[Highlight] Compilation of Carter Bryant hounding SGA last night
carter bryant
had me clapping loud last night waking up my youngest lol
With name like that your man is destined for greatness… but jokes aside, I was late 2 work because of the game and i took all of it on the chest. Was worth it!
This is the way
the entire spurs team just played phenomenally. Seeing a young team work together like that was so refreshing.
Pause?
Loved his intensity, he was strapped onto SGA and deserves a lot of credit of the MVP’s poor first half performance. Saw Wemby giving him praise during the game too
Bro should be proud, whole spurs unit should be. They played some of the best basketball I’ve ever seen.
Maaan. I wish i was a neutral so I could enjoy this game to it’s fullest. Being a fan of the Spurs, watching that game last night aged me 20 years lmao
Yeah but being a spurs fan also means that Wemby logo 3 hit harder. Worth it
I’ll admit when Champagnie missed the shot, i had exited full screen and had started moving my to close my browser. Before I clicked it Jdub missed that running floater followed by that wemby three. I hadn’t felt that jubilant since my first time having sex
fair weather goddamn
i gave myself chest pain from screaming so hard out of sheer exhilaration when Wemby hit that shot
It was so stressful man. Every damn possession was fought over
There’s no neutrals, everyone hates OKC. We were all nervous as hell
No neutrals. Fuck OKC
Best 20 years of your life lol
Stand proud, i shall never forget you for as long as you live
this guy is a fucking rookie btw
1 year ago he was getting ready to get drafted, fast forward a year and he’s going 1 on 1 with the 2x MVP
We also gave Dylan the ball and just said ‘go score’ vs the OKC defense. Just crazy amount of responsibility for the 2 rookies
Not even just that, Bryant looked completely lost on the floor pre ASB, dude was +14 in 10 minutes yesterday, his development might be the craziest of all this season
Personally I think he was just scared. All those calls from pop must have calmed him down.
Dope nicest guy Popovich
Literally hangs out with the chillest dudes
But does he wear the freshest clothes?
Pop?
The freshest.
Loved how he was all confused about people being scared of pop. Real your grandfather was not my father moment.
He’s said as much - he was pressing early in the season because he was worried about earning playing time. Pop helped him have the confidence to relax.
Sending him to play that full G league game in Austin seems to have done wonders for his confidence too. He hasn’t left the rotation since coming back.
The couple G League games he played also seemed to help calm him down
Freaking 7 steals by Harper last night. Wildly capable. These guys are all so fun to root for.
This is why I don’t like it when star rookies stay at a tanking team for years and years and the next time they manage to build a contending team around them they’re like 27 yo already.
Hopefully the new anti-tanking rule discourage this kind of multi-year tanking.
I mean it got the spurs wemby, castle, Harper. Some teams just have a plan and can develop their players to fill out a role.
To be fair getting Harper was never the plan it was just bad/good luck with the Wemby DVT.
Not gonna lie, I keep forgetting that Dylan Harper is a rookie because he’s already so good
And Harper put up 7 steals. League is fcked
Gestures broadly
And this is your MVP?
He’s so raw he was basically unplayable at the beginning of the season. Halfway through he started getting like 10-12 minutes a game as a decent 3&D player
Really wish he had stayed an extra year at UofA. Everyone knew he was gonna be a great one. Glad he made the jump though and is coming into his own.
he was really really good but the thing that really has hurt sga last night and in these playoffs is ball denial is really effective on him
He’s got KDs problem in that he’s a little passive working off the ball, and will give up position too easily and just go get the ball up the court.
It’s because both him and KD are score first players that are relied on to also play point guard. SGA is capable of playing that role but he would benefit greatly by playing with a Chris Paul or Tyrese Haliburton that’s capable of getting him the ball in positions where he can score.
The Thunders offense just isn’t centered around Shai operating without the ball in his hands but they’re going to have to find easier ways for him to score if they want to win. The Spurs are just making him work so hard on every play.
