Ultimately for both WCF teams however it pans out they arent a full strength. Spurs Fox, Harper limited and OKC currently no jDub, AJ Mitchell.

Those factors combined with a brutal WCF puts Knicks in a position of a rest advantage and healthy advantage. Those are very real advantages. 

However I do think Knicks have not played against a single defense in the same stratosphere of either defense. 

So yeah Knicks look great knocking down shots against very weak defenses and subsequently can set their defense, but what does that look like wheb defenses limit them more and challenge them to be better defensively.

I don’t think a lot of people have any idea what’s going on in the East most of the time. I really don’t either, so I’ll just admit that.

The Pacers were seen as bums until they played competitively in the Finals last year. Knicks were right there with that team btw. Suffered a historic collapse in G1, not totally unlike the Cavs this year and still tried to battle back.

This year the Celtics were a hot pick, but got booted early. After that nobody really knew what to make of it.

A similar thing happened to the wolves in regards to their playoff wins against the lakers and suns. They won both series so dominantly that these wins felt inevitable in hindsight and that the lakers and suns were really terrible. In actuality both teams were favored against the wolves going into the series

Same thing happened with the Celtics run in 2024 which is constantly shit on as a fraud path. More than half of ESPN’s analysts had the Mavs over Celtics (and not just the bums, Tim Legler had this). Yes, I think the spurs/thunder sit as the favorites and have been the best all year. They have the least flawed rosters, but the Knicks were top 5 in point differential and despite last year showing some of their flaws (playing KAT & Brunson, two below average defenders, can hamper your defense) teams were unable to take advantage of that. Clearly a good team that dominated at times through 3 series.

I thought the sixers would put up a fight but were ultimately inferior, but the knicks crushed them. Same with the Cavs. That is impressive, they’ve got a shot at beating either OKC or the spurs, but I think they match up better with the spurs.

They can hate all they want, but the playoff winstreak is real, and hard to do regardless of competition.

If you beat the shit out of a team in a series 4-0. There is nothing the losing team can do to convince you that they were good competition to begin with. So basically the evidence for the knicks being good by your standard would have required them to artificially keep it close. Gotta give credit to knicks some way somehow since the opponent just being overrun wasn’t gonna help them make their case.

It entirely depends on how the games actually go. If SGA is injured the whole series and the Thunder fall apart, that’ll get a hugely different reaction than if the Thunder play their best games of the season and still lose cos the Knicks play even better.

Don’t disagree but I also think people underrate that a very similar knicks team played the Celtics and the Pistons last year. They have a lot of experience.

They been through a lot of battles before this year and have been together a long time. Hell three of the starters have played together now for a while.
