[Highlight] Shai lands in Harper’s landing space but no foul is called
Yeah that should’ve been a foul; Zarba’s crew typically lets them play though
Much rather this than the alternative
I think that’s the biggest problem we have right now with officiating. Same two teams played two days ago, under the same rulebook, played a very similar style, and shot a combined 70 free throws, then tonight they only shoot 37. Some of the officials just aren’t operating the same and it’s causing so much angst
I think that’s the biggest problem we have right now with officiating.
Agree, but it’s not just now, I think this has always been the problem with NBA reffing. Really, basketball reffing in general. As someone who pretty avidly consumes all 4 major US Sports, I think basketball is probably, by a considerable margin, the most difficult to ref consistently. I know this sub isn’t huge on college ball, but if you want to see some truly horrendous inconsistent refereeing, try watching one college team all for season and you can really see the gulf between NBA refs and college refs. Maybe the home-plate umps in baseball are a counter-example, but even that has been partially mitigated by the ABS review system this year.
I don’t really have a solution, people way smarter and more knowledgeable than me have tried and failed to fix it, but it really is a glaring issue with the sport at large.
As someone who reffed middle school basketball the biggest thing they drilled home was to talk to all refs before the game and agree on being consistent with how you call it. So while constancy between ref groups won’t happen the good refs at least are consistent within games
Which is the opposite of what we saw in game five - seemed like it was two completely different games from the the beginning of the first quarter to the rest of the game before the comeback became unreachable for SAS
Game 2 was the same tbh, then when it started to get chippy they had to reign it in between the two hard fouls on castle and him getting angry about em, had to start calling shit so fists didnt fly.
Well said, I have been lucky enough to call a lot of high level high school basketball and one day you are calling the game and you are fire, every time something happens, you were right there to catch it. Then the next night, your kid got sick, wife is stressed, and now I’m trying to call a high level game and oh shit I can’t get my mind unfocused for 2 seconds or something will happen that feels monumental. But then you want to implement AI but then what if it gets too precise? Because technically you could call a foul every possession but it takes neaunce to keep the flow
NBA refs have way more judgment calls compared to the other major sports. In the nfl, there might be handful of calls a game that are judgment calls, like pass interference or roughing the passer, but the NBA you can have multiple judgment calls against players per quarter, even within the same foul (flagrant 1 or 2). Idk how that can be fixed without a massive overhaul to the nba rules.
Game to game is pretty bad. But even worse is quarter to quarter or half to half.
I forget what teams were playing (I want to say Boston and Milwaukee), but in one game the teams were playing physical but clean basketball. No cheap shots, no dangerous plays, etc. First half had very few fouls called and it was great.
Then after half, suddenly every single ticky-tack foul was being called and it was awful to watch.
I blame the proliferation of gambling which relies heavily on risk and not knowing what would happen on a game by game basis. Adam Silver sold his soul to the gambling companies that is why he is hell bent on the tanking stuff (which isn’t even top 3 issues people have with the league). His bosses called him and said half these games are pointless go fix it, leave random calls in we need that to manipulate odds.
yup rooting for the spurs here but i’m fine with this not being called as long as it goes both ways.
The alternative being Tony Brothers making love with his whistle
I’d rather they let this go like most everything else than call every little thing.
That’s the issue, they’re inconsistent and it makes the game more dangerous because even the players don’t know what they can and can’t get away with
They do. They scout the refs too
What they can and cannot get away with is already established in the rule book. The problem is the rules are not enforced to a standard. Once the standard is enforced the players will fall in line. If this was called a follow every time. Guess what players are going to not try to do. Jump in the shooters land zone. Same thing with flopping, traveling, etc, etc. enforce the rules.
When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.
Grab em by the pu$$y?
Grab them by the whi$tle
Do even worse on an island, as described in the Trump/epstein files.
Nothing will happen to you
Thank you, Mr. President.