Imagine Jokic with SGA (at least offensively)
That OKC defence would help cover Jokic’s flaws so much
Yeah this is just playoff basketball. Tony allen would really give sga problems
Tony Allen would give anyone problems lol
I could take him
Up the ass? Maybe. On the court? Hey, you never know who’s behind a Reddit account.
Tony, you are such a dominant player, no way I would challenge you on the court. Unless you had something else in mind?
Tony Allen is like if you fused Dort and Caruso. Absolute menace lmao
Especially a health plan administrator
CB did this to Flagg as well early in the season. He’s a dawg
Yeah, even the LAL played him well. Smart did a great job making him uncomfortable. He had a pretty mediocre series, by his standards.
They just didn’t have the depth to deal with everyone else, for a 48 minute game.
SAS is gonna make his life even worse because they have the depth.
I know its very “bicycle grandma” but if caruso didn’t have the game he did, thunder get blown out.
That’s one of two things I see, for sure.
The other is that when he gets an angle on his defender, he’s hesitant to put up his crafty finishes from below the rim because he’s afraid Wemby will eat them. He’s usually very skilled at finding a way to scoop a finish past a defender riding his hip, but with the Wemby factor he’s getting an angle on Bryant but not completing his drive.
Shoutout Andrew Nembhard for showing the way
Marcus Smart did the same thing and arguably more effective, the Lakers did manage to subdue SGA substantially. The Lakers simply lose on the depth squad battle after the 2nd half.
He was +14 on only 10 minutes
My god. That’s bonkers. And he spent most of that on Shai so they weren’t hollow minutes.
He was incredible. And as much as the PoA defense deserves credit, you can’t help but notice Wemby roaming on every single of these clips.
I know it gets talked about all the time here, but to see the way he affected the game last night just by being there, vs the best team on the biggest stage. It’s crazy. Shai definitely tries to get some slithery stuff up or goes to draw the foul on some of these clips if it’s not for Wemby.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen one single player have the same impact Wemby did last night in the 20+ years that I’ve religiously watched basketball. Unbelievable.
And got robbed by the refs with their usual quick whistle for Shai
Spurs had 10 more FT’s than OKC. SGA has games he gets all the calls but this wasn’t one of them. It was a pretty fairly called game.
Relative to the whistle OKC usually gets, true, but there were a lot of calls that kept OKC in the game.
I don’t know how anyone can watch that game yesterday and come away with the opinion that the refs were favouring OKC. It was about the best reffed game of the season.
let’s put it next some Dort compilations
We’re doing basketball vs football videos now?
Dort has quietly gotten his minutes slashed
I think OKC, going forward, is going to trot out whoever is hot from three. Dort got pulled because he kept clanking it with Victor leaving him open. Caruso did his thing defensively, but what kept him on the floor was he was hitting those open 3s
Can’t be bricking those open triples like he was in the first half.
It’s the only real way to consistently counter Victor man. You have to play 5 out against the Spurs
That’s why Hartenstein lasted all of two minutes. Wemby was just pitching a tent in the paint.
Yo, pause.
wasn’t the only one pitching a tent
yes I was very surprised to see little Dort or Hart out there
The best part about him / this is his center of gravity. He’s always positioned down never allowing shai the advantage to even have a shot at a successful push off if he tried to.
He just bounces off with the appropriate amount of force to stop the drive but not allow limb flailing. Incredible defensive performance.
He’s Carter, the Oobleck Hooper
He also isn’t trying to get back in front of shai. He’s just on his hip and making his life difficult till wemby comes over to help. At the same time shai can’t go left cuz carter is there. That helps wembys rotation.
Exactly. He’s not trying to stop him by himself. He’s just eliminating half of his game to make the team defense easier/better.
Amazing job not getting greedy and sticking the hand in there. Shai is way too good at catching guys in the cookie jar and drawing a cheap foul. Incredible veteran move to eliminate his left hand and driving him where you want him without fouling.
