I was a doubter. He had a good run in the playoffs last year, especially against the Celtics, but he was so passive in the regular season (and last regular season) that I figured he just had a hot week or two.

And then the playoffs started… And he sucked.

And then he found his aggressiveness and exploded into the 2-way monster he is now. If he does this again next regular season, fans like me have enough sample size to know that he’s capable of doing this.

If any three guys can make life hard for SGA one on one (presuming it’s Knicks vs Thunder which is not close to locked down yet,) I honestly believe it’s those three. I feel like you can still try to double him, you just need to be on-point with your rotations, which I think the Spurs have not done. There’s so many more you can do with double-teaming as a strategy that I feel like the Spurs aren’t just executing well.

Like, the Thunder is just dumping it off once to whoever and they’d get a clean shot, which is a terrible way to double-team anyone. At least make it harder smh, force the Thunder to swing the ball around or even force SGA to make cross-court passes or something. That the PG is the only one racking up assists and the Thunder still gets so many open-threes is a crime.

Being able to defend him one-on-one is a nice thing to have I agree, but I don’t think the Spurs have even done a good job executing their current strategy. Though I must admit, I’ve only glimpsed some of their games.