Key word being “let”.
i remember Rudy Gobert getting a flagrant for that
Yeah no kidding… was that against Wemby? Funny how the narrative shifts from one series to another.
Those ones up at the 3 line are so annoying. Jamal Murray jumping 4 feet forward into a defender that is trying to avoid contact is not what I would call dangerous unless you are talking offensive foul worthy.
I think for 3s the rule should be changed. If defender doesn’t cross the 3 line, no landing zone foul. The O player is responsible for their own safety and can certainly stay behind the line if they want. If they want to jump forward like a Middle school kid trying to shoot a 3, that is on them.
if you watch that replay back Rudy shifted his feet towards Vic’s landing area. It’s impossible to know the intention, but it didn’t look good — whereas here it doesn’t look like he’s doing it on purpose at least.
This should have still been a foul tho
Rudy got a flagrant for almost touching that center on the thunder
Spurs propaganda arm lmao i love it
OKC fans and MAGAs have one thing in common: they see the abuse but still tolerate it.
They might be one and the same lol…
There is a strange similarity in the cult-like ability to stubbornly believe the rest of the world is wrong and turn a blind eye when you see a glimpse of the truth in order to protect yourself and beliefs.
Are you saying the angry mob usually gets it right? Lol cuz I got a History book I’d love for you to read
I’m a warriors fan and they got away with a shit ton of moving screens during their run. It’s not that hard to call a spade a spade. Denying something that’s so obviously happening is when it just gets weird or awkward.
The general public consensus is not an “angry mob”. Stop, get help. Come back to the real world
Imagine being so consumed by politics you bring it up in a game 7 thread of your team
Doesn’t seem consumed at all tbh
Do you guys expect OKC fans to not support their team? The fans are not the one flopping.
Supporting your team and trying to gaslight everyone about flopping/getting away with stuff is different
If they just went “yeah, we’re flopping and you should do it too if you want to win” it would be less annoying. The whole “NO WERE NOT!!1!!11” is just rejecting reality and that’s never healthy.
Same with MAGAs they are not the President. But they let him though.
This is what we mean when we say call it both ways
Yup. But no chance of fixing that now. Spurs haven’t been coached on how sell everything like OKC has. Better just to hope for a loose whistle overall.
Im only sorta okay with it, because i remember the kawhi injury, and i also destroyed my ankle cause some doofus did the same shit to me. Normally im pretty reasonable and blame the the shooter for jumping forward also, not the case here.
He also hit dylan hard across the head on a layup, and it was just a regular foul. If it was the other way around it would have easily been a flagrant but they didn’t even review it
If it was the other way the OKC player would’ve barrel rolled into the third row- you saw what happened when Chet was brushed lightly on the ankle
Rules for thee but not for me.
Flops for free in OKC.
Fine with the no call. Now do that when SGA is shooting.
As an impartial hater of both teams at the moment, I can’t decide what I would enjoy more. Watching OKC lose G7 and seeing their reign of basketball terrorism over at least temporarily. Or watching the Spurs lose G7 and building a fucking ark to sail the seas of salty tears from their fans.
Classic playoff refs literally right in front of them and nothing
I find the game more exciting when nobody is getting the whistle, unless it’s an egregious foul. Not the no blood, no foul thing though. That’s just stupid. 😂
Jesus Christ people
As a Spurs fan, yes it was a foul, but as long is officiated like this on both sides, I have no issue with not calling that, and I think yesterday they just let them play, which I like over calling fouls on every offensive possession.
i don’t mind the none call, i just hate the inconsistency knowing shai will get those with less contact
when you say the inconsistency you mean between games? they were certainly not bending the sga last night at all.
yes between games. shai got a ton of those game 5
thats not a shai problem, thats a refs being inconsistent idiots
i agree, can’t blame him that refs call stupid shit for him sometimes
Most of shais game 5 fouls were castle tackling him at half court while both teams were in the bonus 4 minutes in.
…and you know what, I’m okay with that. Really appreciated the crew last night. They let ‘em play. Thought Kornet got mugged on the rebound too. Everybody appeared to get the message and played on. Loved it.
