KAT is a better shooter than Jokic. Both are elite, but KAT is probably the best shooting center ever. His problem is decision-making and shot selection. He can make some really dumb plays from time to time, which you never see with Jokic. These guys were both drafted back in 2015, KAT went first overall and Jokic went 41st because no one actually recognized Jokic’s stellar basketball IQ at the time (and he was completely out of shape). Back then, teams just didn’t have the precise metrics for these tiny things we have now. But KAT is still elite player no doubt
It’s not only the dumb plays what separates Jokic and Towns. Jokic’s footwork is all-time elite, his shooting touch anywhere near the basket is unmatched and his vision is completely nuts. All of this is raw talent, he didn’t work to have this vision, he had it when he played in Serbia. Wether the scouts had watched him enough or not or if they believed in a relatively unathletic big is a different story, the talent was always there.
Scouts rarely blunder, but they definitely missed Jokic. There was actually a summer camp in 2014 where Jokic and KAT played against each other in practices. Jokic reportedly outplayed him, but scouts thought it was a fluke.
He’s faster on the breakaway. He’s a better slasher. As we just saw, he can windmill dunk; Jokic barely leaves the ground when he dunks. He’s more accurate from 3, and just a better shooter in general. He’s got better handles as evidenced from his jab step jumpers, pull-up 3, and face up drives.
Overall, KAT is more like a giant oversized Wing, and because of that athleticism, it lets him do way more. But Jokic? Jokic is a dam engine. He runs the show. That BBIQ lets him be more efficient, and highly effective on any team. He is The ultimate Point-Center.
I don’t see how being able to do a windmill dunk makes you more talented lol are you more skilled to score the ball? Do you have better court vision? Better handles? Better hands and positioning? All of that is talent and feel for the game. Jokic has it absolutely maxed lol no disrespect to Towns though he’s a great player on his own
I think you’re underestimating how much power it takes to leave the ground when you’re as big as KAT and Jokic. Its somewhere in the realm of like 1.8 horse power for a big like KAT to jump even a foot off the ground. Thats basically half a calorie burned just to jump.
And now you have to consider how much height and hangtime is needed to do the windmill portion without losing control of your grip? Thats math I dont wanna do, but the point is, KAT has more raw talent than Jokic. Jokic edges him out thanks to Jokic’s ability to analyze and strategize where a normal person would just facetabk their way through.

Jokic is better in the post but Kat is better off the dribble. Personally I value the post more for a center but it’s kind of a toss up for who’s better at scoring. Jokic is probably the more valuable offensive player since he has better basketball iq and passing (but not much better).

Guys like KAT who can get up a decent shot in crunch time off the dribble are pretty valuable. When GSW won in 2022, Wiggins wasn’t their best player but he had so many clutch iso buckets. I think that’s what the OP is getting at. I’ve seen Jokic struggle in crunch time when the Nuggets needed a basket. A lot of times they go to Murray for that.
In the context of an entire game, of course Jokic is light years ahead because he gets tons of high efficiency looks through the normal ebbs and flows of the game, plus his passing and bbiq.
That all makes sense (even if I’m not sure I agree) but OP also said Jokic is probably better and it’s not even close. Also underrating the difference in bball IQ and playmaking, Jokic is elite at both of those while KAT has his moments, and has shown more these playoffs, but is not really close to Jokic’s tier.
