[SNY] Mike Brown says it doesn’t matter who the Knicks will face in the NBA Finals but… “If we played San Antonio, it would save me some money because my family lives in San Antonio. I don’t have to buy airline tickets”
How can you not love Mike Brown?
Have you seen the crazy shit in the King’s sub lol
Obviously I’m biased but it is funny to look back now and see oh yeah, Mike Brown wasn’t the real issue there
Took them to the playoffs for the first time in 16 years, the Kings hadn’t even had a winning record since then, then they made no major roster moves while the rest of the conference was in an arms race. And yet somehow it’s Mike’s Brown’s fault lol. Imagine letting De’Aaron Fox dictate the future of your franchise
Well had they let Fox dictate the future they could have started by not firing Brown: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/44126913/mike-brown-firing-ended-deaaron-fox-sacramento-kings
“fire coach Mike Brown less than halfway through his third year leading the Kings and less than seven months after the franchise rewarded him with a lucrative multiyear extension over the summer – one that Fox had lobbied for.”
“I was like, ‘Yo, I’ve been here for going on my eighth year. If Mike gets fired, I’ll be going on my fifth coach,’” Fox told ESPN. “And I told them, ‘I’m not going to play for another coach. I’m going to play for another team.’”
Yeah pretty sure monk and sabonis wanted Brown fired. Brown was already checked out after Vivek tried to fire him the first time anyway
Everyone who was tuned in at the time will remember how Fox wavered back and forth in the media on this
Can you post a link of Fox wanting Brown fired?
De’Aaron Fox responds to the claims that he was involved in getting Mike Brown fired: “There was never any push back about anything. This narrative of us butting heads or me going to management saying anything is bullshit. So you can run with that if you want to.”
he was pretty pro-brown
It’s exhausting that every time a coach is fire, players get blamed instead of the literaly GM/Owner
It’s like any business. Ownership and executives never take any blame.
Worst is when you had Kings fans acting like Keon Ellis was the second coming of Jordan and that it was sacrilege for Brown to not play him lol
Kings need to avoid guys named Keon. Remember Keon Clark was one of the best backup bigs back then, but alcoholism stopped him from taking the next level.
I genuinely like the dude. Definitely times in his career where I think he’s made some questionable calls but his overall demeanor has kept him a solid B- coach for years now. Kinda reminds me of Andy Reid in the NFL just kinda drifting at that tier until they eventually get that ring. I’ll be rooting for the Knicks for sure.
Andy Reid was a b- coach? Insert “you don’t know basketball meme” here
And he “drifted”. He coached one team for 14 seasons.
…football you mean?
It’s a classic Stephen A meme
Makes sense. I haven’t watched that dude in years.
Kings management sucks, they don’t even understand how to properly build a roster then expect coaches to win. Sabonis is wasting his career there IMO.
Beyond management. Vivek sucks ass.
The dude treats the Kings like a video game simulation.
Anyone he hires is by default, inept, either by ability or proximity
Sabonis move down south a lil bit broski. Lakers could definitely use your 20⁄10 efforts
You can’t build a winning team around Sabonis
You might not, but atleast Sabonis should leave for a greener pasture.
He and his contract will make the pasture brown
Brown made some questionable rotation calls, but yea he was severely hindered by Monte and I really don’t know what true role Vivek had in the end as it was reported that he didn’t even want to sign Brown to an extension lol
He fell on his sword because our GM insisted that he fire an assistant coach to “shake things up” during a losing streak. MB was not the main problem, just the scapegoat.
I’ve been a Kings fan since the 80s, and yeah, we’re a cursed franchise. I’m also a Chargers fan since I hate winning & happiness.
