them to game 7 without 2 of our best scorers

I don’t know what camp I fall into but from watching the series as a fan of neither team I think I tend to believe that Giannis would be good into Wemby; Chet looked really passive to me in that series and passed the ball every time he saw Wemby.

(Maybe you don’t have to give up Chet for Giannis and accept he can’t score into Wemby )

I think I lean in the worried about JDub injuries camp, he clearly has upside though

SGA was facing super tough coverages, honestly felt very similar to every superstar that faced OKC this year that struggled. Giannis will open that up as a big scoring threat.

I don’t think Giannis for picks + gutting a bit of your deep roster + having to part ways with either Jdub or Chet is an easy choice. Doesn’t seem like a Presti move to me.

Now people are saying the thunder have been surpassed by the spurs and need to make major changes

The spurs young guys will get better but the thunder also had guys missing.

If the concern is having a big man who floats around and isn’t always impactful or aggressive, not sure Mobley helps to address that either

Giannis puts them in a win now or bust mode, has his own injury baggage and is expensive.

I just can’t see Giannis wanting to go to the Thunder. There would be some parallels with KD on the Warriors in that he wouldn’t get the same credit for winning a ring because they won before he got there and he’d be arguably the second best player on the team

They just need an All NBA Wing and they will be fine

This thread is a bit weird. All season we were talking about OKC’s depth and the top end talent they had. 2 players missing shouldn’t have been the end for that. Especially considering that the Spurs were missing Fox for a couple of crucial games.

I did not expect the Spurs to win. They did. SGA and Chet were horrible.

Realistically I think we don’t do anything big. Focus on working with Chet this offseason to get a bit more muscle, work on making his shot faster, work on the aggression. It’s really only Wemby and the spurs he struggles with consistently.

We could trade up in the draft but even then I don’t know that we will.

We went to 7 with the spurs while missing 2 of our top guys. Jdub health is a concern but he’ll have the summer to heal his hammys. He looked dynamite when he came back from the wrist injury and in the phoenix series before injuring the hamstring. So the player/talent is there.

Ajay should bounce back as well and really improved as the season played out.

I was also supremely impressed with McCain over the last few games of the series. His shot percentage needs to improve a bit but his ball handling is big and he’ll be a big part of the team. Extremely hard worker.

All in all while Chet shit the bed last night the team is still in a great position.

Mobley is what they need. Just open the war chest and do it.

I just think it’s really stupid to make massive roster change when you lost in game 7 of the conference finals, without your 2nd best player a year after you won the title.

Sooner or later Thunder will use their picks in a big trade. That said, I can see them going for Trey Murphy rather than Giannis