Of course not
Foul for me, not for thee
Two flagrants shai got away with on harper.
SGA gets this call every time
They would call a foul if it was SGA
Seeing SGA able to balance here after hitting Harper’s legs really shows how much he flops on offense. SGA falls even with no contact at all on offense.
non-star no-call, maybe next season
No call is fine as long as sga isn’t getting it on the other end
Shai didn’t get these calls last night either.. lol this sub is a joke.
SGA is trying to test Harper’s adductor injury there because he is desperate
Harper threw himself on the ground. His flopping makes the game unwatchable.
How can anyone tell based on this clip?
Like, Caruso is literally standing in front of the landing.
Are you blind? Their feet literally collide lol
Which foot? To me it looks like Harper’s landing foot (his right) comes down clean and the contact mostly from his left foot, which is way out there. If you think you can see SGA’s foot under or contacting Harper’s right foot, then you’re doing a better job deciphering the pixels I guess.
Do you have object permanence? Does SGA’s feet just disappear from reality in your mind because Caruso blocked the view as he landed? Do you not also see SGA literally trip over his feet?
You cannot possibly tell if someone lands on someone else’s foot or if they simply land next to each other.
Not to mention, like it or not, landing space fouls are almost never called in the paint.
Seriously, I fucking hate watching SGA play, but some of y’all are insufferable.
You don’t have to land on someone’s foot to be in their landing zone. I never complained about the call (or lack thereof). I’m simply saying it’s clear as day he does land in his landing zone.
I don’t seen any conclusive evidence he makes significant contact.
And, again, stuff in the paint gets called way differently than stuff on the perimeter.
You don’t need contact at all to land in someone’s landing zone (but he literally trips over his foot)
Stuff being called differently is irrelevant to this conversation. I simply said he clearly landed in his landing zone. I never asked for a call.
Yeah, I agree - it looks like their legs collide, but you can’t see where he actually lands, it looks like he lands on one foot, and the leg he doesn’t land on is wayyy out. Not saying it’s not a foul, it’s just hard to see his actual landing space impeded from this angle.
Also they’re way more harsh on close-outs from deep - it’s been like that since they implemented the Zaza rule.
this has also happend to shai countless times, and he fell so…
Everyone suddenly understands landing space now lmao
difference here is that SGA literally IS under his landing foot and its why he fell, rather than his standard which is someone is in his vicinity, and he falls to try to bring attention rather then because of the other player.
Also it seems the consensus in the thread is thats fine cause they didnt call it either way? but you got it.
Y’all want to play rough and tough and then complain when you don’t get the call. 🙄
Just want it to be called the same. Fox was called for less than this on a similar play.
Yeah, and Shai is getting bulldozed and not getting the proper call because Carter Bryant’s shoulder “wasn’t low enough”. Just quit the bullshit.
What proper call? You think that warranted a flagrant?😂
Brother, do yourself a favor and avoid arguing with delusional people. Go Spurs.
Just as much as you think your boy “deserved” a call 😂
CB was just expecting a block out and SGA folded like a cheap suit. Can’t be going in soft for rebounds.
Holy shit what a terrible take. You know for a fact if Dort ran at Castle like that you’d be crying for days about it. This sub is just so dumb
Dort would have gone for a knee. That’s the difference between a hard foul and being dirty.
Just the absolute stupidest response you could have. Goddammit such a dumb reply
Get the fuck off this sub then dumbass. Blocked so you can read but can’t reply. Smd.
Bro, there are literal montages of Dort trying to end careers. Just because you’re too brain dead to respond with anything other than trying to downplay my comments doesn’t mean your not ain’t dirty as shit.
Shai saw him coming, and instead of standing strong and boxing out, he went limp and fell dramatically.
How many times do you think the MVP will get fouls from this exact thing in game 7?
Im betting 4 times. 4 out of 9 times he will crumple like piece of paper
