De’Aaron Fox: “Everything you hear about Victor is true. He doesn’t want to see blue light after 9 o’clock…When we have games end close to midnight, he comes to the locker room with blue light glasses on.”
I heard that Wemby only eat churros if they’re baked and don’t have any cinnamon sugar on them.
Them big ol’ San Antonio centers, Chuck!
Wait Chuck! How he be eating them churros!?
He be double fisting em
now show us how you’d eat churros and drink a shaq soda at the same time
Strike that from the tape!
Whatchu say about Victoria’s Secret down there Chuck
I heard that Wemby drinks a coffee before every nap so that he’s more alert when he wakes up.
Ah the famous Nappuccino
I heard that when Webanyama goes swimming, he doesn’t get wet, the water gets Wemby
weMbVP
I heard that Wemby regularly exercises during the day so that he can sleep more easily.
Wemby wakes up daily at 5 AM saying to himself “the early bird gets the worm!”
That’s just ADHD
In his country they call those “baguettes”, a French word meaning “stick”. The more you know!
Spanish churros don’t have cinnamon sugar on them so he might have tried those as a kid. The baking part though….
its true. Its all true.
The debauchery carried on the churros….
They’re fried dough, no cinnamon sugar (the traditional Spanish/Portuguese recipe)
Obviously a joke
This feels the like the start of Chuck Norris style memes about Wemby…
Either that or I’m just late to the party of them lol
Close enough!
Wemby is just a Northernlion bit come to life
Why not just make the super tall guys good at everything?
+2
Fitting as the bald man likes mentioning Wemby
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gq9Czglw7E
Chiblee, chiblee, they’re eating the basketballs chiblee
+2 and I’m gay
How good is he at Cine2Nerdle?
It’s his body and his choice about when to go to bed to sleep. Unless it’s a banned substance or something, pro athletes are allowed to do whatever health rituals they want. Some of them even work.
If it helps Wemby’s longevity (like LeBron’s religiously icing his body after games, even when he was really young and it wasn’t as fashionable, or the other stuff he does like hyperbaric oxygen), more power to him.
Edit to add: Icing has been popular long before LeBron. I’m not saying LeBron was the only guy who did it, just that he was particularly into them, based on what one of his teammates said.
It’s funny we say “if Wemby stays healthy” and question his longevity because he’s 7’4. Then we look back and the standard of longevity before LeBron was Kareem and he was 7’3.
(I think Wemby is closer to 7’6 and Kareem was closer to 7’1 or 2)
It’s also because he got shut down last season for blood clots.
We were saying that before his blood clots though.
The game is also way more different now and the average player puts a lot more stress on their joints than in Kareem’s day
While true, as long as he can run the floor he’s still effective. He’s too long on defense that he blocks shots without jumping, his release point on his shot is too high for most people to reach. At worst he’s still a good starting center that can disrupt on defense and get “open” shots on offense. Which is better than Kareem was in his later years.
But more players are playing longer. We recently had Steph, Bron and CP3 in the league all at the same time, and two of them playing at All-Star levels
Even more than those guys with KD, Harden, Kawhi, Horford. At that age and/or injury history all of them would have been washed even just a decade ago
True but one of those is a cyborg and the other two are six feet tall. Best comp for Wemby longevity still playing is probably KD, but he plays a far less physical position and game. I hope Wemby can play a long time but unless we see a big jump in sports science, or a lower intensity in his gameplay, he’s far more likely to start fading early 30s than late 30s
He had a few injuries in France including a stress fracture in his leg that people were worried about, and Kareem is just one of one
It’s because he moves like a guard rather than a center. It’s the reason Anthony Davis is constantly injured.
kareem was the anomaly not the standard. lebron is an anomaly too. look back at other 7’3 guys and see what’s standard career length and injury times
Kareem really was. At a time when NBA players would not workout, smoke during halftime, and eat mostly burgers, Kareem was taking care of his body and had his diet tight.
Kareem was listed around that height but he was probably 7’3+ in shoes (other players would often be listed at their shoe height). Ralph Sampson was listed at 7’4 and Kareem was taller than him lol
Icing reduces inflammation 😂
If you’re saying blue light doesn’t have the same level of benefit, I honestly don’t know. There’s some science behind the blue light stuff and sleep. That’s why a lot of new phones and monitors come with anti-blue settings. Or how Kindles and Windows let you turn on “Night Light” mode.
He gets some flour before the games and icing after it. Is lebron actually a cake?
Is that why he gets along with Luka so well 🤔
Honestly this is like the least crazy thing someone could do for health. Sleep is genuinely important. I’m a bad sleeper and I have all kinds of habits I need to keep to sleep well. I can’t imagine being a bad sleeper and then having to play a high stress basketball game until midnight, and then be expected to go get good sleep and grind practice and film effectively.
