Mason Plumlee’s (SAS) foul against Jared McCain (OKC) at 1:39 of the 4th quarter in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals on 5/26/26 has been upgraded to a Flagrant 1 after league review.
Mason Plumlee receiving a flagrant after a game is the same as if I, a viewer, received a flagrant in my living room.
Luckily it wasn’t a close game at this point. Prob should have been a flagrant in the moment. Don’t think Biyombo’s was anything other than a foul but Plumlees was a bit extra.
Yeah the biyombo foul was fine, McCain just landed awkwardly. Plumlees foul was some bush league bullshit though.
Couldn’t be a close game because Plumlee was on the court.
Nah. It counts towards suspension points, as opposed to, say, Hartenstein’s hair pull that resulted in a completely meaningless fine.
Not trying to hate on dude’s style cuz I don’t think it looks bad, it looks good. But if you have a XXL pineapple on your head you have to expect at SOME point shit is going to get caught and tangled up in it.
Oh yeah tough guy? I’m issuing you a flagrant for that comment. boom.
This just in: u/ThinReply2047 will be unavailable to watch game 6
Brutal. Should have just been a $20 fine.
Honestly, without an established history of this kind of behavior, I think we’re just gonna leave it at a retroactive game 5 ejection.
Thanks for taking one for the team.
Being OKC I am told that McCain just flopped after being touched in the back by a bigger player.
There’s also have to fine us like 1.50 or something equivalent to whatever the flagrant fine is.
Shame hartensteins hair pull never got looked at afterwards
Some deranged ass comments here lol. Surprised McCain has so many haters. He seems like a nice kid
He’s always had haters saying homophobic shit
Yeah being on the Thunder is just magnifying hate that was already there.
Sports leagues and fandoms in the US are hyper-homophobic (and misogynist) to the point where anything that could even vaguely be construed as slightly feminine immediately generates a tremendous amount of hate rooted in homophobia and misogyny. Even if the player isn’t actually gay, just the slightest appearance of being possibly gay or anything slightly outside of masculine gender norms is enough
Saw the same kinda hate for Caleb Williams in the NFL
Thunder derangement syndrome
McCain on a bad team = cute dog scrapping for food
McCain on the Thunders = Hitler’s obedient dog killing people
Because he became a bitch boy flopper on the thunder
loved this kid since he was in philly, really insane how hard people turned on him as soon as he got traded. the way people talk about this team is honestly fucking scary
Honestly I saw people hating on him for painting his nails and calling him gay slurs while he was at Philly
There were a few F bombs in the live thread about him last night. The OTHER F bomb.
Somehow I’m not surprised. There’s def a lot of manosphere types in nba fandom
The Anti-Vaxxers are back these days
Theres a lot of deranged bitter fans out there lol. In another thread about this same thing, it had been up longer, and the top comments were all pretty positive towards him despite (I’m sure) most of those people hating the Thunder. So, it’ll probably even out after a little more time passes, but yeah people are insane lol
The one yesterday? All the haters are gone after a win so the temperament of the sub cools dramatically. Today they are being brought to fight with a bunch of “okc flops” and “okc fouls” rage bait posts.
Personally I like the kid bc he’s got a really charismatic personality and seems like a pretty well rounded dude who’s very comfortable in his own skin even if i don’t understand the appeal of the tik tok stuff or whatever. His response to Plumlee’s dirty play was really mature and applaudable - better than i would have handled it.
Certain times he plays with explosive force like when he went into Wemby’s chest and got that nice lay. Love that. Then after he kinda elbows Dylan Harper in the throat (whatever shit happens, it didn’t seem that bad) and Harper is trying to catch up to him, he flops on his stomach like he got slammed into the ground and gets the call.. that stuff is annoying to watch.
A lot of players do that but I just wish in general the refs stopped giving those calls and incentivized to play with force and incentivized holding your ground.
All this to say, I don’t blame McCain, he seems like a great dude. Leaguewide they need to change the officiating and incentivize the players to hold their ground more
I think he’s catching heat bc people are just sick of the Thunder’s drastic difference of tough physicality + crumbling flails. Then there are the homophobic people who will hate on him irrationally.
You’re right that there’s a lot of deranged bitter fans out there. The Thunder have a historic team but they are not gonna get a lot of love from the fanbase outside of OKC bc it’s kinda lame to watch
Internet Buncha tough guys. Everyone says some shit on the internet
It’s honestly scary…?? Are you okay??? I’m worried about how scared you might be…
Canada flair checks out
Why should he be happy when I’m not!
I personally reserve my hate for exclusively Daryl Morey!
He gets a lot of love too. But yeah haters find a way to hate anyone who is good, or different. This kid seems to be both.
It’s anything which happens to the benefit of the thunder, brings out the worst in this sub.
