It’s so funny that after all the talk about OKC’s crazy depth and Spurs’ inexperience, the series was basically decided by a bunch of Spurs role players and young guys like Harper, Champagnie, Johnson, Vassell, Kornet, taking turns going fucking ballistic - and then all pitching in together in game 7 - while the story of OKC’s series was “get Shai some fucking help.”

Julian joined the Spurs and was a better player than Keldon. Which, to your point, wasn’t saying a lot, but Julian wasn’t a fan favorite and wasn’t one of “our” guy, so he wasn’t evaluated fairly by fans.

Mind you Julian isn’t a fan favorite to me either, but it was pretty easy to see how unfairly he was evaluated early on as a Spur.

It’s really draft-bias. Julian was undrafted so he inherently viewed as having lower potential and less leeway than guys who were terrible like Lonnie Walker or at least significantly worse like Keldon.

I’m not wanting to argue the night of a Spurs finals appearance but I do have to push back on the idea he was ever one of the worst rotation players in the league as a Spur :)

I don’t understand your fans. He’s the glue guy that allows your entire team to operate. His 3pt shot ability allows your guards to have space since you have to have someone on him at all times. He’s not a typical 3 and D guy because he can also defend inside the box.

When wembys out of position champagnie is the one that covers for wemby. He puts a lot of effort into every rebound and helps box out for wemby

Your fans says he’s a bad defender but he’s your MOST versatile defender. He can be put on 1-5. There is a reason why he has the most minutes out of all your players.

I wish our champagnie gets to be this good.

Who the fuck said that shit?! Since the start of the season he did what he needed to do, and that was just hold the line till Wemby got his ass back in the game. The only time I personally shit on Kornet was this series as game 1-2 he was absolutely worthless being on the court. He was too slow and people were blowing by him nonstop and he couldn’t stop any of OKC bigs from getting to the paint.

Rashard Lewis as an assistant coach for Julian is great - Other guys do the creation, there’s a great big dude who gets attention, shoot open 3’s, rebound, defend your position. Julian is kind of a discount version, but the role for a really good team is very similar to Lewis on those Magic teams with Dwight.
