The Cavs don’t have manpower to adjust to the Knicks ‘next man up’ mantra. EVERY Single rotation player can potentially go for 25+. The Knicks Depth is insane.
Knicks made such a big point to focus on depth, and it’s showing dividends. Even after last season, when their starters starting falling apart, they went out and got key bench players to make a deeper team.
I think have a coach who doesn’t run their starting five into the ground and trusts the bench has been a big difference.

The regular season was disappointing. He gave the bench more minutes but the offense didn’t really change to Thibs. ISO Brunson was still on the menu.
That only changed in the playoffs.
And he trusted the bench in the regular season so now these guys are comfortable with the rotations in the playoffs.
It was brutal watching Thibs adjust (after all the players wore down in the ECF) and the team just looking lost because it was the first real minutes these units played together.
The funny thing is that this was supposedly their biggest weakness: no depth.

I think the general consensus is he’s not perfect and has his down moments but what we really appreciate is that he’s able to learn from what’s working and make adjustments, but without overreacting. Playing through KAT unlocked our offense so he stuck with it. Game 1 of this series the adjustment to Shamet won us that game and he stuck with it when it was working. Yet, Game 2 he didn’t overreact to the first 3 hart misses and let him keep trying. Deuce and Shamet weren’t having great games so he went with clarkson more. Etc.
He also corrected the biggest complaint about thibs which is he leaned on the bench during the regular season and experimented with lineups, so now those guys are showing up because they’ve gotten run all season.
That’s good to hear. I like him because he seems like a positive dude and I loved him when he was on the Warriors bench.
Hopefully it goes well for him in future seasons too unlike the Kings. Seems like he has the locker room’s support too which is important.
They’ve gotten run and the starters got rest. We dominate 4th quarters, especially now because the other teams are gassed, and our guys are relatively fresh.
Feels like the regular season was an experiment for him. Up until the last game we still didn’t understand his offensive and defensive schemes. Now he just seems locked in. He makes the right adjustments and has been excellent in the playoffs

i’m happy he made the adjustment to run the offense through kat, i hate he didn’t try it more in the regular season. people can say he was hiding it for the playoffs but it still caused some unnecessary tension in the locker room and kat was vocally unsure about his role
the best thing about his coaching this year has his been usage of the bench throughout the regular season and playoffs. making mcbride, shamet, clarkson look phenomenal. wish he tried more double big with kat and mitch but it’s working

I honestly believe that by the end of the Spurs/Thunder series, whichever team advances is gonna be exhausted and down at least one if not more impact players. Not to say the Knicks should be favored against either, but the winner being in the west is not a foregone conclusion. That being said, Knicks need to win in 6 or less and hopefully stay healthy for this to really be a factor

A lot of variables at play. Assuming we can sweep the Cavs and the Thunder/Spurs spend 7 games beating the dogshit out of each other, I think we have a genuine shot. Would rather face the Spurs since we’ve matched up well with them this season (re: the NBA Cup) and Mitch has been a pretty good Wemby stopper, but really it’s a Scylla and Charybdis scenario.

General consensus for us is Spurs after a hard-fought series. Obviously Wemby is terrifying and will more than get his, but between KAT being one of the few bigs both able to draw him to the perimeter and make plays as a passer with Wemby on him & Mitch’s defense and ability to still rebound over Wemby we actually have ways to slow his roll. I think we beat the Thunder 2⁄10 times, and the spurs 4⁄10 times, but with how hot we are right now what do I know