I mean, a lot of watchers aren’t as invested in personalities off the court, especially if they aren’t like controversial or noteworthy. SGA is super chill off the court. But that kinda doesn’t matter. My opinions about them as “celebrities” is gonna be different than my opinions about them as ball players.
Homophobes and bigots hating on him suck. Disliking how quickly he’s picked up the falling on the floor skill is a bit more understandable lol (he obviously got blasted in this play)
Engagement farming bots.
Was Castle getting his hair pulled ever reviewed
lmfao good one
Yeah, and the NBA said it was cool.
Honestly I doubt it, the league usually sweeps that stuff under the rug unless it’s real obvious and someone makes a huge stink about it. Wouldn’t hold my breath lol
How could Wemby do this?
Dort telepathically told Wemby to tell Plumlee to do this. When will it stop?
This made me laugh cheers
lmao people really out here blaming Wemby for everything. Plumlee’s been making reckless plays for years, this ain’t new.
lmao wemby wasn’t even on the court for that play, but I’m sure r/nba will find a way to blame him anyway
The hit itself is somewhat dirty, but whatever. Saying “I’ve got another one for you too” when Jared kindly asks why he did that is genuinely crazy though…
Honestly the dude’s lucky it’s only a flagrant 1. Saying that after intentionally hitting someone is just asking for the league to come down harder on you.
lol Plumlee is lucky Jared seemed to take it in stride, cause that quote is getting him cooked on every sports show this week.
[deleted]
The league being rigged for OKC is the only explanation
I mean its pretty obvious no? One has a possibility of being an accident and getting tangled up even if everyone has decided that’s not the case. And this came when the spurs we’re giving up on the game and sent in the deep bench players that haven’t seen time the entire series so the intent was very clear.
can’t believe this has to be said
People like to pretend to be dumber than they are to fit the narrative they like
Exactly. Like I do believe the hair pull was at least somewhat intended, but there’s enough in the video that you can argue it was inadvertent. This? Not a chance in hell
Yeah people pull apart that interaction, it only looks AWFUL because it is in super slow mo. It’s totally possible he was swiping down his hand, and castle’s hair got tangled in his hand. It honestly didn’t look that bad to me mainly because Castle’s hair is almost nowhere near where Castle’s actual body is. That interaction in real time is legitimately like .5 seconds.
People are really hindsight Harry’s after they get the super slow motion. Not just that play but in general.
Ah yes, he accidentally got tangled up and grabbed his hair and yanked it.
didn’t grab it, didn’t yank it
We’re really questioning this being a flagrant? Lmfao.
I can’t tell if yall just hate OKC this much or if this is the first time most of you have watched basketball
Bro after game 4 people were making posts praising Scott Foster, this OKC team has broken their brains.
Yep. Zarba was being called the best ref in the league after game 1 because he didn’t give SGA the calls. The subreddit is the epitome of “I don’t care if the Spurs win, I just need OKC to lose”
The point is not that this isn’t a flagrant but that the hair pull is also a flagrant.
This is the whole fucking thing, the calls aren’t being applied evenly, the Thunder have different standards than their opponents, that’s the gripe. If we’re upgrading this, why tf wouldn’t we upgrade another obvious flagrant?
fuck the jordan rules, these are the TONY BROTHERS RULES
Because it wasn’t called so nothing to upgrade. If it was in the last 2 minutes it could be flagged as “incorrect no call”
No they can’t because there is nothing to “upgrade”. What they can do is issue fines or suspensions for unsportsmanlike conduct.
You get out of here with those pesky facts
OKC has different rules to go by
omg the hair thing. bro (a) didn’t grab hair (b) didn’t change the natural motion of his arm, simply © his fingers got stuck in castle’s hair. rewatch the clip, and think about body mechanics: that’s exactly how your arm would move if you were starting a sprint. if castle had no hair tie, ihart’s hand would’ve gone straight through castle’s hair, no problem. in short: there was no pulling hair. there was hand unfortunately gets stuck in hair. y’all big big dumb
Take out ze tiktoker
Lmao the league saw that and was like “nah we can’t let that slide” even if it is Jared McCain
Can’t wait for the overwhelming crash out in this thread
What? This is obviously a flagrant. I don’t know what the fuck Plumlee is thinking.
Plumlee is an enforcer, he did exactly what he’s supposed to do…
I dont think enforcers are supposed to come in at the very end of a blowout and start targeting the smallest most harmless player on the floor, that’s just me though
I don’t think you need enforcing against Jared McCain
But he was dancing, menacingly!
Only argument I got is Harper took a shot to the throat. Would I rather see it against Dort or Chet, yea, but he did throw a cheap shot. You’re not wrong there tho
That’s … Not what an “enforcer” is supposed to do.
