Tim Duncan talks to Gregg Popovich, and Victor Wembanyama talks with coach Mitch Johnson
It’s crazy to see how fast life goes by.
Life goes by too fuckin fast, it really does.
unexpected chair company quote hell yeah
Rollin me down the highway
that song is so damn good man
timrobinsonwhatthehell.gif
Stop looking into the chair company!
I fake laugh every day for ten minutes, so that when I die and relive life’s little moments, all I see is happy times.
“The days are long, but the years are short”
I tell that to my daughter sometimes, and she repeats it without really knowing what it means, and you can tell she’s trying to figure it out, lol. She’ll learn someday, she’s only 4 now, lol.
“One day you’ll pick up your daughter and put her down, and will never do it again” Life!
What. What are you fucking doing to me. Don’t say shit like this. I think I just had a breakdown.
You might not always be able to pick her up, but you’ll always be able to wrap your arms around her for a hug, so hold on to her tight when you get the chance. Those moments are fleeting.
nah. You can do what I do, start lifting heavy, so that way you can lift her for the first 20-25 years of her life.
Girl might be 50+ lbs and over 4 feet tall, but she still will sit on my shoulders for an hour at stores lol.
What you’re saying doesn’t go against my quote, lol. You just extended the time
I think the most sobering thing about aging is watching other people grow older. I don’t mean watching the same actor in movies released 50 years apart. I’m talking about actually knowing someone when they’re 35, and knowing them when they’re 75.
I realize this sub skews fairly young and a lot of y’all simply haven’t been around long enough to experience this phenomenon. But please, don’t take for granted your own time or the time of those around you. One day you’ll catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and wonder where it all went.
It’s crazy. I just had my first child, and I’m ten years older than my dad was when I was born, and my dad’s almost 70 now. I’m not ready to lose my parents, but I know it’s coming. Just gotta make sure my daughter knows how much I love her every day.
My mother passed away when she just turned 58 years old. (from COVID, out of all reasons). I thought we would have at least 10 years more together.
My wife was pregnant at the time, and it will forever be my regret that my daughter and my mother did not meet each other. My daughter was supposed to be my mother’s first grandchild.
The love I received from my mother, I just pass on to my daughter, and more. Time flies by so fast, and we gotta tell and show our loved ones that we love them every single day.
My mom passed 12 days after turning 58. She even walked to the hospital with my dad after that bday but never got better.
Crazy to see a small similar thread just browsing late at night. Kudos to you for passing the love on.
This year will be 20 years since I lost my dad. My mom turns 60 this year. She was a young woman when she lost him and has lived another two decades after losing the love of her life. It’s crazy the curveballs life throws at you but my mama is one hell of a motivator to all of my family
As a person thats lost both parents, no one on earth has ever been ready for it. My dad told me for a long time he wouldn’t be here long but 20 years is pretty damn good. You have time and youre making it count. Thats all that matters. When they do pass, remember everything they taught you and hold that as a reminder that they aren’t gone, you just don’t see them
Jesus Christ I didn’t know I’d be finding the deepest truths of life in the nba subreddit.
Everyone reread this post
I’m in my 40s and watching my parents age is the weirdest shit.
I appreciate those words. I believe im hitting the halfway point right now so I appreciate hearing that
Once you hit 40 it feels like someone put a turbo charger on time…and it just gets worse year after year after year.
I was 27 yesterday and now im in my 40s. Make it atop already 😂
as a 27 year old, please stop
i’m gonna turn 30 in a few months, and i never thought id be alive past 25.
My freakin best friend kitty cat is like 12 years old already😢
“The Gods envy us because we are mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we are doomed.”
That’s how I’ve felt in my 30s. Feels like just yesterday I was in my late 20s and now I’m quickly approaching 40.
I think the turbo charger starts whenever you have kids. Especially after the second one haha
Shit I’m about to hit my 30s and it already feels like that.
Tim Duncan is just out with load management right? He ain’t retired…
Hey, I remember watching most of Mitch Johnson’s games as a point guard at Stanford. I feel old
I remember watching his dad play for the Sonics.
I remember watching his ancient ancestor crawl from the primordial ooze.
To give Pop credit, it took a stroke to final get him to stop coaching. He likely would still be their HC if that didn’t happen. Tim too because he played for 19 years. They were there for a long time.
