I was shocked that instead of reviewing the out of bounds between Wemby and Hartenstein they did a jump ball. The replay showed it clearly out on Hartenstein. Wemby is tall so they won the jump ball anyway, but it was mind blowing to me that the announcers all called it correct, a replay was up on the broadcast before the jump ball happened and they still did a jump ball because the ref crew wasn’t sure who it went off of.

I can see line calls being done by automation like they do in tennis but i dont see anyway anytime soon this being good to detect actual fouling

I also want reviews to be done by a special team. It takes way too long that the refs in game have to go to the monitor to make a decision. Make there a team like at Secaucus and handle all the reviews.

Because VAR has been so good in soccer lol. Hawk-Eye is fine because all you’re trying to do is check where the ball landed on the tennis court.

I know it’s extremely fashionable to shit on AI, but I think this would be a great use case for it. We just straight up cannot trust people to not be biased or be manipulated by outside sources. Assuming they could create some kind of open source system that could be audited for fairness we could really help to eliminate a lot of the guesswork and missed calls.

The only real downside, aside from the fact that realistically they’ll keep that system close sourced, is that a system that’s too good would probably cause way more stoppages, which would be a problem.