Soft
A dirty hit in garbage time after the game is over against a starter is nasty work
That’s what they do. It’s just funny to see people shitting on McCain for literally no reason. That’s a flagrant
Just as Dort does for Thunder
Would be if it wasn’t for the shit that looks like he’s going for leg injuries. Cheap shots and tough are different
Girl the og thread was overwhelmingly asking why tf he’s was going after McCain and not Dort/Caruso 😭
This is a flagrant, unnecessary foul.
But if I were a Spurs fan, all I’d say is that it wasn’t flagrant the 5 or 6 times the TWolves did it in that series.
or when ihart literally pulled down castle by the locks lmao
So what about the hair pull? And what about all the miss calls from the referees? There’s no league reviews for those?
hair pull not being looked at is insane
Because it’s not called a foul. You can’t upgrade a normal and regular basketabll move apparently.
They could try literally anything at all, fines, a tweet, anything
Is this payback for McCain elbowing Harper in the throat earlier in the game?
Oh but pulling hair while someone is jumping mid air doesn’t get upgraded? Both are flagrant 1s
I don’t think the hair pull is a flagrant 1. It’s a flagrant 2. It was unnecessary and excessive.
Agreed, done with enough vigor, it can cause long term damage. Whiplash to the neck. A slip and slamming of head on the ground. Heck with enough force, you can even permanently damage the roots of someone’s hair follicles
Traction alopecia? Diabolical
Ok great, now review and issue technicals for flops
…and hair pulling
If you think Wemby’s elbow doesn’t warrant a suspension but a brief incidental tangle warrants a technical idk what to tell you
Can the NBA upgrade Chet’s foot stomp on Wemby to a flagrant? Or upgrade Castle getting his hair pulled back to a flagrant?
I really have to get off this site
Incredibly dirty, like, there’s no other point to what he did other than to hurt him.
Stay in front of the ball?
Yeah that was nasty. Plumlee had no play on the ball at all, just straight up launched into him mid-air. League got it right upgrading it but man that could’ve ended badly for McCain.
[ Removed by Reddit ]
IMO worse than the Dort hip check on Jokic but hey the narrative.
Spurs were mad they got torched by a role player 😂
Wemby mortal kombat voice “finish him!!”
Yep, I posted a clip of a hard foul from Castle and it got deleted right on queue. Meanwhile a hard foul from OKC gets 10k upvotes
Now do the elbow to harper, the hair pull on castle, the multiple flops into ankles by dort, all the hartenstein arm locks and twists, the mid air shoves by multiple thunder.
I’m just saying the physicality goes both ways. If you can’t see that you are blinded by bias
If Dort would have done what plumlee did to mccain to castle. Castle would have gotten called for an illegal screen.
Two things:
This is justified. They should’ve called it a flagrant during the game itself.
Has any of Dort’s nonsense ever been retroactively upgraded?
Would love to see the play you think should have been upgraded on Dort.
Dort has been ejected for less.
Successful hit
Moving screen
Imagine that’s what you get out of this clip
Actually would have been if he would have flopped instead of the elbow.
Well it should have been. They didn’t call a flagrant in real time, so it was an offensive foul.
That’s not how it works.
That is in fact how moving screens work
Running someone over is always going to be a foul no matter what the other person was doing.
You are unfamiliar with blocking fouls?
No, you’re just unfamiliar with the rules. A blocking foul doesn’t happen without the ball.
I’m not. Moving screens are like rule 12B7 bro.
It’s always a defensive foul when the defender runs over someone setting a screen regardless if the persons feet is moving or not. It’s actually always a flagrant foul and not a defensive foul. You can’t negate a flagrant in the nba. Also a moving screen never happened here since Plumlee decided to just run him over. That’s why I said if Plumlee takes the foul and just falls down instead of trucking him, it turns into an offensive foul. It was a dumb play that served no purpose.
Lol absolutely no fucks given he knew what he was trying to do lol
Gotta say that this is really weird from the spurs
Ahh the ethical basketball wemby preaches about from his ivory tower.
Chill. McClain didn’t complain that much in the post game interview. Was it excessive…yes. But McClain took it in stride. After taking the hard foul, Jared McCain asked Mason Plumlee, “Why’d you do that man?” Plumlee reportedly replied, “I’ve got another one for you, too.” McCain noted in his postgame interview that, “it was just part of the competition, so gotta respect it.” Don’t like the Thunder, but like the attitude of this guy!
I feel like just taking McCain’s word for it that Plumlee actually said that is like a level of naivete I just will never be able to reach. Or did someone else say that Plumlee said that?
Duke on Duke violence? OMG
I’m not going to judge whether OKC needs some hard fouls but if I were I feel like McCain is the least deserving of the thunder for this kind of shit. He flops but that’s the culture of his team and what his coach tells them to do.