Man I hated the Spurs growing up because of how much they fucked up the Nugs. But I love Timmy and Pop. Such a beautiful thing to see. Tim will always have the up most admiration and respect from me.
Not to be that guy, but totally being that guy. It’s actually “utmost”
For intensive purposes
Dude I was saying this the other day!! We’re almost halfway through the year. Couple more days is June, that’s 6 months. It doesn’t feel like 6 months flew by like that!
Its crazy that for me, im 30, have a wife and kids, changed jobs a few times, so much has changed in my life. But one the thing that really puts it into perspective for me is seeing how old nba players are now that I watched when i was young.
Don Popovich with his consigliere
to this day I wonder if Popovich regrets subbing Duncan out in G6 2013.
He is on record saying he shouldn’t have done that.
He has said that it was a mistake on his part, but I doubt he dwells on the regret since they won in 2014
Unless he’s talking to Gary Neal or DeJuan Blair
I know I don’t. The agony of 2013 made the triumph of ‘14 all the sweeter.
When Pop first came up coaching the Spurs, his first few years he made some real game-losing substitution decisions and there were definitely times when he continued to do that throughout his career.
IMHO he could at times be too smart for his own good where he’s thinking about shit ten steps ahead and playing chess when he should have been playing checkers.
Of course the times it worked out nobody remembers and people barely even notice when it happens, but when it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work spectacularly.
pepop “guardiola” popovich
real ones just chuck shit at the wall sometimes
Would not have mattered. Duncan would’ve played diaws role and challenged LeBrons 3. He would not have been in position to get the rebound.
Also spurs would not have won 2014 if they won 2013. But would’ve been nice to see Danny Green finals mvp lol.
I’m not going to say you’re 100% wrong; the Spurs never went back to back, but that 13-14 team was so good, I really don’t see them not winning. Dallas took them to 7 then they killed everyone else in those playoffs. Average margin of victory was 20.4 PPG. The OKC team that gave them issues at times during the tail end of the Duncan era was the thinnest it’s ever been. Relying on big minutes from washed Derek Fisher as a 6th man. Wade’s knees were shot and the Heat couldn’t pretend to stop the Spurs beautiful game.
Maybe they win 5-7 fewer games and go in as a 3 seed. They still beat the Warriors, Thunder, Clippers, & Heat.
Pep to take up a job with the Spurs after leaving Man City?
El Jefe with his lugartenient.
Great work by Scorsese
“Get a couple of guys and dig a hole in the desert and let ‘em show you where it’s at.”
“And when I’m ready, I’ll say: Go see the flopper.”
“And if ya keep the camera rolling… Shai fell funny”
Absolute cinema.
A Scorsese directed basketball movie about the Spurs dynasty would probably go extremely hard.
In the late ‘70s, Scorsese directed the concert film The Last Waltz, in which he had to create a “nostril floating matte” for Neil Young, because from the angle he was shooting Young, you could clearly see a coke rock stuck in his nose hairs, and Young’s manager raised holy hell until Scorsese promised to erase it in post.
Your comment got me wondering what the Spurs movie equivalent of that would be.
I could see him making a Pat Riley movie.
It would be hard to top what the showtime show did.
Hate that show got cancelled right as it was hitting its stride
One coach goes one way and the other coach goes the other way.
The only nba scriptwriter I can get behind
Im a simple man. I see coach pop and tim duncan, I cheer and get teary eyed
Same, my old Spurs heart loves to see it. So glad to see Pop going to games.
Unrelated, but I always love seeing your Fiesta colors here and r/livefromnewyork
I always notice your username on various subs as a huge Parks and Rec fan, glad it’s mutual!
Cutest shit I’ve read all day.
God get a room
There is way too much wholesome shit going on around here, I need to get out
I was a hardcore Suns fan in the Nash era and HATED the Spurs. Even my heart loves to see it.
Bro you beat me to it. If I’d have seen Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan or Pop in person in like 2010 I’d have thrown a shoe at them. But time is undefeated and even I can appreciate what these guys accomplished together. It may have taken 10+ years but this warms my heart. Especially as the new generation takes down literal basketball terrorists.
Love your pfp so I stole it ❤️ Spurs in 7 baby!!!!!
Glad he’s better and Timmy is helping with his recovery
Spurs retained Pop and a lot of the older star champs have been at every home playoff game, life is good
I just can never believe Timmy chose that hair his entire career when he could’ve looked like this lol.
