Mike Brown: “I don’t know what to do about the free throw line. 22 to 6 in the 2nd half…it’s a pretty big discrepancy for a half…maybe we were fouling and they weren’t fouling”
Elite move to complain postgame even in a double digit win. Brown is in playoff mode
Remember when this guy brought a laptop to his postgame press conference to complain about refs
He’s saving that bag for the finals
He’ll bring a dual monitor setup
Wheel in the big crt TV on the cart like it’s elementary school
Can’t it’s a fish tank now
Especially if we have to play y’all…
Pulls out that nano screen Ironman invented time travel on.
I’m still mad about that game.
Pat Bev with the camera move.
bron was so fouled in that play too
It was a much needed win also after they got rid of westbrick
haha I remember that. As a neutral I never liked Brown based on his personality from the little bits I saw him (including what you’re referencing)
happy he’s our coach now and really doing a great job.
True. But he’s right. KAT can’t buy a foul. He had the worst whistle in the league but especially this series. He got fouled three times on a single drive to the hoop tonight.
I’ve just learned to accept that KAT is just never going to have a good whistle. Saves me a lot of yelling at the TV
What if we simply give KAT a whistle and he just blows it himself?
Instructions unclear, KAT fouled out in first quarter.
Been there.
He’s also not getting called for a lot of the bullshit he got during the regular season.
Theres that…at least.
I posted in here I didn’t remember a bunch of missed calls to be upset about - but now that you mention it I do remember a few Kat drives I thought he got hit and didn’t get the call. I think I’m just used to that though, refs rarely give him calls (unless it’s against him calling an offensive foul)
one of the worst whistles in the league
I feel like it’s a mix of him appearing to be slightly out of control on his drives, and when he does create contact, he complains about the no-call (IMO justifiably) and the refs don’t take him seriously, creating a vicious cycle.
yup 100% agree. he’s a guy that will complain (on both ends) even when it’s not justified and refs are human so he’s earned a rep that works against him.
Makes sense, put it out there and in the minds of the refs before going on the road for game 3. Where most would assume the whistle will be even more in favor of the cavs.
Yup. Knicks had 18 more points in the paint and 22 fewer free throws
Refs need glasses. They can’t see reach ins, only flops.
I like brown but verdad im geeked
He’s going to have an all timer press conference in the Finals if they play the Thunder.
all the replies to this being thunder fans with a trillion downvotes is funny af 😭
I want NY to win it all so I can sit in my bed and watch absurd videos on my phone.
It’s going to be wild. I know a guy who said if the Knicks win he’s going to try and steal a police horse on 7th Ave. This dudes in accounting
There was a funny street interview asking what they would do if it means the knicks win it all, some dude said he would cheat on his gf, then he thought about it, and with his eyes and mouth full of hesitation and pain, he said: “I might even suck some dih” with his friends going crazy around him.
Some knick fans really want to see their team win.
The Knicks are so good even Tony P from Staten Island is finally coming to terms with why he’s so lightheaded in the men’s locker room
He’s going to get shot, isn’t he
As someone who has been to at least one playoff game since 2021, i dont know if i’m ready
After game 1 i left the bar and people were running in the middle of the fuggin streets, shirts off, screaming and random people i left the bar with ran to join them.
Is the world ready for this crazy timeline? The city of NY is crazy
You’re in luck. You can do that regardless of who wins.
Towns only getting 2 foul shots is a little silly
He got fouled 3 different times on a drive
I watched Towns for years. He probably has the worst whistle in NBA history. The refs hate him.
Unless he’s setting illegal screens, then the refs love him.
It’s shockingly bad. My theory is that it’s because he looks kinda uncoordinated(maybe there’s a better word?) on his drives, so they just assume he’s out of control and don’t blow the whistle.
No he constantly looks like he’s falling and then he takes 3 more steps some how.
And his face, bro looks like hes fighting for his life on those drives
Bull in a China shop
He looks incredibly uncoordinated but still somehow puts moves on people and gets to the basket. I don’t understand it but I love it
And Rudy. That Timberwolves front court got sfa
sfa?
Stephen F. Austin
If towns had half of embiids whistle he’s a top 10 player
If my couch had Embiid’s whistle, it would be in the league.
That’s Curry, but we get what you mean
Timberwolves fans are living and breathing the Leo pointing at the TV meme this playoffs when it comes to KAT, lol
It feels so vindicating to have another fan base recognize how absurdly awful his whistle is
It’s maddening. Marginal contact my ass.
OTOH there was a section of our fanbase (me lol) who were POSITIVE he’d start getting a normal whistle once he left MN
He undeniably has the worst whistle in the league
It’s terrible they let guys do whatever they want when he’s driving or establishing position
I always understood the stray voltage. I didn’t love it, but I understood it.