I believe the anti blue glasses could help and even if it was a placebo that helped him sleep that can work well in itself.
It’s definitely more calming than street racing your super car straight into a bridge at 4 AM
Why is this written do defensively? Nobody is upset about him doing this lmao
I’ve heard that for Lebron the icing was just the icing on the cake
Dude not a single person is making the argument otherwise
Bro is basically health-maxxing but specifically sleep hygiene and I respect it
Now I need The Onion to start writing uplifting stories about Wemby the way they did about Tim Duncan
bro these titles are absolutely cooking me
“Tim Duncan Calls Out Geometric Angle Needed To Make Bank Shot”
spurs unveil statue of tim duncan recycling 😂
Tim duncan fires up teammates with calm, moderated, three-hour pep talk
Tim Duncan hams it up for crowd by arching left eyebrow slightly
I unironically would love it if that one were real
ever since I saw ‘Tim Duncan Maps Out Spurs’ Genealogy After Being Hired As Team Archivist’ it has never left my mind . also a big fan of the one that’s something about him giving the team a pep talk and citing the Battle Of Agincourt as motivation . just the concept of this sort of milquetoast but well-meaning dude that has a ton of hidden skills and knowledge is so funny to me
“Tim Duncan Offers Legal Advice To Wife’s Divorce Lawyer”
We’re missing out on the best one of all time!
“Greg Oden On Final Four Appearance: ‘I’m Happier Than I’ve Been In 30 Years”

The Onion’s archive of Tim Duncan stories is so amazing. They kept that bit up so long. Even after he retired. It’s just beautiful
Scrolled to the bottom and found this, lol wtf.

Thanks for sharing this, I’m laughing my ass off going through these. Love The Onion and somehow this bit missed me. Great stuff.

Aren’t blue light glasses largely ineffective?
They are. But at the same time sleep is largely mental so placebos can work well. Plus most sports stars are highly superstitious when it comes to routines.
Wemby should get laser surgery to blast away all the cones in his eyes
He’s already a large collection of rods, so
https://64.media.tumblr.com/1892e897673a8d0baf97b6134b3e9a0d/1ad7bb9663b2afe3-17/s540x810/6457222c5736cce40b6bd47388842bd171d3d50c.gifv
Anecdotally, I changed my phone settings to 24hr night-shift a few years ago and I fall asleep much better than I used to. I don’t necessarily sleep better, but I fall asleep better.
^I ^also ^had ^kids ^around ^that ^time ^and ^am ^perpetually ^exhausted.
That’s like saying “I’ve been able to save a lot of money ever since I stopped buying food out, I also won the lottery and have a lot more cash”
https://health.clevelandclinic.org/do-blue-light-blocking-glasses-actually-work
Actually, it seems like they are effective at reducing blue light exposure from surroundings and improving sleep quality. They are ineffective at reducing eye strain from screen time, but from what Fox says, that doesn’t seem like what Wemby is using them for.
Man I swear when I started using Reddit a million years ago, the people posting corrections and sources used to be at the top and all the babble comments from people who don’t know shit were (usually) lower.
Ain’t no one trying to spend 10 minutes checking a source and writing a paragraph, only for the response to be “it ain’t that serious lil bro”
So the blue light filter I can turn on for my phone doesn’t do anything? Obviously it’s a filter and changes the look, which I like at night, but in general it doesn’t help with sleep?
Lots of studies say it does help. But I’m not sure what’s true or not. It helps me so who knows haha
He said glasses. Warm and cool light does effect your circadian rhythm
Might help some, but you can still get exposed to blue light from any other light sources nearby. That’s why blue blocking glasses would help more
Yes it absolutely does, your photoreceptors respond to blue light as if it’s always sunlight, and tells you’re circadian cycle to adjust accordingly. Most devices have a setting to turn your blue light off at sunset in your location and that’s what I do. Keep in mind that if you simply plop into bed and turn on the TV that you’re still gonna get a lot of blue light from that.
My sister studied chronobiology and did experiments using so-called “timeless rooms” where participants get put in a windowless room where every lightsouce is covered in red filters in order to check what their circadian rhythm does when it has no blue light to “synchronize” it with the earth’s day night cycle. I’m pretty certain they didn’t do that for the placebo effect.
EDIT: ok I just searched for “blue light glasses” and yeah, most of those wouldn’t do shit because they barely block any light. I personally have very strong colorlite lenses to help me with my colorblindness, effectively doubling as sunglasses, and they definitely have an effect if I keep wearing them into the evening.
If your goal is to reduce eye strain from screens, no they don’t work. If your goal is to avoid blue light to help your mind wind down for sleep, yes they work. They work just the same as replacing the lightbulbs in your house.
Athletes and placebos. A tale as old as time.
Star QBs and concussion water
So many famous examples, cupping, cryotherapy, power bracelets, therapy tape, etc.