Same man. That’s the nba I grew up with
Pop looking pretty good too, so nice to see. One of the coaching GOATs
Yeah, he’s definitely looked like he’s improving as of late I’m glad he’s getting to enjoy this playoff run from up in the box, he’s put in years of hard work he deserves to enjoy and relax a bit
1999 Finals recap could happen - Spurs vs. Knicks
Coach Pop and Tim Duncan were in those finals… and won it
Like that scene when Vito was coaching Mikey in Godfather.
even if i have no clue who they are, im still a sucker for these images of “big/strong guy showing absolute respect to his old/feeble commander/master”. its both powerful and sweet
Pop is really a Player’s coach type of guy.
He didn’t shy away from black crimes and struggles when people told him to shut up and coach. Pop moved Murray’s mother out to San Antonio on his own dime after she was shot. Pop didn’t mention it to the public, Murray did.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/-rmHxFfwYW4
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5SB2PrUAI08
He encouraged players to take care of their family and put things into perspective.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/LJU_hEPi3fU https://www.youtube.com/shorts/bGxoAzyZDNw
Pop yelled at the Spurs fans for booing Kawhi Leonard.
Pop made sure players got good deals on trades and what not.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/V6CnnhT4UI0
Keep in mind NONE of these stories are coming form Pop, he just does it and keep it private. These stories only came out via the players themselves or other people in the know.
Amen brother
I love this clip. Has me cheesing to the highest degree
Just a single camera cut tells a story of Spurs history.
Crazy to think Wemby could be even greater than a potential top 10 player in TD. spurs are so blessed man
Agree that Wemby has the potential to be even better (we’ll just have to see). But Duncan is far more than a fringe top 10 player imo. 2MVP, 3FMVP, 5 championships, among other things, put him above the likes of Kobe and Shaq.
“I dont wanna hear a top 5 list without Duncan in it” - Boogie cousins.
Not to mention he holds the Nba record for all defense team with 15. He was All defense his first 11 Or 12 seasons including his rookie year.
I haven’t even mention his All NBA and playoff records in rebounds and blocks.
The Big Fundamental is perpetually underrated
You’re sniffing cat urine?
What are the chances. I’m literally watching an episode of South Park right now 😭
BRAVO VINCE
As a life long Laker fan, Tim Duncan was always my favorite player.
I still feel like even with all the praise he gets, Tim Duncan is still underrated amongst the goats
In a all time starting 5, he lines up at PF.
I think maybe at some point he was but I think he is properly rated, most people have him in the top 10, I don’t think he is top 3 or anything
He is top 5, but gets rated as top 10. That is underrated.
Sucks that Duncan didn’t rock that hair during his playing career.
I swear if Duncan had this hairstyle during his playing career he would be higher in the GOAT list a couple of spots for the aura alone. Feel like the ‘boring’ label really hinders his ceiling in the all time debates.
Slo-mo replays of his 12-foot turnaround bank shots would def hit harder with that hair flying
If he had that hairstyle, he would probably be higher than Kareem on the all time list.
I think the Ray Allen three affected his legacy a bit more than his choice of hairstyle….one shot away from going 6 for 6 and matching MJ. Ironically may have impacted the GOAT debate more than it has in reality. MJ aura has a lot to do with that 6 for 6 record which would be less impactful if another top ten player did it as well.
If they win in ‘13 there’s no guarantee they would have had the drive to come back and win it in ‘14. So many of the guys from those two teams said it was the letdown in the first finals that drove their entire next season
Okay, but what about Kareem with the chinstrap beard a flat top?
He definitely looks incredibly cool now, but knowing Timmy I’m just wondering if he was rocking the buzz cut because of practical reasons - less sweat and hair not getting in his face.
It would’ve held back his aerodynamic dunks
KG woulda yanked on that shit all game.
Maybe Popp wouldn’t have let him
He looks like he just walked in off the set of ‘The Matrix’, I love it.
Only some stuff you can hope to dream of in a biopic
Literal dynasty
Just like old times🥹
All of us and Pepperidge Farms remember…
passing of the torch.
Don Corleone and Michael Corleone discussing the war with the five families, circa 1955. Colorized.
brings a tear to my eye ngl, two legends
Master Yoda and the Jedi council overlooking the young Padawans.
Past and present. Pretty cool.
Good shit by the director
Pop is looking better and better.
I love Tim Duncan.
