Not really. I think he’s a better writer but his lead character is a mega-Mary Sue and he seems to have written himself into a hole he can’t dig himself out of like GRRM. But Sanderson writes flat characters and video game dialogue. It’s impressive how fast he pumps out huge novels, but the novels themselves aren’t impressive.
I’m with you. He’s like the Michael Bay of fantasy with great action sequences, but flat boring characters.
He writes books that feel like video games, which is probably why a lot of his fans like them. But the writing is just not good - bad prose, flat characters. Not for me.