Do MLB players still wear those braided necklaces lol?
The wristband you buy at the mall for balance or whatever the BS was
Power Balance
I thought they were just a fashion accessory, had no idea that people thought they gave a stat boost lmfao
Cupping is the one that gets me, because you actually induce bruising for no reason
Looking like weird leopards on the court
Michael’s Secret Stuff
I forgot which flavor of Gatorade that is.
That was different, that was a dumb grift. Wemby’s not out there selling $85 blue light glasses.
“Placebo effect is still an effect”
Anyone remember those bracelets everyone wore in the 2000s? They literally did nothing, but people believed they did. It’s Power Balance!
But “placebo” is real. Wemby believes he creates his own universe. He is absolute main character in his movie. Just look at the half court shot.
Humans* and placebos. A tale as old as time.
Most sleep training is just “tricking” your body anyways, probably has some effect for this purpose
Whether they’re technically effective for better sleep or not, they do make my eyes hurt less.
Not if youre from the Andromeda galaxy
Average height: 8.6 feet.
What my optometrist told me is that blue light glasses only actually filter out a small portion of that blue light, likely not enough to make a difference, certainly less off a difference than what you’d get from just installing something like Flux on your computer.
Wemby is going to make the entirety of SA install Flux on their computers.
Spurs area sets to “relaxation mode” every day at 9pm
Doesn’t the night light mode do the same as Flux
so much misinformation and confusion here lol it depends which type of blue light glasses? the ones inbuilt with eye glasses yes ineffective. but the orange looking ones 100% block blue light. my charger when on emirs a light that’s blue and when i have them on i can’t tell if it’s on or off lol so it def works
That’s just an anecdote of a single wavelength of blue though.
lol i was too lazy to name every instance of blue light that it’s blocked. on my ipad, my brothers video game controller, even various blues on TV. you wanna remain skeptical fine. but i bought very specific ones. the ones i got via my eye glasses at the optometrist don’t do this
Do you still need flux? Windows and iOS have night mode now that provides a similar dim function
On a population level there hasn’t been statistically significant evidence it works. That doesn’t mean they don’t work for a given individual though.
Not if you use it to help you sleep
Even if it’s placebo, athletes tend to stick to superstitions. Regardless, it’s working. He’s regulated himself into a system
Everyone’s just saying stuff, nobody is linking any evidence.
Blue light has a well-validated role in regulating key regulators of circadian rhythms across a very wide range of species:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptochrome
The effect of blue light on non-human species is well characterized:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31504080/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11507175/
Sleep architecture is influenced by a very wide range of factors, making controlled studies in humans difficult, but there is a defined molecular mechanism of blue light suppressing melatonin production:
And several meta-studies and reviews have indicated that blue light blocking has a positive effect on sleep that’s more prominent in sleep disordered individuals (most likely because the effect size makes it easier to identify in heterogeneous populations):
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34030534/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36051910/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30311830/
TL;DR There’s good reason to believe blocking blue light helps sleep: There’s a clear, well-validated molecular mechanism, it helps in non-human animals, and well-powered human suggests it helps.
The only ones that are effective are orange. You can tell just by putting them on and noticing that there is no blue/purple coming through. There are glasses advertised to block blue light that look like normal glasses. Those are certainly ineffective and what most people argue about.
Idk about blue light glasses but blue light filters on computer screens definitely works. I used to get headaches & eye strain weekly at my job and now I haven’t had one since swapping years ago. Also definitely helps making going to sleep easier
Yeah it’s been studied and they are not basically useless.
Only because most of them are a scam, in the sense that they dont actually block much or any. If the lenses are clear, they dont do anything.
I bought some good ones and its insane how effective they are.
nope they work! but dimming lights and keeping a warm setting in your house can work too. your eyes / mind relaxes when you don’t have to stare at super bright lights like that
They ARE effective at night, which is when you want to block blue light to prevent it disrupting your circadian rhythm. The issue is they kept getting marketed as “use these during the work day” which is pointless and somewhat counterproductive because you *want* blue light during the day
The effects of blue light glasses have been studied only on humans
I felt like it helped me. And there is science for why they would work
This is how the “Chuck Norris-equivalent stories” starts, but for Vic. As Shang Tsung, said…it has begun
I want your soul!
“Your soul is mine!”
“Liuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!”
wilt-ification of wemby
Shaolin aftermath?
He’s always been this way.
Make fun of him all you want, Wemby is highly intelligent, committed and determined to be the GOAT. Anyone who thinks his greatness is mostly attributable to his height is really missing it. Spurs in 7.