Worst whistle I’ve ever seen
Worst whistle for a star player and it ain’t even close. The crazy thing is that his whistle used to be significantly worse in Minnesota. I used to think it was Steph, Jokic, Lebron but they at least get stuff like illegal screens, push offs etc. to balance things out. KAT gets nothing.
Ant still getting that minnesota whistle
Ant is way too strong, he goes through contact too well for the modern nba.
Never flops but people will still complain bc he says “ay ref” on his drives 🙄
And he really doesn’t even do that often anymore
That’s not homerism, either. He legit has the worst whistle in the league.
that goes to steph lol
Steph can’t get a foul call when teams are intentionally fouling at the end of games. Shit was crazy to watch
Steph hit a corner three to go to ofertime with New Orleans in the playoffs and they got smacked out of bounds on a three and they didn’t call a foul because he made the shot 🤣. That told me he was never getting a whistle
the ref even told him after the fact that they would have blown the whistle if he didn’t make the shot!
Waiting for someone to say the line “the moving screens makes it okay to maul steph all game”
One day the refs will put some respect on my guy.
Thankyou.gif
Getting assaulted at the rim all night and the refs just look at him like he’s crazy.
Story of his fucking career man.
He’s too egregious with his sells.
Refs give him the “come on dude” whistle
The Cade Cunningham Experience
I genuinely think players like Cade or Kat get shit whistles because of how strong they are. Cade is so good at playing through contact (same with Kat) that the refs just swallow it because affects him less.
He gets the worst whistle I’ve ever seen
Especially with how aggressive he was tonight
He needs to practice the yelling/head snap back move
Brunson can show him how
brunson took his first FTs with 4 minutes left in the 4th. foulbaiter extraordinaire
TBH I thought this game was pretty well officiated 🤷♂️
The Cavs defense was so bad in the second half that the Knicks were mostly wide open. And the Knicks subs had like 5 dumb fouls in 2 minutes to start the 4th.
Yea it was really on the 2nd unit being absolutely brain dead and putting them straight into the bonus. All of them were fouls except maybe the Shammet blocking foul was questionable.
All those dudes played like absolute dummies during that stretch on both sides. Luckily Brown just put the starters right back in.
Great coaching from him. Nipped their comeback right in the bud
Shamets foul wasnt a foul at all. Mitchell lost the handle without any real contact
The Shamet blocking foul just straight up wasn’t a foul at all, no clue how it got called.
Rest of the calls were legit fouls though, just bad decisions by the second unit
Only poor officiating IMO was how they treated KAT. He couldn’t get an and-1 to save his life even though Mobley and Allen were hacking him
He was flailing like a flag in a tornado during that stretch. What were you watching?
Strus grabbing brunson’s jersey and bear hugging him then being shocked at the call was funny
i thought he was intentionally fouling him LOL
Well he was shocked because they’ve been mugging us like that off ball the entire series without a whistle lol.
Not the 4th quarter but it was decent for the first 3
4th quarter it felt like they were trying to kill our momentum
Yea there was a moment where the lead went from 15 to 9 points, then Mike put Bridges and Brunson back in and it stopped in its tracks. It’s not taking a lot tbh, but he’s definitely out coaching Kenny
It always seems like a bad argument to just go, well they have a lot more free throws than we do, so something must be wrong. It would be funny if the refs review, and they were mostly on point. They might come out the next game like, fuck this guy
The cavs defense is atrocious, it’s like they all just stand around lol. Not giving up the baseline is basic grade school basketball but the cavs are like na drive that shit all day long.
I mean, sort of? They have some good wing defenders and they have 2 good interior bigs, one of which is elite.
I felt the same way watching them: they don’t look all that active on defense. But even in this game, the Knicks only had 109 points.
That’s because the pace was exceptionally slow this game. Knicks had a 122 offensive rating, which would’ve been roughly tied with the Nuggets for best in the league this year.
Tbh I don’t think Brown cares whether it was or not.
Putting pressure on the refs to watch the game differently is what matters. Gotta get every advantage you can.
Of course. He should play the game. He’s been on this kick all playoffs. Nothing to lose
Bruv, I was losing my mind watching the start of the 4th. Just dumb foul after dumb foul, putting themselves in the bonus with 9 minutes left.
They’re lucky the Cavs went on to miss 10 FTs or this might have been a different story.
Yea the bench was playing like it was garbage time already when it was only the start of the 4th and the lead wasn’t THAT big.