GREAT point. Normally defenders would need to worry more about being beat to the basket, but Wemby just erases that. So he fully focus on just hounding SGA, and taking away the midrange.
Which is such a good place for an omnidirectional jitterbug like Shai - and speaks to the luxury of playing defense with wemby lurking
Yeah this is the most impressive thing as a rookie, SGA is incredibly skilled at recognizing when a defender is slightly out of position and being able to draw a foul or use his body for some space, but he never even attempts a flop or a shot in these clips meaning he never saw a weakness he could exploit right there
This reminds me I noticed the same thing with Wemby because Wemby is so tall, Shai’s forearm goes into his waist lol creates no threat to Wemby’s balance
Like Bobby Hill’s go to move being neutralized by Peggy
SHE BLUFFING FINISH HER!
Less Harrison Barnes and more Carter Bryant and they’ll be a better team in the coming years
CB already plays more than Barnes as of late
Lowe said one of the most praiseworthy coaching decisions of the season was from Mitch when he benched Harrison Barnes in favor of Champagnie midway through the year
Barnes was coming off the neck more than CB, but then Barnes got hurt for a short time. Never really got his minutes back after that. He’s played more during the playoffs because of his experience, but CB is the future in that spot.
So pissed our front office passed on him, CMB, and Coward for Hansen.
man that pick…
Him and harper did a great job on Shai for being 2 rookies against the MVP. Didn’t let him get into his rhythm at all and only bit on one pump fake -> FT by Shai
Man, before he bit on that pump fake he absolutely locked Shai tf up. Was fun to watch
Spurs GM almost instantly picked him once he saw Carter Bryant still available at pick 14. Tbf, he was very raw to start the year but he just kept improving as the year went on. The turning point seems to be when he did his short G-league stint. After that, he became noticeably more impactful
we wanted Carter bryant badly and were going to try and trade up for him if he didn’t fall to 14th In the draft.
It worked out perfectly that Carter and Dylan were already good friends going back to high school
Sounds about right. I wonder what Brian Wright would’ve offered in that case
His in season rate of improvement is pretty wild honestly.
This dude is a problem
Tremendous foot speed, lateral quickness and balance
they have their rookie andre iguodala
Multiple anti-shai weapons, NO anti-Wemby ones
Light skin Kawhi lol
I was just thinking how his development from a raw project, to becoming a polished menace really mirrors kawhi’s development during his first couple years in SA.
Of course kawhi is much much better, but the similarities are striking.
Kawhite
It wasn’t that long ago, maybe a little over a year, that Carter Bryant was on the bench at Arizona. Now he’s clamping SGA in the western conference finals.
Ball is so much more fun to watch when the officiating is reasonable and consistent
Seeing defense like this gets my dick hard
is it bad im still full mast from last night?
What a luxury to have off the bench. A rookie POA defender who can stay in front of a 2x reigning MVP. Generational lottery run from the front office, and yea they tanked to get their picks but they also hit on each pick.
Spurs front office needs to be studied in a lab. Outside of the obvious gimme picks like Duncan and wemby, they’ve been striking gold on late first and 2nd round picks for 2 decades, and its kinda crazy. A reminder that hall of famer Manu Ginobili was drafted 57th!
I mean, they kinda striked out the year with Jeremy Sochan (I’m still find it hard to believe how quickly he slipped out of rotation), Blake Wesely, and Malaki Branham. Also Primo didn’t work out even for teams after us that gave him a chance. Also Luka Šamanić was a real swing and a miss.
That being said the team front office seems to be connected in a way most teams aren’t and I would love the doc series ha!
The point of my comment wasn’t to say that we hit on all our picks. You only have what is available to you. My point is that the hit rate is historic, especially finding talent on late picks that everyone else misses.
The best batters in baseball history only average 35% or so, as an analogy.