We knew he wasn’t the issue from the beginning it was clearly the team composition. I mean I do not know who thought DeRozan was going to be a good idea in that team.
to be fair their copium is probably the only thing keeping them on life support as Kings fans
My not watching a single second of Kings basketball this season is what’s keeping me on life support
You don’t even have to go that far back. Knicks fans wanted his head those first few games in the Atlanta playoff series
Did you see the Knicks sub 3 weeks ago? Or the Draymond incident
When has it not been crazy though? My first year watching was the Donaghy year. And it’s been rock bottom ever since
Why does his time expire in the places he’s been? I ask that genuinely because truth be told I don’t follow Mike Brown stuff a whole lot but anytime I ever see him in his interviews he’s great
And everywhere he’s been has been good for the teams… At least for a bit. I guess what I’m asking is does he end up being the problem or is it just a situation where “goes to said team, improves team, reaches ceiling, rinse and repeat”? Obviously in this case they are finals bound so doesn’t get much better than that in terms of ceiling reached lol. Winning it all just blows the top off 😂
I think just being straight up impatient with him. Cavs didn’t give him or Bron any fucking help with a legitimate 2nd option. 2nd Cavs stint everyone knew the Cavs roster was young and super inexperienced and somehow didn’t meet expectations when you had an immature Dion Waiters, Kyrie that was super dead set on getting his points and Thompson was good defensively but not really worth the 4th overall pick.
Lakers were probably split in even Hiring him in the 1st place. King’s wanted more from Brown after the 1st year while Monte was willingly trying to get fucked in the ass with the trades and roster moves he did.

Don’t need to go there. I see it here
My sibling worked for the warriors when he was there, and said everyone had universally good things to say about him as a a general presence around the facility. Seems like a genuinely fun and pleasant person.
He was associated with the warriors. I only love 99.9% of him for that reason.
Interesting. I love 100.1% of him for the same reason, so I guess it evens out!
I still don’t understand why he didn’t play Keon.
Cavs didn’t play him either. It’s weird.
I think we gotta use Occam’s razor at this point. Maybe Keon isn’t as good as we think?
He’s not. But he was objectively better than Colby Jones, who inexplicably replaced him in the lineup for a while.
I really like Keon a lot, but he always seemed to commit dumb fouls immediately upon entering the games. It was one thing in the regular season but in the post season especially when the cavs were behind and he was on a really short lead well….
Yep. He also tends to play Free Safety and gamble on steals, which is great when it works, but when it doesn’t, he leaves his team mates out to dry trying to cover for him.
I think those issues are probably coachable, so he’ll probably have a bigger role next season, but not when he was potentially a liability this off-season.
yeah i mean with the cavs post season even games they won they were usually down to the wire and often started off poorly, so there really wasnt much time for him to get in rhythm out there too. hopefully with more time and better discipline he can play a bigger role next year
Absolutely.
If you don’t mind taking the time, what’s your opinion on Hunter? He got hurt just a couple of games into his stint with us, so I don’t have a good sense of what to expect from him. What’s your read on him as a player?
In short he has all the attributes you want from the ideal wing role player, except for health. I think the cavs moved on from him for very similar reasons that they made the garland-harden trade. I hope things go well for him in the future cause I’ve liked him since he started his career on the hawks, but his health just kept being a big question mark
I just want answers 😭
How to spot someone who’s not from Cleveland
Could just be my experience, but I do remember a lot of Knicks fans getting super heated when they hired him saying that Thibs is way better
It was a mixed bag but i think most would’ve agree we needed to move on from thibs in general
people just gave mike brown an undeserved bad rep
Naw, they were heated for sure when Thibs got the 🪓
you say this but go back and take a look at what people were saying when they were down to the Hawks, everyone hated this dude lol
People were unimpressed when he was hired as the Knicks coach.
The number of times I had to read on here that we “fired Thibs with no plan” lol
If you’ve had to pay any of his $47,500,000 career earnings in severance pay alone across Cavs, Lakers, and Kings.
