Underrated doesn’t even begin to tell it. Dude is staying so goddamn disciplined in his scheme. Is genuinely a threat to block shots, is getting his hands in driving lanes and dribbles without fouling. He’s good if he needs to drop, hedge, or blitz. Is recovering correctly so the defense can rotate behind him…it’s honestly been an unimpeachable defensive performance by him. He’s done everything that’s been asked of him and more

I saw a TikTok about how KAT guards the lowest usage guy at a much higher rate than other big men, and how that’s only possible bc New York have guys who can guard 1-5. Not really a fair comparison. Jokic is the main star being asked to carry his team in the playoffs, something KAT has long since proven he is not capable of doing. His success is coming largely off of being put in a simplified role, one where he can focus on his strengths and not worry about having to be the primary offensive threat.

I’ll never get this weird thing people on here have where they’re incapable of praising a player’s excellent performance without also trying to put down other star players.

He’s playing up on screens more than I ever seen, he’s active on passing lanes, hes not leaving his feet as much anymore, he’s improved at swiping at dribbles without fouling, and he’s doing a good job staying in front of his man on an island. That’s not mentioning how great he’s been at contesting drives at the paint as a 5.

Only thing now is the dumb unprompted fouls. Unfortunately, still prone to those.

I’m so sad that we didn’t get at least one game of healthy-ish Embiid vs this Knicks team. Wouldn’t have changed the outcome, but I’d have loved to see the KAT vs Embiid firefight. Embiid partially hobbled made the math untenable because he was getting torched on D and couldn’t punish KAT on the other end to make up for it. Healthy Embiid gets KAT, Mitch Rob, and OG in foul trouble early at least once in the series.