Both can be true. He has elite work ethic but has a natural advantage due to his body dimensions. He’s got a head start on any center of the same skill level and work ethic coming into the league. That doesn’t detract from his greatness though
If he was average NBA height he likely would still be elite due to his drive, the height advantage pushes him one tier higher into the highest level, a potential GOAT player
Put it better than I could. Pray he stays healthy and we may have a 3 way GOAT debate in 1-2 decades
I know height is helpful in basketball. And…I’ve seen Shawn Bradley, George Muresan, Mark Eaton, Manute Bol and on and on and on
His greatness is mostly attributable to being freakishly flexible and quick while also being that tall. Most guys at that size are clunky and stiff and too uncoordinated for sports like yer average person
I don’t love Fox as a player, but he’s always struck me as a cool dude
best part was Fox saying “i need my blue light” after this
The guy scammed fans out of like 1.5 million dollars, id hardly call him a cool dude.
How so
Yes people who buy nfts are dumb, yes he still scammed people out of a shit load of money
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/3150554/2022/02/25/faq-an-explanation-of-deaaron-foxs-messy-nft-project/
Everyone was doing NFTs without knowing what they actually were. Most likely his agent or business manager is responsible for this. Highly unlikely this was his idea.
For real, it always makes me laugh when people get angry at athletes/celebrities for these NFT/crypto scams. As if athletes are in the know about crypto and are masterminding the scam. They just sign what their agent tells them to sign and see the money hit their account.
I feel like this type of attitude absolves them of too much responsibility. Like, you should know what you are signing up to push. Acting like these people aren’t adults with access to all the resources to find out is what lets the bad actors get away with it
7’4” with LeBron’s work ethic biohacking. RIP league.
Being 7’4” is probably worse for his longevity than Lebrons 6’9” tbf. Don’t doubt him but that’s gonna hurt more than help in long run.
Yes true but freaks of nature exist and he’s carrying much less mass than say shaq who still managed fairly long career.
He’s 7’6”. He’s lying
Nice to see athletes prioritizing sleep. Shohei takes his sleeping routine very seriously too
The ultimate compliment in life
wemby chill
i think he does ice baths too
I’d like to see the worlds longest bathtub
What is this blue light they speak of please?
Light coming from electronics, being exposed to it before sleep hurts your sleep quality. The blue light glasses however are pretty ineffective
RIP my sleep. I usually fall asleep while watching TV
He doesn’t want to see OKC jerseys under the arena lights. He wants to beat them in regulation and go home
It’s awesome that as we know more about him, he’s shaping into a really unique blend of weird smart kid but with a bravado of an 8 ft basketball demigod.
I think even if he wasn’t tall and athletic, he would’ve succeeded elsewhere.
Must have picked that one up from monk camp
Kobe stories at 22
Some may poke fun at it, but this is approaching LeBron-levels of taking care of his body, and look at what that 41 year old just did this season.
I really hope Wemby gets a long career.
So he is an alien.
Alien rumors confirmed.
Wembys locker is a faraday cage.
Victor is the new Bill Braskey
Wemby is 500 years old and sleeps at an inverted 270° angle
No sugar wemby
He needs to stay healthy. Please. As a basketball fan, I’m here for the Wemby era.
Can he help Melo with how to dress too?
Chills
The nba is in trouble. Unless he gets injured he’s just gonna keep getting better
The moment he refused to glaze Deni he became my goat
What’s wrong with blue lights?
👀
“Blue light” is present in sunlight. In its absence (theoretically, like after sundown), a gland in your brain secretes melatonin, which is the hormone that makes you sleepy.
Unfortunately, we’re exposed to all sorts of artificial light sources (phones, TVs etc) which also emit this blue light. If you’re watching TV late at night, your brain interprets it like it’s still bright outside, and suppresses melatonin secretion, which leads to difficulty falling asleep.
Not sure how well these glasses work - in general, avoiding screens for an hour before going to bed is good advice to help your sleep quality.
22 years old. Wemby can be the GOAT.
Victor Wembenyama is the Chuck Norris of Michael Jordans.
Wemby is learning bass guitar so he can play in Gojira.
No one ever said pro athletes were smart, no sir.
How can he be a better human being, when he’s an alien?
Buying blue light glasses now because lookin at my phone for too long has been hurting my eyes lately. Thanks Vic!
Just get off the phone by midnight will do incredible things for you or at least don’t scroll while you’re in bed. Your sleep will be better and so will your eyes.
God I hope Joan Berenger is listening to this. Hahaha
His sleep routine has confused me because why not have it be midnight with games often making him stay up boast 9pm? He could have the same schedule but never disrupt it
What? I don’t get it
So what’s the bad part about blue light?
Players should absolutely take good care of their sleep schedule and routine but just for the record, blue light is completely a myth the sun produces so much more blue light than anything human made can do, screens are only disruptive because of their light and the content you’re watching on them
lol bluelight is negligible.
Need more players like Wemby unlike Zion and Ja.
such a clown lol
We are so lucky to have a young kid who’s this serious about his health.
