We also had the benefit of playing bully ball. No iHart or Caruso and they only had Dort to instigate while Lively, Gafford and PJ were able to be menaces.

To this day I am still mad the Bulls couldn’t get a late first or something else out of Caruso. One of the most valuable role players in the league.

OKC was brutally young, inexperienced and undersized at that time but Shai carried his team on an insane level and nearly forced game 7 before that dumb foul.

PJ Washington would be an absolutely brutal add for either the Spurs or the Thunder. Both teams are seriously lacking in forwards and he would easily fill the biggest need on either team

As much as pundits are motivated to spin alternate narratives, always trust Las Vegas. They have the most to lose. They had thunder at about a 74% chance to win the series and haven’t budged much even with the injuries. Obviously they’re the better team.

The Western Conference could’ve had a super entertaining level of competition, an absolute bloodbath between OKC, Dallas, San Antonio, Minnesota for years to come… and that stupid fuck threw it all away for nothing. That Dallas team was a way better constructed roster than these Lakers.

That was before Caruso and IHart were added to the team and became actual contenders. We never saw full strength Mavs vs OKC. Chet was also a rookie.

Thunder are much better for sure but the Spurs have a limited Fox and a visibly limited Harper.

Game 1 when everyone was healthy (and before the refs got involved) was so fun to watch. We need more of that in Game 6 and 7.

I think the spurs just have more potential so people like to believe in that. Harper, Castle, and Wemby have crazy ceilings that we see glimpses of, so we want to believe that they will do the impossible. The issue is that the thunder just have so many people that are already good that they can throw infinite different line ups depending on who is hot that night. The fact Carter Bryant is getting minutes should show you you the kind of depth they are missing. While he has potential he really shouldn’t be getting many minutes when the spurs are down in the conference finals. If the spurs had a few more bench pieces to put in when one of the starters is having a off game then I think the series would feel much closer. However, if one of the starters is playing bad there hasn’t been someone outside of Harper that really feels like they can be that spark plug like a Caruso can be.