Man, this looks like wemby highlights to me. Carter Bryant played aggressive, a lot of these plays, shai gets past him but just has to dish when he sees wemby in the paint.
Almost like Carter Bryant and Wemby are on the same team and are trying to defend together….
Making the offensive player move into help defense is also a skill
yup our wing defenders can play with confidence knowing Wemby is behind them, so they can focus on not fouling and forcing difficult shots vs a ‘don’t let them get penetration’ mentality
Its the same with Castle. They cant guard SGA 1 on 1 but the double funneling him towards Wemby is what’s stopping Shai
this is how they win.
double him when you can and just have someone who spends all of their energy on defense clamping shai. spurs in 4
He played great defense, all night. Harper and Castle too, any time they got switched. You see all the arm work he’s putting in, the stuff everyone hates us for and cries should be fouls (but I don’t think should be), without swiping at the ball and hitting Shai’s arms. It’s super disciplined and difficult to keep up for a whole sequence, but dude was getting it done all game. I was very impressed.
So the Spurs got Android Duncan, Bruce Bowen/Tony Parker hybrid, Black Manu and Raw Kawhi in three consecutive drafts. Fair.
Also, Vassell is Danny Green incarnate.
Crazy how much this sub hates SGA and the Thunder so quickly. Won’t be long until they are doing the same to Wemby
Trash talk is a fun part of sports
OKC fans give me the ick. They look and sound manufactured, like a Wii audience.
I think that crowd was the least diverse large gathering of people I’ve ever seen.
this was way too random to not be funny
Good think Portland drafted Yang instead of him.
I love seeing clean, effort defense
Carter?
More like Guarder Bryant!
The people yearn for Carter Bryant
Sga is gonna flop so god damn hard game 2.
Dude guards like the younger brother tired of getting scored on lol so aggressive I love it
Hang them up Shai, it’s a young man’s game. No old men allowed.
All seriousness though, very impressive considering how SGA is.
The important part about Spurs defense is that once they got close to the paint they were okay with not staying ahead of their opponent because they knew no one wants to challenge the paint with Wemby lurking. This gave them a lot more freedom to be more physical and take risks swatting at the ball.
Man I love this spurs team
Yesterday’s game is the reason why I love basketball. It was captivating.
Sexii
Carter bryant is going to be amazing.his improvement this year was fantastic and his athleticism and defense is amazing.
14th pick. Man
Crazy what happens when the refs let opposing players play actual defense against SGA.
Last year my dudes Nembhard and Nesmith had it going pretty decently…makes me sad
I wish NBA was more like this..so much effort
Hes a dawg. I remember him locking up Cooper Flagg during summer league and was like wtf who is this 😂
Thank God for Carter Bryant fuck SGA he sucks.
It. was as much help defense as his individual efforts
Can’t he play more?
What happens when you face another young team with dogs on their team, it’s a shame it took the conference finals for them to be challenged.
Top 20 player in 5 years book it
This experience for him is gonna do him wonders. He should be proud.
Man I love carter his development and how fast he’s improving is insane
Its so over once he develops a 3ball and becomes new gen Anunoby
He has a bit of the Kendal Gill strength and quickness to him.
Raw and yet still impactful.
I was hyping him up like he was my own boy.
beat that cat with a dawg
He’s one of the Thompson twins, he just has a shot too.
SGA made a great pass on pretty much everyone of these clips to a pretty much wide open player.
That Chet “screen.” 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
once the refs decide not to hammer him with a rookie whistle he’ll be unstoppable
Damn making sga look like the rookie
Thing is he got passed him several times but then there is Wemby in the middle. If, say, Jokic was there instead of Wemby it would be an easy layup.
Not sure why this isn’t higher. Him and castle are both very good defenders, but they are allowed to play over aggressive without fear of getting beat because Wemby is sitting in the paint waiting.
LMAO you somehow get by the fired up hyper athletic 6’9” dude up in your face annnddd… 7’6” Wemby the Alien comes over to play help D.