Silver clearly wants an Oklahoma - Ohio NBA Finals, but the Knicks just won’t let them get away with their Midwest bias
To play a bit of devil’s advocate he isn’t complaining, he said he needs to figure out what to do about the FT disparity. He didn’t blame the refs, he said we need to figure it out, maybe we were fouling. He was literally reading and commenting on the stats of the game one of which was second half free throws. I know it’s really easy to say he’s crying about it, but to me that didn’t seem like he was dwelling on it or even calling out refs. But that could just be me as a Knicks fan looking at it with blinders.
I mean yall weren’t getting to the FT line because most of your shots were wide open thanks to our patented phantom defense we like to pull out in late game scenarios.
Nah I think you’re right
I agree, he has been very reluctant to discuss or complain about the refs in his time with the Knicks. It’s one of the reasons I like him, he’s not constantly bitching to the refs like some coaches do, despite KAT getting hacked constantly and called for offensive fouls no one else gets called for.
I think everyone’s in agreement here
It’s gonna be even worse next game so be ready
You’re in for pain. Hopefully Tony Brothers isn’t calling one of your games.
You just know we’re getting Scott Foster
Nah they need foster for the next Spurs OKC game. You’ll get foster game 4
Gonna get both back to back. Sometimes The Extender needs help.
We have an 80% win rate in the post season with Foster 😂
Wait harden can get worst?

It’s even more impressive the Knicks are winning all these playoff games without shooting a bunch of free throws, Brunson is the only Knick that gets foul calls
brunson shot his first FT with 4 minutes left in the game. so he wasnt getting calls last night either lol
Brunson Mitchel Robinson is the only Knick that gets foul calls
Brunson is averaging 6 FTA/game in the 2026 playoffs.
Refs really tried their best.
When they accepted their offer, they gotta follow the script
I mean not really. Cavs just didn’t foul a lot because they’re trash at defense and play with no physicality outside of little spurts here and there. There were a couple super obvious missed calls/incorrect calls on both sides though
I can point out 4 KAT drives where he got hit
On the plus side, the team still won by almost 20 and didn’t look all that stressed while doing it.
Bing Bong.
I’m not sure about the fouls .. but what I can say is that Coach Brown was visibly upset with the officiating this game after mostly being calm on the sidelines the entire season. It was uncharacteristic of him tonight.
the only team i remember him talking about it against was OKC in the game with that insane no call on shai
The Cavs committed 20 fouls that were called and the Knicks committed 22.
I don’t understand why people use FTA as a proxy of committing fouls when PF exists in literally the exact same box score.
Because there were obviously drives where the knicks got hit with no calls. Mitchell had to foul Brunson like 4 times before they even called it and the ref was right there.
How many intentional fouls did the Cavs commit - 4?
The differential was 2-3 in favor of the Cavs for most of the 4th quarter.
Yes and how many Cavs fouls were intentional, 4 of them?
Because not all PFs are equal. Watch the game and not the box score and you’ll understand why FTs are closer metric to how well the game is called.
I didn’t say they were all equal.
But they make a hell of a lot more sense to look at than FTAs do when we are quite literally talking about fouls committed.
Fouls commited tells you even less. Refs can call 4 fouls on you per quarter and you could still give up 0 FT’s. 16 fouls called and no free throws. They can call offensive fouls that don’t result in FT’s. They are aware of which players have how many fouls and aware of the bonus.
Refs absolutely manipulate their calls to present things a certain way “20 to 22 fouls called” yet one team almost 20 more FTA. That was deliberate.
We’ve seen multiple clips this playoffs of someone like SGA driving to the hoop against minimal contact and the ref just stands there watching the ball to see if it goes in or not and when it’s clear that it’s a miss THATS when he blows the whistle.
Refs are just very inconsistent man one min they’re loose with their whistle next minute they’re tight as fuck
They are conductors. If the game is progessing too quickly, whistles come out to slow the game. Need to get in those 800x Kalshi ads somehow
😂feel like we’ve been having discussions about shitty referring since time immemorial
Bitching about the refs has gotten more annoying than tanking. It’s every single game now.
Facts, like they speak it, but goddamn let someone be better than someone else at basketball
Pistons fans: First time?
Just commenting to say shout-out to Mike Brown who got a ton of heat all season, coming through in the playoffs
The finals are going to feel like watching two teams from two different sports play against each other if the thunder advance. It already does in the west. Spurs play basketball. Thunder play some other sport.
KAT is a hard player to officiate
Why?
He creates a lot of contact and drives a bit out of control. I’m a flairless Knicks fan
Is that not the kind of behavior that normally gets rewarded with whistles?
Same thing vs Pistons. Cavs attempted 217 FTs to the Pistons 122. Knicks have an offense though lol
Did Brown even watch the Cavs last series? Its been like that for a minute now.