Not a good look for the Spurs. The world isn’t ready for the Spurs villain arc.
He got downvoted for the rest of it, but the other commenter isn’t wrong. McCain absolutely elbowed Harper in the the throat and then brake checked him a second later and flopped. I’m not sure he gets any kind of pass. Not that he needs one, but I don’t think it’s fair to characterize him differently from the rest of his team in this regard.
I just want everyone to get along
Now do the guy who sent the hit
Do they plan on reviewing any flops and handing out retroactive techs or nah?
Don’t act like your beloved knicks don’t flop.
Would love for them to be T’d up as well. Certainly wouldn’t impact us as much as your team.
Regardless it would clean up the league and players would stop doing it.
Oh so you’re delusional or blind? Got it.
I want all flopping and soft fouls gone from this league. I want it gone from my team as well. Gone period.
Can you say the same? Or do you benefit from it so much that you want things to stay the same?
I’d love it gone from the game. The problem is yall whining and focused on one team doing it but not saying a word about your own stars.
The other problem is yall act like it’s the easiest thing to officiate and remove from the game. It’s not. What happens when they call a flop on a player that replay shows wasn’t a flop? Then you got people upset that the league is targeting there team.
Want to talk about how the game is slowed down by this foul baiting now? Imagine every drive have stoppage to issue a flopping foul. Or initiate a review to find the flop.
No way they suspend Brunson for G1
cheap shot
That’s the foul that Wemby told him to do, right?
Just kidding.
Wait are they reviewing Hartenstein’s hair pull as well and hold on how about Chet’s foot stomp? Or does it need to be called as a foul during the game for it to be upgraded?
Not perfect to tell from the clip but it seems like McCain stood there to draw a foul, so Plumlee made him pay for it
Kelly O better foul the fuck out next game
Dirty ass team
Okay, has hartensteins hair pull on castle also been reviewed and considered a flagrant?
Game 6 should start with free throws and a possession
As punishment, Plumlee will be required to play meaningful minutes
Ok and now review okc s 347 flops so far in this series and fine them. NBA is so tone deaf. Watching this sport implode before our eyes as the commish goes on tv and condones it all. Encourages it actually.
Plumlee needs to understand that the elbow has to be to the neck, not the back. Ask McCain to show you, he can demonstrate on Harper again.
Should have fined him since a flagrant means nothing to this bench warmer
All flagrants come with fines
I think only flagrant 2’s come with an automatic fine?
Should have forced the spurs to play him 15 minutes next game. That’s a punishment I could get behind
Soft as tissue paper
money was burning a hole in his pocket. Should have saved it for when it actually matters. Silly
OKC haters absolving Plumlee for the cheap shot have fallen off the wagon. Call the WAH-BULANCE
Do they shoot foul shots before game 6? 😂
No jump ball, just foul shots and the ball. Probably a T on Mitch for good measure. 🤣
Now review the other ones
McCain was setting an illegal screen anyways here. He looks back and is moving to try and draw contact. Not saying plumlee didn’t deserve the flagrant but mccain could have just not did what he did either lol.
Moving screen by McCain tbh
So they can upgrade fouls to flagrant after the fact, but can’t penalize flopping after the fact. Clown ass league.
Stupid move by Plumlee. That’s the second intentional elbow thrown by the Spurs in the playoffs. “Frustrated spurs get violent” is not a good narrative for them with refs. OKC wins when they get under your skin.
What about Hartenstein?
Are they gonna take 2 free throws to start game 6?
Got the draymond green treatment
OKC fans calling for Plumlee’s head when Lu Dort exists
Does this mean 2 free throws to start game 6? I’ve never see this announced after a game
No lol it essentially means nothing, he’ll get a suspension if he gets too many flagrants but he barely plays at all anyways
No. It’s essentially a slap on the wrist besides flagrant points
marginal contact
The thunder are the dirty team but the classy spurs are sending guys out their to literally attack guys
So they can review shit to upgrade fouls but cant review to call out flops and fine or whatever
The purpose of this was to do what exactly?
Cool. Now review the embelished ones.
Do it again
But OKC is the dirty team 🧐
The #2 post on the subreddit right now is an OKC player elbowing a spurs player in the neck and then flopping but yeah they just play good clean bball :)
This… doesn’t seem that bad to me?
It was a hard foul. Deserves the flagrant. I think it also looks much worse due to the weight class discrepancy.
This is no worse than what Jordan did to his teammate Kukoc in the Olympics. But it’s 100 pounds of difference
Yeah, I think that’s all it really was. Didn’t help that Reggie is over there talking this up like its the fucking Zapruder film.
Yeah you’re right. It’s def a flagrant but it’s weird to me people think this is like a vicious attack. It’s a body check. Shit like this happens from behind in every soccer game. You get a yellow card and move on.