Cavs from in 2010 are shivering
He’s a good guy but as a coach he’s left a lot to be desired at every place he’s ever coached
For real, he is awesome
Crazy. Plenty of people HATED him early this season when rumors were circling that he had lost the lockerroom and Kat and Brown werent getting along. At the time people believed Timberwolves won the Randle/ KAT trade. But as soon as you win, everyone forgets.
Will our hero Wemby prevail to save Mike Browns family or will the evil SGA bankrupt them by forcing them to fly to Oklahoma.
less the price of airfare more the evil of forcing someone to go to OKC
The idea of Spike Lee and Kylie Jenner having to hang out in OKC is very funny.
They survived Cleveland, which is basically the OKC of Ohio
Cleveland always catching strays
LMAO
OKC is like 3 square miles of decent cityscape, 100 square miles of suburban hell
One quarter of downtown OKC is parking lot
Bricktown is pretty sweet, and so is the area around Remington Park/the softball complex.
I thought Kylie was going to have to buy a whole hotel just so she would have a place to her standards in Cleveland. Can’t imagine how she will feel about Oklahoma
Muad’dib points the way to the Courtyard Mariott
LOL
land in PJ, go directly to arena, fly back in PJ. doubt they are bold enough to step foot or spend a night in OKC. i wouldn’t either with their net worth
They could just drive.
San Antonio to OKC on I-35?
Who doesn’t love that drive?
Ah yes, the lesser-known 10th circle of hell
I would love for Knickerbocker fans to sweat their dicks off in SA, get fucked up and eat tacos than to go to Mobilehoma and dodge meth-ridden bags of wieners and try to understand the locals.
Find out tonight on Dragon Ball B
wenbanbama vs shaisis. i think we already know the outcome
Well then Mike, you know what to do.
Raise your hands up in the air. Genkidama needed
🙌 I’m only doing this for Kornet
lol
He got a spawn point in San Antonio or something?
Original Number one assistant under Pop in the dynasty years.
Pop teach bro how to teleport to San Antonio or something? Why does he not need airline tickets?
He won’t have to buy his family tickets to go to OKC. Cause they live in San Antonio.
Ahhhh…. This explains it cuz I was lost like Jimmy
I assume it means he has to buy his family airline tickets to all the games but when it’s San Antonio, they can just drive
Exactly. He’ll just need to pay for flights to New York and back one time.
Lmao I was wondering the same thing. The only explanation I got is that he misspoke and meant to say a hotel instead of airline tickets.
EDIT: People below had a better explanation. He meant he doesn’t have to pay for family members to fly out to watch the Knicks play if they’re playing in San Antonio.
But back to square one, because he would need to fly them to New York. Hence the spawn point question.
yeah but if it’s OKC-NYC he has to fly them to all games. If it’s SAS-NYC he only has to fly them to half of them.
We’re thinking in normal people terms, not fantastically rich people terms. I got caught up the same way lol
Lot of history between Brown and the Spurs. First Brown was an assistant coach there from 2000-2003. Then after Brown took a break from coaching after being fired from the Cavs in 2014, Coach Pop had him hang around the 2015-16 Spurs as an unofficial assistant.
Then in the 2016 offseason Pop put in a good word for him to Steve Kerr for the Warriors lead assistant job, Brown got it, and revitalized his career. Good details in this quality article (not paywalled for me at least): https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2017/05/13/how-mike-browns-life-was-revitalized-by-gregg-popovich-a-sabbatical-and-a-motorcycle/
But why doesn’t he have to fly there from NY?
Edit: oh thought he meant his own ticket lol
He is saying he does’t have to fly his family out to OKC, if the Spurs are in the finals. Because his (San Antonio) family can just rock up to the game.
His family is in San Antonio so he doesn’t need to fly them anywhere if they play spurs
Like half the coaches or their mentors had their spawn point in San Antonio, that’s how long pops been around.
Hearthstone
Brown coaching in the finals nearly 20 years after his first appearance has to be a record
He also lost to the Spurs in his last finals, just like Knicks last finals was also a loss to the Spurs.
