Fox is one of the most underrated defenders in the NBA. He gambles too much and he doesn’t have the size to defend wings but he’s so fast and has a lot of range and length to bother SGA. Between him Castle and Vassell the Spurs can throw a lot of 1v1 looks at the Thunder.

Fox on defense is one of those “on-off” guys. Think a guy like Kobe Bryant. Obviously not saying Fox is as good of a defender as Kobe, but Kobe had a switch he turned on when he needed to be a dawg on defense. And sometimes Kobe got lazy on defense rightfully so because he was carrying such an offensive load.

Fox is definitely a great defender when he wants to be and when he needs to be locked in

Exactly my thoughts. I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing, but drawing parallels with football (soccer, if you will), it makes no sense to have stats based solely on group-stage games and separate stats for knockout games. I don’t know why the NBA does that

They’re both different challenges. Regular season records demonstrate baseline talent since you’re able to perform even while travelling around the country playing endless games while jetlagged. Playoffs demonstrate what you can do against the best teams in a ring fight seeing the same opponent over and over.

Yes but if you include playoffs then the record could go to even less deserving players. Players who score a lot but don’t make the playoffs. So they never lose their streak 

People separate regular season from playoffs because back in the old days, like ancient basketball history days, the things like championships or playoffs were additional games that everybody else didn’t get to play in, so they felt it unfair to count those in a players cumulative totals. “Everybody plays 82 games” was the logic. 

Of course now the modern nba star doesn’t even come close to playing 82 games in a season, and their streaks aren’t considered to break if they miss games, so the things have lost their meaningfulness. Lebron scored 8 points in the finals but we had to hear about his 10-point streak that wasn’t real for another 15 years

This is a ridiculous thing to say because SGA’s presence is often what allows these role players to thrive. If defenses are not reacting to the pressure that SGA applies then the role players do not get the opportunities that they do. It’s why prior to tonight (stats on nba.com haven’t updated) in the playoffs he was third in assists per game, second in potential assists, first in hockey assists, and second in points created off of assists.

Defenses have to adjust to Shai and that had been the case to an extreme degree in the Lakers series and the first three games of this series against the Spurs with the constant ball denial, full court pressure, hard doubles and blitzes any time he moved inside the three point line, and the multiple sets of eyes on him at all times while he has the ball. Of course this is going to make his numbers look worse because he’s facing harder coverages but it is in turn allowing the “bunch of random no name bench players” to get incredible looks and opportunities, as evidenced by the Thunder having the most wide open three point attempts per game of any team last round and having by far the most wide open three point attempts per game of any team this round up to game 3.

SGA easily looked like the best player on the floor against the Suns and even though his numbers have been down these last two series, his creation and impact on the team’s offense overall has been immense.

Brother I’m all for OKC hate but they have the deepest bench in the NBA, their bench warmers would be second options on other teams.
