07 Lebron was a terrible shooter, only shot 31.5% on 3s and then that dipped even further to 28% in playoffs. Spurs gameplan in the 07 finals was literally leave him open on midrange and 3pt jumpers and he was terrible.

But he was a much better playmaker than wemby, got about 8 APG while wemby only gets around 3. So kinda evens out.

For example there’s no way in hell 07 lebron is making that deep 3 to tie it like wemby did in game 1. And the OKC team wemby just beat is on the same level defensively as the 07 spurs, even more so if you account for all their flopping and dirty plays, and wemby still only had 1 bad game out of 7, while lebron had at least 3 bad games out of 4 vs Spurs.

Teams are shooting 20% worse inside the arc when he’s on the floor. That alone is superstar impact.

Huge wemby fan, I’ve thought he’s been the best player in the world post all star break but I think there’s a (small) chance this is closer to his peak than we would typically expect. We typically think of basketball players peaking in their lates 20s/early 30s since that’s typically when offensive prowess peaks with a balance in skill and athleticism. However, most players peak much earlier on defense, early/mid 20s due to athleticism peaking and I think wembys value will always be greater on defense than offense. However I’m not too worried about his defense getting much worse with age and he still has room to improve for defensive decision making. There’s also so much room for his offensive game to develop still too.

Wasn’t even that good today (although his defensive impact was immense) but he went turbo nuclear the rest of the series (minus the game 5 stinker) and carried his team to the finals. He’s genuinely had a historic postseason thus far. If he wins a chip this young then I don’t even know what player has been this good this young. Dare I say BITW?