Out of context this definitely seems like complaining, but watching the whole press conference Brown basically read the entire box score and commented on every facet of it lol
He said like a minute after this that if there were a couple of things the Knicks could work on in this game, one of them would be keeping the Cavs off the line, he’s really just making an observation here
Glad it’s not just us
22 to 6 in a half is hard to explain away regardless of what actually happened. if mike brown is saying it out loud, refs should at least address it.
FWIW, we don’t complain much as we use to during the game which is nice to see. We use to get so bothered by it that it would ruin our rhythm, now the boys just assume they won’t get the call and play through it.
Remember the shamet “foul” that even the announcers agreed was all ball?
Honestly I may take a trip to New York if they make the finals. Need to be in the city if they win.
Pretty clear the refs were trying to get things close
Nah. Can’t cry about it now. When it was 30-10 every game for us yall told us shut up and stop fouling
This discourse is always so fucking dumb
I grow tires of talking about the refs. I’m over it
Yeah I guess I would too if I had to watch other teams play this far into the playoffs.
It’s got nothing to do with it. And I’m actually rooting for the Knicks
You need to learn the difference between free and three
Oh but when JB complains about the whistle he’s just a whiner
Watched the game. The Cavs got fouled a lot. And still missed half the FT
The beginning of the 4th was a bit absurd. They called 4 fouls in like 2 minutes on a lot of soft contact.
Overall I don’t remember anything too egregious as far as missed/bad calls.
Cavs played pretty soft defensively and knicks played physical. The discrepancy does stand out especially when you consider 4 of the knicks 14 FTA were intentionally fouling mitch. And I think another 2 were late when the game was over and they gave some frustration fouls.
Fortunately the Cavs missed a bunch of FTs especially in the 4th when knicks weren’t scoring well and Cavs had gotten back in the game.
Complaining about fouls after a 15 point win. Shut the fuck up lol
at this point i want to hear one of these guys go up there and say, “well we were expecting to lose this game due to officiating, the NBA needs to extend this to a 7 game series to a maximize profits and the refs dictate that through the whistle”…in Browns case he can add, “but we’re the Knicks, we know they want us in the finals so we can sleep easy knowing they got our back”
and won anyway!
I can get behind some of the ticky tack foul calls being debatable. What isn’t debatable are the obvious foul calls that aren’t called against Cleveland. I mean Mobley passed the ball from the first row and they swallowed the whistle somehow. The officiating is not consistent. Knicks are winning 5 on 6 rn.
It didn’t even feel like that much of a difference because the Cavs kept bricking their free throws. Also, the Knicks were getting more wide open looks instead of contested drives.
You were fouling a ton. That’s what happens when one of the two teams is playing aggressively.
It was why you guys were also up by double digits. The Knicks wanted that win more.
The new complain about fouls every postgame interview meta
The Cavaliers shot significantly more free throws than the Knicks but the Knicks also committed some pretty stupid fouls at the 2nd half. Thankful, the Cavaliers had a bad free throw shooting night and the Knicks defense and offense kept them in the lead and won them the game.
guess coaches complain even when they win now.
This post isn’t allowed. It’s about fouling and not about the Thunder. Doesn’t this sub know anything? 🤦♂️
haha! love the little shot at lebron
Perfectly normal in the WWNBA.
Basketball is not fun to watch with all the flopping and crying every game about free throws.
A bit like soccer. You have offensive players jumping into the defensive player to try and get the And 1. I wish they would get rid of the offensive foul hunting.
Was the same discrepancy, but in favour of the Knicks in 2nd half of game 1.
Not. All. Fouls. Get. Free. Throws.
It’s not that hard to understand. The fouls were basically even.
If I speak I’m in trouble
Thunder Knicks finals is gonna have an all timer press conference if NY loses game one. Brown might get himself suspended for the series
If man is going this hard in a game against the Cavs that they won by double digits, lord help the NBA if they face the Thunder in the finals.
You think this is going hard on the refs?
No but you don’t hear any of this stuff after a double digit win usually.
Just getting ready for those whistles to change in cleveland.
Stop whining, you won. Don’t bitch and moan when you win.
Didnt the knicks only commit THREE fouls in basically the whole first half? Crying about fouls in a win is insane to me. You gonna really try the refs after they have been letting you get away with playing dirty?
One day people will learn that FT discrepancy does not equal an officiating discrepancy.
Probably not. So many of the Knicks fouls were on guards defending Mobley/JA under the basket. No shit the Cavs are going to get more FT. It’s almost like….. they foul more! gasp
Alright come on, you won the game don’t bitch about the refs