I smell double redemption
I wouldn’t even care much about losing in the finals honestly. It’s kinda been in my mind that it just feels like Knicks are going to win it all since they swept Cleveland.
But for the Spurs, Going from lottery team to champions would be a super cool story for sure but I feel like unfinished business would make the team (and Wemby) a whole lot better next year
Also while I don’t think Thunder are Lucifer incarnate like some people , I still don’t enjoy watching them and that aside I would like to see the streak of different champions continue (at least until hopefully Spurs can accomplish that)
[deleted]
I have been watching the Spurs since I was a whee bab. Honestly, I would not mind the Knicks taking this one (At least Sochan gets something, so that would be hilarious). I just want Oklahoma to suffer as any respectable Texan would.
(im rooting for spurs over okc) it would be total bullshit if Wemby makes the finals at age 22, the entire league would be on notice for the next decade
This has been my thought process as well, like winning would be awesome, but seeing New York meltdown, and gives Wemby the redemption arc
Dread them, run from them…
Off the top of my head Phil Jackson has a similar time gap from first finals coached (1991) to last (2010)
Gap between first and last is not at all the same thing as gap between first and second without an appearance in between the two, which is what the comment you’re replying to is talking about. The crazy thing here is how unlikely it is to lead a team to a finals after not doing it for a really long time, contrasting with coaches like Phil or Riley who got there more frequently in between. The longevity of those guys’ success is also insane but it’s not the same convo
Okay but I don’t think that’s at all what OP was claiming. This is more of just a fun factoid. Nobody is comparing Brown to Jackson, obviously
Pat Riley’s first NBA finals was 1982. His last was 2006. He won both times.
Very likeable team overall. Even as a Cavs fan (Cavs in 8!), I would much rather see Jalen Brunson drop 60 every game against the Thunder. If it’s the Spurs, I just want absolute cinema for 7 games.
Wish Cleveland had Brunson or Hart or OG or Mike Brown.
Even of it’s the Spurs I want Knicks to win. Those Texan fuckers will eventually dominate again.
Man as a Cavs fan we had Brown. To this day, respect the hell out of him. I think the days working as an Assistant for Pop and Kerr has helped him become a premier coach.
Kings fumbled the bag letting him go. This is the best version of himself as a coach
The Kings fumbled a lot of things lol. Feel bad for them. At least LeBron brought home a title for Cleveland.
Cavs in 40,320?
Analytically you are already the conference champion.
I think Cleveland would have been okay had it not been for the 2 7 game series. That killed them this year.
To borrow the words of Glenn Rivers, Kenny should have told everybody on the team “Don’t play with your meat.”
New York teams end Cleveland playoff runs far to often for me to like anyone or anything about them.
If the Spurs get knocked out I’ll root for a Thunder repeat or a giant meteor over the Knicks.
(Just jokes. Don’t actually want anyone to die via meteor)
Far too often? We’ve only even played (and beat) you 4 times in the playoffs, twice in the 90s, and twice in the 2020s.
His family owns a plane?
He doesn’t have to fly them to San Antonio
Imagine you’re actively preparing for 2 potential teams you’re going to face in the NBA Finals and you ALSO have to find hotel arrangements for Aunt Meredith and her schnauzers.
That makes more sense than the dumb thing I said.
I had absolutely no idea what he meant either
Me neither. I thought he meant hotels. Like he would save money on hotels. Didn’t put the plane thing together till this comment and even still I think our first instint was right. This doesn’t make as much sense and way more confusing b
think he means he doesnt have to fly them out
Rich people bro this shit didnt even cross my mind
it took me a second because i also was confused as to wtf he meant i thought he was talking about staying at theirs lmao
I was so confused I was like does he mean he won’t have to pay for a hotel because he can stay with family? lol we really are living in a different world than rich people
I assume he means he wont have to fly his family out
how did you possibly get that from watching this clip?