Chills
I wish Duncan had that hairstyle when he played. Badass look
Would have got in the way of the fundamentals.
looking like the predator out here.
now let’s see wemby in that hairstyle
oh god, the thickness of it
Okc would be pulling on them thangs
pop looking healthier these days, good to see him back in action
Cinema
Camera man saw his opportunity
Reggie stepping on the segment is so fucking funny lmao
“Now listen, whoever comes to you with this Barzini meeting, he’s the traitor.
Don’t forget that.”
Good to see Pop is still engaged
What a great storyline the Spurs are in.
I admire Timmy. No drama, no ego. Just the perfect team leader. And Pop was the perfect coach for a guy like him because Timmy respected him and understood what it means to be “coachable”.
Cameraman understood the assignment
Spurs history right there, so cool
Man I remember Duncan being unstoppable. The dude destroyed everyone, even prime Shaq when he was guarded by him.
Netflix has their moneyshot
Coach Pop and Duncan
Coach Mitch and Wemby
The next generation!
academy award-winning caliber camera move over here!
Timmy lost his dad a long time ago, so I imagine Pop has taken on that role to some extent…
33M here who grew up in the Lakers/Spurs era. I didn’t watch the game because I had work. This video literally made me cry for the first time in a while. Life comes at you fast.
Absolute cinema
If you don’t like Coach Pop you are not a good person
Great shot and telling a story. Mitch and Wemby are about to complete a hell of an arc in NBA lore.
Why does only San Antonio has that family/brother vibes in the NBA?
Pop got a damn leather recliner . Legend
These two really make me proud to be a Spurs fan. And Wemby is right there with em
It’s like poetry. It rhymes.
Thats one of the coolest things ive seen
pop and tim is really a hall of fame pair.
I can’t stress enough how much I love the legacy of this team.
Good team structure, respect and listen to your legends.
The fact that these guys still sit around the organization is so fucking valuable.
Whilst Mark Daigneault pops his chewing gum
I would love a documentary of the Spurs history/Dynasty one day, would be fire!
I really admire the leadership at the Spurs. I think they’re benefited from a little rigging (not more than some other teams), but I think that they draft for skills and leadership and it shows. They get guys to buy into a very effective program and achieve lots with it.
The Spurs are such a goated organization…
Pop looks like John Kramer
time flies
Time really does fly by!!!
Seeing Pop makes me smile
Its like the jedi council.
Beautiful and so much more ethical than OKpee
If Pop was with the Spurs as GM a year earlier and they never get Rodman and he puts at least one or two more decent guys around Robinson and Avery Johnson comes back a year earlier I think they win the title in at least one of those seasons without Jordan.
Rodman refused to help on D with Olajuwon and was obv an offensive black hole (even though he could actually be somewhat competent offensively when he cared to be).
And of course, the rest of that 94-95 Spurs team was terrible outside Robinson, Elliot, and Avery Johnson, which left David to have to run around like a chicken with his head cut off all game, every game, while also defending the best opposing player in the league all on his lonesome.
The 93-94 team was a million times worse with its supporting cast.
If he transitioned to GM directly without leaving or came back a year earlier and they didn’t make the Elliott trade and didn’t get Rodman and had Avery Johnson a year earlier, all of which he would not have done, I think they win at least one of those titles.
Really cool moment
It’s good to see Pop doing well
I once was the youngest at work. After 37 years, I’m the oldest and they call me old fart.
This whole org loves each other and I’m here for it
It does my heart so much good to see Pop doing alright. Bless that man
This organization radiates class
Super glad Pop is looking better!
Pat riley needs to learn from this.
Woah
He looks like lil mosey
Fuck the Spurs, but respect the fuck out of that dude. Hated playing against his teams over the years. Goat for sure.
Wow.
What a highlight.
…..
so happy seeing duncan
Player talks to coach. Player talks to coach. Same Same.
You know, if Kawhi never leaves, the Spurs never get Wemby.
foreshadowing
It’s absolutely unfucking fair to have one of the top three coaches of all time consulting with one of the top ten palyers of all time on your sideline.
Timmy is probably over there like “four down right side of the block.”
Director/producer doing their job well (at least for this segment).
https://static.klipy.com/ii/8ce8357c78ea940b9c2015daf05ce1a5/c6/4e/gSPAwnpg.gif
Spurs can’t keep getting away with all this success and likeable guys!!!
Legends
I can only cry so much in the morning