McCain really looks like a midget in these highlights
It’s nice when the refs let you hand check like that. Can’t count on the same reffing night to night though.
Helps being aggressive when you don’t have to worry about getting blown by because you have Wemby there to shut things down.
As great as the clips are, all I am seeing is that any offensive player sees a stop sign once they hit the paint in Wemby
It’s less about Bryant and more about them shadowing SGA every time he got the ball
“Plays defence like the kid that bites people” is the funniest thing I’ve seen associated with Carter Bryant. I’m so happy he’s on the spurs man 😭🥰
Amazing
He’s probably gonna be called for 6 fouls in 15 minutes to make sure they even up the series in game 2
He did a good job but let’s not act like it’s not Wemby
Carter “Adult Infant” Bryant
It’s crazy how the Spurs are 3 talented dudes, an Alien and a dog on the court
Great defender, no doubt, but I have to say these are some pathetic screens from OKC. I’m not sure what :14 was supposed to be, but it sure as hell isn’t getting your man open.
I’m not sure, but maybe SGAs problems had it has to do with an 8 foot giant lurking in the paint
Prime Kobe would have eaten SGA up! Way too soft!
I read it as “holding” and saw the 700 up votes and watched the whole video thinking wtf are these people seeing this is just good defense 🤣
Shai has to fight through Bryant, then Castle, and finally Harper, just to get his shot perma banned by Wemby.
His movement is so smooth it’s hard to explain how incredibly fast he is laterally. He legit moves like an NFL corner through the hips. The way he’s able to shift his center of gravity. I think this guy truly has the tools to be a generational talent as a perimeter defender. If he keeps the 3 pointers falling he’s a must-play at the 3-4 to me.
Geez that’s tough defense. I’m surprised half of those weren’t foul calls because the NBA sucks now
Watch his hands. So good.
Thank you Atlanta
Their future top 4 of Wemby/Castle/Harper/Bryant all being +++ defenders is disgusting. Dylan Harper might end up the “worst” defender of the four and he had 7 steals last night
It’s just nuts that it’s the WCF and the spurs are playing two rookies against the number 1 seed on the road. Are people catching on how nutty that is moving forward?
Had that baby face up in his grill. Won’t even be able to look at his own kids the same way.
Carter Bryant was one of my favorites from last year’s draft. Crazy that the Spurs landed him too
I wanna see him as a box safety Kam Chancellor type of role for my squad
He’s exactly what I expected Sochan to become. Personality-wise though, he’s not what you’d expect from an enforcer type but he’s still a dawg (golden retriever).
Yeah, that kid KNOWS how to position himself and has great instincts on defense. Played MVP like a vet, not some green 20-year-old. The same can be said about the rest of SAS squad.
Most of these get called fouls next game, guaranteed. OKC will cry the loudest, and this will be addressed in the officiating meeting before game 2.
Imagine being guarded by Vince and Kobe
It just shows this league is becoming more and more of a young man’s league. The whole team doesn’t but you need a good mix of youth that just have hustle
I just want to confess my sins. At like a quarter way through the season I said something along the lines of “Carter Bryant doesn’t defend and doesn’t hit 3s, what exactly does he do”
Im surprised he didnt foul out. Dude somehow nullified the genjutsu of SGA
He’s smart keeping his hand on his hip under Shai’s off hand instead of above Shai’s off hand. That way Shai can’t rise up, draw contact and get a shot off.
“Carter Bryan defends like a kid that bites”
This was one of the best games of basketball I’ve ever seen and its only game 1?????
How you stay in front of your man! Everybody lets him get by them to the basket.
Spurs have some really solid options to bother shai. Its no coincidence Spurs have had so much success vs OKC.
Notice how in each play, sga after passing his defender passed out of the paint on the 3rd dribble
Finally this dude gets a thread. They should’ve had him in there in the OT inbounds plays.
Absolute Clamps