I did at first too. I thought “how does that matter since he himself still has to fly there” - then I remembered, NBA teams have their own planes and they don’t pay for tickets like the rest of us.
They won’t have to fly out to San Antonio, just to NY if they even go
He genuinely be having me crying when the cameras pan to his face when a foul or something is called against the Knicks. He’s a good coach and good luck to him and the knicks in the finals.
Coach Brown I miss you
Either the West stomps the Knicks in 4 or this will be a 7 game epic
No in between
Knicks in 5
Knicks in 3
Why can’t the Knicks win in 4 or 5? I don’t think it’s likely but 2 beat up teams facing a rested team that isn’t injured doesn’t spell a 7 game classic to me.
I don’t think OKC, who I’m assuming will win this series, is as banged up as we believe.
Soft tissue injuries are no joke but maybe you are right and they don’t think they need to play those guys.
i respectfully disagree cause Ajay and jdub’s injuries are pretty real and got to really be careful. Caruso was hurting a bit last game too.
Currently I’m sure they believe they’re playing their toughest opponent they’d face. There’s no way they’re sitting out if they can play. It’s the WCF in one of the most evenly matched series’ in years
Hard disagree. Knicks in 6, win on home court.
Knicks win in 6 vs either of them
But analytically?
No one lives in okc
I do (I don’t)
Knicks have underdog written all over them Brunson and Brown both let go from there teams and now in the finals
Tom Dundon watching this video like, “Man, this guy gets it.”
Still can’t believe the Kings ditched this man.
This man changed my life
“We would ideally like to play the Nets”
Per Shams “Blazers owner targeting Mike Brown to be next head coach”
They get free flights home?
Wait does the league not cover like, basic stuff like flying family out to see the finals?
Knicks in 5, analytically in 7.
Millionaires mentioning saving a few shillings will never not be cringe
move broke that’s how you stay rich
I respect it.
TIL Mike Browns can teleport but only to where his family lives
Fired by the Queens then coaches the Knickerbockers to the finals 😂
Mike knows how expensive those tickets are now
Airline tickets should be the least of his worries if he has to pay for tickets lol how much would a flight cost from SA to OKC? Stubhub has the cheapest games at $3K lol
That is the right answer. The dude is solid.
So is Mike Brown considered a good coach again?
I mean if it goes to OKC he can get a nice charter bus instead of
“I’d rather play the worse team that gives my team a better chance to win”
Mike Brown the GOAT
Dundon thinking it would save the owner a hotel room as Brown can just stay with family on the road…
He looks heathier than he did 20 years ago!
Indeed, if I’m in Mike’s place, I would rather face Wemby than play against refs every game in the series. You can hack Wemby but you can’t even look at SGA.
It really doesn’t matter who we play!
Also they would be a much better matchup haha.
I think Mike brown got an affinity for big ol women
Mike if I’m not mistaken is still on SAC’s payroll
Would save him money from the fines he would get in the post match interviews if he played OKC too
Yea he dont mess around with his money, Jordan Bell got suspended that one time for charging porn and candles to his hotel room.
So that’s why he got swept by the Spurs in the 09-10 Finals with the Cavs
If you have family in a city, you can fly there for free? Is that what he’s saying? How do I get in on this?
He won’t have to fly his family to those games
… Does his family home have a transporter?
I gonna give Brown 👍🏽. Making great coaching decisions.
He has to buy his own tickets?
I love Mike Brown. Glass half full kinda cat.
Surprised OKC even has an airport
questions like this are insanely bait lol. if he answers he thinks okc is a better matchup and they win, then okc can put this up in video review and motivate their players. if he answers okc and spurs end up winning then spurs players will think the knicks are scared of them
My dumbass was thinking how does having family in another state save him on airline tickets when he still has to fly out. Did he mean they would buy the tickets for him??
And then the rest of the brain caught up lol. He doesn’t have to fly that family out to the road games. Duh.
